It's not a particularly glamorous description but it's what I think of when I think of this place:
"Yummmm!"
Even the water at this place is delicious. Seriously.
I have to comment on the idiot who wrote : "Twist is no Bouchon, but the prices do seem like it!". I can only conclude that you've never eaten at Bouchon, or you simply don't know what you are talking about. Maybe both.
Now, I haven't been to Bouchon in the last few months, but it seems to me (if my memory is still working) that their meat entrees are generally in the high $20s to $35 range (and sandwiches are $15-$20) & anything with fois gras is $40. If you want to drive up to Yountville and pay 50% more, sure, go ahead. But don't say that Twist Bistro is charging Bouchon prices - they aren't.
Maybe I'm lucky, but I've never had anything bad at Twist Bistro, and I've eaten there a lot over the past 4-5 years. My only complaint is that I now know their menu by heart. I wish that they introduced new dishes more often, and/or increased the number of choices. I know it's hard to drop something that is a crowd pleaser. But 10 appetizers and 10 entrées just aren't enough to keep me coming back regularly - I've already eaten just about everything on the menu. Twice. I used to eat there at least once a quarter, so 4-6 times a year. Whenever I notice that they have something *new* that sounds good, I return. Whenever I recommend it to people, and it is their first time (which happened last Wed, as it turns out) they rave about it. The quality/price ratio (what you get for what you pay) is hard to beat.

I love the place. I've eaten here 5 or 6 times over the past 18 months, with different people.… Read more »
3.5 stars to be exact.
A very very Americanized French food restaurant but with pretty decent food and the price is not bad for what you get. Don't come here if you are looking for a fufu authentic/exotic French restaurant experience.
The prix fixe meal is a pretty good deal and the portion is pretty impressive (always good for a big eater like me). However, I have to admit nothing was super unique or super memorable during my experience (I can hardly remember what I ate). All I remember is that I left pretty satisfied because the food was delicious and the experience was nice overall. The place is clean with a contemporary look, and the staff was friendly & attentive.
Twist may not have any super "French" fancy stuffs, but hey, what it matters is that I left happy and felt that it was worth my bucks!
P.S. Make sure to check out their http://restaurant.com certificate before you come.
About 15 minutes ago, me and my chica jess just returned from an extremely disappointing night from Twist.
We had come here for Silicon Valley Restaurant week to enjoy the 35 dollar prix fixed menu. The night started out perfectly fine. We both ordered 2 different types of kir from the drink menu. And, as you all know, I add 1 star for the bread basket (which in this case was REALLY good bread)
Other than that, our waitress came out to greet us and we told her our choices.
Jess: Twist salad, Portobello Napolean, and the pineapple ravioli
Me: Egg Muerette, Alaskan halibut (which they didn't have) therefore i got Salmon, and chocolate mouse
The apps came out at a decent time, approx 15 minutes and it was great. Both of us enjoyed them.
But, as we waited for our entrees....and waited....and waited...and got bored...and waited...45 minutes later, people who came after us, came and went.
It was getting frustrating and on top of that, the waitress didn't come out to say ANYTHING about our order, or the fact that she acknowledged that we existed!!
After an hour had passed, she comes out and says, "hmm..your order is a mystery and we're conducting and investigation."
WTF..who says that?? you represent the restaurant and either we should get an apology or the fact that at least you are genuine about your response.
It got us even more tired and upset and after another 15 minutes, we threw in the towel. We called her over and told her we wanted our food to go. When, at this moment she decided to let it be known to roll her eyes at us and walk away. Umm...again, extremely unprofessional.
OH and btw, the restaurant is practically empty at this moment and it is already 9:15 (we were seated at 7:40).
Once we got our food to go, we left and our bill came out to be 100 dollars (ridiculous because we didn't even sit and enjoy A MEAL). The waitress didn't apologize and just gave us our food and left.
Honestly, the food probably would have been great, this is a rating based solely on the fact that our waitress was rude and there was no professional service from anyone around us. I have had better and will have had better. I will not come back here again.
I'll lose a little sleep on the amount I paid for this horrible night, but writing this review 15 minutes after we left is a good night cap.
Note: Waitress #8 (you never introduced yourself btw) find yourself a job that better suits your personality because you would have felt the same way we did waiting over an hour for your shitty excuses.
Nice place...Even the silverware is twisted(as in the name of this Bistro)....Twist offers all variations of food, Fusion of French and American. I ate the"Smoke Salmon Tartine"Which you also receive a nice sized salad as a side,(No ice berg lettace here, You receive the healthy mixed baby greens!). You have other side choices for no extra charge!), This "Tartine" is an open sandwich with cream cheese, Smoked Salmon, And grilled onions, tomatoe, And sprinkled with Capers.....This was absolutely Delicious, I have gone back for this several times, Topped with a Hot Cappiccino you are set till dinner!
2 Stars
I'm sorry....I really am, but this place didn't measure up.....
Came here for our 4 year anniversary after reading some of the reviews. It was a nice cozy restaurant, but the square glass walls (around the kitchen and in the front) looked outdated and tacky.
Service was good, and everyone was really friendly........here's the rest of the scoop:
Carrots (lightly flavored w/ maybe french dressing) - ok
Warm Bread - VERY GOOD.....but why is it being brought out in a paper bag? that's a waste of paper and not something i expect at restaurant where meals are 30-50 per person.
Chardonnay (Aiena) - not bad.....12/glass
Crab Avocado Salad - good presentation; ok taste
Onion Soup - good
Coquille St. Joques (scallops w/ side of rice) - ok, tasted a little fishy
Hang Steak w/ fries - ok
Chocolate Mousse - ok
Table - wobbly and annoying
Music - sounded like it belonged in an old looney toons cartoon
Water Glasses - looked old and should be donated or thrown out
Utensils - was that rust on the handles? it looked like it
accidentally running into my friend one evening, we decided to loiter in Campbell and grab dinner last minute.
I've heard so much about this place (working just a few blocks away) i'm amazed that i haven't been here till now.
we sat outside under the heat lamp, but we can hear the other tables' conversation. no worries, because we were 2 fabulous girls having a grand old time laughing out loud anyway. This place looks so casual, it's a bit surprising to see the prices they charge (this seems like you can wear cut off jeans over 80s lycra bike shorts and sit there without being out of place)
on to the food:
my friend had the "Hanging tender steak". I thought there was a typo on the menu since i've only heard of "Hanger steak" but hey what do i know. Her steak was decent (cooked to order), the fries were great, they are the thin-cut ones which are extra crispy.
I had the Lavender roasted duck which was ok. It was cooked 2 ways, duck roulade sort of slices of duck meat, as well as crispy duck confit type. nothing outstanding that sets this duck plate apart from all the other restaurant that serves this dish.
I also had a kir royale, which is champagne with creme de cassis. it was ok.
overall the food was good, but the price is what is making me think that this casual little bistro is a bit out of place. for the food, which was decent, but nothing innovative (nothing that makes me think, I MUST bring my out of town friends to eat here), and the price, I think this is a solid 3-star choice if you're in the area and looking for decent food
I went here on a first date, and let's just say, the date went well.
We went on a Thursday around 8:30 and it wasn't too crowded so we were seated immediately. I ordered the kir with the peach schnapps which was fine but not amazing. The bread was typical (still really good but nothing out of this world).
I got the house salad which was lovely. It was a typical green salad with tomatoes and balsamic dressing, but on the side were tasty roasted veggies - eggplant, zucchini, squash etc.
My date tried the onion soup with seemed to be fine.
For our entrees, I ordered the lamb and my date ordered the duck. The lamb was wonderful. Juicy bits fell off the bone and the sauce was delicious.
The duck, I'm sorry to say, was really dry. It was seasoned well and had nice flavor was but just really really dry *shrug*
We ended up not getting dessert because the portions were good sized and we had no room after all the bread and salad etc.
I would go here again. There are a bunch of things on the menu that I would very much like to try.
This place is such a find in downtown Campbell. Quaint but delivers! We went for restaurant week and our 3 course meal for $35 was a steal of a deal!
Portions were generous! Dishes were well thought out yet they were classic French dishes and it was a dining experience where I learned some new things! Standouts were Eggs Meurette - where else can you get this dish?!!! It was absolutely delicious! Perfectly poached eggs with a rich red wine sauce, bacons, mushrooms onions... YUMMY! Halibut was fresh with a lemon beurre blanc with some balsamic for acidity. 3 quenelles of delicate yet rich chocolate mousse! Serving Tete de Moine on the cheese plate and a girolle was used to shave it.
I was intrigued and pleasantly surprised!
Twist has been our favorite restaurant and we come here pretty often. My wife and I just had a dinner date this evening. Since it's Silicon Valley Restaurant week, we tried $35 three-course meal.
For appetizers, my wife ordered Baked French Vegetarian Onion Soup and I ordered Eggs Meurette. Both are very good. Actually, their French Onion Soup is the best we have ever had.
For main course, my wife ordered Hanging Tender Steak & French Fries, their signature dish, which is always good. I ordered Steamed Wild Alaskan Halibut this time since I had ordered Hanging Tender Steak so many times and I'd like to try something new. It's heavenly good to combine halibut and lemon beurre blanc sauce.
For desert, both of us ordered Roasted pineapple ravioli with strawberry soup. It is quite good and not too sweet.
All in all, we had a very pleasant dining experience and a great time this evening.
Our small group of five enjoyed an excellent, five-course wine-pairing dinner last night.
The Pinder wines were quite drinkable and we all agreed we would enjoy having them again and learning more about the winery. Our favorite was their 2007 Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia grapes) which went very well with the Sea Bass fish course. We asked for a bottle of the Pinot for the table!
My personal favorite was the Beef Wellington paired with a bright and tasty Cabernet/Syrah blend.
Pinder's Viognier was refreshing served with the delicious, creamy smooth Lobster souffle!
Last we enjoyed a rich custard & berries with a late-harvest Zinfandel. I wish I had kept some of my Cabernet, but the Zin' was yummy, too.
Service, as always, was friendly and efficient. For a packed house, were were served at a perfect tempo; long enough to savor the flavors of each dish and wine, but not so long that we wondered where our next plate was!
We're looking forward to another wine-pairing dinner at our favorite French restaurant!

Have to chime in with an enthusiastic five thumbs up!
Four of us enjoyed dinner at Twist last night… Read more »
Went here for my friend's birthday dinner. The service was awesome and the food was delicious. I love the foie gras like no other. My fav entree was the grilled pork. We brought our own birthday cake, which they helped us cut up and make all fancy. We were seated in the back area for the large group, which I appreciated. I've been here once before and both of my experiences were very good.
The service and ambiance would give this food 5 stars. However, the food just wasn't that great. :( My friend told me the regular chef was out, so that may be the reason for the poor quality of food.
I went here on Saturday with hubby for another $200 date day. We had a $25 gift certificate from http://restaurant.com. We made reservations on http://opentable.com and were promptly seated as soon as we opened the door. Water and bread were both brought out with the menu, and the gentleman assisting us was super friendly. We were so excited, expecting a great meal.
Hubby ordered the foie gras salad, lamb chops, and a bottle of wine for us to share.
The foie gras was great. It was actually meaty and juicy, and as more like tender slices of duck than pate. However, the lamb was really tough. It took about 30+ minutes between the appetizer and entree. We ended up finishing up most of our wine before it even came out.
I would want to come back here to try some other things on the menu when the regular chef is back in. However, I'm in no rush, as there are so many other places to try in the general area.
With the $25 gift certificate, our meal came out to $55...for one appetizer, one entree, and a bottle of wine.
Ate dinner here last night. unique experience. What seemed to be a slow night turned crazy. The manager had sent home all of his wait staff and was there alone with one busser... serving almost the entire restaurant!!! there were at least 13 tables full.. and one man for the whole place.. cashier to host to bartender to waiter to everything else.. service was a little slow, but it was totally ok. This guy stayed calm and smiled the whole time. so kudos to him.
we were celebrating a birthday, so it was nice to eat, chat and take our time. Since the waiter was running around the whole night, he didn't have time to rush us out..
now let's talk food..
freebies (much appreciated) some carrots in dressing and the fresh baked bread .m mmmmm
appys: we had the pate and ham plate
entrees: i had the steak and fries... it was decent.. i suggest getting rare or medium rare.. i dont think it would taste good as med well or well done.
the gf had the seafood pasta.. this was not too bad either.. had lots of mussles and other things inside..
dessert: we had the crembrulee.. whoo ee.. good.. the rum bread is also good.. packs a lot of pizazz with it.. and the chocolate mousse was great.. just like it says. not too sweet..
overall a great experience.. i would definitely come back again..
In terms of food, Twist is no Bouchon, but the prices do seem like it!
This casual yet elegant bistro offers French cuisine with an American twist. Since they were out of the frog legs, we had escargot to start. It was cooked in a garlic and parsley butter, but the flavor wasn't really there. For our entrees, my bf got the beef oxtail and substituted mashed potatoes for the parpadelle pasta, and I got the Kobe pork loin with Roquefort cheese sauce and mashed potatoes. While both had really nice flavors, and the oxtail was very tender, neither dishes totally blew us away. At $24 each, we were expecting Bouchon quality.
The service here was wonderful though. Our server, Francesco, was super friendly and attentive. He gave us great recommendations on the food and wine pairings. He also brought us a delicious scoop of chocolate mousse for dessert, which was perfect. Really, with all the sweets I consume a day, a scoop of anything is all I should take in.
For the amount we spent, the food wasn't worth it. But the ambiance and service made for a lovely night out. It's just too bad we weren't in Yountville.
I was disappointed! I love French food but not theirs! Keep in mind that in that heat there is no A/C but a wiggly fan!
Beer wasn't cold:-(
Food is too expencive for this kind of OK food and service!
Not coming back:-(
The ambiance was pretty nice, but it was not very comfortable (low table, low-back chairs, etc.) - bistro I guess? It just seemed way overpriced then. The food was good but nothing fancy. The menu (although very French looking) often has "twists" with strange additions/flavors/ingredients, which I'm not sure improves on the original recipe IMHO...
Service was ok. I guess we were not lucky, but some of our requests got apparently "forgotten".
Too expensive for what it is.
We've enjoyed this location twice for dinners, and each time have had great French food, well prepared, with good wines chosen to accompany.
Dessert was delicious, and generous enough to where it topped the meal beautifully each time.
Service has always been friendly and prompt, without being overbearing.
Location is in downtown Campbell, which does provide for casual strolling after your meal.
2.5 stars to be nice!
I am completely convinced that I came here by chance on an off night. Three of my Yelp friends gave this place stellar 5 star reviews so I was really excited about trying this place tonight for dinner.
I made a reservation online and had it set for 7:15pm on a Friday night. When we arrived there was no line of people but the place was pretty packed. Unfortunately they didn't have our reservation in their system?! The gentleman at the front who hosted us was very cordial and nice and said he would see what he could do. They just had a party of 30 leave so I think they were a bit overwhelmed at that point.
Sadly the gentleman came back and said the only seating they had was at the bar. I was fine with that thinking it couldn't be that bad. I wish I had just waited for a table or came back another night because it was not comfortable at all to eat at the bar.
Of course a bar is going to be a cramped seating area...it's not meant for people to get comfy and stretch out to enjoy their meal...what was I thinking?! It also doesn't help that I am 5 foot tall and the bar is a lot higher then a table so it made eating not as comfortable. I felt like a little kid who needed a booster seat! The great thing though about the bar area was the very nice and pleasant woman behind the wine bar serving up drinks. She was a delight and took our order and asked us if we needed anything.
When you first sit down they serve you a hot loaf of bread with butter. Mmmm very very good! They also served us some carrot sticks that I think was drizzled with a mustard sauce...I am not sure. It was sort of random and they weren't very good.
The food came.....I ordered the Portobello Napoleon which had layers of mushrooms, ratatouille and couscous and basil tomato emulsion. It cost $19.95 which I felt was a little on the high price for a pretty small vegetarian dish. It was the perfect size for me at the time but I could see how someone who eats more would be disappointed with the amount they received.
My husband ordered the Hanging tender steak with French fries. The French fries are fantastic! Best part of the meal! The steak....ehhh...not so much. The cut was mediocre and because some parts were thicker then others, he had some pieces that were well done and others that were very rare. He had ordered the steak medium. The meat was tender but a disappointment.
Service here is okay too. The only real interaction we had was the nice lady behind the bar so we got lucky! I did notice one very disgruntled waiter working that night and he was making me kind of nervous. He looked like he was not having a good night and he thumped around the restaurant. His body language was really unprofessional and the sour look on his face resembled that of someone who just took a big bite of some dog $#*%. So glad he was not our waiter for the evening. Because I was sitting at the bar, he constantly bumped into the back of my chair so it made my dining experience not so pleasant.
If you come here for dinner, do not sit at the bar. You will be inundated with people coddling around you waiting for their table. I even had a woman with green finger nails practically sit on my lap as she sipped her wine waiting for table (plus she smelled bad!). I need room to eat people!!!!
I might be back for cheese and wine or coffee and dessert as their menu for that looked quite good. I doubt I will be back for dinner. This experience tonight was enough to really turn me off from this place. The only saving grace were the nice gentleman and woman working tonight who are probably the owners. They were both very pleasant and I appreciated the gentleman helping me get my jacket back on and hop off my chair from the bar area as we left.
I went to this restaurant last night with my family for my birthday. It was a wonderful experience. I was actually supposed to spend my 30th birthday in France, but since plans changed, I figured France would come to me!
All five of us loved our dishes. We had escargot, salad, onion soup, duck, pork, steak, and lamb. All superb. I wish that we could have tried the desserts, but we had birthday cake waiting at home.
I would definitely come back. This is a great restaurant for a date, and hopefully next time I can try the dessert!
OMG! This is a hidden jem on a quaint growing Downtown Campbell. You would pass it by without a second thought mixed between retail decorating store and Juice Shops and Starbucks. Twist has a defenite unique quality with their food. Although the store front is bland the food sets it apart. They are known for their Crepes and I can't tell you how great the Season Vegatable Crepe is the best Crepe I've ever had. But they serve more then that. Open for breakfast and fresh pastries and salads. This is a great Weekend morning stop while taking a bike ride. You can come with a few girlfriends to have quaint girl talk or stop in on your lunch break and read the Metro or Daily Campbell paper. This is eclectic and fresh. Very unique and refreshing. You can sit outside under all the umbrellas or have some privacy in their cozy tables inside. Must try
This place is fantastic as much as their cafe! Top notch service and quality all around, i recommend this to anyone walking the night in downtown campbell, you will absolutely not regret it what so ever! A+++ all around. I will be back for life!
Food was very good, but portions were too small. Service was good. Prices were high relative to value.
After a long work weekend in the area, I found myself at Twist on two separate occasions. The first visit was to Twist Cafe, which is open for lunch. I had a simple soup there and enjoyed a snack before it closed at 3 pm.
I subsequently returned to Campbell in the evening. Having read a newspaper article describing downtown Campbell as the "gem" of the Bay Area, I figured I'd walk around, have dinner, and check the place out. Despite working nearby, I had rarely been to downtown Campbell at night. *Note: that newspaper article stated downtown Campbell was a great night spot if your age does not begin with a 2.
In many ways, the article was right. Strolling through the area, I was greeted by music from an outdoor singer with his decent rendition of Jason Mrarz's "I'm Yours," more tunes from a quality guitarist a few blocks down, and finally, several works of art being painted by locals along the sidewalk. At the very least, Campbell had a quaint and pleasant feel and it's clear the City is trying to have a night life. That's more than can be said for downtown San Jose.
Twist Bistro was our chosen stop. I had seen the name many times on Yelp so knew that dinner would probably be solid. The place was packed solid at 7 pm and we were told the wait would be about 20 minutes.
Finding ourselves with time on our hands, we actually strolled to the Olive Bar. A very unique and pleasant experience and I recommend stopping by if you like Olive Oil. But back to Twist Bistro...
When we returned, we were seated promptly and quickly ordered. The menu is a straightforward one page affair and contains many classic, French and American dishes. Our order:
French Onion vegetarian soup - rich and brothy, their version was made without beef stock. Surprisingly, it was no less tasty and the onions were done to perfection. The amount of cheese was generous but not overwhelming.
Sea Scallops - the sauce was quite good. The scallops were a bit smaller than I had anticipated and were also slightly overcooked. Nonetheless, the sauce and the accompanying risotto topped off a solid dish.
Hanger steak with french fries - the french fries were great, although I guess it's hard to mess up french fries. The hanger steak was done perfectly as well, nicely medium rare as requested. The portion was a bit smaller than I had anticipated but I was full by the end.
We finished the night with a nice order of mango ginger souffle.
Twist Bistro was a nice dining experience as expected from the Yelp reviews. The food was tasty and well prepared. For me, the onion soup was a stand out whereas the entrees were more just solid dishes. Just fyi, most entrees are $22 and above, so Twist Bistro is not cheap. For two, with an appetizer each and one dessert, we spent about $50/person. While I enjoyed the quaint and nice feel of downtown Campbell, I thought the prices were slightly high for the area and more in line with overpriced downtown Palo Alto.
Twist Bistro (and Cafe) gladly take credit cards, including American Express.
I noticed that this place was filled with a much older age group of customers. Four of my friends, my boyfriend and I were probably the kiddies among all the tables.
The service...was slow. I didn't like how our waiter was not there when we needed him. He didn't check on us either during our meal to see if we needed other things.
I ordered the scallop with some white sauce and tasted some of my boyfriend's beef stew. Both dishes were pretty tasty. I liked my scallop dish more. Although it might look creamy from its color, but it didn't tasted like that at all. The scallop was well seared and not overcooked.
I think everyone liked the desserts they ordered. My boyfriend and I shared a crepe. I don't know what the sauce was, but it was oozing.
Delicious here. Recommended to me by a friend of mine Morgan. Easter Sunday, I took my mom to Campbell for Brunch. They had a Pre Fixe Meal which had some delicious choices. The salad was decorated nicely although not too flavorful. The second dish I had the Quiche and my mom had the French Brioche toast, both were just the plentiful served with fruit. Then for the main course I had the crepe with egg and black forest ham with guyere. It was delicious but I was really full. My mom had the Rib-eye and we shared a little, it was cooked perfectly complimented with some very good mashed potatoes and green beans.
For dessert, I had the Champagne fruit with raspberry sauce and my mom had the chocolate cake. The other courses were great, but I found dessert a bit lacking. In any case I give it 4+ stars.
Oh and I had the mimosa also ;) .
I've been going to Twist Cafe for 4 years now and when I saw they opened the Bistro, I was very excited to try it! You might ask, why 3 years later?! Well, we just got married so we used it as our celebration meal. Celebratory it was, from the excellent food, service, wine and dessert.
We share everything now since portions everywhere are too large for one person, and this is the perfect place to share! We ordered the Caeser salad without the shrimp (I'm already a huge fan of their dressing from the cafe) and there was big shavings of fresh parmesan on top of it. Super tasty.
Next we had the french onion soup (vegetarian) and it was, quite possibly, the BEST french onion soup I've ever had. Normally people use a beef broth which makes it way too rich in my estimation. This was lightly flavored with onions without being overwhelming and topped with toasts and gruyere chesse all nice and melty.
For our entree we decided on the pork loin and mashed potatoes, and it did not disappoint! The pork loin was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, sitting in this very mildly flavored sauce (I don't like my sauce to overpower my food...I want to taste each ingredient's influence on the final product). Paired with the fluffiest yet freshest mashed potatoes, with a stalk rosemary as garnish, it was hands down a good choice.
We finished off with a mango-ginger souffle...so worth the wait! chunks of ginger and mango in this fluffly creation that is neither too sweet or too fruity and just the perfect pairing of both fruits! MMMMMmmmmm mmmmmm. I would go back just for the souffle!
As for the wine, we started off with a very nice Rose, suggested by the waiter. A very healthy pour and perfectly chilled, this started our meal off right. We then had a Petite Syrah from California (a portion of the proceeds goes to SPCA) that was the lushest, fullest Petite Syrah I've ever had! We ended with a champagne that I regret not getting the name of...it continued to bubble in your mouth.
All in all, an absolutely stunning meal that pleased each of my senses. It doesn't hurt that Eileen and Dominic are very personable and attentive and know how to mix it up with their flavors and with fresh fresh ingredients. Yes it is pricey, $25 for an entree, but if you know that going in, there shouldn't be any issue. To me, the food is completely worth it. It is a place where you can just take your time savoring the experience.
So, the other nite, me and my lovely friend, Amanda G decided to do our gift exchange and do dinner on Tuesday.
After I asked, if not begged her to please let us do gifts BEFORE dinner, we decided on Twist for our post gift exchanging dinner :)
Twist Bistro is one of those awesome little downtown restaurants that when you step inside, you don't feel the outside world around you. Funny enough, I told Amanda, this is quite a romantic restaurant!
It's quiet and intimate and when we went last nite, it was really crowded for a Tuesday, pre Xmas Eve nite. "D" had sent over two glasses of complimentary Kir Royales and it was not only incredibly nice and generous of him, it was delicious and so needed after a long day!
The baguette of bread and little plate of carrots that they give you are so delicious! The bread was crusty on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. With a little spread of butter, melting on the warm bread...mmm....mmm!!!
Because I had red meat for lunch, I wanted to go somewhat lighter for dinner and I had decided on the Portobello Napoleon. It's a vegetarian dish for $19.95 and it's excellent! It was layered with mushrooms, couscous, vegetables and it was layered on basil tomato sauce. Amazing!!!
Amanda had the grilled pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and it was on top of a cream sauce. Her dish was about $21.95. I dipped some of my bread on her plate to try the sauce and it was amazing as well. She really enjoyed her dish, and the pork looked delicious :)
We were too full for dessert, although it sounded decadent and sinfully delicious as well!
All in all, I would TOTALLY come back here either for a romantic date with the hubby, or a fun girl date!
I go here on average 8-9 times a year. I have never had a bad experience. The pork chops are to DIE for. The staff has always been friendly, service has always been excellent. On the ONE rare occasion where there was a problem with something I ordered, the staff was beyond accommodating.
I would recommend this place to everyone I meet. I love being able to have amazing food and attentive service in a casual setting, and IMHO they've mastered it.
I am a foodie. http://www.starryeyedf... for the full review of Twist Bistro.
From one foodie to another, I would say... you will be disappointed. Don't expect full flavors, wonderful creations, orgasmic meals. Then again, I frequent Michelin-rated restaurants, so... when I came here I was looking for great food and was slightly disappointed.
If you are just a typical diner looking for something nicer than Sonoma Chicken Coop or Chili's, I'd say that this is definitely sufficient.
Appetizers are worth the try, though. I wanted to come here for the foie.
But... the service is pretty bad. French music, french waiter... bad service from french waiter (older gent). Did not want to explain dishes or elaborate or be passionate about it at all. I think this annoyed me the most.
I suggest reading my review on it at http://www.starryeyedf...
Still going back for the braised lamb and foie gras terrine- they were out that night. I must try all the foie in the Bay Area.

That was easily the BEST Boeuf Bourguignon I have EVER had!! Absolutely, positively sublime in every way... served with seasoned Pappardelle noodles. Wow. Not only was this simply a great BB.. it was easily one of my Top 5 best meals this year. Easily. Even discovered a great wine the other night with the meal -- this Chateaux Cazat (I'm pretty damn sure that was the name) was so velvet-y, and such a perfect blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon... even a great value. This was a darn good wine, and perfect choice for the BB.
I've been to this restaurant 3 times now... and I just called the owner to tell him to let me know the next time they serve the Bourguignon (it was a special the other night). He was pretty pleased with my call.
The service and overall ambiance of this restaurant (they have a nice patio area outside... and a faux fireplace inside) are really pleasing.
That was the good, memorable part of the other evening.
We love going to the Twist Bistro anytime we have something to celebrate or if we feel like having a nice dinner.
The food is excellent (their New Year's Eve dinner was amazing) and reasonably priced for French food. But most of all, the owners are great!
The menu changes every few months but some items seem to remain the same, including the steak&frites (with awesome Bearnaise) and the chocolate mousse - I highly recommend both. Their drinks selection includes great wines but you can also have Kir and even Floc there!
The cafe next door is also quite good for lunch/brunch.
Definitely check it out, you'll keep going back!
This place is yummy. Came with a group of 4 and we were greeted from the friendly staff. Our wait was about 10 minutes and we got a table right in the front by the front door. The bread and butter was so good that we kept asking for more, I'd say about 3-4 rolls. They also gave us a carrot appetizer that was in a special sauce. It was crunchy and flavorful. The muscle appetizer was scrumptious. I had pasta and my hubby had the filet mignon. My pasta was good, with freshly made pasta and the sauce was very flavorful. The filet my husband had wasn't that flavorful at all that he didn't really want to eat it at all. They have a corkage fee of $20 as well if you want to bring your own wine.
I do have to say that the service was excellent. The wait staff was extremely nice and friendly.
So all in all, i give it a 3.5 stars.
Just a great place for lunch or dinner. Run by a real French chef and his wife. Food is absolutely out of this world. For lunch, they have sandwiches, crepes and all types of salads. The roasted vegetable one is really good.
Pleasant atmosphere and great customer service.
This place remains in my top list of San Jose places.
If you are hungry and I do mean hungry, do not fill up on bread like I did because they serve HUGE portions. Started out with the escargots and I don't think I really ate them... more like inhaled them. I ate with a bunch of French men and being the lone American girl was a bit daunting but it was a great time. They assured me the meal was authentically French although I really didn't need their confirmation. ;)
My main course was the chicken cocotte. Since I ate an entire grocery aisle's worth of bread I was TOO FULL. The French guys I ate with made fun of me because I wanted to take it home in a doggy bag. You think asking is rude? Yeah rude in France, but we're not in France now are we. :)
I had the creme brulee trio for dessert. One was coffee (meh), chocolate (yummy) and the traditional creme brulee which was a freakin orgasm in my mouth. I am not lying, it is one of the best creme brulees, although I have just one beef with it: it didn't have enough burnt sugar on the top but the actual cream part was fantastic and I am salivating at this very moment just thinking about it. Who needs sex when there's Twist Bistro?
I've been here twice now, and I think it's better than your average restaurant. They give you fresh french bread, and it's delicious. I've tried some of the steaks here, and they are tender. The crab & avocado salad and fries are also yummy.
Only weird thing about this place is I went here tonight, and the man who seemed to be the manager or owner knew over half the people in the restaurant. The guests all seemed to know each other too, but were sitting at separate tables or at the bar. Maybe they are all regular locals?? It reminded me of a cult. HA.
Worth the price. Great food done in a casual French style. Nice wines at decent prices. Definitely worth a visit.
I like Twist a lot. They're ambitious with their menu, but they understand that French food is serious stuff, meaning that the sauce is critical to a dish and that textures and temperatures need to be exact. These guys execute really well.
I've eaten there 5 times now and have had some nice dishes, but to my mind, there's only one entree anyone should order: the steak frites. They use the onglet (or "hanger") cut and butterfly it (yeah, I asked...), then sear it perfectly on the outside while leaving the middle dark pink. Consistently great! The hollandaise and steak jus sauces that accompany it are completely different from each other, and both are great. Oh, and Twist knows how to make the kind of fries to go with this dish.
Nice wine list, as well - I've tried several of their by-the-glass specials and was always pleased. In particular, they had a rosé this summer that was excellent.
Downtown Campbell's transformation over the past few years is really appreciated. Twist is a great addition.
Minus 2 stars for serving foie gras.
Cute french place...would be a nice place for a romantic dinner. We went for a large birthday party and were seated in a small almost-private section at the back of the restaurant. I guess the noise-carried; we were pretty darn loud ;-)
+1 star for each person receiving a personal french baguette.
Seafood ravioli was soooooooo good! They were two gigantic pieces of ravioli filled with seafood inside.
The restaurant is directly across the street from the Cardiff Lounge, so it makes for a convenience place to dine if you have plans to go to Cardiff.
Adorable French restaurant in the up and coming trendy locale of downtown Campbell. The whole experience was just amazing. The servers are friendly, the food was Excellent, and the ambiance is casual (not in the jeans and t-shirt sense, more in the mood of the restaurant) and comfortable.
In the beginning of your experience, you're served carrots marinated in some sort of sauce that resembles mustard and french bread and butter. The appetizers and entrees we ordered were followed with endless complements. None of us complained about our food, not one!
Twist is definitely a place to check out if you want some yummy French cuisine.
