Review from Simon J.
Anaheim, CA
I was in Roanoke visiting from friends. We were walking along downtown from a nearby coffee shop when we heard Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and simply had to go in. The two of them had already been there, but I was a newbie. Unfortunately they did not have lamb or kangaroo that day so I got to lose my buffalo meat virginity that day! It was a little on the expensive side but they have delicious root beer with free refills and a pickle bar. Service is also okay. The burger was delicious and juicy and even the bread was palatable.
I might sound kind of blase but I really, seriously enjoy this restaurant. Five stars because I have nothing bad to say about it. If I lived in Roanoke I'd probably be a regular. -

Great atmosphere. Good energy in this place. You really want to love it. But I can't. My burger was cooked as ordered (medium rare) and I got it without anything except some lettuce and tomato on the plate. Used their chipole ketcup and that was it. Decent sized burger, a bit greasy and the roll is ok. Had the fried onion strips which were greasy as well, but tasted good. Actually enjoyed these on the scond half of my burger.
My wife and daughter had the turkey burgers. I tried it. It had more flavor than the beef and likely a bit healthier. My daughter had the fries. Soggy. Need to be crispier.
They had buffalo on the menu but they only cook it medium well? Only like buffalo rare or loses it's flavor.
We will be back because it is bright, open and lively with friendly and efficient service. Still searching for the killer burger in Dallas. -

Twisted Root serves up some damn good burgers.
I just have a few complaints with this place...
1. They got rid of their delicious curly fries. WHY!?
2. The location. I know for some, though, this might be a plus. But I hate coming out to Roanoke and parking in (and walking around in) dirt.
3. The prices are bit high. The burgers are massive, though, so ehhh this isn't too big of a deal.
Oh, and get their flavored root beer...It's pretty damn delicious. -

I absolutely LOVE the Buffalo/Venison burger, but you have to know to ask for the mix of the meats....They can keep the root beer, but the shakes are to die for.....

I ate here a few weeks ago with a friend. Loved the burger. A little pricey and probably would not take my kids due to price but a great burger.

I don't like the atmosphere at this location as much as the original in Deep Ellum, but it's closer and has the same yummy food. Make sure to try the homemade sauces and unique pickles. You can't go wrong with the burgers (actually the buffalo is my favorite and I'm glad they offer it).

The burgers here are excellent but a little pricey if you go for the non standard meats. The veggie burger is not very good but the buffalo is delicious, as are all of the other game meats I've tried.
The cooks can't quite seem to get "medium" right, though. Ask for medium-rare if you want your patty cooked medium. -

Good burgers, fun atmosphere. The choices are unique and delicious. We ordered the spicy goat and frito pie burger. Good stuff. My only complaint is the the goat cheese was very cold and hard to spread on my burger. I was expecting it to somewhat melted. The hubs says his frito pie thing was really good, but would have like the toppings a bit heavier. Personally, I did't like the fries, but loved the ancho ketchup. Since they have plenty of other sides, totally worth another shot when in the area. Love the choices in pickles too!

Another burger joint that I was hesitant to try because of how everyone just kept raving about it . I thought that it was too good to be true, just like all the other burger joints that my friends rave about . Not sure if that is any indication that my friends have crappy tastes when it comes to burgers, or that I have too high standards .
In either case, I love this place ! Been here twice recently and had the bison burger both times ! The meat is relatively lean and not dripping in grease like the other burgers that I see my friends getting . And sweet potatoe fries , of course .
Only complaint is the long line . But I guess that's expected when you go to a place this good . Get there early or late to avoid the crowds ! -

Had heard great things about this place since moving back to Dallas. Won't be going back. $35 for two burgers, a beer, and 2 teas. If they were out of this world good I wouldn't mind, but average at best is how I describe it. Maybe they have changed, maybe it was a bad day, not sure, don't care.
Screwed up our order, chili was all over my wife's container which of course ruined her shirt. Waited 45 minutes to fix the order. No customer service. Nothing can make me recommend the place. -

This might be one of the better burger joints in the DFW area...
Ok first the NEGATIVES:
PRICE: At almost $13 for Bacon cheese burger, fries, & small soda, the price seems a bit steep for a burger meal.
FRIES: They are pretty pedestrian and give you WAY too many for one person, that's where they get you on the price too. If you share your fries with another the price and amount won't be so noticeable.
BURGER: There is only one size offering (1/2#), and one way to have it Plus you have to get the fixings and make your own burger (good & bad, lol). Shouldn't your burger be finished if you charge that much? cooked.
PARKING: Unless you're lucky, you'll do some walking to get to the restaurant. Plus you're not really sure where it is ok to park
Now on to the POSITIVES:
BURGERS: For a burger to be one of the better ones in an area it must start and end with the meat. It better have some taste to it or I'm done pretty quick. The standard beef on these are very tasty! They also have about any other type of meat you could want.
ATMOSPHERE: The vibe here is fun and enjoyable. The pickle bar is a unique twist. They have many different varieties of pickled delights, and it's help yourself. However, perhaps the one of the most fun experiences is the way they let you know your order is ready. After you pay, you're given a card that has a celebrity/movie star name on it. When your order is ready they call "your name" to alert you. On the day I visited I was Gaylord Focker!
DRINKS/TOPPINGS: They have COKE products, even Coke Zero...greatness! They have their own BBQ sauce, Chipotle ketchup, and many others. -
Review from Tara L.
I still find nothing remarkable about this joint. We tried it again, and I'd hoped that maybe with time their operation would mature some. The beef was still super boring. I had a bite of their hot dog and that was far more enjoyable than the burger. It's served on a poppyseed bun - not so much a fan - but the hot dog is definitely the best this joint has to offer. For two burgers, two orders of fries, two teas and one hot dog, our tab was over $30. That's just ridiculous - especially for a self-serve joint.
They were playing killer music, though!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I tried Twisted Root for the first time on Sunday. I arrive at 12:15 and had to wait about 5 minutes to order - no problem. Food came out in 10-15 minutes. By the time I Ieft at 1, the line was to the door with the hungry crowds anxious to satisfy their physical hunger after satisfying their spiritual hunger at church or on the golf course.
I ordered the Chipotle, Guac and cheddar burger with onion rings on it. It was delish but alas, not a spiritually sublime experience. I tasted the OR separately and they may be some of the best I've had and I would order them as a side. I also ordered the fries, which were good with the homeade Chipotle ketchup. I suffered from Chipotle overload between the burger and ketchup. I also tried the house BBQ sauce on the table, and it was smoky goodness. There was also a horseradish sauce on the table, not tried. You could order a regular burger here and sauce it up with the freebies on the table.
I enjoyed the watermelon sweet tea - different but refreshing.
After the construction is done on William D. Tate, I will be back. -

I think the hype is hurting Twisted Root.
Just forget about everything you think you know about it, let all those WAAAAY TOOO HIGH expectations about what you think Twisted Root is all about leave your mind, and try it for yourself.
This place is fun, as long as you can find a table!
The burgers are good, the sauces at the table are FANTASTIC. I thought about putting a bottle of the homemade ketchup in my purse before we left!!!
I am a fan of root beer and Twisted Root makes their own and puts it in the soda fountain for you to refill when ya want.
I was really happy to see all the eco friendly plastic and paper products used at Twisted Root. Way to go green!!!
The biggest negative... my fries were cold-ish and kinda soggy. That made me sad. The line we had to wait in was sooo long, I don't know who they weren't making fresh batches of fries or why our orders were cold and soggy. But, to be honest, I ate them anyway- just to have a reason to keep eating the homemade ketchup! -

The Roanoke location is S packed busy always, because there aren't many options in Roanoke, but they are growing. The food for this place are very pricey. They are not bad, do not get me wrong they have good burgers. The crowd, and the price make this a place I don't like to visit. I do like the pickle jars! They are free so loot them lol

Decent burger joint however the burgers at this location are as Simon Cowell puts it "forgettable". The last time I went I got the Spicygoat burger which is topped with goat cheese, chipotle sauce, and bacon...sounds yummy right however the burger patty was not seasoned very well and there was just something missing. I don't know if it is just me but I feel the burgers at the original Twisted Root in Deep Ellum are much better. On the plus side, the atmosphere is fun and I do like their Root Beer.

Let's start out by saying don't have Huge expectations when choosing Twisted Root. The burgers here are good, really good, but nothing that would make your socks roll up and down. I had the blue cheese/jalapeno burger and side of fries. Burger was juicy and well cooked, bun was nicely toasted and the blue cheese/ jalapeno combo was different, but it was just good. It didn't leave me longing for more after I had finished. My girlfriend had a plain ol' burger, no cheese, no toppings. And while it was a tasty burger, it wasn't anything fabulous. The fires, well, you can only do so much to frozen fries with season salts. I will have to tip my hat to the root beer. They make their own here and I tried both the original and the vanilla and I was very satisfied with both varieties.
I did not dislike this place at all. We were there on a Sunday afternoon about 4:30 and the place was quiet. I liked the atmosphere, I liked the burgers and if I am ever in Roanoke and I am craving a burger this will be where I head. But I am definitely not going to head out of my way to try a slightly better than average burger. -

Getting cheap and going downhill. This place was incredible 1 year ago, but from their fries to their burgers, the scrimping is obvious and disappointing. For the prices, I'm just not motivated to go here anymore.

I ordered several burgers at many different restaurants while I was in North Texas and this place finally fulfilled my desire for a good, juicy burger. I went with the venison-bison burger with swiss cheese, mushrooms and onions. I added the chipotle and mustard sauces at the table. This burger tasted like a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It was amazing. Fries were also good!
It's disappointing that I didn't try Twisted Root's burgers earlier on my trip or I would have returned, but I made this discovery on my second to last day. -

As far as burger places go, this one should be on the short list. Burgers are solid. If you get the fried dill pickles, be prepared for a little kick. It was surprising at first, and then the burn settled in. Sweet potato chips were a nice change from the norm.
We had to grab a shake to see what that was about. Remember the scene in Pulp Fiction where he wants to see what a $5 shake tastes like? Well, our take was pretty, pretty darn good much like Vincent responded.
Don't forget to give their root beer a try too. That is a highlight of going there. -

I moved out this way a couple years ago and the fact they put in a newer restaurant near me is great. (Right beside the always comforting and awesome Babe's.)
Overall - I like Twisted Root. They make some pretty darn good burgers. For example, the Western is an awesome idea for a burger and one of my favorites I've ever had.
Not only are the burger choices/toppings great, I don't know if this is true, but the texture of the Twisted Root patties is amazing. It seems to be a very pleasantly chunky sort of grind - very cool. I have no idea if this is based in fact or if I'm crazy.
The following two big problems very nearly made this place 3 stars instead of 4.
The first problem is the fact that the burgers are habitually badly overcooked. Like badly overcooked. Your doneness preference is not prompted for by the cashier (which is normally fine at most restaurants and you'll get a juicy medium) but they are cooked by default at least "medium well" if not "well." Which I might as well chew on some gravel and save myself 10 bucks. But even if you specify mediumrare I rarely ever see any trace of pink in the meat. Make sure to order it med rare to have a chance at eating the burger properly.
So now we have our oft-overcooked burger. The other downside is the price - it's definitely a good burger, but I'm usually not too keen on dropping 10+ bucks (and prompted to tip on the receipt by a cashier who calls YOU up to come get your food and drink) on a burger. And of course all sides are a la carte. So a burger and fries and even drinking water puts you at around 12 bucks for just one person.
Drinks:
I love the idea of home brewed root beer and their default "normal" one is pretty darn good. Be warned, however - the "featured" flavor (which changes monthly I believe) is always cloyingly sweet. Always avoid.
Specials:
I recently went and just for giggles I ordered the buffison burger and was completely disappointed. It was really expensive, came out totally sawdusty dry, had to pay extra for anything on it (I got cheese) and it came on some undocumented dark whole oat gross bun. (Unlike the normal bun every other burger comes on.) I really wanted to like this thing. Maybe 2 stars for it.
Side note:
I am by nature a tipper (spent my time as a waiter in my day) so 20-25% is a rule on my tickets when I eat at restaurants. But when your job involves pivoting on a foot to put my food from the line to the counter and calling my "fake name" on the loudspeaker, this doesn't mean you need a tip. When you bring my food and drink to the table and make sure my family's drinks stay filled? Absolutely. But this recent business of companies who prompt me for a tip on my receipt in order to guilt me to tip when I the customer have to do the work is a big no-no in my opinion. Especially when you're making normal hourly wages instead of the 2.15 standard waitstaff rate. -

The drive out here was pretty long, but it was well worth it... dare I say even more worth it than the glorious Babe's right next door? Yes... next time it will more than likely be a personal soul debate in my heart and stomach: Babe's or TRBC?!?!?! I know what I will do... I will combine both! A piece of fried chicken smothered in gravy and creamed corn in between 2 buffison patties:brilliant! These burgers rock. I really cannot think of anything wrong with them.
I usually find gaudily dressed burgers in run-of-the-mill combinations to be a prime example of things I dislike in the food world. Why is one 1/2 lb. patty with mushrooms and swiss on said "freshly toasted bun" better than any other? Well, Twisted Root's ordinary combinations do the burgers justice, for some "Twisted" reason... ho ho ho.
My guacamole, cheddar, BBQ sauce, and onion strings burger was delicious. Enough said. My mother's buffison (1/2 bison, 1/2 venison) burger was also delicious; it had guacamole, pepper jack, and plenty o' hatch chiles. This topping was so jammin'. The sloppy, slimy chiles and the creamy guac gave the lean meat some character. The really soft brown wheat/oat bread was great.
Another reason why I like this place so much: house-made junk. I hate mustard; I love their spicy horseradish mustard. I hate ketchup; I love their ancho ketchup. I sort of dislike BBQ sauce; well.. ok. that was one thing I did not fully find amazing. Oh, but I really absolutely hate pickles. Their atomic spicy pickles were alright!
So there really is not much to say about this quirky burger joint except that it is 100% radical. Oh, and they give out random celebrity names as your order pick-up name; that is very unique. This place is on the border of being a "cool and weird" burger joint, but it is not quite there; it is still just a very, very great one. -

Tried this place for the first time the other night. The atmosphere fit the product, in my opinion. Noisy, a little like a garage, but it's a burger joint, so that is what I expect. I ordered one of the specials, the Spicy Goat Burger (not goat meat, but goat cheese, which is a rare find in any restaurant). The burger was little dry, but had good flavor. The chipotle sauce was very spicy and smoky, almost a little too much so. Best part of my meal, though, was the hand mixed chocolate peanut butter shake, which was reason enough for me to back by itself. Prices were a little high, but they do have some things you can't get most other places, so I can forgive that. Recommended.

Dangit, really really wanted to like this place. Atmosphere and decor are 5 star for sure. But after 3 tries the burgers aren't worth coming back for. I'd visit Five Guys or similar every single time over this place.
But I guess the atmosphere comes at a cost - higher food prices. Doesn't make them taste any better knowing their a bit more than average (not too much more mind you).
The only really good thing is their homemade root beer. That's fun. -
Review from Euless Y.

I'm really mixed about this place. I'll go with the good first.
Amazing number of ways to customize you burger - even down to the meats. Fun atmosphere, including hearing the names called out (you don't give them your name when you place your order, they give you a name that could be anything from Joey Ramone to Joan Crawford). The music is loud but not so loud that you can't even have a conversation with the people at your table. The place is small but they don't jam the tables together to pack in more people so you can very comfortably move through the restaurant without having to constantly say "excuse me" to the seated diners you're bumping along the way. The line moves quickly and you don't have an unreasonably long wait for your food.
Now the bad - I only like my burgers rare to medium rare, and you get no choice here. Their menu states that they only do their burgers medium well. As if that wasn't bad enough, my burger was crispy on the edges, which I call well - there was no medium about it. My companion's buffison burger was also crispy and the meat tasted much like my beef. Everything needed seasoning - from the burger to all the sides (my companion ordered the "fried ride" which is a basket of green beans, sweet potato chips, pickles, and fries - and beware, it is HUGE so be prepared to share). Nothing was particularly flavorful, even with the addition of salt. For the money I paid for the burger, and for all I've heard about this "chef-owned" burger place, I expected to be wowed, and I wasn't. Incidentally, my companion barely touched his fried ride because it was so underwhelming. Then to top it all off, I got an amaretto milkshake and was a little dismayed to see the "milkshake" was just cheap soft-serve ice cream with some amaretto stirred in. It was nowhere near my money's worth at $7.50.
The long and the short of it is, if all my friends want to go, I'll tag along because the food is not BAD, but I won't suggest it as a place to go myself, because the food is not good enough for the price and distance. -

One of the best burgers I've ever had. Would have been 5 stars if it weren't for the long wait, having to track down napkins, and a both a salt and pepper shaker that actually had salt and pepper, and the constant stream of silly names being called over the loudspeaker. (When you're really hungry that stuff REALLY gets on your nerves.) But as far as burgers go: YUM!!!!

Twisted Root is one of the better hamburger joints "close" to the Denton area, however I have yet to decide whether or not it beats out RG Burger.
The atmosphere is extremely casual, you form a line to order, take a card with a random celebrity name written on it, grab your drinks, and return to the front when your celebrity's name is called. The celebrity names and the often-times humorous announcements are a nice change to the standard number system. They tend to keep the inside at a constant freezing temperature so we eat outside when the weather permits. They also use fully-compostable cups, straws, and utensils - the stuff somehow made from corn.
As far as their burgers go, I can only speak for the Buffalo Blue Cheese burger which is amazing. This is one of the greatest/simplest burger combo's I have had. I don't bother with the lettuce/onion/tomato, just straight buffalo sauce and a creamy blue cheese spread. The curly fries are average, but don't waste your time, go with the sweet potato chips. They also make their own sauces, the Ancho-Chipotle ketchup is great and their BBQ sauces aren't bad either. The spicy-sweet homemade pickles are in giant tubs on the counter so you minus whale try a few, pretty tasty. Haven't tried the home-brewed root beer yet, but the mac nut special was tempting.
If you haven't been to Roanoke, go! The downtown area has some impressive eateries including the original Babes, Cowboy Chow, Tortilla Flatts, and more. There are also a few shops including a bookstore/coffee shop and a candy shop. -

Not so much tonight. Fries were cold. Sweet potato chips were soggy. Burgers are usually super hot off the grill and amazing but tonight was a mediocre burger to go with the mediocre sides. Maybe a peanut butter shake will make it all better.

Review from Kristen K.
Fort Worth, TX
I was really excited to hear about Twisted Root opening in Roanoke for two reasons:
A) Roanoke was desperately in need of a boost and something new in town that wasn't a chain
2) Everyone said that Twisted Root was great!
Unfortunately, I can't say that I was impressed. The first time the husband and I attempted to go we were thwarted by a water main break and the place was closed down. Totally not their fault, but still a bummer.
So last night we made a second trip out and were happy to find the place wasn't packed. We both got cheeseburgers. Mine with a side of the curly fries and the hubs got a side of onion strings. We moseyed up to the soda fountain and the first of my disappointments was discovered. Their root beer is fountain? Why did I think it was going to be on tap, like a nice beer? Not only that, but I tried out their specialty root beer which was supposed to be Irish cream and there was nothing Irish about it. It was slightly creamier than the regular. Slightly.
We sat and waited for our meals. In the meantime some dorky high school aged kid came to our table and told us he was a magician that goes around to restaurants in the area and does some tricks. Wow kid, really? I'm here to eat a burger, not be entertained by card tricks. But I was polite and said no thanks.
The atmosphere? Cute. I mean it's nice and everything, but it seems like they are trying too hard with their schtick. Their notes about how they are, "Dun run out" of their Coke Zero (really??) or the other one on their tip jar for help with their "401k" plans. If there were adults working behind the counter then maybe, maybe it would have been funny, but it wasn't. It was a bunch of annoying teenagers, most of who shuffled around the place like they had nothing to do, or stood hovering and gossiping at the front. Classy, because nothing says unique burger joint like a bunch of useless teens screaming "Lt. Dangle YOUR ORDER IS READY" at the top of their lungs. Note: An amplifier amplifies sound, therefore you can speak normally and yes, the patrons will hear you. This was highly obnoxious the whole time we were there.
Our food was finally called and we dove in. The burger was definitely thick and juicy. So big that I couldn't even finish the whole thing. I used some of their horseradish Dijon, but can't say that I actually tasted anything spicy. Their BBQ sauce that I tried was tasty, but their ancho ketchup was amazing. I really liked that on my already seasoned fries. My husbands onion strings were good and my fries were OK. They weren't overly greasy, which was nice, but honestly? They tasted like something I could pick up at a fast food joint or even in the frozen section of the grocery store.
After all is said and done, I would like to come back and try one of their game burgers, but really, this place isn't anything special. Which is kind of a let down to say the least. However, I should have known that with three locations under their belt now, there weren't going to be any chefs in the kitchen in Roanoke cooking my burger. In fact, I could see myself it was some kid with an apron on. You can't be that different when you're all over the DFW area.Listed in: The Hamburglar Strikes Again

Huh--looks like I'm the first to review the new location. Funny: although I live about 6 blocks from the original Deep Ellum location, I only went there for the first time about a week or two ago.
Today I had the occasion to meet some old college friends for lunch in the Keller area and they suggested this place. I had no idea it was the third day of business for them.
First, I'm not docking them any stars due to the horrendous cluster-f condition (as of this writing) of Roanoke's Main Street. It has been completely ripped out and is being replaced so extremely heavy construction is going on everywhere. And this is literally across the street from the fabulous Babe's Chicken.
I ended up parking about a mile away because I didn't want to vulture-circle with the other lunch crowd drivers vying for a lucky parking spot. It was absolutely packed.
Once inside, I met my friends and got in a long, long, loooong line to order. This place is quaint and fun just like the DE location. They've tried to duplicate pretty much everything, it appears, including that awesome Watermelon Tea and Twisted Root Rootbeer. Both awesome here as well. Their chalkboard proclaimed "No Game Meats. Give us a break--its our first day" with "(3rd day, really) chalked in beneath it. That sucked, but I went with their Western burger with standard meat.
Again, I want to talk bad about this place for some reason, but the meat pattie is really, really, really good. If I were low-carbing it and doing it sans bun, it wouldn't be a problem here. The meat is the star of the show. To be honest, I couldn't really tell any difference between the buffalo meat and this, which I hear is a mixture of brisket, sirloin, etc., etc. Whatever the meat mixture, its good.
Love their fried onion straws. Especially like the fact they are considered a topping on several burgers. Gives it a good crunch along with the full onion disc and tomato you automatically get on the side.
It looks like they'll do fine. The line never dwindled the whole time we were eating. For now, try parking at the rear of their building. They have their own lot back there, but if you're approaching from the hated "East" like I was, you'll be hardpressed to find a way over there. Approaching from the West is more convenient. Parking in the series of white rock lots in downtown is like tiptoeing through a tarpit on a few random stones that have been dropped in there without getting any tar on you. Precarious.
Sorry no funny haha comments or disparaging remarks. I will say that as I was walking through the neighborhood after parking, I noticed there are no curbs in Roanoke and one house had proudly hoisted the Confederate-freaking-flag in their front yard. Nice touch 21st century. -
Review from Ryan B.
You've got to know a few things before you go: First, if you go on a weekend night, it may take :30 to get through the lines. Considering it is counter-service and they're only grilling burgers, they are glacierly slow (is that a word?).
There are two lines: The longer line is for the burger. There is also a second line for the bar. If you are a drinker, you should probably get a bucket or pitcher of margaritas while you wait in line. It is entirely possible to finish both while you wait. The buckets of 5 are $15 and the pitchers of margaritas are $15.
The margs were kinda sad. They had plenty of tequila in them and they tasted like margaritas, don't get me wrong. I just didn't care for the consistency. Maybe I'm low-brow, but I like my margs from a machine. Granted, I love 1) Patron, 2) lime juice, and 3) Gran Mariner, but when I want frozen, I go Idiocracy and I want Slurply-style goodness. Don't give me blender crap. Unfortunately, Twisted Root uses a pre-mixed tequila and sweet and sour rocks mix, throws in some shaved ice, and calls in "snowball style." It is ridiculous because the cash flow this place has, they can afford to buy a machine. Meh, totally disappointed.
The burgers are good *if* you get one that is totally dressed with cheese, onions, bacon, or whatever extra toppings you like. If you go dry, or go with just lettuce-tomato-onion, you will be underwhelmed. You'll get one skimpy romaine leaf, a slice of plain ol' white onion, and one tomato slice. The buns are forgettable, and the meat is all med-well done, so it really, really needs some help with extras. And always go for the sweet potato chips. I think they're dusted with brown sugar they are so sweet. -

Wow, word gets around fast. This place has not even been open a month and it's got five reviews. I was hoping I was going to be the first because jthe clientel didn't look like Internet users, let alone Yelpers!
This place is in old town Roanoke, right across the street from Babe's. So if the wait it too long at Babe's, then head over here for some COTTON CANDY (?!?) and snow-cone margaritas.
The original location was just written up as #15 in the Texas Monthly 50 Best Burgers (August 2009). The world has too many burger places (not counting all of the McD, Wendy's and BK's), but this place stands out in the area. Southlake has several different places (Kincaids, Fat Daddy's, Snuffers, Johnny B's) but this place is unique from them.
You stand in a big line and order your burger with a variety of toppings (they had 3 high-end cheeses, plus all of the usual suspects). Their sides are unusual - fried green beans (like TGIFriday's) - the french fries were curly and not that special.
They have a "kinda full bar" and a few beers in an ice tub. I opted for their Tap Root Beer at the soda fountain. They actually had two flavors of Root Beer (?!?), but I did not like the cararmel flavor as much as the normal one. They also had yummy watermelon-sweet iced.
There are lots of tabs and the place has plenty of atmosphere. If you've got some in from out of town, I would not hesitate to take them here for a casual meal. It's not cheap (we spent $50+ for four people with no alcohol), but the burgers were ever bit as good as what Texas Monthy rated them as.
Also, try the homemade spicy pickles! -

Good burgers, good people, and bunches of customizable menu items. Nice for a change of pace! Try the root beer, and great for kids!

Overrated and overpriced...but just a little bit.
People love this place. The line is usually out the door at night and of course everyone has heard the reputation of the DE location. Anyways another boys night went down burger style...this time at Twisted Root. They definitely have the biggest variety of meats compared to any other burger place. And they have the bomb ass root beer. And if you know me, you know I love me some root beer. They even make it in house. The burgers are big and the sides are plentiful (Think chili cheese fries). The atmosphere is pretty funky and fun so kids are definitely welcome.
DID I MENTION BOMB ASS ROOT BEER!?!?!Listed in: Two buns and a Meat Patty

Visited today, burgers were juicy and good for both my wife and I. Food is pretty good but I agree with others it's a bit overpriced and perhaps they can make a burger that's half as big to satisfy people or add burger fry combos? TRBC, you built a location outside the big D dont expect people here to have the same payroll and put up with the big D pricing with all the variety of places out there to satisfy burgers desire.
I ordered a cheddar burger, fries and a beer. I also asked for a water cup and was given what appears to be no bigger than 2oz. They lose a star for this. I hate places that want to force you to buy a coke etc. and have a nazi water cup policies. This is _not_ standard for other locations (unless they've changed recently but I've visited both richardson and deep ellum don't have this policy). I've seen smaller cups given (child size) but this cup is literally something like a sauce cup. I tend not to revisit for this reason alone. Yes I understand cups cost money and I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount for a water cup (~.25 cents) but to give me something completely not usable without 17 refills is outrageous. I'm not sure if they changed it at the Deep Ellum location or Richardson (I've been to both) but never had it happen before.
I was even more disappointed I just spent 17$ for a burger, beer and fries you give me a nazi water cup....The worst part was it was like 85-90 in the building. I'm also disappointed the website for TRBC has no management contact info besides a generic 'info@' email address, I'd love to tell management what I think about this new policy. I'll think twice before going back to this location again will revise comments if management decides to change the policy at this location. -

Made the trek to Roanoke to try out the place and see if the hype is worth it.
One thing to note, Oak street is under construction so it was kind of a bitch to get to Twisted Root and park. When we found a parking spot behind the restaurant I saw 2 of the cooks outside smoking. Also, I got confused because they apparently have a backdoor public entrance - but I chose to go in the main entrance.
I had no idea what to expect and quickly figured out that you walk up to the counter and place your order...there is no table service here.
We had the Fried Ride (Hand-Cut Sweet Potato Chips, Twisted French Fries, Fried Green Beans, Onion Rings with Chipotle Ranch, Quincy's Spicy Fried Pickles with ranch), Western Burger ( Pepperjack, Bacon, Jalepeño) and the green chilie, guac and pepperjack burger. We also had 2 drinks and the total was $27.82.
They don't have regular sweet tea, but their watermelon sweet tea is delicious!
We gathered our drinks and made our way outside to sit at a picnic table. It was way too freakin loud inside that restaurant ~ but it WAS Sunday at lunch time....so...meh.
The process they use to call out the names of the orders was funny at first but annoying very quickly. Granted, it DOES set them apart from other places...but sheesh...the women screaming into the microphone was at times funny and irritating at others. My name was HEIDI KLUM, which isn't someone I wanna think about when I'm about to pig out on burgers and fried goodness. LOL!
It seemed to take forever for our food to come out. BUT - again, it was super busy. The Fried Ride was awesome! The sweet potato chips were both sweet and salty..and cinnamon-y! The pickles and onion rings were OK. The curly fries tasted like the kind you get at Jack in the box...but the REAL GEM here is the fried green beans. OH EM GEE. you ***must*** try those!
The burgers were pretty standard. Buns were boring and not toasted, meat was adequate, toppings were as we ordered them. One thing you must know is that the burgers DO NOT come with fries or any side. It's JUST the burger.
All the employees were very nice. The location was clean and efficient on the inside. I might be back...but it'll be a while. Everyone should try it out at least once, though. :) -

It was good... I liked it.
I had the Chipolte burger. it had guacamole, chipolte bbq sauce, cheddar cheese and onion strings. Good spice.
My friend had a plain buffalo burger. He liked his too.
We went around 5:30 on a sunday.. no line for us, but soon there was a line. The wait wasnt too long for us.
We also got the rootbeer... I heard they make their own. It was really good. We tried the watermelon sweet tea... tastes just like it sounds, but I dont think I could drink a whole glass of that stuff.
Left full and happy. And now I will take a nap.
