Oh!! So many beers from so many places!
I love their menu, not only does it include a vast array of international as well as micro brews but it gives the definitions for types of brewing, and other beer trivia. What great education while drinking my Spaten!
A fantastic tavern, even if it is on 99. Very petite though. Not suitable for very large groups.
Here's why I love my former college roommate: while driving aimlessly through Ballard ("What do you want to do?" "Uh, I don't know, what do you want to do?") she looks out the window and goes, "Hey! I think I've been here before... there's a bar... there!" Lo and behold, from behind a Seattle City bus emerges Uber. (I fully acknowledge we were obviously no longer in Ballard when this happened).
Uber is a small bar: there were seeming-regulars posted up around the bar itself, with seating for maybe ten more in the rest of the space. Bottled beer is stored in refrigerated cases behind the bar proper, a display I always appreciate as I'm a "judge a book by its cover" type, a technique that also extends to beer. If you're a little more discerning, Uber's beer list is wonderfully organized by country, with details that the beer aficionado AND frat dude would certainly admire, the latter for the alcohol content listings, and the former for the descriptions. The list doesn't feel gimmicky either - Uber isn't going for the largest beer list in the world - you get a sense that they're there to serve the beer-loving public and maybe educate the less-than-beer-loving along the way.
There are the usual televisions tuned to sports around the bar, as well as a selection of well-loved board games. The staff is knowledgeable and ready to recommend something to suit your tastes. And if you're serving a larger crowd they also have kegs to go. Do let me know if you'll be getting a keg for your next get together from Uber - I'll be sure to show up!
Oh, and my lovely former roommate who steered us in the direction of Uber? Well, I TRIED to buy her beer - but her fiancee got in the way of the check before I could. I blame it on being distracted by my pint glass.
I've been driving by this place forever and always wanted to stop in. I was checking pub websites for food offerings. While I was bummed they didn't serve food, I saw they had Oskar Blue's Ten Fidy on tap. That was enough to make us get a quick bite elsewhere and then head on over to Uber Tavern.
I was pleased and amazed at both the bottle collection and the draft offerings. Our bartender was friendly and welcoming and our beers were delicious. Their offerings for To-Go beer were extensive and some pretty good prices.
We'll probably not stop in again on the weekends unless we're just getting beer to go since it is so tiny. Two mugs..er..thumbs up from us!
If you're a beer drinker, what's not to like?
Why are you so far from me? Why is the only beer bar in Seattle that puts any thought into their overall tap list closer to Shoreline than downtown? Not to bag on the location, because it is lovely, but seriously; if you want to open a beer bar, you would be far better served following the Uber model (small, casual, homey, carefully considered and constantly changing selection) than you would the Taphouse (as an example) model (overwhelming number of taps which often lean 70% in the direction of one particular style, yuppified atmosphere, general awfulness.)
On second thought, maybe your location is worth it. Sure, it's a bit of a trek, but if you were downtown you would be overrun with lamestains from the Eastside ordering boots of Spaten. It is a blessing and a curse, but the blessing is what counts.
I found this joint on YELP for my friends birthday and although I was bit surprised by how small the tavern was, we ended up having a great time. The one thing that attracted me here was the fire pit in the center of the bar and I must say that IT DELIVERED! When we got there, it was not on and the space around it was taken, but as soon the group left we took over and asked the bar man to turn it on for us (which he did without a problem).
They have an amazing selection of beer and the bartender is more than happy to introduce you to something new. Great place to hang out and play games (they have a small selection).
If I were to count the number of good times I've had at Uber, I'd run out of fingers and toes.
Good idea: Try a couple of the more obscure beers you haven't heard of.
Bad idea: Order a bunch of beers you've never heard of, ignoring the alcohol percentage, and then try to peel yourself off the floor at the end of the night.
Good idea: Ask the bartender about some of the beers, and find out which he (or she) recommends.
Bad idea: Try to impress the bartender with how much you know about beer. Trust me. They're not condescending, but most of the bartenders here have forgotten more about beer than you ever knew.
Good idea: Bring a buddy who appreciates beer.
Bad idea: Bring eight friends who think that paying $6 for a pint of beer is ridiculous, and that all bars should have $1 PBRs and shots of Jager. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Good idea: Grabbing a slice of pizza from the shop next door after you head out.
Bad idea: Asking the bartender at Uber for a food menu. There isn't one.
A nice little beer joint. I especially enjoy coming here in the winter and sitting next to the open fire place with a nice dark brew.
The Uber is also a good place to pick up kegs and usually have a good selection to choose from.
Awesome beer swilling joint. The notebook of beer is a great guide for both casual beer drinkers and seasoned conasuirs. Imports from across the globe can be found adorning the reefers at Uber. The cozy space has the feel of an off the beaten path locals bar. There's even a cool open fireplace in the middle of the room!
Service was fast and friendly. They don't serve food, but the bartender will happily provide you with yet another notebook full of menus of nearby restaurants to order take out and bring back to eat.
I'd been waiting to try this place out for quite a few weeks now, promising myself that the next time I'm finding fun over on Aurora I'd take advantage of what I was hoping might be Greenlake's Brouwer's Cafe-lite.
Tip one - bring your own food, they have none and even the bartender has pizza delivered. The place was around half full when we were there, and the majority had to-go containers about them finishing dinner.
Tip two - don't expect to get a taster of anything. I'm not suggesting you pour me a whole shot, and I'm not expecting you to open a bottle for me, but how about a teaspoon of something on tap or one of the an already open bottles so I can at least see if I will enjoy the beer I've never had, or more importantly any of the meads you somewhat uniquely offer. I can hear the argument of "if we gave everyone a sample..." and I then say that if no one subsequently ordered, you have a market data telling you to drop the product.
Tip three - bring your own fun, and in large quantities, because you won't find any here and the place seems to suck it from you. You can't help but walk by a few other bars / pubs in the immediate area, and a peep inside you find everyone laughing, socializing, and otherwise having a good time. Not here, it was as lively as a wake.
On the plus side, the bartender (other than the No Samples lecture) was friendly, the patrons that were there seemed nice, and the bathroom was clean.
Bike & Brew "2009 Spring Invitational".
For those hardy Uber fans among you, stalwarts of this "Little Joint, Big Selection" place, there is a very special event this coming Sunday: The first ever Bike & Brew Spring Invitational, combining fun riding, conviviality, sketchy bars (and some not so sketchy) and plenty of good beer (PBR and beyond).
Our Uber affable host, Ken, will be leading the charge, along with trusty side-kick Ryan and a dozen or so crazed cyclists (there will no doubt be the usual assortment of single speeds and fixies among the more practical and sedate rides) from Uber to a well planned route of 12 bars, ending back at Uber for rounds of what will certainly be mutual congratulations, stories, and toasts. (And hopefully Ryan will make it back this time with all his teeth and only moderate lacerations).
All are welcome to join in this spring frolic; this is an invitational with an open invitation. We will be starting at Uber at noon and wending our way along the backroads (and probably some main thoroughfares, if previous experience is any guide) to (in order):
1. Über Tavern
2. Buckaroo
3. Blue Moon
4. Roanoke
5. Comet
6. 9lb Hammer
7. Pioneer Square Saloon
8. Nitelight
9. Mecca
10. Sloop
11. Dray
12. Über Tavern
Ken, our guide (and the Dark Lord of Über Tavern) advises those less hardy (or more sensible) should, as always, feel free to join us at any point along the way (you should be able to recognize us by the custom ride t-shirts Ken & Ryan have designed).
BTW, though this is the very first "Bike and Brew Spring Invitational" it follows on the heels of two very popular (and crazily enjoyable) fall "Bike & Brew" events.

Really good place to hang with friends, if you don't have a whole lot of em!! I only say that cuz the place is teeeeny tiny. The pics on here are quite deceiving. My friends and I chose to have our get together at a chill bar where we could actually conversate without screaming. The big seller was the fire pit, my friend wanted good backgrounds for pictures. (We're cheesy I know!) Anyways when we got there the table with the fire pit was taken by 2 people just hanging out...kinda irked with that, thanks for hogging the only, I mean *best seat in the house!
They eventually left and we took over. Just in time cuz our party of 5, grew to 9 shortly after! Where would have we all sat?!! Haha.
The fire pit was not on, but ask and you shall receive!! The staff (by staff, I mean the ONE bartender!)was very friendly, and it's always nice when they let you sample beers so you know you're getting one you'll enjoy! He also humored us and took some group photos!
This was a great place to hang out , ALL night long!! (We closed the place down! )
Try the "Blue Chimay" it's a beer they sell by the bottle, very light and crisp!
And If you're starving by the end of the night like we all were, stagger down to Beth's... it wasthe PERFECT night cap!
After you've grabbed your gun at Butch's gun shop on Aurora (my previous review), head up the block for an Uber shot of the beer variety, and enjoy a multi-logue about the virtues of a particular beer, or how Ricky will do now that he's back home, or a half-jocular/half-serious positing of whether Obama is an alien planted here to take over the world.
Uber is small, but a cool space, virtually guaranteed to have you interacting with fellow beer-heads in no time. Just don't bring up the "B"-word here (no not Butch's gun shop -- that's a-ok). No I'm referring to that "other" place that serves a lot of beer -- Brouwers is a sensitive topic, I came to find out.
Uber has so many beers available it'll make your head spin. Fortunately, the user-friendly menu does it's best to categorize it's beer by state or country, and explain the differences between the different kinds of beer. "First, all you need to know is there's only two kinds of beer... ALE, and LAGER." This entertainingly simplified description, followed by a much more detailed breakdown of sub-types of beer is a great way to get your curiosity, and your appetite, wet.
You'll find a very generous (and artfully chosen) collection of beers from around the country and the world here. But they don't have EVERYTHING. So don't be too disappointed if that refreshing South African Lager you've been pining for is missing, or Kona beer from Hawaii, for example -- those are not on the menu.
But do come with an adventurous spirit, and an open mind, because you will definitely find something interesting, and quite possibly, if you keep drinking and talking about Obam-aliens, you might even blow your mind.
PROS: LOTS of beers in an inviting environment, designed to get you talking to a few of your new best friends there. Pricing is varied, but there are always interesting specials that are comfortably cheap. Not as crowded and therefore better, more personalized service than at that "B" place.
CONS: They don't have EVERY beer, so don't expect that. Probably not the best bar to get wasted and party it up in a large, obnoxious groups.
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic! I love this place! I recall driving by this place several times on my way up and down Aurora on errands. The front of Uber certainly isn't anything to write home about, but inside is where all the magic happens.
My friends and I stopped here on a Saturday afternoon of what we like to call a "Beer Trek." This was the 3rd stop on our trek and certainly everyone's favorite. We arrived early on that Saturday afternoon and after what seemed like a few regulars filtered through, we had taken over the center seating area around a glass filled fire pit. The beer selection was amazing and sitting at the bar definitely gave you the best view of their selection on tap and in bottles.
We'll definitely be back here...I can't believe we didn't discover this place sooner though!
It's important to know that Uber Taven is not:
a place to get trashed
a place to drink cocktails
a place to get food
a place to hang out with a large group of friends
But if you want to have a pint or two with a handful of close friends who appreciate a diverse collection of unique beers, there is no better place to do it. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, and they don't get cranky about helping you decide on something if you're not a beer expert. It's a tiny place, but it almost works to their advantage; it feels cozy and exclusive instead of claustrophobic. Also, any place that has board games tends to be a winner in my book.
Definitely my favorite place to try a beer I've never tried before. Never had a bad experience at this place. Strong five stars.
I generally try to stay away from any place on Aurora, but this is one of the few places that are slowly starting to change my mind about the area.
Easily one of the best craft beer selections in Seattle. They have a couple dozen choices on draft and a huge collection in bottles. Most of the tap selection is domestic microbrews, but the bottle collection features beers from all over the world.
The place is tiny, but the environment is warm and inviting; it was full, but not crowded. The people standing and chatting around the center fire pit were great and really friendly. They don't serve food, so it's a great after-dinner destination.
If you're even half the beer fanatic that I am, you'll love this place.
Go here. No, seriously, if you like beer EVEN JUST A LITTLE BIT, you will want to go here, and if you even have only a germ of an idea of what you enjoy, tell the bartender, and he'll find something you will love so much you'll want to give it a ring right then and there. They also have a particular beer named Delerium Tremens on tap, whose symbol is a pink elephant - which I suspect it is because this beer is SO GOOD that you want to drink it until you see fuschia pachyderms lambada through your brain.
Parking is a wench and the place is smaller than my living room, so keep that in mind - but don't let it stop you from going. Just be prepared to fuss about looking for a place to put your car, and to be a bit squished inside (ESPECIALLY if a brewer like Port [from San Diego] or Allegheny [from Maine] is in town with their stuff). Absolutely worth it.
Also it bears mentioning: Uber is one of the four BEST BEER BARS IN THE WORLD. The other three are in Belgium. Keep that in mind.
A great place to grab a pint, has an extensive beer list, non-snobby bartenders who are very knowledgeable and a great atmosphere, Kind of like a Gnome's secret tree house where elves make beer... yeah I said it. I will be doing a full review of the place all in good time.
Grab a pint and say Cheers to Uber.
Simply put, this is my favorite bar in the area. The selection, service, overall atmosphere, and just the experience in general is head and shoulders above anything else I've found yet.
The beer menu is the most impressive I've seen yet; it trumps Brouwer's simply because they can maintain a ginormous menu, and have what you ask for in stock. The service is pheonomenal as well. The bartenders will chat with you about beer, or whatever. They give suggestions, educate you, and are just plain down to earth. This is everything a beer bar should be.
Only downside is also a plus side. The place is small, very small. This is awesome for when the crowds aren't out, but there doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to when it's crowded. Sometimes you'll show up and the place is empty, other times it's standing room only. But since they have done such a great job with the place, I can't dock them a star for this.
Bravo to them for making such a fine establishment!
Uber Tavern is one of a hand-full of bars in Seattle where you know that you can go to get excellent beer. The tap and bottle menus are huge and full of variety. They actually have Delirium Tremens on tap. The place is small and inviting. There is a large table in the middle of the room with a fire burning at all times. It really is a great place to hang out and drink delicious beer without pretensions or snobbery.
The wait staff is also friendly and helpful--they are always willing to make suggestions and give you the low-down on each beer. The thing that impressed me most about the employees was how considerate they were. I rode my bike to Uber Tavern and before I finished locking up, one of the owners came outside and offered to allow me to store my bike in the back room so nobody would mess with it. I'm not certain that this is routine practice for them, but I appreciated the generosity immensely.
Good job Uber Tavern.
Its small and it has a good selection of beer.
So if you were really in the mood for a chocolate martini, then you'd probably be pretty disappointed.
All hail the fire pit at Uber!
Everyone I have taken (that enjoys a good brew) loves this place, it will not disappoint. Plus, it's walking distance from 3 other bars... prime pub crawl starting point! While they don't have food, they allow you to bring stuff in - and they even have menus for places that will deliver to the bar. Beth's Cafe is just down the street if you need something to soak up the booze before the walk/drive home.
Plenty of rotating brews to sample and choose from, along with the good standby's - I'm partial to the Franziskaner they've got there - great if you like a light flavorful German beer.
Also, almost every time I've come here I've struck up a conversation with a unique stranger. Really nice, unpretentious crowd to mingle with while enjoying sweet, tasty barley nectar.
I've loved this place since it opened a couple years ago. It's small, and the attraction is definitely the beer list. They don't serve food (though you can order in) and parking is hit or miss (though you never have to walk more than a block). But if you like trying great new beers, this is one of a tiny handful of must-stop places in Seattle.
The bartenders know their inventory, and they know what's up and coming in the industry. They take care of their kegs, their bottles, and their lines. It's always a reliable place to get a well-tended glass of beer, and the ambience is nice and mellow even when it gets crowded on the weekends. Best of all, if you're newer in the craft beer world, they'll patiently ask questions to build up a sort of taste profile for you and guide you to beers that will please your palate.
Uber is a bar with a coffee shop feel. Which to me, is perfect. They have a vast selection of brews, quiet and non-douchey atmosphere, friendly staff. And it is usually not packed, which I like. You can hear who you are talking to, and they even have board games.
Chess anyone?
They also have mead. MEAD! I am partial to the chile infused variety, but no one else seems to like it (more for me!).
Their beer list comes with an explanation of different beer types and countries of origin, being a nerd I totally get hot over that stuff.
I go here when i want something good to drink, am with someone I want to talk to, and truly want to relax. It's just that kind of place.
Uber is your one-stop-microbrew-destination.
Seriously. Their selection is so awesome that it's almost mind boggling. And their menu explains the different kinds of beers and how they're brewed, so you can leave feeling smarter along with drunker.
Plus the bartenders aren't jerkfaces like at other local bars with large beer selections *cough*brouwers*cough* and will gladly steer you towards a tasty tasty beer and even have another ready as soon as you finish your glass.
One of the better beer bars in this part of Seattle, their discerning import and craft-brew taps are only surpassed by the bewilderingly large bottle selection, which is only rivaled by Brower's Cafe in Fremont. Uber also specializes in kegs of good quality beer, which is nice if you want to make a big splash at your next party.
Warning: Uber is a fairly tiny place that doesn't accommodate more than 1 large group at a time but for smaller groups it's the perfect stop off prior to a night on the town or a great end-cap for later. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the product, which is essential for a high-quality selection like this. Everything they serve is of the specialty (aka pricey) variety, so don't expect to find a discount on "Bud", it won't happen here, baby!
For the beer drinker, there are few better places. Uber is tiny, but packed with delicious beer, much of it in bottles. They have Delirium Tremens on tap, which is clutch. There's no food, but they'll let you bring in whatever you want.
The bartenders are very well versed in their wares, and they've been really nice in letting me taste anything they have on draft.
One of my favorite memories was finding a bottle of Jolly Roger (Maritime Pacific's Christmas Ale) in September...it tasted good, and it tickled me that they still had it in the fridge.
My hubby is a serious beer connoisseur, so we frequently include a brewery or specialty pub in our travelling. Luckily, we don't have to travel far for one of our favorite places. Several specialty beers on tap and even more bottles from all over the world. They usually have one of my favorite beers in a bottle - Pannepot. People come here because they serve damn good stuff without being stuffy or pretentious.
Since they don't serve food, they have a pile of take-out menus. But if they're having one of their special release parties, try their pretzels. They take Costco pretzels and coat them with different stuff (my fave: cheese and bacon). If only they had those on a daily basis!
A small elite beer bar with high end fantastic brews.
No food. No snacks. No messing around.
Only hardcore brews, meeds, lambics, belgians, and the like. They're real connoisseurs here, so make sure to not be lame. You'll only embarrass yourself.
I'm not sure how they have as much beer as they do in this tiny little place, but I know that I'll be a regular here for keg service once I get a setup in my next place of residence.
5 stars if you're a beer nerd. If you aren't a beer nerd, you'll probably hate this place. It's tiny, they don't serve food, and they won't give samples of the beer they have on tap. They aren't being stingy with that, it's just that some of these beers are so rare, they may only have one keg of it, period, so portion control becomes very important. Some of the bartenders listen better to you than others when you ask for recommendations. The beer list is bewildering to a newcomer, so anyone but the beer nerds will need help navigating it. Bring some food or have it delivered for those long afternoons of beer drinking, or step down to Beth's a block or so down.
I live in the hood and was so happy when Uber opened up. They have some great beers and it's fun to see what kind of special glass they're going to come in. Be careful though. Some of them are suuuper strong. Those Belgian ones creep up on you.
This is a temple to beer. Here those who worship all that is obscure and hoppy come to pay homage. The selection of bottled beer is simply staggering and the rotating selection of drafts always include several beers that you'll never find on draft anywhere else. Come with an open mind an experience some amazing beers.
What is almost more wonderful than the beer selection, however, is the quiet. No blaring juke boxes, no blaring TVs, no drunken obnoxious frat boys. Just people chatting over tasty beer. That's right, chatting. This place is so chill you can actually hold a normal conversation with your fellow beer-worshipers. What a novel concept, eh?
Take note, though, that this place is tiny, just a couple of tables and the bar. If your group is more than 2 you'll have trouble all sitting together and if it's more than 4 or 5 y'all are definitely SOL.
This place makes me Uber happy... Where else can you find such wonderful and magical beers on tap? In an attempt to not drive (save gas, saving the environment, impending drunkenness,) a couple of us trekked about two miles from the house; past Greenlake and onto our final destination. It was more like a pilgrimage for the delightfully delicious 120 minute IPA monstrosity from Dogfish Head... this beer is freakin 21% ABV (Holy Sheepshit!) I've never seen it on tap and once I found out that is was here, we were pretty much on our way.
The bar is clean and bit small but presents a very intimate gathering space. My opinion on that might be different had we not been able to sit at the bar and the place been busier. The bartender was very helpful, friendly, and hospitable. The beers were not outrageously priced as I was expecting and were very reasonable for the quality of the beers that you are getting. Anyone who enjoys and appreciates a fine beer will thoroughly enjoy Uber Tavern. I will be back frequently to enjoy whatever the bartender fancies, omakase style. I left that evening after enjoying some really fine beers with a slight buzz and a perma grin. Knowing that I had a wonderful walk home through Greenlake to look forward to; what a fine summer evening this was.
Gives brouwer's very stiff competition.
About a dozen taps that rotate. They peddle kegs, sweet, sweet kegs. Just about any keg you like on a whim. Bottled selection is fantastic. They carry that one beer in a bottle that your beer snob friend wishes he knew about.
Oaked beers, trappist beers, wildly hopped beers, barleywines, geuze, you name it, they've got some esoteric example of it.
Great local place. Tons of beer and bartenders that know their stuff and can make good recommendations. I love how small it is because it keeps it so you can hear yourself and meet cool people. Rotating taps make it continously interesting.
If you like Budlight I suggest you don't come here. This places is for beer lovers. I had two great beers: Southern Tier Brewery Choklat (Chocolate Heaven) and Russian River Pliny the Elder (IPA) and I hate IPA. This Beer changed my outlook on IPAs. Remember they don't serve any food but they have a folder of restaurant menus to choose from.
I just got turned on to Uber by the beer geeks writing the previous reviews, and I dig this little hole-in-the-wall. The fridge has every beer known to man, and the bartenders know their beers. If this place were closer to downtown, my buddies and I would be in a world of hurt. The are no distractions in this place, as people come here to do one thing: drink beer
After you get bent over by the prices at Brouwers, much less the new-style downtown Tap House, come to Uber, get your drink on and save a buck or three.
Lots of delicious beers from all over the world. Occasionally beers that you won't find anywhere else in Seattle, because these guys go out of their way to seek out unique beers and be the one place to carry them. If you've got a hankering for a Belgian but want to get off the hill and don't want to pay Brouwer's-level prices, check out Uber.
Cozy, on the dark side at night, which is just how I like my beer bars. Friendly bartenders and great brews. Mmmm, can't wait to go back.
Uber is my favorite place to try a new beer, or buy a keg for the home kegerator. They have around 15-20 beers on tap, and then another few hundred in bottles elegantly displayed in large, glass refrigerators behind the bar. Except for Delerium Tremens, which is always on tap, the selection is varied and changes frequently. Belgian beers are generally well-represented, along with a few more exotic brews such as agave mead. The bartenders always seem really knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the beers.
It's a small place, but very nice and cozy. There's a really neat gas firebowl filled with crushed glass in the middle of the place that is fun to sit around in the winter. In the summer, they seem to replace the flame with a slightly cheesy bubbling water cauldron, like the kind you see around Halloween, but I guess it complements the cool skeleton-themed beer art on the walls.
As far as kegs to go, they have a really good selection and reasonable prices. Sometimes you can even get a good half-barrel microbrew for $99 (plus tax).
I love my growler... and I love that I have a place to go to fill-up.
Prices are reasonable, selection is always changing, and people are friendly.
I have never drank there, but it seems like a great place to just hang-out for the day or evening.
