Review from Jose A.
Brownsville, TX
Sushi is great, but what is even better is the combination fried rice. The combination fried rice is exquisite, especially for those who like beef because even though it contains shrimp, beef, and chicken, the beefy flavor sticks out. I've only had a few rolls in Uchi but all of them were pretty good, better than those they serve in koi. The miso soup I can't really review about because I don't like it at all. Service is good, and the place is clean and somehow nice. Uchi definitely has the best sushi, and one of the best combination rices in brownsville.

This Uchi is pretty big compared to some of the other ones in brownsville and the island. I've yet to try all of their rolls but so far i gotta say that i love all the ones that i have tried. Their food's always fresh and the service is pretty fast. The restaurant is clean inside and out and it is really close to home.

The Cali rolls were good. I would rate this 5 stars but the beef teriyaki destroyed 2 stars from the rate list. I don't recommend the teriyaki. Waste of money, had to trow it in the trash. $14 down the drain.
I love the Samurai's Sam teriyaki better in Henderson, NV. -

As far as sushi places in Brownsville go, this is by far the best I've found. I'm from Chicago and we have TONS of different restaurants to try. I was very happy to find a hibachi grill down here. The miso soup leaves a lot to be desired, especially since they use those fried onions that come in a can for some reason?!! I'm giving them 4 stars by comparison...in a competition of 1, they win! The maki rolls are great, and the hibachi chefs are very entertaining; one of them even uses a train whistle :) It's definitely a place to go with a large group.

What a gem!
Whether you're looking for lunch or dinner, Uchi serves up the best sushi I was able to find in Brownsville, Texas!
During the evening, a few of us stumbled into Uchi. We had heard from some of the locals that it was unusually good for this part of the world and we decided to escape the typical Mexican food.
We ordered 6 rolls (for 3 of us) and all were absolutely delicious! I strongly suggest the 'Volcano' if you want a southwest twist on a sushi roll, but you *must* try the House Special 'Uchi Roll'. The Uchi Roll has several different types of fish and is probably close to 2 inches thick. One of the better rolls I have had in my time.
Lunch time is best done at the sushi bar! The Sushi Chef is very talented and serves up an amazing cut of fish. We ordered the Chef's Plate - very good choices!
Uchi is truly a unique place in this part of Texas.
