Hands down my favorite pizza stop when I am visiting the city.  I stumbled upon this place one day while taking a trip into the city and have been back everytime after.  I am a pizza connoisseur  and am very picky when it comes to my pizza.  This place keeps me coming back, and the funny thing is I can remember where it is.  I can never remember restaurants I fall in love with, but this place has stuck!!  Delicious Margherita Pizza, only one I eat.  The crust is crunchy and delicious and the pies are always fresh.  Only downside - Absolutely no where to sit.  If you aren't taking your pizza home with you, be prepared to to stand and eat!

Joe's Pizza is the great equalizer for NY pizza lovers alike.  No matter what style you prefer, you have to take your hat off and pay respect to this slice.  If you haven't tried it yet, shame on you, you pizza slacker.

The Joe's Slice: Crispy. Cheesy. Thin. Large. Just the right amount of sauce (not too much)  But if you don't like, move on.  Like New York, it doesn't give a shit what you think.

Everyone remembers the first time they had pizza at Joe's.  It's like a NYC milestone experience.

As for me, Joe's reminds me of my father.  As a little girl, I'd watch a younger version of him say "Lock the doors," before running out of our beat up VW to grab a slice.  Simply because I was hungry.  He'd wait on line and smile back at me, shivering through the winter's cold.  Through the years, my father went from being in NYPD uniform, to transforming beneath undercover attire, to finishing his career in a fancy suit and tie as a big shot detective.  His favorite pizza spot remained the same, and slowly it became my favorite too.  He could have easily told me to run out and get the slice myself while he waited instead.  Yet there was something simple, thoughtful, and unspoken about his kindness.

Kindness surrounding a Joe's slice late at night.

Years later, I'm 25 and donning my purple graduation robe.  My dad's older now too with salt-n-pepper hair, driving in the black Mercedes he's always wanted, and paying a price for all his years on the NYPD: a crippled gait that warrants the use of a cane, but of course he'd rather keep his dignity.  As our night comes to an end, we somehow end up at Joe's.

"You wanna slice?  Lock the doors, Nicole, " he runs out with a limp and comes back and hands it over with pride.  Maybe a little different this time.  Maybe not.  Maybe it's exactly the same and it always will be.

This is how I describe NY style pizza.  Old fashioned cheesey, gooey, deliciousness.  Not the fresh mozzarella "dots" with fresh basil that so many people love.  I'm never disappointed and I'm always full with just one slice.

I had another slice yesterday afternoon (1st one was a few months ago) and I wanted to give it a second chance.  Both times, the slices were ok.

Like the first time, this time around, the sauce and cheese were a little dried up but hot. The cheese didn't taste too much like mozzarella. The crust had a slight burnt (read: big black bubble) crisp to it.  The service was fast, but not personable.  Has it always been $2.50 a slice?  Maybe they have a fresh margherita or mozzarella pizza I could try.  The guy at the counter didn't even hear my request for a black cherry soda.  Even if I just got a slice with no drink, some places commonly ask, "Hey, you want a drink with that buddy?"

I liked John of Bleecker's much better, which is around the corner somewhere.  The funny thing is, I'll have to keep going back to Joe's Pizza on 7 Carmine to make sure it wasn't their off day.  That and they offer slices unlike the whole pie of John's.

I really want to taste the same pizza that these people are eating - the ones giving them 4-5 stars.   Again, maybe i need to watch them actually make a pie, put it in the oven, take it out and serve it to me piping hot.  That would probably make for a more accurate rating.  Until then, you've got two strikes Joe.

I had my first NY pizza here on my first night out in NY. It was snack before dinner and I was blown away.

The thin crispy crust and that fresh mozzarella topping is to die for. I returned here many times during my visit and was satisfied every single time. My mouth was burned from their piping hot pizzas but hey, it was worth it!

Now that I'm back in CA, I miss it dearly.

Pizza so good it is fitting for dessert.

Yes I said it but it wasn't I who initiated it. Believe it or not, after a fabulous dinner of tapas and sangria, we walked down to Joe's Pizza for dessert. Two piping hot slices of plain cheese split amongst 5 people was forced down our throats willingly. The cheese was bubbly and the sauce was thin. Really good but I was already full. I let the rest of the troops finish the job.

I never knew Joe's existed. It's amazing how oblivious I am to so many things in the city. I mean, come on. This is Ben Affleck's favorite pizza in NYC! In the pizzeria, it was like a party. I swear. A group came in and at the counter they screamed and cheered when a fresh pizza was presented. It was like we were at a sporting event. People get really excited about the pizza here.

The best thing was that this was the pizza parlor in Spiderman. My friend is a big Spidey fan. In fact we went all over NYC to every comic book shop and toy store looking for these Spiderman toys that came out of the prize machines in Japan. And if you ever peep my profile photos- that's his Spiderman toy. Joe's Pizza made my friend a very happy camper that day and that is enough for 4 stars. If my friend ever decides to visit NYC again, I'll bump Joe's up to 5.

This place holds a special place in my heart. On many drunken nights I've craved their pizza and have been satisfied many times.

Seriously, they have the ratio of dough:sauce:cheese just right at Joe's. There may not be much room to sit, but their slices have got that "fold-n'go" quality to them, which, to me, defines a good slice of NYC pizza.

Love the authentic NYC style by the slice pizza. Crust is thin and srunchy, perfect cheese to sauce ratio. However , life changing it was not. I could a find a slice like that almost anywhere in Brooklyn, but if you can't leave Mahattan than this is your spot.

Always fresh, any time of day/night, paper thin, with just the right amt of crust, sauce and cheese and a crispy crust. Its even good after having been frozen and defrosted several times! Its also next door to a beard papas. nothing more to say, really.

My favorite slice in the City.  It's simple--great sauce, nice and tomatoey, good cheese, and a delightfully crispy thin crust.

Thank goodness they beautified and reopened Father Demo Square.  A perfect summer day for me, grab a slice, a soda and sit in the Square watching the world go by.

This is my first stop whenever I fly to NYC and surface from the W 3rd St subway station.  Thin, light and crispy crust that isn't weighed down by the perfectly tangy tomato sauce and delicious cheese.  A slice of Joe's never fails to bring me joy.

One of my favorite spots for by-the-slice pizza. The crust is thin with lots of cheese on top. Be careful though, the pizza is usually piping-hot! Also, it's pretty much always crowded at Joe's - so expect to eat while standing.

Since Joe's moved/closed their location on the corner, the quality has not been the same.  The pizza is dry, and not just because of not enough sauce, but the crust is so thin that it becomes crunchy like a cracker instead of the satisfying bite of thin crust pizza.  My new favorite pizza is Ben's in Soho.  The salad slice is amazing!!

This is the best of the single slice pizzerias in nyc.  turnover is constant, so the slices are always crispy & hot.  there are no slices that have languished for hours while waiting for customers to dig in.

My 5 stars are based relative to single slice places, & isn't representative of the sit-down restaurants like Grimaldi's, Lombardi's, Patsy's.

Hand's down, this is the best slice in Manhattan (non sit down restaurant).

Crispy, hot, the slice cracks down the middle when you fold, cheese and sauce are just right, nothing beats a slice of Joe's pizza late at night....also eaten while standing up, the way good cheap eats are meant to be consumed!

Be prepared for a long but quick moving line.

I came here because my friend's roomate kept raving about how this was the best pizza on earth,  After getting a slice, I was sorely disappointed.  There wasnt anything spectacular about it.

The best slice I've ever had was a vodka slice in staten island.  I still have not had one that matches it in the city.

It was a great treat after spending a few hours at a Jazz bar walking distance away. I was looking for a good pizza place to try in NY and I thought that it was quite satisfying. I still think there might be better though, I've always heard about NY pizza but i still don't know if i've had the best of the best. I think that i would need a New Yorker to recommend a place to me. If anyone has any suggestions for an LA girl, please do share for the next time i visit :-)

Seriously? That's all that went through my mind as I ate my two slightly burnt slices. Was the pizza good? Yes, but this would definitely not be in the running for the best pizza in New York. I noticed that a decent amount of the 5 stars came from out-of-towners. No offense, but I just don't think that this is a good example of NY pizza.

I will return to see if maybe I just so happened to get two of the lesser quality slices ever served, but I cannot see it being that far off. I wanted to say I was blown away, but instead all I can say is that it was good, but I've had better.

Despite the cousins' poor ratings, I liked Joe's Pizza. It's definitely better than anything I've had out here in LA. In all fairness, I must admit that I am hardly a pizza connoisseur. In fact, I rarely eat pizza at all. But, I did a quick pizza tasting tour last night and nothing compares, so far.

I ordered a very standard pepperoni slice. The sauce was good, tangy but not overwhelming. And the cheese was melty and perfectly balaned with the sauce. Was the crust bland, or off? I don't know. But I liked the slight char on the crust, which was crispy and held up while eating. I hate pizzas that just go limp. Honestly, who likes limp anything?

All in all, good stuff. I've only had pizza in NYC twice, and Joe's is my favorite so far.

PS: Take your pizza and eat outside in the plaza across the street.

A young gentleman caller took me and a friend of mine here one evening shortly after a visit to Little Branch. "You wanna go get the best slice you ever had?" he said to me. I don't know if I formulated any words. I'm sure my head just shook up and down violently because I live for good pizza!

Sadly, this isn't it. I think I just wasn't drunk enough. But I feel as though pizza choice is a lot like wine choice. I really can't deal with ultra thin crust. And I was hoping the mozzarella slice would be bangin' but it just wasn't. Sorry. Because so many people like this but it really isn't for me ... any way you slice it.

What I do like about it is the big window where you can eat in good company and chat with the folks hangin at the tables. And we've got a good view of the park across the street with the musicians that set up shop in the wee hours for a little night music.

The atmosphere of a good New York pizza joint minus the good.

We knew our search was over once we spotted the line out the door! Hello Joe! We greedily shared a slice of pepperoni while standing outside in 40-degree weather with 20 other freezing but delighted customers. Every single bite gave a satisfying crunch and the pepperonis were bursting with flavor. This was far and away, the best pizza in NYC!

Joe's has much better pizza than Ray's. The pizza was nice and hot like it had just finished baking in the oven, not reheated after sitting there for hours. We got a traditional cheese slice and it was the perfect snack, not too filling but extremely tasty. Would've gone back for another if we weren't in such a rush.

I got the regular cheese pizza yesterday. Everything about it was great except the burnt-to-a-carcinogenic-crisp bottom crust. Sad.

Given all the raves about this place, I'm still giving it 4 stars in the hopes that it was just a fluke. I'm also giving them credit for the efficient way they dealt with the crazy pre-parade Halloween lines.

Very good pizza, but not the best in the area.  Large slices that are almost always hot and tasty.  Not a great selection to choose from, but sometimes simple can be just as good. Definitely in the upper class for pizza slices in the city.

Only down sides of the Joe's has nothing to do with the pizza itself.  The place is small and there isn't much room to eat.  Really better if you are taking your slices on the go.  Also unless I am mistaken I don't believe they have a bathroom for customers.  Not a big deal in New York, but it is nice to have one.

Overall though I would rank the pizza here as top five in Manhattan.

Setting:  Small place.  A few seats.  Really a to-go place.  Either that or eat fast.  There are seats outside too for those nice warm NY days.

Food:  My favoritest pizza in NY.  But then again, I've only had 2.  :)  But you can't go wrong with this place.  Spider-man used to work here ya know.  Seriously, I am a fan of the thin-crust, and the crunchiness of Joe's Pizza crusts was muy delicious!  The pizza was so hot and so good that I didn't care I burnt the top of my mouth eating it.  And for about $7 a pop, with a pop (thats soda for us west coasters), it's not a bad deal at all.

Service:  This is totally the pizza nazi of New York (watch seinfeld folks).  If you're not ready with your order, he'll skip you until HE is ready.  But it was all in good fun.  They were cool people.  I wish I could go back there.  My gf went back behind my back...darn her!  ;)

I thought it was better the last time I went? Went on my trip, wasn't as great as I blew it up to be in my mind. What happened?! Pizza 33 is better in my opinion. There was something off about the crust that day. =( My only pizza on this trip and it wasn't up to par. What made it better? Sitting on a park bench across the street and taking pictures with the fountain pretending I was in Italy -- while eating the pizza. Ok. I'm lame. I know.
