This is not my favorite spot to go watch a movie. The endless escalators complicate things... They have 12 floors and one elevator!

The theaters are usually clean, but the food is horrible, never ordering the Nachos here again.. the cheese was watery!

People who come to watch movies here are hilarious.. the comments were unbelievable during the movie.. it is actually more fun to listen to the audience than the film sometimes...

Cracks me up how much people hate this theater.  I can somewhat relate, but I think this theater is all about strategy.  It is very convenient to many buses and subway stops, and it's huge. There are several fast food shops, delis, and a pharmacy nearby where you can smuggle a few goods instead of paying the exorbitant prices of movie theater snacks, *Disclaimer, as a Yelper it is my duty to inform the people.  I in no way condone stealing money from the man.*

I only come here to get an "interactive" experience.  If I want to watch a fun movie where I don't mind people hootin' and hollerin' at the screen, screaming at the climactic parts and clapping when the villain is finally avenged, then I come here.

It is just a very difficult thing to see a movie in this theater.  That is unless you would like to not really watch the movie but, hear from other people around you.

It was midnight and I went to see Girl W/ The Dragon Tattoo.  The movie is mainly empty when, these two guys walk in (the movie playing, they are 15 minutes late).. One guy is on the phone, literally, walking from one side of the theater to the other speaking on the phone.  "Yeh, yeh, I'm at a movie" "What, what, oh yeh, that shit is funny, right"  is how the conversation continued.. It appears that the loud movie was taking away from his conversation.

So, we decided to move seats, it's an empty theater, let's move somewhere else.. Now, I knew we were in trouble because, it was a 2..5 hour movie and there was a lot of speaking.  It was going to be very difficult for these morons to follow the story, there was not enough action, and well, they would also have trouble sitting still for so long..

We move to a new section of the theater. And well, g-d bless these next people because I think she was trying really hard.. But, it took her about 30 minutes of dialogue until she could not stand anymore..  "oooo, ooooo, don't go in there don't go in there" we would hear occasionally but, she was still doing ok.. That was until her mother decided to call her..  This was only about a 5 minute conversation but, after that, she was completely lost.. She had nothing left to do but, speak to her boyfriend who had fallen asleep...

Finally, we moved one more time to a place where no one was.. And though, we could faintly hear the voices of people, it was the most quiet the theater has been in some time..

Concessions are a joke.. We waited in line for 10 minutes and the line had not moved.. We went up to our movie, put our coats down and I left my wife to go get us popcorn a drink or something.. By the time I had taken the escalator up three flights, found a seat, contemplated leaving, got up, walk down three flights, the line, had literally not moved..

What the hell was happening? I don't know.. I couldn't tell, there was no line, just a loose collection of heavy people standing around with their mouths agape, their eyes slightly tilted towards the ceiling..  It was strange.  It was like they all were getting like a brain massage for some reason..

Anyway, yeh, no thanks.. I normally have a no movie rule and places like this are exactly why.. You do not want to be in a dark room with these people.. It would have taken 25 minutes to get popcorn..

It is just this apathetic moronic sort of culture that we live in these days.. It's better to stay home and not spend 25 bucks to be annoyed by a bunch of low class, inconsiderate, untrained idiots.. And to think, I actually paid money to sit in the dark with these people?  Never again

All the negative reviews of this despicable theater are incredibly accurate; however, what they fail to mention is that this is THE place to watch slow dramatic films and independent comedies like Up In The Air and The Kids Are Alright.  Seriously.  The noisy, inconsiderate crowd do not see those films here.  In fact, an unsavory couple strolled in late to a screening of The Ides of March and sat there completely flummoxed by the sight of intelligent people talking on the screen.  So bewildered were they by the absence of action that they shook their heads and quickly left.  So, if you enjoy those kinds of films you will be fine here, but if you're going to see a big Hollywood tent pole release you will regret it dearly.

    Convenient Location

This is the closet and movie theater to my house in BedStuy that I know of.
    It is located near 9 train lines (A, C, F, G, R, 2,3,4, and 5)!! Very convenient.

Very similar to Manhattan prices, the tickets for adults are $13.50 and $9.50 for children - for now. Pretty clean as well.

Theater is located near tons of places to grab a quick bite and do a little shopping. This is great to have if you have some time to kill before the movie or you want to eat something cheaper than the goodies at the concession stand.

To get in is a nightmare during popular times of the day and weekend. Lines down the block and it is difficult to get past the two narrow doors and the thick crowd.

My advice: don't go during the popular show times. Go when it is pretty empty and not many employees are around (although they never seem to be anyway), that way you can avoid traffic and luckily catch another movie showing in a room nearby! 2 for 1? Um, yes.

*shhh I didn't tell you that*

Went here to see Crazy, Stupid, Love on a Sunday night before Labor Day. What is wrong with the layout of this place? Why would you put the ticket machines PAST the ticket taker? Endless traffic jams immediately upon walking in! And then everyone gives you a death glare when you ask to squeeze by to pick up your tickets!

I couldn't even FIND the up escalators when we entered the theater. We walked up 5 flights of stairs.

The people working there encouraged us to get our concessions at the upper level concession stand, but the lower level one barely had a line. The upper level one was PACKED with just one person working there who was completely incompetent. I waited on line for almost 20 minutes to buy a $5 soda and a $7 bag of popcorn. INSANE.

That all being said, this place actually had the movies I wanted to see, and it's easy enough to get to from my house. I arrived early enough to get decent seats, but the people who arrived just before the movie were stuck sitting in the very front row. This place is crowded, beware.

I have to agree with what everyone else here is saying, this theater sucks. I went in here one time and I was waiting for like a half hour and the movie never came on, and it was hot in that theater. They ultimately refunded me my money but come on you guys are killing me with your incompetence. You guys can do better than that.

Also they had this listing for free movies on Wednesdays in the summer. There was a line of people at the door, and they finally came out and said they weren't offering that free program. There sister theater in Bay Ridge was offering it. BAY RIDGE??? Who wants to go all the way out there if your in downtown brooklyn?

There are far better theaters in other places in the city. Unfortunately none very close in Brooklyn.

Also the parking around here sucks so make sure you get to the theater about thirty to forty five minutes before the movie starts so you can find parking. All in all not the most pleasant movie experience.

    Can I give ZERO stars?!?

THE ONLY THING MORE GHETTO THAN THIS THEATRE IS WATCHING NEWSREELS OF THE 1965 WATTS RIOTS AND IMAGINING YOURSELF TRANSPORTED BACK IN TIME!!!

The audience is loud, rude and completely indifferent to anyone and everyone around them.  (Rules and manners are for everyone but ME!!!)  Adults let their kids run and scream until THEY reach the breaking point. Then they threaten to "kick yo' ass" if the child "don't shut yo' fuckin' mouf!"  The place is filthy because the patrons are slobs.

And there's a reason the Barnes & Noble next door and nearby Chase ATM have guards at night.

Finally, the NYPD actually attributed the spike in local muggings, assaults, car break-ins and the like to the patrons of this theatre.

    What a mess.

I'm torn between 5 stars and 1 star. I'll stick with the one. This is a truly terrible theater with lots of broken escalators and long lines. I could live with that though. What makes it really terrible is the constant audience participation. I love hearing "Oh shit!" yelled out at 10 minute intervals. (sarcasm)

That being said, sometimes I don't mind going to see what I know ahead of time will be a really bad movie and listening to the audience's crude remarks throughout. Then it's actually kind of fun. 5 star fun.

Normally after giving a business a 1 star review I vow to never enter the establishment again but since this theater is located a block from my home I know I'll be back again and again.

I have mixed feelings about this place.
The location is good because it is a large theater in Brooklyn, close to a number of subway lines.  The theater sizes are generally good, and the seats are much more comfortable than the ohter nearby theaters.

The prices are Manhattan prices.  The only exception is that this theater offers matines which the UA thaters in Manhattan don't but frankly the matine prices are a joke.

Generally, the theater is a bit messy and the audience is often a bit loud.  If the prices were reasonable, you could shrug these things off because "you get what you pay for" but here you DONT get what you pay for - you get annoyed that you didn't go to Union Square or somewhere else.

The theater does offer lower priced movies (I can't remember just how low or if it's really much of a savings) for mothers with young children which is good.  The downside for those of us without children is that they don't advertise these so if you go to a matine, you run the risk of sitting through a roomful of crying babies.  I might not mind this if I learned of it before buying the ticket but I guess that's asking too much.

The only realy positive I can think of is that the staff here are so lazy about their jobs they really don't care if you "sneak" into a second movie for free.  You don't have to sneak - you can brazenly walk in shouting out loud that you do not have a ticket and they won't stop you.
If the prices are too high, take in a second movie and it might be worth it.

I had time to kill between lunch and dinner and I was in Brooklyn - I paid $9 to see Sucker Punch at a Matinee; a price 2x more expensive than a Matinee back in Ohio for a film that was honestly quite terrible.

For my $9 I was given a dirty theater that smelled somewhat like a wet dog, two homies talking to one another and then proceeding to place a phone call to their "boy" about an hour into the film, and a customer "service" agent who suggested there was nothing he could do about it when I complained.

Thank goodness lunch and dinner were excellent - Luger's and Roberta's respectively - or I'd probably never go back to Brooklyn.

I go to Court Street a lot because it's accessible. It's the midway point between home and work so I see a lot of late night movies there.

My advice to make your experience at court street a good one are as follows:
    1. Do not go to the opening night of a popular movie - the talking, babies and other shenanigans will upset you.
    2. Do not see horror/thrillers here - you'd be more annoyed at people advising the actors on what they should be doing and you won't hear anything.
    3. DO go to see the movie after about 4-5 days after it came out
    4. The weirder the time is the better - I went to see a movie at  3 pm on a tuesday with no issues.

Please take into consideration where you're going when you go to this theater. Seriously. It stopped getting to me when I realized where I was and who the regular crowd was - Kids and idiot adults.

Apparently the word is out and Court St. UA is THE place for babysitting.

I mean, you can be watching an R rated flick (I was in there one time watching 300 and I could hear kids running up and down the aisles and a baby screaming).

I mean, seriously?!! this was during a scene where some guy was getting his head cut off in extremely graphic detail. Wtf kind of person would expose their 5 year old kid to that?

Between that and people texting, or even once I was there and some woman was having a conversation on speakerphone, that's right, SPEAKERPHONE, while the movie was playing!!

Actually, I don't mind the broken escalators, everyone could use a little workout, especially most of the patrons of UA court st.

On the upside, the screens are huge and the sound is pretty good (when you can actually concentrate and hear it).

This theater attracts a bad element, talking, laughing, and a baby once had her diaper changed in the seat next to me (I kid you not!!).

    Good light, good sound.

A half-hour escalator to get to most movies.

Most concession stands are almost always closed.

If you're early, go grab a coffee at Barnes n' Noble or a drink on Atlantic Avenue.

Hello moviegoers! As a special treat for you film buffs out there, we have a quick Q&A session with the narrowly renowned, largely useless Peter D[redacted]. Let's get started.

Q: Tell me, do you know anyone who can see each and every request that you not talk or text or otherwise disturb those around you during a film, and decide those rules apply to everyone except her?
A: Great question, and yes, I know tons! Every single person at the Court Street cinema, for starters.

Q: Do you enjoy waiting on line?
A: LOVE IT. Luckily, at Court Street, if I don't buy a ticket in advance (Fandango, etc.), I can wait for what seems like hours.

Q: Do you like concessions during your movie?
A: Who's gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It's chocolate, it's peppermint, it's delicious! Unfortunately, I have to smuggle my own in at Court Street. Having one girl as cashier, soda-pourer, popcorn-scooper and customer service rep is bad enough. Throw in the fact that she couldn't care less? You're going to miss your movie.

Q: Do you like feeling like an idiot?
A: Again, LOVE IT. Want to give it a try? Marvel aloud in the elevator that there is a mechanic on the 9th floor of the building. Then realize there is a film playing called The Mechanic, with Jason Statham.

Q: How about feeling even less masculine than you already do?
A: It's basically a daily ritual! If you're interested in taking it up as a hobby, try this: allow yourself to be talked into a romantic comedy,* and then ride the elevator up with a bunch of dudes going to see an action film called The Mechanic.
    ____________

*No Strings Attached was actually surprisingly smart and funny. Yeah, I enjoyed the romance and the comedy, tied up in one film. Deal with it.

This truly is a crappy movie theatre. The only reason I still go on occasion is because its convenient for meeting after work between work and home.

I definitely got a work out this past Friday when I went to see Bridesmaids which was in the theatre on the top floor, and 3/4 of the escalators were broken.

For some Reason, When things are accessible to the PUBLIC it becomes ghetto and tacky! For starters the mass transit .. many trains and buses are nearby. Next door is Barnes and Nobles, and its 2 blocks from Atlantic Ave.

***Every time I come to this theater I wonder what makes parents think its ok to bring their infants to an adult movie?? Babies are crying, talking, they're walking around.. People are on cell phones, high school kids are loud.... What the heck is that?! We all pay for the movie have some respect! ****

The staff consists of High School, or recently graduated High School students, very immature. At nights there is always 2 police officers at the exit door**
    ...
Talking about door, the line is always long, if youre not using the kiosk which requires a credit or debit card you will be outside looking like an idiot forever waiting.. while people go in and out of Barnes and nobles and annoyingly say "excuse me, excuse me" smh

On the Good side, the theater may look small but consist of many levels. It is usually clean, the cleaning crew cleans after each movie.

Another benefit is to get a free Club member card. I have had one for years every few visits I receive free popcorn, drinks, even a movie ticket!
If you have no choice this is okay but not the best.

I get my ticket and stay in that theater and watch as many movies I want. They are oblivious, take advantage.

We should bring back segregated movie theaters.  Not by race, but by those who know how to shut the fuck up during a film and those who don't.

Those glass things they put over cake?  They should just set those over morons where there's just enough oxygen in there so they can breathe, but not talk.  Where the fuck are the ushers?  Used to be a time one could expect the aisles to be policed so that everyone could enjoy a film.  I'm paying nearly $15 a pop and there isn't a single usher around, but the cunt tearing tickets mind-numbingly still has a job and always knows when I bought the senior ticket in an attempt to save a coupla bux.

Better bet: Cobble Hill Cinema or Regal in Battery Park.  Trust.

Pros: Great sound, seats are comfty, and if your smart sneak in your food in a bookbag.

Cons: The kid behind you constantly kicking your seat. People picking up their phone and have a full blown conversation.

Anyhow this theater is good, and it does have too many stairs and the elevator is slow as molasses. Bottomline is you came here to see a movie.

Be prepared for it to not be a quiet movie going experience. There's no ushers that come in throughout the movie to check on things in the theater.

When I was there, the air conditioning on that particular floor was broken, so it was hot and stuffy. I could have handled hot and stuffy if people weren't continuously letting out all their hot air by gabbing throughout the whole move.

We've been customers of the UA Court Street in Brooklyn for awhile.  It's always been a questionable experience, but so far this summer it's been worse than ever.  After tonight, I don't think we'll be back.

We saw a movie last night with no air conditioning.  We sweated through 2 hrs.  When we expressed our disappointment we were comped two tickets.  Tonight, we returned with our certificates.  We asked if the air was back on, and the ticket taker said yes.  In a separate auditorium, 7 flights up from the prior night, there was no air again.  My husband completely unbuttoned his shirt and sat with it open the whole time.  Two sets of groups left the theater in the middle of the movie complaining about the sticky, thick, nasty air on the way out.  The lobby was very cool, which led us to believe that the lack of air in auditoriums is a cost cutting measure, and something staff was being dishonest about.  At the very least, it's something staff should make moviegoers aware of at the door.  For nearly $30, the experience should be comfortable, and it was not.  Two nights in a row.  And we're not even air conditioning people.  We're happy at home with a fan or two, but straight up, the theater was like a swampy pit.

On top of that, the theater is filthy.  Every time we get home from the UA Court St I wash my hands, and black runs into the sink.  Popcorn and wrappers are everywhere - ground into the escalator grooves, in corners, all over the carpets in the hallway.  Bathrooms have muddy puddles in them.  Floors are sticky.  Wrappers and drinks are left in the cup holders from prior patrons.

The escalators are often broken, and the theater is 7 stories high.

I tried to email the company directly.  They have a form on the regal site and it allows 255 *characters*.  That's about 4.75 words.  Regal's obviously not interested.

I'd rather spend my money elsewhere or not spend it at all than spend another $30 to be grossed out and sweaty at UA Court St.

Ok, so it's bad but not THAT bad.

My friend suggested that we meet at this theatre last night and after reading the reviews here, my inner movie theatre snob came out and I almost refused. Glad I didn't though.

Crowd: yes, ghetto but fortunately no was yelling at the screen like the ppl could hear them a la Scary Movie. One person in the back was on the phone for about a minute but it wasn't too loud. Still rude though.

It smelled a bit weird in there too, and my friend DID have to go all the way to damn first floor just to get a soda and some gummi bears cuz the other concession stands weren't open on the higher floors.

AND the screen did freeze for about 10 minutes, but thankfully this was before the previews even started.

BUT, it's conveniently located right next to Barnes & Noble so at least I can my book-reading on before the movie starts.

So yeah, not too shabby otherwise.

"very small lobby", "couple in front was watching porn on phone","Ghetto theater"...
Does any of that even matter?, NOOOOOO!!!
What matters is the fact that you can pay for 1 ticket and watch all the movies you want!!!. The service sucks so much that you can walk right pass the same workers 15 times and they wont ask to see a ticket stub. Now i don't know about you, but with the way this economy is right now wouldn't you prefer to get as much out of though's $12 as possible.

Ghetto as all hell.    I really cannot think of another way to describe this theater.  All they need to seal the deal is a Red Lobster Express counter inside. Akin to that theater in Times Square that has the Chile's restaurant.

    Is this a great theater?
    No

Is any trip to ANY 12 screen multiplex an exercise in refinement and culture?
    Also no

All these veiled (and not so veiled) comments about the "ghetto" aspects are just Brooklyn newbies not comfortable with so many black people around them.

Name me one movie theater in America with more than 10 screens that doesnt have obnoxious kids, loud people on phones, sticky floors and braindead teenage employees.

This has nothing to do with color or class, its a fucking multiplex, get over yourselves!

If you wanted to chortle with your life-partner about the latest and more sophisticated offerings at Angelika than you should have stayed the fuck out of Brooklyn.

I didn't want to go back to this place based on previous horrible experiences. I went to see "The Last Excorcism" tonight and it was hands down the worst movie theater experience I've ever had. There literally wasn't a moment during the movie where the crowd was silent. Shouting at every twist and turn. Stating the obvious's "Oh man did you see that?!" and children running all over the theater during AN EXORCISM movie.

Maybe the movie going experience in that neighborhood is grained into peoples minds differently than what I learned growing up, but hands down this theater attracts rude obnoxious movie goers. 100% worth skipping and going somewhere else.

Although the stadium seating is nice, and the concessions stand is fine, I have a real problem with how this theater is organized.

Yesterday, I went to see a 4:20 showing of The Help. When I arrived to the theater, I discovered that the showtime had been pushed back to 4:50. No big deal - I could wait 30 minutes, and enjoy some popcorn in the meantime.

While I waited outside of the theater, more folks who had expected to see the show at 4:20 arrived. Soon, the lobby was filled with patrons waiting to see the movie, and two lines had formed on either side of the theater. From my vantage point, no usher or other member of the theater's staff was in the lobby until around 4:40, just before the movie was slated to begin.

When the usher arrived, he told folks in the line where I was waiting to move behind the other line that had formed, for safety reasons. This would not have been a big deal had an usher been upstairs, from the moment the showtime changed, to direct traffic and make sure that people were lined up on the correct side of the theater in the lobby. However, people had been arriving since 4:00. Being told to move, when you're in a line of 30 folks who have been waiting patiently, is frustrating.

To make matters worse, when more ushers and one of the theater managers finally also showed up (around 4:50), the line of patrons was again asked to move. People began shuffling around, began cutting people in line, began loudly complaining - it was not a pleasant situation.

When we were finally allowed into the theater, the house lights were down, which meant that the 100-odd people who'd shown up to see The Help had to find their seats in the dark. And to top it all off, we had to sit through ads and the previews, even though by the time we were all seated, it was certainly after 4:50.

The manager who showed up explained that the movie time was pushed back because a different movie was screening in the theater before The Help, and that the theater staff had miscalculated the length of that prior movie in creating their screening schedule.

    It boils down to this:
    1. The staff mismanaged their schedule and had to reschedule the start time.
    2. When they rescheduled the start time, they did not think to put somebody in the lobby to assertively direct patrons. No ropes were set up to designate a line area, either.
    3. Patrons were asked to move several times, which created some disorganization and chaos in the lobby.
    4. The management made no attempt at an apology. To my knowledge, nobody was compensated for this taking place. I'm not sure if anybody tried to get their money back - by the time the show ended, I was more interested in getting on a train and going home.

All in all, a poor experience. It would take a lot to convince me to come back to this theater again.

Decent Theatre with stadium style seats and 3D capability in downtown Brooklyn.  Also, if you play your cards right you could potentially theatre hop.

There's never a dull moment at this place.  Whether it's a crying baby during a viewing of SAW II, or a fight breaking out over someone's cell phone ringing, this place never ceases to amuse.  Other highlights include, sitting next to a snoring lady the whole movie and an audience unable to control its laughter during the opening scene of 28 Days Later where the main character is naked.

    2.5-3 stars.

Can be ghetto. Or is actually...

Loud kids drives me crazy. Public schools needs to teach children about noise and speech volume. Actually they need to teach them how to behave in public.

Sometimes the theater isn't very clean.

But then... sometimes you can get lucky. Not messy, no loud people and no commentary shouting during the movie.

I can come to this theater but wouldn't be my first choice...

Its a nice big theater. They show all shows and nice food. The tickets are a little too expensive. The people are nice there. I hate it when the movie is on the top floor, because then we have to go up a lot of escliators, and sometime they are all broken. The seats are very comfortable and there are always AC during the summer. Good breathes. There is also a little arcade area where you can play games after or before the movie. Only 25 cent-50 cent-$1 games. This place is nice to watch movies... LUV IT

A GREAT THEATER FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED!

for some reason, the people that go to this theater don't realize that you are supposed to shut the f up during a film. between the proud yelling, nervous cackling, "aw shit"s, "shit son!"s "why she do that?!"s hoo has and hee hoos, it's impossible to focus. it would be easier to watch a film with a crowd of puppies.
it's tragic really because this place has super comfortable inclined seating, gigantic screens, and great sound. ah well.
