Don't come here for good service, because people there are too zen to really care about pleasing you.
The cookies? The BEST I've had so far in my life! I was truly impressed, who thought I'd say I love cookies one day?? But I am in love with the cookies from Two Tarts Bakery.
I am so glad we went back a second time because it wasn't opened yet the first time we went. Started the food venture way too early in the morning ;)
Everything looked like adorable cookies, but to me they were just cookies in the display case. I started reading the descriptions and ordered several to try, little did I know, I was biting into heaven! No kidding, we were speechless after the first bite, wow, these are sooooooo good! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!!!!! After finishing the first round, we ordered whatever that we didn't order the first round.... equally impressed.... even got a couple right out of the oven :D
super fresh, super tasty, super flavorful, non-dry, non-overly sweet, non-overly oily, I don't know what to say. You just have to give Two Tarts a try! Two Tarts Cookies = Love! :)
They are $0.75 each and $7.5 for a dozen
The service was seriously lacking in care. I want to make that very clear from the getgo, because I am a stickler for service. I don't think the service alone is what made me turned off to Two Tarts, but it's a major factor.
Both my simple order of "one of every cookie", and my friend's order of the same thing, resulted in more than one cookie missing from each of our collections. Considering that we paid for them, and I wanted to taste them, it came as a serious disappointment to find that cookies were missing from the box I intended to bring home.
And you know what's even worse? The server really did not even seem to care when this mistake was brought to his attention. There is not much I like less than someone hired to provide a service acting as though I'm a burden because I entered their shop looking to purchase products.
All in all, the cookies were mediocre (though there were two or three that I thought were pretty delicious), and I do not intend to return because well, dealing with the attitude is most definitely not worth the product.

Yes, I like my chocolate straight with no chaser-- I'm not a dunker. I am the girl that sits down with a butter knife and a pack of oreos; I dump the filling in a the nearest trash-bin. Yup, sorry double stuffed lovers-- I think that cream is just plain nasty. However, Two Tarts won my heart when they took the labor out of eating an oreo cookie!
MMMMMmm, their take on the oreo earns them 5 stars. I liked it better than their chocolate chocolate wedding cake, which was delicious and beautiful, but the salty butter cream filling in their coookie really won my heart! It was more of a cake like cookie-- like a fancy cakester. Mind you, I've never had a cakesture because I'm not eating packaged food these days, but if I opened one, I would want it to taste like Two Tarts cookie.
The salty cream filling is not too sweet and is the only butter cream I have ever liked- I had a few of these at a wedding armed with a butter knife, but my friend told me to put it down-- good call. I hate salt on savory food, but I love it on sweets! I'm a Two Tart cream fein!
Thank again for a fabulous take on an oreo cookie!
Let me pass along a little lesson learned... do not anger the sugar gods. Even if it is unintentional. They tend to hold a grudge. The second lesson, class, is that humor and obscure literary references can bite you in the ass.
So earlier this year, I wrote a review of a popular dessert spot in town that was intended to be funny and informative and it completely blew up in my face. And I felt very, very bad. But ultimately it was a good lesson in putting yourself in the owner's shoes when you write a review. Sometimes things aren't funny when it is your livelihood.
So the reason it felt like some karmic vengeance was being exacted is that my earlier review was a reaction to a business being unexpectedly closed when I arranged my day to visit after a couple months of drooling anticipation after a series of five star reviews.
About the same time I started trying to visit Two Tarts in their retail location. And it took me at least six tries to walk through the doors. My forays into Portland are sporadic and my schedule never seemed to synch up with their business hours. And it became comically frustrating because I'm usually in Nob Hill in the early morning. I don't know, pretty much the time you expect a bakery to be open. But they keep banker's hours. And those are actually shortened during the winter months.
So, after finally making it through the door, I have to say that the place is divine. It is clearly run with a mix of style, humor, creativity and quality artisan baking. The peanut butter crèmes, chocolate chip fleur de sel and double chocolate chews earned all the high praise heaped on them by others. I was particularly fond of the lavender shortbread cookie and one that is basically a gourmet Oreo (the cream tasted like it was fluffed by angels). Every cookie reminded me of something I've had before, only better. And they also sell whimsical t-shirts and onesies with the "tart" name. I was tempted to buy the Tart Vader. The entire business is elegant, yet playful.
These are bite-sized little treasures, so I recommend the bakers' dozen for $7.50 so you can taste a little bit of everything offered that day since the selection varies by season and as new creations are put in the mix. In these tight economic times, it is a thrill to spend as little as $.75 for something wonderful. Try it, you'll like it. Just check their business hours first.

3.5 Stars. (i really wish yelp had 1/2 stars)
it was a very long journey. we walked for miles. of course we made a few stop along the way b/c we wanted to explore the city. the neighborhood was really cute. it had that venice vibe with a lot of boutique stores and older architecture.
two tarts is a bakery tucked away in the corner of a really small shopping center. when we walked in, we were nicely greeted. there's a small shelf on the side of the cash register w/ all the baked goods on display. all the items were 75 cents each and they were bite size.
as usual, i wanted to sample everything so i got the baker's dozen and got one of each. i even doubled up on the peanut butter cookie and the fresh berry tarts.
out of 13 kinds of cookies, i really liked the peanut butter sandwich, chocolate with chocolate chips and the chocolate with cream filling (looks like a gourmet oreo). the rest could have been easily forgotten. there were a few that tasted like plain dough. Im not sure of the names, but one looked like a ball with cream in the middle and the other was in a shape of a croissant. i thought the mini tarts were very sour.
i was pleased w/ the texture of their cookies though. it was chewy and moist. and their petite size just leaves you wanting more. =)

Finally at last, my last Portland review.
I believe it was Don B again who lead me to this fine establishment.
Located in the very quaint, cutesy (did I just say that? dammit) and quietish part of NW Portland in a neighborhood that is known as the alphabet district. (in which the streets running perpendicular to the numbered streets go from A-Z South to North). I actually JUST realized that now... a good 10 days after coming back from my trip.
This place is all about bite size goodies. Everything is mignardise size, with the exception of maybe the lemon bars which would probably be two (or still one bite for some bigger eaters like me, hehe.
Everything looked very good and it was nice to see the kitchen staff toiling away in the open kitchen, working assembly line style on I wasn't sure what it was exactly. The multi-level display case showing off all of their items looked so good I probably could have stolen the thing. Well, not by myself obviously. I would need someone to distract them. I asked the lady what was good and of course, she said everything. She gave me her favorites and that's what I went with.
Everything is $.75 each, or you can get a baker's dozen for just $7.50 (and remember, no sales tax in Oregon... LOVED IT!!!!). I got a baker's dozen of an assortment of lemon bars, chocolate chip fleur de sel, hazelnut baci, triple threat, and... honestly at this point, I don't quite remember what else. Look at their website for the descriptions. They don't have EVERYTHING on their website I believe, but I could be wrong. I got that baker's dozen for my brother and sister in law to thank them for putting me up for my time there. Well, it was mainly for her since my brother doesn't have much of a sweet tooth but she does. Then I got a lemon bar, a hazelnut baci, a triple threat, and chocolate chip fleur de sel for myself.
Everything was really good but I would have to say my favorites were the chocolate chip fleur de sel because of that nice sweet and salty combo, and the hazelnut baci because well, I'm particular to anything hazelnut.
The staff was really nice and friendly and the place was cute and clean.
I'm definitely hitting up this place again on a return visit to Portland

Dear Two Tarts Bakery Goddess,
Please forgive me for what I've sinned. I skipped my "Going to Portland Farmers' market" routine yesterday. Now I'm craving for those little scrumptious sinful Lemon Bars and I have none.
I had $1.50 yesterday and it would be enough for two of those joyful delicious little things, instead I spent it on tokens at the Spring Beer & Wine Festival. This will be a good lesson for me, don't try to be a drunk, just stick being a cookie and dessert monster.
I promise, I'll come visit your booth next Saturday and satisfy my Lemon Bars need. Until then, I'll start collecting pennies to my piggy bank. Thank you for giving me another chance to be a better disciple of yours.
With love,
Olivia

I thought this was worth an update - so we all know this economy SUCKS right. OK & for me the first thing to go is treats ... that's places like Two Tarts.
Well for a special occasion I called & wanted a small box of goodies set aside. They actually said it was too small an order for them to bother with. WHAT!
Seriously too small WTF! Their are no small orders only small bakeries ... going under!

Crack in a Box.
$0.75 each or $7.50 for a baker's dozen.
It's the artisan sweet shop you've been searching for.
Cappuccino Creams, Pecan Tessies, Peanut Butter Creams, Hazelnut Baci, Pistachio Shortbread, ANZAC Cookies, Double Chocolate Chews, Ginger Chocolate Chip, Marionberry Linzer, Almond Anise Biscotti, Not-So-Thin Mint Bars, Chocolate Chip Fleur de Sel, Rugelach, and Triple Threat Chocolate.
Both the Peanut Butter Cream and Triple Threat Chocolate Cookies were perfectly sized, deliciously moist morsels of carefully baked goodness. It'd be hard to imagine any one who enjoys sweets not liking these.
In fact I think Two Tarts is now my go to place for thoughtful unique edible gifts. What better way to say "thanks" or "you rock" than crack in a box?
Bonus: Fans mourning the passing of "the Sugar Cube" will be delighted to find a familiar face (and can actually special order Kir magic cupcakes and other baked goods). See, the world hasn't ended (yet) and all is right again (sort of). http://www.thesugarcub.../

Sense of smell is one of the few things that the advertising world hasn't completely overtaken...yet. Sure, magazines smell like a gross mixture of Acqua di Gio and cK and Elizabeth Taylor with some soy-ink. Abercrombie & Fitch hires people to go around and spray diluted cologne and perfume onto their clothes. Two Tarts Bakery opens their beautiful wooden-windows to pull in innocent, not even really hungry, garage sale-searching Graham B. and myself on a sunny mid-morning.
It's as though we could smell the cinnamon cremes, peanut butter brownies and hazelnut baci from the street, past the unsightly parking lot. The wooden interior is like a hug from Grandma to say, "yes, you deserved that long and arduous trek through the woods to come to my house and eat delicious sweet things." We ordered a cup of individual-cup french press (Ethiopian) and waited our vintage timer, taking in the cross-breeze. The presentation of the bike-delivered coffee is quaint, but I wasn't extremely impressed with its flavour.
The baci is, as the website warns, messy, but so worth the chocolate-y center. The cappuccino cream was good, but I would probably rather eat 10 than 1 (in other words, one isn't satiating). Luckily, they sell baker's dozens for $7.50.
An added bonus is that Two Tarts sells their goods to lots of places around town, so that my nose and I are never too far away from their delicious tiny morsels (City Market NW, Coffeehouse NW, Mio Gelato, Zupans (Burnside, Macadam & Belmont) to name a few. A great idea for last-minute gift and/or a frugal dolce alternative to gelato or Papa Haydn's.

Two Tarts popped up in the newly renovated mini shopping center on NW 23rd and Kearney and found a niche; we were missing a quick, easy and high-quality cookie place for those of us who do not drool over cupcakes, gelatto or giant cakes.
I was able to pop in and get a bakers dozen for $7.50: lemon bars with a crumbled topping, smores cookies, a chocolate chip variety with fancier ingredients (I can't remember the names), passion fruit and, finally, a super fudgey chocolate cookie. Individual cookies are 75 cents. I just asked the woman behind the counter what she recommended, because everything looked so good. Just put the pressure on them and you'll walk out with a good selection no matter what.
The old Sugar Cube also seems to have found a home here, a total bonus.

Excellent. The cookies are a great size, as emphasized on the website. We literally cut the cookies up into quarters and eighths to sample them all, and even those tiny amounts are satisfying. The only negative aspect for me, actually, is that the cookies are a bit too rich and buttery. The smell of butter is almost overwhelming as you walk in! I can't believe that these cookies are so reasonably priced, too - they could EASILY be priced at twice their rate!

I was up in Portland over the Memorial Day weekend and came across Two Tarts' stand at the Saturday Farmers Market. Wow. While the woman in front of me might have ordered "one of these", pointing to a cookie, I followed her with "two of those, three of these, and some of that" pointing at everything.
Very tasty, especially the Peanut Butter Creams. Will be sending other LA friends in when they're in town. Wish we had a location down here. Cheers.

Yaaaaay Two Tarts earns the coveted 5 star rating!!!!
What a yummy little place this is! I am so happy they've opened up at this location!
We got the following cookies (with their respective reviews....)
Triple Threat: O. M. G. sooooo rich and wonderful. Love it.
PB cream: Pretty good. I liked it more than my husband and he's a pb cookie expert. He didn't like the cream filling. I thought the cookie outside could've been softer but nonetheless, a good little pb treat.
Cappuccino Cream: Meh. The inside was supery sugary.
Choco Chip: YUM! YUM! YUM! not much else to say.
Brownie w/ PB Top: Wow. Maybe the best brownie I've ever tasted.

Love this place-little delicious and beautiful cookies, that are obviously made with the best ingredients. I can't really resist stopping in if I am within a one block radius. I love love love the cappucino creams, and the hazelnut bacis are amazing too-like a mexican wedding cake they kind of shatter in your mouth.
Only one thing-I wish they had different boxes for their baker's dozen. They kind of pile them all up on top of eachother, and the ones on the bottom usually get crushed, and you have to dig around if there's a specific one you want. A flatter wider box might work better.

Before they opened up a permanent storefront, Two Tarts was almost my sole reason for going to the Saturday farmer's market. Sure, there are a lot of fresh offerings there, but to this day, none compare to these cookies.
Words cannot describe how amazing they are and, in fact, you won't be able to speak once you take your first bite. Moaning and eye-rolling is encouraged and probably unavoidable.
I highly recommend the Peanut Butter Creams, Chocolate Chip Fleur de Sel, and the ANZAC when the have them. Really, you can't go wrong but these are the standouts of the outstanding cookies from Two Tarts.
Now that they have a retail bakery, I might have to move downtown. It's almost physically painful to not be eating these cookies right now...

It is 7:47 AM and just the thought of Two Tarts is making my mouth water. I have sampled their goodies in other retail locations and while always finding them delicious, I was put off a bit by the price.
Price is no longer a barrier since they opened their retail store. 3 quarters and you walk away with a smile, $7.50 and you have dessert for 6. If Elizabeth would have me I think I would throw my heterosexuality out the door and beg her to be my wife. Seriously good treats, warm, friendly atmosphere - I am in love.

So i cheated, i haven't been into their retail location, but i have had their cookies and now i'm hooked.
I was at the Beaverton's farmers market (which is an awesome place) and i was walking around when i noticed chocolate chip cookies with fleur de sel. Anything with fleur de sel will catch my attention.
The first cookie i had was ok, but that could have been because i been tasting so many things out there that it messes up my taste buds. So i got home and i started eating my other cookies and i haven't stop yet. Well when i wrote this i had to because i was out!
I must go back i need more cookies! i need more to give me inspiration to write, that's my excuse and i'm sticking with it!

"Ay, Mamacita!"
That's usually what I'd hear from the drunk guys yelling across Mission street, to which I'd respond, "No hablo Espanol!" (with a hard "H").
But now, I understand: when you see a good thing, and you can't contain yourself, you gotta yell, "Ay, Mamacita!" (hey, I look like a good thing with beer goggles).
So, venturing into Two Tarts, a warm, glowing, sweet-smelling alcove on a sloping street, I had to declare "Ay, Mamacita! Look at those cookies! Give me a dozen." For every cookie you order out loud - marionberry linzer, cappucino bites, hazelnut sandwich cookies, not-so-thin mints - your internal voice murmurs, "are you kidding me?!" Each sounds so good, and tastes just as great.
Plus, the people there are stupendously nice, a welcome contrast from the begrudging and largely rude service you come across in like bakeries in my town!
I'd come here every day if I lived here.

Down-to-earth staff baking delicious gourmet cookies. You'll salivate in their new storefront more than watching Food TV hungry at midnight. Drinking their coffee while spending an hour or two watching cookie construction is an excellent way to spend the morning.

Desserts before dinner. That's how I live. For other, it's the perfect afternoon snack. We walked into Two Tarts to warm ourselves up from an unusually cold Portland day. We silently and swiftly devoured a Smores Cookie, a Chocolate Chip Cookie and a Lemon Bar. The Lemon Bar was like I remembered; perfectly sweet and perfectly tart. The Chocolate Chip Cookie was good, but it was kind of thin; we usually like our cookies a little bit thicker. The Smores Cookie had a subtle sweetness; it could have been because we ate the Lemon Bar first. The Smores Cookies consisted of house made marshmallow and house made graham crackers dipped in chocolate. What a treat!

French-pressed coffee with timer (nice touch and great taste) and a varied assortment of baked goods from cookies to brownies. Their miniature bite-sized pumpkin-pie thing-a-majingers are incredible.
Smallish seating area, but they still managed to dedicate a corner for the kids to play. A great way to keep contented children and parents eating cookies.
An excellent local place to escape to on a rainy, or snowy, day. Envious east-siders moan about "trendy-third", but they're simply jealous. Most places around here are like Two Tarts: local and exceptional.

I'm so glad I moved to my new condo which is only two blocks away... but is that good or bad? I hope I don't gain weight because of this place. Months ago Two Tarts Bakery cookies have been appearing all over Portland, such as Por Que No and Whole Bowl... but now they have a place opened up right in the 23rd Ave corner next to Laurelwood Brewery Pub. So its never packed in there... maybe it is still a secret from the tourists and suburb moms. So some of my favourite two tarts: hazelnut balls (YUM, with chocolate in the middle), lemon bar (best ever had), cappucino cookie (looks like a small sandwich, so cute), and everything is about 75cent, or a baker's dozen $7.50 (which is 13! You get 3 extra :D) They also have daily special bites. I think once I had some sort of almond cookie (not the biscotti). Did I also mention since my coworker knows one of the baker... we get free and extra cookies... so bad, I'm gonna have hardcore cavity.
I also heard Sugar Cube owner Kir started selling her yummy cupcakes here. I can't wait! I hope she still serves smoothies and soup.
delicious bite size tarts for momma and poppa and play table for our one tot.
DANGER! They are building a store 3 blocks from my house. I may never fit into my "cute" jeans again. I love that all of their cookies are only .75 each, or $7.50 for a bakers dozen. This morning I enjoyed one of their peanut butter sandwich cookies, and one of their lemon squares. So delectable!

Two Tarts is a dynamic sister-duo that bakes up tiny and unbelievably delicious cookies in Portland. I couldn't believe how much flavor and goodness they pack into this small package. The cinnamon-laden cappuccino cream cookies are my favorite, but every cookie in their line is wonderful. Double chocolate treats, lavender shortbread, little pecan delights.... This list goes on and on.
Two Tarts are sold at Farmer's markets, and you can also find them at the Busy Corner Cafe and Pastaworks. For special orders, call their number.

Boy, if you want to surprise me, have someone from Two Tarts show up at my door with a huge box of delicious, unique cookies!
We gobbled them down --- especially those round hazelnut-chocolate-shortbread miracles --- and raved about them all weekend.
Next time you want to send someone a special sweet treat, think about a box of supmtin-sumptin from Two Tarts.
