Three weeks in a row... Three different breakfast spots.
This week it was Turley's - a Boulder kind of place. Seems like they fancy themselves a bit healthier, organic option.
The breakfast menu was full of good choices. Ironically Theresa and both chose prett much the same thing. A #1 breakfast - two scrambled eggs, three turkey sausages, hashbrowns, and I had toast while Theresa choose the pumpkin muffin (which she wrapped up and took with her). Topped up with decaf coffee and water.
The service was good, friendly, and just the right degree of attentiveness. It did seem like it took a little while longer for our food to arrive than at some of the other restaurants. The hashbrowns weren't quite as crispy as I like them. AND! I'm definitely not a fan of turkey sausage patties - they were nasty - had real gamey aftertaste. I couldn't eat them - left two behind on my plate. The only other comment was that I asked for 'no butter' on my toast and it arrived with butter.
But all in all a pretty good place. The best part is just having breakfast with Theresa. Everything else is just secondary.
The total bill with tip was $25.

Yet another one in my category of "those Boulder" restaurants--bland and overpriced. Yes, the ingredients are fresh, but who cares. I can go buy the fresh food at Whole Foods next door and take it to my mother-in-law's house to prepare--if I want this little flavor. It's gonna be a whole lot cheaper with the service just as irritating.

Well, I had a big long dialogue written, and realized it was a too complex when this review really needs to be simple.
I have been going to this restaurant through it's many incarnations. I have been to it as the Good Earth on Pearl and 18th. Then it was The Harvest for many years in the same location. Then it moved to Arapahoe near Folsom and became Turley's. Now it is on Pearl and 28th and the prices went up particularly high with this move.
I can see that this restaurant has it's loyal fans, and of course all restaurants need those loyal fans in order to survive and thrive.
I was once a loyal fan myself.
But in my 10 -15 visits here, with family, friends, and dining solo...since the move...I have received inconsistent service, some great and some absolutely frustrating and downright inept. The food has also been of inconsistent quality ranging from acceptable to particularly horrible.
The Harvest was a good restaurant. To my knowledge the same owner is running this restaurant.
I really don't know what has gone wrong, but the prices are too high, the service is inconsistent, and the food is often just so-so. The combination of these factors has convinced me not to go back
after my most recent visit.

Turley's has great selection and serves breakfast late.
It is one of those places which is spacious, and generally caters to family gatherings of sorts.
The wait staff have always been exceptional, but the somewhat high prices lowers this place to its 4th star.
All around decent place to grab a bit....All-American affair.

In any other city, Turley's would be the best breakfast joint in the hood. Because of the competition in Boulder I'd put it in the top three. But if you want to get the quintessential Boulder experience, you need to eat breakfast at Turley's. They use natural, organic ingredients--most of the time from locally based merchants. The make a mean scramble, and give you huge, healthy platters of food. I've never had a bad breakfast here, and they serve a cup of chai that's as big as your freakin' head. No kidding.
I used to live a few blocks from their former location, on Arapahoe. It was a real treat to be able to roll out of bed and walk to Turley's for breakfast. And when my parents came out to visit it was a daily ritual. I haven't been there as often since they moved, but still make it there fairly regularly. They make a mean--if strong--house-brewed tea that I recommend you try.
And finally, what more can you say about Boulder except that a big chain like TGI Friday's couldn't make it in this location, closed up shop and left town, and a local yokel needed to upgrade to a bigger facility and took it over and have thrived in their new location. Long live Turley's.

Overpriced. Not good food at all. My husband ordered some tacos which were terrible, and I ordered a Buffalo burger. I asked the waitress if there was a big difference in taste between a normal burger and a buffalo burger, and she said there was no difference in taste at all! Well she was so wrong. The burger was soooo dry and tasted very weird. I would never go back here again. There are soo many better restaurants in boulder to try.

It's difficult to rate Turley's, mostly because I'm not fond of their lunch or dinner offerings. "Bland" seems to describe most of their selections, which are either American (e.g., burgers) or very Americanized versions of random cuisines (e.g., Mexican).
On the one hand I applaud them for using Coleman meat products and generally being low-sodium (sort of like the stuff you get from the Whole Foods deli), but herbs and spices are at a minimum as well. So yeah, when I end up here for dinner for some reason, I always opt for a burger because it's one I can easily customize how I want and not feel too disappointed (it's just a burger, after all). Not as good as Mountain Sun's burgers, but good enough.
Now, to the breakfast. It's probably my go-to spot for this meal, for one big reason: the pancakes, esp. blueberry. They simply can't get much better. And geez, is it difficult to find good pancakes! I never knew until I got hooked on Turley's and then started trying other places. Dushanbe, for example, has the most godawful pancakes ever (rubbery, sticky, flavorless messes). The Turley's scramble is fun, too, but there's too much cheese in it for me. Bland eggs benedict. In fact, to be honest, if it wasn't for the pancakes, I'm not sure I'd go to Turley's for breakfast at all (or certainly not nearly as often).
So, yeah...5 stars for the pancakes (and rarely having to wait for a table due to the large amount of indoor and outdoor seating, unlike most of the other breakfast options in Boulder). But maybe 2 stars for the rest of the food. A place I really wish I could like more, but in the end I like them philosophically more than gustatorily.

The food tastes better than it sounds. They may place a premium on making food healthy, but they sure don't sacrifice much on taste!

The original location for this restaurant used to be off of Arapahoe but because of growing number of return customers, they moved it to a larger location off of Pearl St. (I think the building used to be a restaurant chain, Rafferty's). While it may look very busy since its parking lot is usually full on weekend mornings, you should make every effot to eat here for breakfast. My wife and I ate here every weekend and miss this place terribly.
The food is excellent and well prepared!

I passed by this ex-TGIF many times, tossing it off as some wannabe chain. Turns out looks are decieving. They have a wide-ranging menu that gives the impression that someone just couldn't decide what they wanted. Decent food, lots of locally grown, locally made food, but it's hard to get over the TGIF ambiance that they didn't even try to hide.
