This store has "Rinky" written all over it.  We just returned from Seattle
(reviews to follow soon) and I of course had to go to Archie McPhee's/
Although Tutti Frutti is much smaller than Archie McPhee's it is jammed packed with cool and kitschy stuff.  And my hubby actually enjoyed it too..

They have talking key chains (I got a Wizard of Oz for a friend), decorative band-aids (toast, cupcake, bacon and eggs, etc). lunch boxes, Angry Girl stuff (I got a cute tote bag), Jesus flashlights, toast shapers (you press the images of the Virgin Mary, Eiffel tower etc into the bread before you toast it), retro candy (Aaba Zaaba, necco wafers, button candy, etc), postcards, plush animals, toys for babies, Nerd glasses, Pez dispensers and much more.

If you are looking for goofy. irreverent,  and/or impractical gifts--this is the store for you!

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!
I used to think this was an amazing store with great finds until I had to return a purchase I had made. At the time of the purchase, the sales person had said I could return ANYTHING for store credit.
When I tried to do that, the store refused to give me any credit. This is a family owned store and Roberta, the Owner/Manager, did not even have the courtesy to speak with me on my return, she simply stayed upstairs yelling down at me. Just plain rude. When your customer has an issue, out of courtesy, you could at least speak with your customers face to face!
AGAIN, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!
Will never purchase anything from this store again.  Just go to Wishbone down the street for the same items AND better customer service.

Neat store! Has a lot of good gift items and is packed with different types of things from greeting cards to t-shirts to kid stuff. Nice store to go into with friends and talk about the unique/funny items. Great place to buy something for that person you never know what to get for them type of place.

A little cheaper than Wishbone and a little more fun stuff than Wishbone.  They have the best vintage lunchboxes and things you can stuff in them besides actually using them as things to carry your food in.

They have humerus cards and the fuzziest little stuffed animals.  The t-shirts are pretty fun and the books are hilarious.  But it's the baby one-sies that I adore for gift giving.

What else?  The old school candies are adorable and the "Angry-Little-Asian-Girls" bags are just as adorable.  They also have the most unique little knick-knacks.  Love it!

The best things you can find at Tutti Frutti are:
Gnomes
Fetus keychains
Adorably unique cards for every occasion
Gag gifts
Baby gifts
Everything and anything you could ever want and need. Did I mention Fetus Keychains?! They're awesome!

Kitsch is through the roof!!!

Definitely a cute store that my friends and I stumbled upon before heading over to Naan & Curry a few shops down.  This place had novelty toys, cards, and your basic gifting needs.  The store is tiny, but it's fun to take a peek.  Will give you nostalgia and a spark of giddiness if you recognize something from your childhood, if not something you wish you had during your childhood.

The store was about to close, but the owner of the place was patient and let us stay a little longer.  Felt bad we didn't take enough time to buy anything, but I will plan to drop by the next time I pass by.

OK. I admit it. I'm a Christmas card junkie. However, admitting that means that I have to also own up to the fact that I'm very bad at actually writing and sending Christmas cards. Nevertheless, when it's time to stock up on funny and creative cards (no matter that they will probably be left in the box for the next five years), I come to Tutti Frutti.

This is also the place I turn to for white elephant gifts, toys for kids (big and small), and what-the-hell-i've got-a-few-bucks-i-think-i-can-spend-on-silly-stuff presents for myself.

Tutti Frutti is the bomb!  Wishbone is nice, but there are more fun items at TF.  I'm there at least once a week looking for something to add to my cubicle, a card for birthdays, or just for fun.  The staff is nice, and I love that they use old school fruit bags to put your stuff in!
My only complaint is the size of the store, but this is SF and real estate is hard to come by!
BTW, don't ever call it "a more fun Wishbone," the employees seemed to be irritated when I said that to my coworker ha ha :)

If I ever had the chance to own my own store...I'd love to have a store like this one!

I was at Wishbone across the street and headed on over to TF since I've had it bookmarked forever...

They also have great cards...a huge selection for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings...you name it!

The store is small but it's jampacked with cute, kitschy things...from magnets to wallets to different kinds of wrapping paper...which I bought 2 sheets of...one was of pink and white flowers and the other was this green and pink paisley one.  One of the girls told me that it was her favorite and that she'd put it up as a poster...I myself was planning to cut them and frame them then hang em up as pictures..

Right as I was checking out, I saw this cute box  set of hello kitty pez dispensers...sigh...next time!

Any store that carries Fred products gets my vote. Lots of super cute whimsical stuff.  It's a tiny store so make sure you look above and below, as all the good stuff is hanging or hiding in the corners.

Review #199!

I *heart* Tutti Frutti. A great store to find the unique gift for that someone who nearly has everything. And you can nearly find something for anyone to your 80 year old grandma to your friend who just had a baby. I love, love, love their selection of cute tees.

I am obsessed (some might even insert the adjective creepily before obsessed) with baby clothes.

I love trying to fit my thumbs in baby Timberlands.

Balance baby duck gloves in my hand.

And any Sandra Bullock-Reese Witherspoon appreciating fan (and that is secretly 85 percent of the female population) can't deny that baby onseies are reaching critical cute levels.

Tutti Frutti won't dole up any baby Timberlands - but they got your "baby's back" when it comes to coo-worthy accesories and onesies.

Not only do they carry genius baby ware (ie: "Milk Junkie" hat)  but they have some great parenting books, pastel stuffed animals, Britney's Mr. Sunshine T-shirt, felt bags, and __________ (insert like a hundred other random things in here)

oh yeah and...
,

....Mr. T key-phrase key-rings.

A couple of hours of....

"Quit your jibber-jabber" and

"I Pity the Fool"

is the secret key to any successful relationship....

This is my favorite quirky shop in town.  There may be better ones, but I do not know them...

If I had more friends with a a sense of humor I would shop there every day.

Does it seam wrong to buy a condolence card with a nun in a tutu?

Need to find a gift? This place has the most randomest things ever! They have things that "normal" stores don't have. Their selection of cards are very creative. They lose a star because everytime I go in, I spend at least $20 on stuff I don't need or over spend because everything is so cute!

Best. Store. Ever.

If I won the Lottery, I definitely wouldn't go here, because I would absolutely spend every last penny.

The best thing about the store is that it's jampacked with all kinds of eccentric, absolutely necessary novelty things that would take you hours to find in normal stores.

They have all the cool movie or retro themey merchandise you could ever want a year before other stores do.  And they have a terrific selection of cards and stationery.  A card for any occasion!

While you're here, you can go check out Wishbone right up the street.  It's like Tutti Frutti's cute, freckled kid brother, always tagging along and never quite catching up.

Super fun novelty store.  My mentee spent her pocket change on two plastic mouths attached to candy.  One was a pair of giant lips with crooked teeth, and the other was a grill.  Like any kid, she had to unwrap her treasures right away and try them out, so she elicited lots of smiles from passersby.  That's typical of the kind of goofy, fun stuff this store has.

Speaking of goofy and fun, they were also selling bandages in the image of bacon and eggs!  One tin contains 7 bacon strips and 7 eggs for you to place over your little boo-boos!

They have a lot of great Halloween stuff out right now.  I bought a $2 jumping spider and my husband and I had hours of fun last night using the jumping spider to make our little fraidy-cat jump.

The employees are friendly folks.

Unfortunately, Amy L. is right about the wheelchair accessibility issue.  The store owner is in denial if she thinks the store is wheelchair-accessible.  I have never had the challenge of getting anyone in there in a wheelchair but my observation was that the store is so small and packed to the gills with merchandise that there is barely enough room for two walking people to pass each other in the narrow passageways, let alone a wheelchair.

This is another handy store to have in the neighborhood, for those times when it's politically correct to go to a birthday party for someone you barely know, who also happens to be a materialistic bitch who will judge you silently if you show up empty handed. Not that that's ever happened to me. But it's just convenient to know that you can procure a gift that says, "I hate you, but I'm masking it well with humor" for under $20. Because I'll be damned if I spend more than $20 on that ho.

Also, I like that it's actually kind of a toy store/little kid paradise, which is masked pretty well with kitsch. I think little kids should have access to fun, colorful things that teach them irony and sarcasm, which are very ladylike traits.

I *love* these kinds of stores - the ones that have whimsical and cheeky gifts and trinkets such as "Supermodel Meal in a Box" (a piece of gum on a plate) and funky handbags and t-shirts.  I really love their extensive selection of interesting cards, and their assortment of Pez dispensers and metal lunchboxes.  Total kitsch!

I could easily spend a crapload of money in here on these kinds of things, but luckily I'm a wee bit claustrophobic and had to step outside before I felt like the walls were closing in on me.

Can I give an extra star for the prom style class pic they put up of the TF Family?  Bwahaha.. so cute!

I love this store, even if it is a hallmark for the fall of western civ.

TOO MUCH CRAP TOO BUY.  It makes you think you need it.

Why i love zombies....

zombies (mindless consumption, massive consumerism in the form of impending, inevitable onslaught.. you cannot get away, they will eventually consume you.. society consuming itself)...

Tutti Frutti is helping us buy things we don't need, and love it!
THANKS!  (that isn't backhanded..seriously.)

Tutti Frutti is the best store on the 9th and Irving block.  When I was in my high school band we had a lyric in a song that went,"...I've got a little plastic Jesus to scare away the demons."  I really didn't have a little plastic Jesus then, but I now know that I can find one at Tutti Frutti.    Last week I went shopping for a birthday present for a friend of mine. Here's what I bought:

1. A bright red Wonder Woman T-shirt
2. A Wonder Woman business card case
3. A wallet that looks like a pile of bacon
4. Gummi candy that looks like bacon

And much much more.  I currently have my eye on the big  Elvis painting.  That will go great in my office.

I am waiting for Tutti Frutti and Wishbone to go to battle.  It hink TF will win. Hands down.  They've got more stuff to throw.

Quirky crowded gift store with tons of throwback candies (Smarties, Bazooka, and etc), cards, novelty t-shirts, cartoon lunch boxes, baby clothes and toys, and anything you can imagine not needing but wanting.  Staff is nice, and I never leave the place empty handed.

My one complaint is that it is so crowded in here, sometimes I get overwhelmed with the color and amount of stuff flashing before me.  I sort of feel like I have ADD at that point.

I LOVE COMING HERE!!!!

After passing restaurant after restaurant came cafe after cafe. Then I stumbled into this store. From the window they looked like they had some cute and random things. I went in and I felt like I was in a spencer-hallmark type of store.

My first purchase were tini little turtle magnets to put around my cubical. I think this was the first place I started noticing Bee House items. Definately a dope place to check out and see random things. I like coming to this store everytime I'm in this neighborhood exploring.

If you're a kid that never grew up...or you just need a cool gift that will make people chuckle...Tutti Frutti is the place for you!

The place is packed wall-to-wall with unique blast-from-the-past trinkets (ie Chia heads, Sea Monkeys, Mad Libs, etc...) and cute little gag gifts.  Really fun place where we found ourselves enticed by literally everything they had on the shelves.

Only warning before you go is that the space is small and usually packed to the brim with shoppers.  So if you're claustrophobic...better pop a xanax or something before checkin' it out.

I live right around the corner from this place and the two times I have gone in there the staff has followed me around watched my every move like the expect that I am going to steal something and been very obvious about it.

I understand theft in small businesses can be a big problem, but I don't appreciate being made to feel that  I am under suspicion the moment I walk into the store. Since this happened both times I have gone into the store I have since diverted all my business to Wishbone up the street which I feel has better a better selection of things and a much more courteous staff.

Need that last minute gift for that colleague or that friend that has pretty much everything? Do you have less than 10 minutes? Chances are you'll find something absolutely useless but so funny that you can do all of the above in five minutes flat.

Because everyone needs a bobblehead, a devil rubber ducky, a glow in the dark Jesus, an Angry Little (Asian) girl bag, or pez dispensers.

Once I was in there, a woman and I were admiring a Angry LIttle Girl bag, and I shouted DIBS! just so I can have it. That's the only time in my entire life that I invoked DIBS on something with someone who's not a close friend. And you know what? I'll do it again because I am now the proud owner of that bag. She promptly backed off. Dibs works, my friends. It works! And you'll need it here because there's so much that you and other strangers will love here.

This place is sooo cute. However, I wish they would expand the size of their store since its really small and there is soo much stuff! I picked up some really cool toys here though. I bought a voodoo tooth pick holder, wind up work out girls, etc...the prices can be a little pricy but all in all its worth it since alot of this stuff you probably wont be able to find anywhere else in the city. Theres also a large amount of greeting cards and t shirts too.
*UPDATE* I recently went back and bought the other 2 wind up work out girls I was surprised they were still in stock! Also picked up a cool Speed Racer Bobble head for my dad. Again, cool stuff Ive never seen anywhere else and at reasonable prices. Very helpful and friendly staff too =)

Tutti Frutti doesn't get 5 stars because I spend too much money there! Who can refuse the cute stuff there? Ok, I guess I don't have much self-restrain. I pay good money for stuff that I found really cute, bring them home, and....now what? I once paid over $100 for a kid's cow sofa. Thought I could sit on it while playing games on my PS2....Yeah, this store can do that to you.
Instead of going in the store (knowing I'll spend money on things that I have absolutely no use of), I sometimes behave and just stand outisde and look at the cool stuff hanging on the window and drool....

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!
I just wish they had longer hours.
I was FINALLY able to go and pick up an Angry Little Girls tote (It's totally me, it says F*@K!!! all over it). They've got the biggest selection of Angry Little Girls apparel (other than the website of course). Yes it's tiny, but it's a bigger selection compared to other stores i've seen that carry it.
Anyway, when I brought my tote up to the counter to pay, the nice helpful chica asked if I needed anything else and if everything went okay. I told her  "you know, I love this place. I just wish -"
and she said "that we were open later?"

SHE'S FREAKING PSYCHIC!! Hahahahaha

If you ever need a bobble-head Jesus, or a boxing Nun...a Homer Simpson bottle opener or a Napoleon Dynamite talking pin, this is the place to go!

My cubicle is a fun place, thanks to this store.  As I stare at my upside down magnetic green martian, or my handy dandy Scape Goat, I thank the Gods that be for a place where I can blow good money on pimping my cube out.

The perfect spot to shop for the hard to gift person, or that really tongue in cheek card you've been looking for.  The space is super small and cramped, so not for the claustrophobic!

This place is packed to the roof with random ass things that you never knew you wanted or needed until you saw it on the shelf staring down at you, taunting you not to buy it, knowing that you'll regret it if you don't and that you'll just come back tomorrow but that you'll spend all night worrying that some other undeserving bitch will buy it before you can get back and snatch it out of their grubby little hands.

You can run in here 10 minutes before you're supposed to show up at a birthday party at some ungodly expensive restaurant where you don't know a single person but the birthday girl and be guaranteed that you'll find the perfect gift and then everyone who sees her open it with her eyes popping wide in delight will think that you're awesome and desire to be your new best friend.  Seriously, it's that cool.

Am I on Haight or on Irving? This place seems like it would belong on Haight. If you're having a hard time shopping for someone and want to add a little humor to their gift this is the place to go. Mainly, goofy low brow comedy stuff you'd typically find on Haight. They have a great baby section and cards with 1950's themes that are some what naughty. Seriously, I could spend hours in the this store just going through random humorous books and toys.

Awile ago, I might have given this place four or maybe even five stars - but today only a 3. I love "stuff" - my cubicle is loaded with crap like Kong in a Thong, Domo-Kuns, pirates... you name it - so Tutti Frutti is my kind of place. But my most recent just irritated me, and I wanted to leave. I'm sick of trying to make my way through this cramped little space. If anyone is in there you usually have to back up and go all the way around the store again to get past - just ridiculous. They don't update the inventory to keep it "fresh" - last couple times I've been there (maybe in the last 6-8 months), nothing much new to look at.

But the WORST is the most recent time they stole our Jamba Juice from us and told us to put it on the counter like a small child. I HATE THAT CRAP!  I'm not five. What are you going to do, make everyone Purell their hands when they come in?  ARe  you kidding me?  It has a lid, and a straw - if I somehow manage to get Jamba on your plastic crap, I'll buy it. Get a grip!  Think of all the places that allow DOGS into stores, and you won't let a 30-something person drink a small Jamba.

Yeah, will be hard pressed to go back for a very long time.  Come to think of it.. I'm deducting another star.  I'd rather just order some Threadless t-shirts (way better an cheaper than they carry), and find my other trinkets at all the many online stores that sell much better stuff anyway... or at least Wishbone who didn't jack my Jamba.
