Tweed-New Haven Airport
3 reviews for Tweed-New Haven Airport
6 flights daily, all from the same airline, all to the same location (Philadelphia).
These flights are often canceled.
When you DO get on, there are only two gates. You have to check EVERYTHING, and i mean even a laptop bag, and the planes fit maybe 20 people, are powered by propellers, and have no service to speak of. But it's a short haul flight, so no biggie.
There are no people in this airport. There are no restaurants, no shops, not even a coffee stand. I came here last year, and it was under renovation. I could've literally gotten under the tarp and evaded security. This is NOT a good thing.
When Mayor DeStafano is finally voted out (PLEASE God let that be soon), I hope someone will fix this place up.
Even now that it's all "renovated"...it's passable as an airport...but still, it's in the little leagues compared to even Bradley.
I try really hard not to fly out of here. Hartford is only and hour away.

I was warned before I got there: "it's small."
I warn you now, and it will still be smaller than you think it will be.
One airline.
One check-in counter.
One door to TSA. Which, by the way, doesn't open for a 6:30pm flight until 6pm, so don't bother getting there early.
One flight per evening. Which (often) doesn't happen.
None of the locals fly out of there because flights are often cancelled. Supposedly because of weather in Philly, but who knows. I tried it twice and had a 50% fly rate. Which might be tolerable, except it's pretty poor form to call someone an hour before their flight to tell them it's cancelled when all flights that day have been cancelled.
Pros are that there's NO line, anywhere, and you'll get in and out of the place if things go well.
Cons are, you might be looking for housing that evening, if things don't.
Remember, Bradley is only 1 hr away.

Tweed Airport is pretty god awful. The only place they fly in and out of is Philly. Which is great and all, except it's only like a 3 and a half hour drive from here to Philly. So am I really gonna fly there?
Plus, to fly anywhere else out of Tweed you will spend an arm and a leg. For example, I need to go to Grand Rapids, MI for a friend's wedding in May. The cheapest flight out of Tweed is $419. The cheapest flight out of Bradley is $237. Even if you factor in gas and parking, it's still gonna be $100 cheaper for me to fly out of Hartford. I mean, what the hell happened here? People in New Haven really can't support reasonably priced air transportation? Kind of sad, really...
