We've become regulars at Turnpike, which is one of the few independently-owned pizza shops in the neighborhood. I like that it's super casual, fairly quick, and they serve several decent microbrews on tap (including Manny's, one of my favorites). They also deliver to surrounding neighborhoods, and last I remember there was no charge for delivery. The pizza is consistently good, if you like thin-crust pizza (not my favorite, generally, but I like Turnpike's). My regular order is the Greenlake pizza, which features pesto, sundried tomatoes, and big chunks of artichoke hearts. I used to add chicken, but the chicken you got for the upcharge wasn't enough to make it worth it.

The pizza, while good, is not inexpensive. One large 18" pie (enough for 3-4 people, or 2 people with leftovers) runs around $22, which adds up when you add a beer or two and maybe another pie for variety's sake. Turnpike participates in several discount programs, including past Living Social and Groupon coupons and also Pirq specials, which are a big plus for student budgets...

The TV's are often tuned to soccer or football, making this place a great spot to catch a game with friends, and it's kid-friendly too. I recommend finishing the evening with fro-yo next door at Zoeyogurt; mention that you dined at Turnpike and you get 10% off fro-yo!

Well.. the pizzas are large.  I came in with a friend and for under $25 we got lunch and 2 sodas.  I guess that's good for Greenlake?  The pizza is not that amazing.  In fact, it's pretty meh.

It's a little confusing how the whole system works.... First you order at the cash register, you sit, they bring you the pizza, and then.. they bring you to go boxes... But then when you're done there's no indication that you bus yourself except for a compost and a recycle bin.... so where does the trash go?  Hmmm.  So I left it on the table.

In sum- mediocre pizza at over average prices.

Although if you go here and then go to Zoe Yogurt, you get 10% off at Zoe Yogurt.  (Don't know if it works in reverse ;))

I came here with a groupon last week and it was really tasty pizza!  We had cheese pizza and hawaiian pizza, both of which were delicious.  And we also started off with the cheezy bread appetizer which was really good as well.

It's New York style pizza.  Thin crust, extra greasy.  I think it is much better than Zeeks which is the other on-the-lake pizza alternative.  I don't think it is better than Crash Landing Pizza which is not far in Phinney Ridge.  Overall - we will probably return.

Now that I know they were doing groupons, our experience makes more sense.  We did not use a groupon, rather a coupon we got in the mail.

    1) this is definitely NOT new York style and anyone telling you otherwise has never actually had a ny pizza.
    2) contrary to reviews, this wasn't particularly greasy.  That would require lots of cheese, something that neither of our pizzas had much of.
    3) basically, you will be paying very high prices ($20+ per pie) for a big round piece of baked flatbread that is only slightly tastier than pillsbury pizza dough, with a thin layer of cheese and almost no toppings (they are few and far between, and are overwhelmed by the bread that is by far the dominant taste of the pizza).

This is not even close to the level of zeeks pizza.  I would honestly not pay $10 for one of these pies, let alone the premium prices they charge.

How can I not review my first Seattle dining experience on the day marking my first official year in this Pacific Coastal Northwestern Land?

It was a sunny, chilly October Friday afternoon when we finally reached the end of our 2,000+ mile journey. We took a moment to rest and then decided it was time for lunch. We ordered the BBQ Chicken just to be safe...and then we were hooked-oh yeah, we'll be here often *smiling at each other*

I don't think there's a pizza that i do not enjoy and that's a good thing considering i wasn't even sure i'd like some of the ingredients together, but Turnpike makes it work!

You were my first and i will always lurve you TP

We've been to Turnpike three times now, each time ordering the Hawaiian (my significant other's favorite type of pizza). They listened when I requested "light cheese", and staff have always been polite and helpful.

The pizza is good, but not "ohmygodyouhavetogohererightnow!" good.  A-OK.

They offer plenty of accessible tables & the bathroom access is easy.  I'll be back, I'm sure!

My fiance and I have been to this place twice so far, and we are definitely a fan! We both love their thin crust, and all the fresh veggies they put on their pizza. A lot of places around town add way too much cheese and not enough veggies, but Turnpike's pizza put more veggies and less cheese. "Husky Pie" pizza with mushrooms, roasted garlic and tomatoes is my absolutely favorite, and they have great salads too! We are definitely going back!

If you like thin-crust pizza like we do, I'd highly recommend this place :) Remember, Turnpike is NOT claiming to be "NY style" so don't complain if it is not thick crust pie style pizza!

The pizza here is fine, but there's nothing about it that would make me want to come again.  The crust is thin in the NY foldable type of way.  We had half a combo (pepperoni, sausage, olives, onions, and mushrooms) and half a Husky pie (tomatoes, garlic, mushrooms).  I didn't like the Husky pie much because it didn't have a tomato sauce base - I just assumed almost all the pizzas would have a tomato base, but learned only some of them do.

Service was fine for not requiring tip.  However, nothing distinguishing about Turnpike.  I prefer Veraci's and Zeek's.

It's a rough economy and everyone deserves a break, so I'm going to take it easy on this place.
The best thing I can say about it is that I love the location. The restaurant was clean and big.
Unfortunately but not their fault,... it was some sort of kids night and all the tables on the south end were taken by small children who were mostly kept in check by a few overseeing parents. That kept the noise level low but certainly not quiet. The wait staff were polite.
    Now comes the bad part.
I wanted just one slice of pizza but I was told that they don't serve single slices after 6pm, which I think is a terrible practice. I wasn't in the mood to get back in my car and drive a few minutes around the top of the lake, look for parking again and go into Zeek's pizza, which DOES serve single slices after 6pm. So instead of plunking down $10 for a small size pizza, I order a Greek salad for $6. I don't know what made me have expectations for this at a pizza place but since I saw three different styles of salads, I thought they might know what they were doing. I was told that the register was down and that they would take money from me when the salad was ready and delivered to my table.
Well, I know that there was an order or two in front of mine but it was only a salad,... how long could it take?
Apparently a while. I think I waited 15 or 20 minutes for the salad and when I got it... all there was on the plate were two types of lettuce, sliced black olives... the kind from California that have no taste to them at all and some feta cheese sprinkled on the top along with some salad dressing that I never would have found on any Greek salad in Greece. There were no tomatoes or cucumbers... staples of Greek salad. I was starving so I ate with abandon. I had no other choice.
They also brought me my bill and I gave them a 20 dollar bill for a $6 salad.
I finished eating the salad just in time to have my change brought to my table after flagging down the waiter... who had totally forgotten where he got that $20 bill from.
Just as I was putting the change in my wallet, I noticed that there should have been more money there, but there wasn't. I looked over the bill and noticed that on top of the salad, they had charged me an extra $3.50 for a soda. I didn't order a soda, I didn't drink a soda and there was no soda glass on my table. I had a very small water cup with water left over. The waiter never noticed the difference?
I don't know how they got the impression I had ordered a soda when at the time of ordering I said to the waiter/cashier... "I'll have just a salad!"... NOT: "I'll have the salad combo, or... I'll have a salad and a drink!"
When I told informed them of their error they refunded me $2.30... over a dollar short.
I didn't quibble... I took my money and left. Vowing to never return to this place... even though I had not taken a bite of their pizza.
If you think their pizza is worth another visit... that's fine but my experience was bad enough to say that I will not set foot in Turnpike Pizza ever again.

So this is a great place to head for pizza with the team after a game. It's got great service and some big screens if you're looking for some sports entertainment. I've been here twice with my soccer team and we always have a blast. Service is a little slow, but we were a big group not in a hurry, so I don't think that's necessarily true in general. Pizza tastes amazing and great options for vegetarians--woohoo!

I took my beautiful girlfriend and her two kids for dinner here the other night. It was early on a  weekday so sadly, we almost had the whole place to ourselves. The service was great.  The staff made great suggestions when helping us to order.  I loved the atmosphere. They were playing good music but not too loud and sitting by the window you will have a view of Greenlake.  Now here is the part where I may make some enemies.  Im not a huge fan of New York Style Pizza and prefer Deep Dish Chicago Style.  My beautiful girlfriend however is opposite and loves a good thin crust.  We ordered the meatball pizza which had great flavor and had just enough cheese.  It was very good pizza for being New York Style.  They had a nice selection of microbrews and you can order them in pitchers which should be a required law for every pizza place. Feel free to send me hate mail, for my disrespect of New York Style Pizza.  When I get in the mood for a thin crust ,I will return with my beautiful girlfriend.

Turnpike pizza is a  simple place to grab some pie, a pitcher of beer, have a conversation with your party and watch a little tube on the wall.

The pizza is good. I wouldnt call it hard core New York Pizza but I would call it pretty damn good pizza. Way better than Big Marios greasy mess. Have been to the Seattle hot spots like Serious pie and via tribunali, I much rather go spend my green at this joint where the environment is super chill.

Via tribunali claiming napoli style pizza dont realize its all about the dough. The dough quality at turn pike is a 10 fold better. The dough thin, with nice charred underneath, crispy crust with nice chew, good bounce and structural integrity without the hype of a wood buring oven.

My only suggestions to Turnpike would be put a little more cilantro on the BBQ chicken pizza. It would be a notch up if you made homemade croutons for your ceasar salad.

Other than that theBBQ  pizza was light and does not sit heavy in the stomach. Perfect amount of sauce, cheese and chicken bite ratios. Good attention to detail minus the cilantro. If you have a cilantro shortage, I have some growing, though it is growing like trees this year.

As well, perhaps a faster pace on the table clean-up. It was a bit messy and most of these Yelp people knock on the small things; expecting michelin star service at a neighborhood chill spot.

Other than that this place is quite friendly and casual.

After reading some of the other reviews, I would say to people with kids and dogs that are untame, stay home. DOnt put your pain on everyone else.

I have yet to visit their brick and mortar location, but I've gotten delivery from Turnpike twice now since they got listed on http://Eat24Hours.com.

Why did they catch my attention? Because they offer gluten-free pizzas, and that's pretty important to the person that I usually eat pizza with.

Both times I ordered one Green Lake (artichoke, sun dried tomatoes, garlic and pesto) and one Veggie Combo (mushrooms, onions, olives, bell peppers, tomato). We usually skip the cheese, so I think I just asked for pineapple on the Green Lake and extra veggies on the veggie.

The delivery has always been pretty quick and the delivery-men friendly and to the point.

The gluten-free crust is only available for 10.5" pizzas, but they're just $10 so we're able to get a couple of different pizzas for $20+tax+tip. We don't usually end up with any leftovers, so if we are super hungry I usually just make a simple salad while we wait.

So far I like the kind of strange Green Lake pizza and am not that big of a fan of the Veggie Combo. For some reason that one just tastes a bit weird to me. I'm not sure why exactly, but the Turnpike Gluten-Free Vegan pizzas kind of remind me of the raw pizza I once tried at Chaco Canyon. It's... strange but good. I like it.

I'm glad they now let me order through Eat24Hours because I prefer placing food orders online. :)

I wanted so desperately to give this place a FOUR star review, since there's so much I like about Turnpike: the nice location next to Geenlake, the small but clean dining area, the friendly (and still a bit green) staff. However, the proof is in the pizza and in this case the product was just fine...but not outstanding.

I ordered the Green Lake with vegan "cheese". I must admit this pie was pretty good, with a flat, crispy wheat-free (optional) crust that kept the slice from falling apart even without the glue of real mozzarella. I liked how the pesto was swirled around on top where you can really taste it. FYI: the wheat-free option gets you a 10" crust, the only one available on the menu, which is still more than I could eat at one sitting. My only comparison for this pie is the similar one at Razzi's on Greenwood, which IMHO is slightly better.

The regular 15" cheese pizza was by the estimation of the others in my party just so-so. The "normal" crust is also thin and at least one person thought that it wasn't robust or "bubbly" enough, giving it a "would not order again" review.

There's a limited beer and wine selection in addition to the sodas and sparkling waters, but nothing on the taps really appealed to the beer snob in me. However, I have to admit a nice cold glass of Stella on a hot day is a great way to wash down the pies. A couple more creative bottled beers would be a big improvement (you listening, Turnpike?) since this is a beer-loving town after all.

Not a thumbs down but not a ringing endorsement yet. It's unlikely this will become our go-to delivery joint while they're working out the kinks, but If I'm walking around the lake and craving a freaky faux cheese fix I'd definitely order from Turnpike again.

I am not the biggest pizza fan in general (I know I know unbelievable!) but this place is pretty good.  Two of us ordered the Greenlake, lots of veges with pesto, and it was quite good.  It wasn't too heavy with cheese or bread and the perfect amount of toppings.  I have always been a crust fan and theirs had good flavor but nothing too exciting.

The ambiance is that of your average pizza joint with simple tables and chairs and a flat screen to watch the sports event of the moment.  Perhaps the best thing going for this place is its location.  Right next to Greenlake, you get great people watching out of the wall of windows.  Also, after a walk around the lake it is the perfect place to grab pizza by the slice or sit and enjoy a whole one with friends.

I would definitely go back if I found myself in the area and was craving some pizza.

First time here after walking by many times and was very happy I finally stopped in. Ordered a full pizza to go as well as a slice and drink combo to sit and watch the second half of the Husky basketball game. They offered to keep my to go pizza on top of the pizza oven while I had my lunch and watched the game, which was a nice touch.

Turnpike offers New York style thin crust pizza with mostly standard toppings and a few northwest themed options. I just had a slice of pepperoni while I was there and it was very good. The thin crust was a great combination of crispy edges and softness with just the right amount of sauce, cheese and pepperoni on top.

While I was there it was fairly quiet with only a couple other people dining as well, but the atmosphere was still really good. The decor is a mix of New York pictures and artwork mixed in with Seattle sports. Everything looked very new and clean and the service was fast and friendly.

After reading good reviews, we had our first pizza delivered from this place - it arrived hot & on time (off to a great start!). It was good - the thin crust was flaky & not-too-greasy. I can't put my finger on it, but it was somehow unlike other pizza crusts... slightly denser? more like actual-pie dough...? But quite good, nonetheless.

I'm only withholding the 5th star because there was a thin burn ring on the bottom of the pie - we'll let it slide this time, and will order from them again, I'm sure.

I love turnpikes pizza - I'm vegan and love the option - however. Yesterday (nov 1st)  I got an email coupon. One was buy one large pizza get one free. Good for the entire month of November.

I called to order the pizzas and the guy who I spoke to told me that coupon had expired. Um, what!? It's November 2nd. He told me he could give me $3 off a second large pizza, as far as he knew the coupon I was referencing expired. He refused to honor the coupon. Again - WHAT?

I like this place for the vegan cheese option, but I'm going back to the cheeseless pizza at pagliacci.

    Customer service = Spectacular fail.

I revise my previous review. this has been the only bad experience I've had at Turnpike. It's been stellar ever since and I especially like when Rick is working, hes' super friendly on the phone. Turnpike is still my fav vegan pizza place. I order from there about once a week!

It pains me to say it, but I think the pizza here has slipped.  Tough love, Turnpike.  Still pretty good, better than most, but the crust is a little doughier than NY standards.  Actually, MUCH doughier, and the important oil to dough ratio was off.  The secret to great pizza is great dough, my friends.   The last couple of pizzas have not been...fabulous.  Sigh.

Please, Turnpike!   Give your dough some love so I can continue giving you some dough. :)

To be fair I don't really eat Pizza that often...this was my first piece of "real" pizza in about 3 years...

I had to try out the vegan pizza though, and Turnpike was recommended to me because they use Daiya "cheese".

For what it was it wasn't bad. If I were to eat pizza on a regular basis I wouldn't have a problem coming here, mainly because they DO offer vegan pizza. However it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, and I suppose I am a bit of a gourmet.

The salad was fast-foody...so all in all a little "meh" about the whole place. but yes, they have vegan pizza with melty daiya cheese.

    Not bad.

Very clean location, prime spot to look out at the lake, lots of open tables, etc.

Unfortunately the pizza was a little lackadaisical. By no means was it gross, just a little meh to my liking. We ordered the "Mojave" which had a blend of bell peppers, chicken, hot peppers, onion, oil base, and several other goodies. The vegetables were all tasty and fresh but the crust and dough were a little sub-par. A little too charred and not entirely satisfying.

Also the service wasn't anything to write home about considering we were one of the only folks in there.

All in all, not bad. I'll probably come back since its so close.

As far as location goes for me, this can't be beat.  However you're probably more interested about the pizza.

I'm not really sure what "style" of pizza this qualifies as, it just looks like a normal pizza to me.  It's still good, but not the best.  The crust isn't really the best as it can get kinda tough, but the ingredients were all pretty tasty.

Overall, i'd go back, at least for the convenience.

Good, sweet thin crust somewhere between cracker and thin NY style.  A bit light on the toppings but a nice place to watch out the window at Green Lake Park.

Turnpike Pizza is 3 blocks from my house and I've only been there once.  Need I say more?

Ok, I will, just in case you didn't get it.  The pizza is ok, but nothing remarkable.  I'm suspicious of the yelp reviews which makes me suspicious of the whole place.  They did a promotion when they opened that you got a really good coupon if you wrote a review, printed it out and brought it in.  If you ask me, that's borderline unethical.

I think this pizza is somewhere between okay and good. I like the sweet tomato sauce, and the thin chewy crust is fine by me. I haven't dined in, but it seems like a nice, open, clean, child-friendly place to eat. Plus there's free parking below.

The only reason I probably won't frequent the place is that it's too expensive. I'd rather get a 16" Zeeks pizza for the same price as their 18". Zeeks seems tastier and more satisfying.

The good: Gotta love their location which is right on the lake. The staff is incredibly nice and the atmosphere is chill.

The bad: They just don't seem to like to add toppings. You can ask for the works and even ask them to double it.... but it is still very sparse. One mushroom per slice (ok a tad more than that, but they do look lonely)

This place made me a feel like a kid again....because (seriously) it reminded me of the pizza I got in elementary school at lunch. The same sauce flavor, the same thin cheese layer, and the same squishy crust. It was the crust that really sealed it. Sorry guys, you need to work on your pizzas. I really do want to like you!

On the other hand, the ambiance was nice, looking out at Greenlake, sports on a big screen TV.

My friend had a Groupon, so we figured we would give Turnpike a try. I thought it was pretty good and so did she. We ordered a chicken pesto pizza which was tasty, and had a nice chewy and salty crust. We also had a spinach salad with roasted red peppers, which was literally some spinach leaves and a couple red peppers. The standout was the cheap beer though! From 2-6 you can get a pint for $2.13. For real? Inversion IPA for two bucks? Score!

I want to give this place four stars for the tasty pizza, but the last 3 times we've ordered it's been a disaster.

The first time was shortly after they opened. The pizza was squished into one end of the box, like it had been dropped. They brought us a fresh one, no charge, and we were happy campers. I'm willing to give any restaurant a break the first time.

The second time, also about a year ago, the driver got lost and it took him an hour to find our house. Great pizza, but it was freezing cold by the time it got to us. We warmed it up in the oven and it was ok.

We decided to wait awhile before trying them again, in the hopes that they'd improve things a bit. Tonight, we ordered at 6:20pm and when we hadn't received it by 7:50, I tried to call them. It went straight to voicemail and there was nothing on the message to indicate that it was Turnpike, let alone an actual business. When our our pizza finally arrived shortly after 8pm, it was lukewarm and the crust was burned on the bottom.

I was really hoping they'd get their act together, but it's sure not looking like that's going to happen anytime soon. Too bad.

Update: The owner responded directly and has offered to make it up to us. Based on this alone, I'm upping my rating to 3 stars, because customer service counts for a lot in my book. Thanks, Ric - We'll give you another try!

can't say a whole lot about the place - as there was no wow factor about anything here. i had the pepperoni and meatball slice and ceasar salad. the pricing was fair enough and the serving size was good. however, nothing special about the pizza. if its gonna be thin crust i enjoy a nice crispy crust - this one kind of just hung there lifeless. i don't eat pizza for my health so i prefer ample toppings and gotta use two fingers to pull the extra cheese off the pizza into my mouth.

all in all - okay pizza for an okay price.

Like quite a few other reviewers here, I'm a first and last timer.  I went in at 11:40am (they open at 11) to pick up a couple slices for lunch later. They had a guy working up front who didn't really seem to know what he was doing, which wasn't a problem until he picked up my slices with his bare hands after taking my payment. Obviously not acceptable but I was like, whatever, he only touched the crust, I just won't eat that. Then as I struggled to close the box he didn't put together correctly, he takes it back to fix it and picks up the whole slice with his bare hand and moves it in the box, slopping grease all over the outside and seriously grossing me out. Fingers crossed he washed his hands sometime this week.

    Cons:
    - Employees clearly haven't even taken a food handlers class
-2 slices for $8 bucks? That's more than Mad Pizza and they give you a drink
-Pizza mediocre at best. Crust tasted stale, pizza was super salty but oddly bland. (Had pepperoni and veggie)
