Emeryville, CA
Amazing, local company providing a really unique and delicious product.
The owner is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. She uses local goods when she can - the local berry treats in the summer are the BOMB!
The French macaroons are not only to die for, but also gluten free!
Also, the lil' mamas are a classic: think gourmet Oreo! -
Review from Amado L.
This is a perfect little bakery that's a perfectly short walk from my perfect home. (Okay, that last part is a stretch.)
Get their bakers's dozen, and I will bet you money that you won't be able to scarf all of those bite-sized marvels in one sitting. I know I did one time. Okay, maybe twice before. But who's counting?
I can't even decide what variety I love the best, but I may have to put a vote for their macaroons. SBBJ (Sweet Bald Baby Jesus), they're great!
Box their cookies up, and give them out as perfect little gifts. -

If you hear the doctor screams when she gets her Two Tarts treats, you know they are fantastic.
As a holiday/thank you gift, I hiked some miles to 23rd and purchased a baker's dozen for my career mentors, who absolutely adored the jewel-sized gourmet cookies. Their fantastic packaging and general product presentation gained me some happy faces, especially from the ladies.
I highly suggest this as a present for everyone in any occasion!
For $8 you get 13 tiny cookies, which don't seem a lot due to size but they are so delicately made that I say every single one is worth its price. Or you can get a few in pastry bags for $0.8 each, which makes a nice casual treat too.
Really can't go wrong with any of the seasonal choices in the bakery's display case. Personally, I love love love the macaroons and lemon bars--perfect taste; perfect size (ahem on diet)!Listed in: I'm Addicted

I've always purchased their items at the Saturday market at PSU. The women who work at the market stall are incredibly nice and the lovely cookies and brownies taste great! I just so happened to the in NW, so I decided to stop by their store. T
here was one woman working there, and she was so incredibly rude! She didn't say hi, hello, or anything! I told her which items I wanted (6 cookies), but when I got home I found out that there were only 5 (I paid for 6). Anyway, I paid in cash - the exact amount because I had change to get rid of and the woman seemed so incredibly pissed off that she had to count the change (I gave her 4 dollars bills and 80 cents). Then she practically threw the bag at me and walked away.
One of the cookies I got was the lil mama and the cookie was so hard that I am guessing it was old. I most definitely won't be going back to Two Tarts - both their store and market stall. -

I tried their cappuccino cookie and hazelnut ones. The cappuccino one was really good, but I really love things with coffee in it. They're tiny cookies at 80 cents a piece. It was a nice place to try out, but I probably won't go back.

Wonderful bakery in the NW area and a must-stop of any sugar lovers. Most of their confections are bite sized, but they are most perfect in every way. Their pumpkin whoopie pies, chocolate chip cookies with sea salt, lemon bars....oh my! They are all so very good.
Everything as of late is 80 cents each or $8 for a bakers dozen. Not terrible, but a little spendy.
They also venture out to the PSU street market on the weekends. I highly recommend Two Tarts for anyone wanting to satisfy their sweet tooth! -

This is a cool little bakery, with one problem: odd operating hours. It was closed 3 of the 5 times we've been by in the last 3 months, usually mid afternoon (yesterday we swung by at 4 pm, closed..sign says it's open till 6 pm). This is no way to build a loyal following or local brand. My wife is gluten intolerant and loves their little bakery goods but it's hard when they're working banker's (bakers?) hours.

Review from Carrie S.
I came here to purchase treats for an office get together, since my element in my stove burned out on a Sunday. I think that was probably a blessing in disguise.
Two Tarts is a small little shop with amazing artisan treats. And, a great selection.
This is NOT a gluten free shop, so I can only tell you what my co-workers thoughts were on the taste.
I purchased some brownies, lemon bars, and an assortment of cookies. It was soo cheap. And, my co-workers loved me for it. The box was gone in 2.5 seconds.
The atmosphere is super cute, and the staff was really friendly.
Please stop buy, grab a coffee, and some goodies. You will not regret it!! -

Chocolate. Salted. Cookies.
They could possibly be laced with crack for how often I want to shovel them in my mouth.
The bakers are just as sweet as their cookies. I mean their nice. They've handled last minute orders like a charm.
Some days I'm so glad that I work down the street from them, it means I get to shovel cookies in my mouth whenever I want. Other days. . . well let's say I'm hoping to not go up a dress size. -

Sometimes desserts can be over the top. Sometimes you don't want to feel sick to your tummy with suger. Sometimes all you really want is a lil' bite of deliciousness and still have space to breathe. Two Tarts Bakery is the place to go!
My husband and I were happy to stumble upon this super cozy bakery. He really enjoyed the lemon tart and I really liked their blueberry almond macaroon. We also tried their salted chocolate chip cookie and shortbread cookie. All super delicious. And I'll be cheesy and say, you can taste the love in their baking.
Too bad I don't live in Portland. If I do ever visit again, I'll be sure to bring home a baker dozen! -
Review from Amiee H.
I tried a macaroon, peanut cookie sandwich and a lemon bar. I wasn't too impressed with the peanut cookie sandwich or the lemon bar but the macaroon was ok. It was pretty cheap, $0.80 a piece but it wasn't too impressive so I don't know if I'll try it again...

Wow... I don't really eat dessert... How did they make me buy 2 boxes of cookies??? Choc chip with sea salt and lavender shortbread were incredible. Actually the best part is you can try a bunch of flavors which are all well done.
Don't get their coffee--I actually like the toddy cold brew but they messed it up somehow... -

I bought an assortment of cookies from Two Tarts Bakery. My brothers loved the brownies and peanut butter creams! They also really liked the lil' mamas. The Cappuccino Creams are my personal fav. The cookies are small and not overly sweet. mmmmm

I love me some Two Tarts!
I've been here several times now and it has become a regular stop each time I come up to Portland. Each little treat is perfect for snacking and the variety offers a little something for everyone.
Their teas and ice cream are good too.
Seating is limited, but the lobby is quaint and cozy. I also like that they have an open kitchen, so you can sit at the bar and watch them make goodies. -

many bite sized morsels here like fleur de sel cookies, whoopie pie, hazelnut baci. if outside though in the winter, the stuff gets hard.

My hubby and I stumbled on this place while walking on NW 23rd. What a find!!
I was so excited to see these little tarts! I love sweets but they always seem to be super-sized. These are the perfect size. My first visit started with a baker's dozen and I would recommend the same!
Sorry can't pick a fav, all of them were scrumptious!! -

all of two tarts bakery items are bite-sized...bite-sized sweets are inherently tastier than it's bigger version...this is a clinical fact--just like the bite-sized snickers are yummier than the original size...and oh, everything is only $0.80 each or $8.00 for a baker's dozen...
i was a little skeptical at first because it was so cheap, but was totally won over after the first bite of their lavender infused shortbread...i purchased these from their stand at the portland state university farmer's market...the shortbread was definitely made from high quality ingredients...it tasted fresh and had a lovely flakiness...also had a nice lavender flavor...
couldn't help myself from picking up the lil mamas (a chewy chocolate cookie sandwich with a cream center), shortbread cookie sandwich with cassis cream, brownies (very rich and fudgey with raspberry paste)...all very yummy...the lil mamas and the brownies were probably my favorite...
the little goodies were so good...had to get another fix before i left portland...was almost at PDX airport but had to turn around to get some more lil mamas and the brownies...aaaand lemon bar, green tea shortbread cookies, and fleur de sel chocolate chip cookies...everything was packaged in a cute box with a ribbon...http://www.yelp.com/bi...
i can't wait to go back the next time i am in portland... -

The fleur de sel chocolate chips cookies are good. They are about the size of a chipahoy and they are soft and chewy with a sprinkle of salt.
When you walk in, the aromas of butter and sugar hit you like BAM! -

So happy to have ventured into Two Tarts today. I left with 13 tasty treats in a box with a sweet ribbon. Everything looks scrumptious. My favorites are the lemon bar ( very lemony!), the brownie, the cinnamon pecan rughela (sp?), and the fleur de sel cookie, yum!!!
The service was lovely. A very friendly and lovely lady patiently took my order. Nice selection of coffee and fine teas. The pastries are near perfect. I will be back, after I lose a few lbs. Goooooood stuff! -

Wow.
I 've never been much of a cookie person, I prefer cakes and pastries. But this place has converted me to a true cookie monster. I took a bite of each one when I got the Baker's dozen. It's truly hard to decide which one is my favorite, but i'm leaning towards the lemon bar, passionfruit creme, pecan tessie, or peanut butter cream. But I must come back to try the marionberry linzer.
Very cute space, that actually has lot parking, which is a rarity in the Alphabet district. I will definitely be a regular! -

Ordered the peanut butter cream and the fleur de sel chocolate chip cookie ($0.75 each).
Bite, bite.
In love.
Thank you.
Refueled and off to shop some more . . .
HIGHLY RECOMMEND the peanut butter creams.Listed in: 72-HOUR TRIP: PORTLAND!

Chocolate chip Fleur de Sal. Need i say more.
The moment these cookies hit my lips i became instantly obsessed with salted chocolates. The littlest bit of salt sprinkled on top of these small but oh so perfect chocolate chip cookies. amazing. you know that moment in ratatouille where Remy tries to explain to his brother what flavors are and has him eat the grape and cheese-cut to- fireworks? yea... it was one of those moments for me the moment i had that cookie.
We got a small box of assorted cookies, oreo-esk, pecan pralines, basically everything they were offering.
Will definitely be going back in my next visit. I still have dreams about those cookies... -

Now what starts with the letter C?
Cookie starts with the letter C.
Let's think of other things that start with the letter C...oh who cares about those other things.
I ordered two bakers dozens on Saturday. There are 3 cookies left amongst the crumbs and cookie carnage. The Fluer-de-sel cookie is still my favorite but I discovered the Hazelnut Baci. Hazelnut shortbread filled with dark chocolate ganache and topped with hazelnut fairy dust. Guaranteed to help you find your happy thought. So with that being said...
C is for cookie that's good enough for me.

Dear Two Tarts Bakery Goddess,
Please forgive me for what I've sinned. I skipped my "Going to Portland Farmers' market" routine yesterday. Now I'm craving for those little scrumptious sinful Lemon Bars and I have none.
I had $1.50 yesterday and it would be enough for two of those joyful delicious little things, instead I spent it on tokens at the Spring Beer & Wine Festival. This will be a good lesson for me, don't try to be a drunk, just stick being a cookie and dessert monster.
I promise, I'll come visit your booth next Saturday and satisfy my Lemon Bars need. Until then, I'll start collecting pennies to my piggy bank. Thank you for giving me another chance to be a better disciple of yours.
With love,

Mmmmmm! I unexpectedly had some time to hit a few places on NW 23rd and was jonesing for something savory having skipped lunch knowing I would soon be nibbling way to many sweet calories at a game night.
The fingers of fresh baked goods made their way to my senses before the bakery was in sight. I resisted by stepping in to two stores and was heading away when suddenly I found my body over ruling my brain.
Stepping in I glanced at the case and asked, "do you have anything savory?" the reply was "only sweet".
Me: "Well, okay, I'll just take a peek for when I do want something sweet."
"oh, everything smells so good and looks lovely, I'll just take that little chocolate thingy on top"
Staff: (with a knowing grin) ".75 cents please"
Me: "I'd like that in a little bag please, for later"
Before I knew it, I was looking in the case again, and the staff person was washing her hands after handling the money.
Me: "Oh my, Ginger Shortbread Cookies, I think I'll take one of those too, you can just add it to my bag"
As I left, the lovely staff person turned to wash her hands again, and exchanged a knowing look with her counterpart, as if saying "oh, she'll be back and there is no way she'll wait until later to indulge!"
Well, she was half right, I did wait about 40 minutes and then I decided I should really eat the lovely little cookies so that I could judge the morsels while fresh.
And its been 48 hours and I haven't gone back yet.
Okay, okay, you got me, I must confess I've already made a plan with a friend to meet there next week for "coffee" ;-)
Really, you must go in and indulge yourself with these extremely wonderful little delicate morsels of heaven.
And if you like, you can let me know ahead of time so I can meet you there for "coffee" too. -

Finally at last, my last Portland review.
I believe it was Don B again who lead me to this fine establishment.
Located in the very quaint, cutesy (did I just say that? dammit) and quietish part of NW Portland in a neighborhood that is known as the alphabet district. (in which the streets running perpendicular to the numbered streets go from A-Z South to North). I actually JUST realized that now... a good 10 days after coming back from my trip.
This place is all about bite size goodies. Everything is mignardise size, with the exception of maybe the lemon bars which would probably be two (or still one bite for some bigger eaters like me, hehe.
Everything looked very good and it was nice to see the kitchen staff toiling away in the open kitchen, working assembly line style on I wasn't sure what it was exactly. The multi-level display case showing off all of their items looked so good I probably could have stolen the thing. Well, not by myself obviously. I would need someone to distract them. I asked the lady what was good and of course, she said everything. She gave me her favorites and that's what I went with.
Everything is $.75 each, or you can get a baker's dozen for just $7.50 (and remember, no sales tax in Oregon... LOVED IT!!!!). I got a baker's dozen of an assortment of lemon bars, chocolate chip fleur de sel, hazelnut baci, triple threat, and... honestly at this point, I don't quite remember what else. Look at their website for the descriptions. They don't have EVERYTHING on their website I believe, but I could be wrong. I got that baker's dozen for my brother and sister in law to thank them for putting me up for my time there. Well, it was mainly for her since my brother doesn't have much of a sweet tooth but she does. Then I got a lemon bar, a hazelnut baci, a triple threat, and chocolate chip fleur de sel for myself.
Everything was really good but I would have to say my favorites were the chocolate chip fleur de sel because of that nice sweet and salty combo, and the hazelnut baci because well, I'm particular to anything hazelnut.
The staff was really nice and friendly and the place was cute and clean.
I'm definitely hitting up this place again on a return visit to PortlandListed in: Portland, OR

Crack in a Box.
$0.75 each or $7.50 for a baker's dozen.
It's the artisan sweet shop you've been searching for.
Cappuccino Creams, Pecan Tessies, Peanut Butter Creams, Hazelnut Baci, Pistachio Shortbread, ANZAC Cookies, Double Chocolate Chews, Ginger Chocolate Chip, Marionberry Linzer, Almond Anise Biscotti, Not-So-Thin Mint Bars, Chocolate Chip Fleur de Sel, Rugelach, and Triple Threat Chocolate.
Both the Peanut Butter Cream and Triple Threat Chocolate Cookies were perfectly sized, deliciously moist morsels of carefully baked goodness. It'd be hard to imagine any one who enjoys sweets not liking these.
In fact I think Two Tarts is now my go to place for thoughtful unique edible gifts. What better way to say "thanks" or "you rock" than crack in a box?
Bonus: Fans mourning the passing of "the Sugar Cube" will be delighted to find a familiar face (and can actually special order Kir magic cupcakes and other baked goods). See, the world hasn't ended (yet) and all is right again (sort of). http://www.thesugarcub.../ -

Review from Jen K.
Let me pass along a little lesson learned... do not anger the sugar gods. Even if it is unintentional. They tend to hold a grudge. The second lesson, class, is that humor and obscure literary references can bite you in the ass.
So earlier this year, I wrote a review of a popular dessert spot in town that was intended to be funny and informative and it completely blew up in my face. And I felt very, very bad. But ultimately it was a good lesson in putting yourself in the owner's shoes when you write a review. Sometimes things aren't funny when it is your livelihood.
So the reason it felt like some karmic vengeance was being exacted is that my earlier review was a reaction to a business being unexpectedly closed when I arranged my day to visit after a couple months of drooling anticipation after a series of five star reviews.
About the same time I started trying to visit Two Tarts in their retail location. And it took me at least six tries to walk through the doors. My forays into Portland are sporadic and my schedule never seemed to synch up with their business hours. And it became comically frustrating because I'm usually in Nob Hill in the early morning. I don't know, pretty much the time you expect a bakery to be open. But they keep banker's hours. And those are actually shortened during the winter months.
So, after finally making it through the door, I have to say that the place is divine. It is clearly run with a mix of style, humor, creativity and quality artisan baking. The peanut butter crèmes, chocolate chip fleur de sel and double chocolate chews earned all the high praise heaped on them by others. I was particularly fond of the lavender shortbread cookie and one that is basically a gourmet Oreo (the cream tasted like it was fluffed by angels). Every cookie reminded me of something I've had before, only better. And they also sell whimsical t-shirts and onesies with the "tart" name. I was tempted to buy the Tart Vader. The entire business is elegant, yet playful.
These are bite-sized little treasures, so I recommend the bakers' dozen for $7.50 so you can taste a little bit of everything offered that day since the selection varies by season and as new creations are put in the mix. In these tight economic times, it is a thrill to spend as little as $.75 for something wonderful. Try it, you'll like it. Just check their business hours first.Listed in: Sweets for the Sweet

Holy sweet macarolly, this place is adorably small, has it's own parking lot and smells delicious before you even open the door. I went with the Bakers dozen because the cookies are small and I have a BIG sweet tooth. The peanut butter cremes are good like nutter butter used to be. The chocolate chips are sweet with a sprinkle of must have salt. The ones that looked like Oreo's were also a favorite, chewy like a brownie and creamy inside.
This place is now on my rotation whenever my PMS calls. Cookies are so awesome!!! -

I wish I'd had the forethought to photograph my food. But I'm a pig.
I ordered a baker's dozen + 1 (one of everything) to share with my boyfriend.
Baker's Dozen = $7.50, each cookie = $0.75.
Things I Loved:
Neopolitan, Lil Mama (mmm like a Suzy Q, homemade with love), lemon bar, chocolate cheesecake brownie(!!!), fleur de sel chocolate chip cookie.
Surprise winner: Strawberry Basil-whatever. The creme stuff is so good!
Meh:
Peanutbutter in general. The coconut oatmeal cookie I had tasted dry. But I still ate it. Like I said, I am kind of a pig when it comes to sugar.
I will return. I will gain weight. It's worth it.
Also: they serve IZZE, which I love. The atmosphere was cutesy, almost childlike? I liked it but I can see where children would pile up here. I think there's also a children's toy store/clothing store or something in the same strip mall.
Something I also loved: handmade kid's art. I love seeing kid's spelling and drawings. "THANKS FOR COOKIES, YOU ARE NISE" was a favorite. One kid gave up spelling Elizabeth and wrote "THKS E." and one kid seriously made up his own language. I think I remember a Q being involved. Good times. I will return.
MTA: I dreamt about Two Tarts last night, that's how good it was. I had a dream I could order online and choose a custom knapsack to cart out my plentiful cornicopia of goods. It was glorious. -

Ugh...
I have yet to actually PHYSICALLY make it here, but I believe that it soon may be impossible for that to happen if I keep picking up baker's dozens from the PSU Farmer's Market or having my friends swing by and get them for me. (Read: Become morbidly obese and physically immobile from laziness and Two Tarts overload.)
You see, for me, "Two Tarts" are simply not enough. Nor are three, four, or five. Sometimes I'll go through SIX! WHOLE! TARTS! (in like, a minute) and still think to myself, "Well...that's not even 50% of the ($7.50!) box yet...let's keep the streak going!" I just can't help myself when their goodies are so adorable and delicious.
Passionfruit Creams...love you.
Black Currant Macaroons...love you too.
Rhubarb Thumbprints...la la love you.
Lemon bars...will you marry me?
Two Tarts, I wanna spend the rest of my life with you. -

So i cheated, i haven't been into their retail location, but i have had their cookies and now i'm hooked.
I was at the Beaverton's farmers market (which is an awesome place) and i was walking around when i noticed chocolate chip cookies with fleur de sel. Anything with fleur de sel will catch my attention.
The first cookie i had was ok, but that could have been because i been tasting so many things out there that it messes up my taste buds. So i got home and i started eating my other cookies and i haven't stop yet. Well when i wrote this i had to because i was out!
I must go back i need more cookies! i need more to give me inspiration to write, that's my excuse and i'm sticking with it! -
Review from Josh W.
Before they opened up a permanent storefront, Two Tarts was almost my sole reason for going to the Saturday farmer's market. Sure, there are a lot of fresh offerings there, but to this day, none compare to these cookies.
Words cannot describe how amazing they are and, in fact, you won't be able to speak once you take your first bite. Moaning and eye-rolling is encouraged and probably unavoidable.
I highly recommend the Peanut Butter Creams, Chocolate Chip Fleur de Sel, and the ANZAC when the have them. Really, you can't go wrong but these are the standouts of the outstanding cookies from Two Tarts.
Now that they have a retail bakery, I might have to move downtown. It's almost physically painful to not be eating these cookies right now... -

Two Tarts popped up in the newly renovated mini shopping center on NW 23rd and Kearney and found a niche; we were missing a quick, easy and high-quality cookie place for those of us who do not drool over cupcakes, gelatto or giant cakes.
I was able to pop in and get a bakers dozen for $7.50: lemon bars with a crumbled topping, smores cookies, a chocolate chip variety with fancier ingredients (I can't remember the names), passion fruit and, finally, a super fudgey chocolate cookie. Individual cookies are 75 cents. I just asked the woman behind the counter what she recommended, because everything looked so good. Just put the pressure on them and you'll walk out with a good selection no matter what.
The old Sugar Cube also seems to have found a home here, a total bonus. -

"Ay, Mamacita!"
That's usually what I'd hear from the drunk guys yelling across Mission street, to which I'd respond, "No hablo Espanol!" (with a hard "H").
But now, I understand: when you see a good thing, and you can't contain yourself, you gotta yell, "Ay, Mamacita!" (hey, I look like a good thing with beer goggles).
So, venturing into Two Tarts, a warm, glowing, sweet-smelling alcove on a sloping street, I had to declare "Ay, Mamacita! Look at those cookies! Give me a dozen." For every cookie you order out loud - marionberry linzer, cappucino bites, hazelnut sandwich cookies, not-so-thin mints - your internal voice murmurs, "are you kidding me?!" Each sounds so good, and tastes just as great.
Plus, the people there are stupendously nice, a welcome contrast from the begrudging and largely rude service you come across in like bakeries in my town!
I'd come here every day if I lived here. -

Oh my oh my! So delicious! Two Tarts provided the desserts for our Spring Wedding, and it was so tasty! We love their bite-lets in general, so it was even better to be able to order a firetruckin' ton of them to share with everyone! They were great to work with for a bigger order, we did a tasting a few weeks before the wedding, and set up a pick up time, including display tiers, tray covers, and little signs. These are some dangerously good desserts and some really awesome bakers (and very affordable)!!

San Francisco, CA
The service was seriously lacking in care. I want to make that very clear from the getgo, because I am a stickler for service. I don't think the service alone is what made me turned off to Two Tarts, but it's a major factor.
Both my simple order of "one of every cookie", and my friend's order of the same thing, resulted in more than one cookie missing from each of our collections. Considering that we paid for them, and I wanted to taste them, it came as a serious disappointment to find that cookies were missing from the box I intended to bring home.
And you know what's even worse? The server really did not even seem to care when this mistake was brought to his attention. There is not much I like less than someone hired to provide a service acting as though I'm a burden because I entered their shop looking to purchase products.
All in all, the cookies were mediocre (though there were two or three that I thought were pretty delicious), and I do not intend to return because well, dealing with the attitude is most definitely not worth the product.
