this place has like the best 7-11 slurpies in the WORLD!

except they use patron, and taste like margaritas and the girls that serve you smell different than the ones I'm used to and people here dress in clothing that only matches nothing on their person, but if there were an orgy to break out would soon find a match in the mass of people meat.

okay maybe they aren't slurpies...but they do feel goods on the tongues just the sames;-)

grab a drink or 2, pay your $10 and tip and then mosy on down to the parks across the street to watch the yesteryear kickballers, the inked sunswimmers, the fixey riding enthusiasts and families with the marinated meats of love.

such is a beautiful day in the neighborhood;-)

Giant styrofoam cups of sudsy beer!

p.s.  They advertise an Absinthe margarita.  I somehow doubt they use actual Absinthe.

this is a review of all of the other reviews.

everyone keeps giving this a place top ratings for the fact that they give you beer in a styrofoam to-go cup, like it's the best thing ever.
this infers that you don't actually spend time in the bar.
if you don't spend time in the bar, it must not be that great.
therefore, i recommend putting beer in a styrofoam cup yourself, which would be cheaper.

+ Lots of icy cold beer for cheapy cheap
- hipster trash
+ Big Buck Hunt Safari
- seriously, hipster trash
- music was really really weird. 2 songs would play... then silence for 20 minutes ... 2 more songs... silence.
- didn't find the staff to be so friendly, but it was crowded (trashy hipsters) and smelly (they don't use deodorant or wash that often) ...

I didn't get a "vibe" or a cool dive bar experience here at all... but I did get to play Buck Hunt  and drink beer ... so that was cool ...

Be warned those 32 oz margaritas have a way of sneaking up on you, it was too beautiful to sit inside so we got them to go and sat in the park, couldn't have been any better.

So if the Dram Shop is posh bar with food and good looking young professionals the Turkeys Nest is the exact opposite, which makes it my favorite bar in BK!

The Nest as we all fondly call it is known for the 24oz Foam Cup "BIG" Beers, after a few of these you will swear the The Nest is the nicest bar you have ever seen. The patrons run the gamut from locals who have been drinking there for 30 years to a wandering hipster who just rolled in for the first time. The Owner Paddy who is just a really good guy welcomes everyone in with a Big Beer and smile. They have Pool, Buck Hunter and Silver Bowling but this bar that is meant for drinking if nothing else. Also if you cant finish your beer, ask for the lid and straw and take it to go! Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh. and for any degenerates out there that would bet lines on spelling bees, they have Keno as well!

In the land of fabricated retro watering holes, The Turkeys Nest is King. The vintage light box Budweiser advertisement and nut dispenser that hasn't been refueled or probably consumed in over a decade shows the true age of this place. A whole lot of character drips from the walls of the nest, although that's probably not the only thing dripping from these walls. Great spot to drink a beer, watch a game, or down some shots after a brutal and messy divorce.

32 oz beers in white foam cups  - $3.50
Ice cold 40's of Cold 45 - $2.50
Buck Hunter Safari - Gold

I like it here.

Whether it's margaritas in Styrofoam cups or Miller High Life (the Champagne of beers, i am told), the Turkey's Nest is all class. The staff are friendly and inviting, as are the locals (who at first glance might come off as surly).

The decor is quaint, with the horse racing info looking like an enigmatic Keno board in the background. Lots of TVs around for various sporting events.

A Williamsburg mainstay and well worth the visit.

the adventure begins with a SAFARI BUCKHUNTER tucked away in the back.  If a bar is after my heart this is a sure shot way...

As the 32's of bud make their way down my gullet i find myself in better times in the backwoods of Vermont doing something similar in camo....

If I didn't work, or have rent to pay i would move in....

If you've recently been screwed over by a real estate agent and need a place to drown your sorrows before noon, head to the Turkey's Nest.  It'll cheer you right up.

Drinks are cheap, staff is friendly, daytime regulars are exactly the sort that you'd expect at a place like this, and they have Big Buck Safari.  The pre-Happy Hour crowd is just about as unhip as you can find on Bedford Ave.

Best of all:  the door to the women's bathroom is labeled "Turkettes."  That's straight-up class, I tell you.

Any place that serves jumbo margaritas in to go cups is automatically A-OK with me. The only time I've actually been here was to watch the men's basketball America East championship game... i think I just had Bud which i remember being very reasonably priced. Generally, I just have friends pick me up the frozen margaritas to get a buzz on our walk elsewhere.

I've lived in Greenpoint almost three years now and never dreamed of setting foot in this place. That all changed last night. And surprisingly, I didn't hate it.

I've avoided it because it always smells like old beer when I walk by, and the minimum age requirement looked to be about 50, and my boyfriend saw a guy literally thrown out of the bar by his pants and the scruff of his neck a few years ago. Classy place.

So my boyfriend and I headed over the other night to meet a friend and I pretty much stomped the whole way there. Yeah, it did feel kinda like real life Old School inside, a mix of old people and young people drinking out of styrofoam cups like its a frat bar. But did I mention they have a Safari Buck Hunter game in the back? And everyone seemed friendly and relaxed and kinda fun? When it was time to go, I was surprised to be the one to scrunch up my face and say, really, now? If it wasn't so hot and crowded in there I might have stayed for another plastic cup of beer while shooting elephants for the extra bonus points.

Nothing says spring is here like Margarita's in a to-go cup to take to McCarren park. Yep, I do love the Turkey's Nest.

It's true,  they aren't very environmentally conscious with the styrofoam cups.  Maybe I'll bring my own cup this year and ask them to fill it up. *Pats own back*

If you stay in you got your odd mix of trustfundarians and old geezers for entertainment.

The to-go cups are clutch. Other than the cockroaches and long lines for the nasty bathrooms, it's really what makes this place stand out as a truly unique dive bar. The drinks are cheap, as they should be at dives. I'm not a huge fan of the smell of the bar, but you get used to it, and it's not as bad by the front door. I've also seen people making out on the pool table in the middle of a crowd. Yes, ON it. I took pictures (yep, I'm an ass).

The bartenders are nice, but I'm in the Brooklyn Kickball league, and they love us (we bring in so much business). Before joining the league, I don't think they were very friendly to me (but not bad either, I just didn't seem to matter as much).

On the prowl to hipster-watch, a friend and I hit up the Turkey's Nest.

And realized we were at a sports bar.

Where were the beards and v-neck shirts? The drainpipe jeans and flourescent leggings? I've been deceived.

Whatever. It wasn't busy, the beers were not as expensive as theywould have been at a lot of other Williamsburg haunts, and I can roll back to my apartment blind drunk...if I need to. I didn't last night, but let's never say never.

This place smells like urine.  Very cheap beer is served in plastic cups.  The ladies' room is not clearly marked as such, so I almost walked in on my friend.

Friend orders a double vanilla stoli and soda.  Oldman bartender says, "save your money on the double -- I'll make it strong and get you where you want to be."

Word.

Oh, jeez. Six kids from Chicago, land of professional beer-swilling, were obviously pleased to land at the Turkey's Nest. The 32-oz cups were a pleasant surprise, but this was before the Chicago smoking ban and we eventually figured out that a lot of New York bars have some interesting schticks going on to get people inside. It was a great night and we still talk about it.

PS, thanks for the potato chips, bartenders.

This is my 2nd favorite dive in all of Brooklyn. $3 beers in 32oz styrofoam cups, a jukebox thats usually playing something awesome (I've heard everything from Pavement to Skynard), a great mix of both old pissed-off drunk and young cute but scruffy locals, a pool table, and a bartender who will chat you up about the fact that he's been going there for 40 years, then give you some free potato chips.

I once watched the bartender pour about 25 ounces of vodka into a styrofoam cup, top it off with a splash of soda, pop a to go lid on it and hand it to someone. The bartender then turned to me and said "best damn $10 drink money can buy!". I thought, ummm yeah - pretty much.

It's not sleek, it's not pretty, it's not expensive - it's everything I love in a good dive.

You really can't beat 32 ounce beers in a styrofoam cup for $3.50. For the best results, drink with a straw. We use to stop here before kickball games across the street. To-Go-Beer. Who woulda thunk it?

Plus this is one of this is one of the few places where you find a Hasidic Jew nursing a Stella beside a hipster sipping some Red Bull and vodka.

It's like Matisyahu vs. The Bravery.

I don't live in Williamsburg or Greenpoint, and don't fancy myself a "hipster",
but somehow we inevitably end up here whenever we're anywhere near the McCarren Park area.
This is an authentic neighborhood dive, without a trace of carefully cultivated irony. The bartenders are attentive, friendly & generous, and this is a perfect spot to waste a perfectly nice afternoon drinking cheap beers & watching a sporting event or a movie on the Turner Classics channel.
The evenings are mellow & lively, with a diverse crowd, and less labret piercings & ironic T-shirts than you'll find at the other Williamsburg bars.
And that's a good thing.

The Turkey's Nest is one of the last great dives, as others have mentioned. But sadly, it's less of a dive than it used to be because the kind of annoying people who think dives are like, soooooo cool and totally the funnest keep crashing the Nest. I guess it's a dive for the Fuji water set.

Anyway ... out of respect for the Nest, its inability to keep out such people, and the few funny characters who remain, I will write my review as though it's still 2002.

The Turkey's Nest is a great place for a strong, lukewarm cocktail. It's a great place to get in a high stakes game of pool (if you're a good player, that is. Otherwise, best shuffle off.) Good selection of tunes, great hours, friendly workers, basically everything I look for in a "dive" bar--is there any other kind worth visiting?

Hope to get to Brooklyn as often as possible and see what's hatchin' in the Nest.

The Turkey's Nest gets 4 stars for their incredibly cheap and undeniably huge beers.  This place was discovered one Sunday afternoon when my boyfriend and I were wandering around Williamsburg, trying to find a bar to watch the NFL games, griping to each other about why don't hipsters care about football?  You can imagine my surprise then when we wandered in and discovered not only 6 or so televisions, each playing a different game, but a group of Bengals fans were gathered in the back around the pool table!  Being from Cincinnati and being Bengals fan, I cannot tell you how happy this made me.

We braved the gritty floors and interior to come back every week to watch games, and consequently, get very, very drunk.  Matter of fact, I don't believe there was a single Sunday spent at the Turkey's Nest that didn't afterward involve copious amounts of fried foods being consumed and a nap being had to ward off my impending hangover.  It's just that kind of place.

Minus one star for the way some of the locals treat the female clientele - imagine relocating a gang of construction workers from a site to a bar, where they  make the same comments they do when you're walking down the street.  My advice is to grab some male friends to accompany you (at prices like this, I don't think you'd get much resistance) or get a to-go cup and chillax with your brew in the park.

If you're looking for the shmancy fance, keep walking... but! if you like a cheap beer with your local "expert drinker" look no further. They'll even give you a 32oz. Styrofoam cup to take along with you so when you pass out in neighboring McCarren park, your beer will keep its chill. That's just practical.

How do I keep ending up in dive bars no matter what I do? Well, it's ok because now I know where to go during football season! There are about 8 tvs at the Turkey's Nest with lots of good vantage points for viewing games with your bros. I was served a beer in a real glass, not sure if it's because they were having a slow night or if they could tell right away that I'm a big girl with lots of drinking from glass experience. Either way, the bartender and the hipster looking folks were friendly!
And Margaritas to go!

after a tasty lunch at dumont, i decided to check out the neighborhood. i like williamsburg. it's like my neighborhood in chicago. and if you took a giant helicopter and placed it next to my beloved chipp inn here in chicago, it would be like a long lost brother had returned.

the people in there were friendly and varied. the to-go thing is an interesting option, but it's different and gives the turkey's nest some local flavor.

but to escape a thunderstorm...having a $2 pbr and an interesting conversation on a weekday afternoon....can't get much better than that.

After a flop at Studio B on Banker and some street I can't remember, Turkey's Nest was a complete savior. With all the amenities you need in a bar: tv screens, a hip crowd, a bathroom with a hand dryer that says "Feel the Power," and an arcade game called Big Buck Safari where for $2.25 and a quarter you borrow from a strange bar-goer, you can shoot endangered species and check out hot safari babes both whilst trying to get a higher score than the dominating "EKJ." If that was a run-on sentence it's because there is a litany of things that makes this bar cool. Add on top of everything, $3 THIRTY-TWO oz. beers of your favorite American brew; BUDWEISER. But if you're feeling fruity enough, they even have popular margarita specials, too. Had a blast. -Matt

This non-biodegradable wasteful environmentally pure evil polystyrene fucking cup, which is only contributing to my guilt for a) going on a date the day after I consider monogamy b) possibly drinking non-veg distilled spirits (whatevs) c) not being as earthy as my conscious generally instructs me to contains all that is necessary to erase two months of uneasy relationships with Williamsburg and its men, and that's only when I'm halfway through (after the second half, here I am bearing all). Granted, I'm drinking water which feels barely flavored or frozen, hardly worth seven dollars...or, so I tell myself until my face is pressed into the sky, really, I swear I'm just licking the clouds with glossy-eyed glee, my knees firmly held in some semblance of reality by irritation from the park's uneven grass.
But what else could be expected? What reason is there to remain inside the confines of this dump unless you're taking a pee or getting lectured by the proprietor (he's greying and laying his girth over the edge of the bar that simply begs of stories waiting to be told)?
Oh thank you, Turkey's Nest, for letting me stretch my wings and spread the love outside of your cozy branches of absinthe temptations and culture-clash. You're honest and good and I like you.

This is the cheapest way to get drunk in the neighborhood besides staying at home.   I am pretty sure it never closes, I have been there at 3 in the morning and 11 in the morning and there seems to always be a solid mix of weirdos.    I feel like the big Styrofoam beer may be watered down a bit.   I am not a professional drinker which means 32oz of budweiser should put me over the edge, but not so much.

This place smells like someone's a**hole smoked a cigarette for 25 years nonstop inside of it. Only the most dreadfully annoying people seem to go here, or stand outside and waste oxygen. The styrofoam cups are disgusting...they're littered all over the streets and in the park. Obviously, the lowlife morons that frequent this place are too stupid to locate a trash bin to dispose of their trash. I hope this place gets shut down so I can have a parade. After they demolish the building, the block will still smell like a 90 year old leathery smoker.

I think a friend of a friend used to come here regularly to play pool and get in bar fights.  I went once or twice and enjoyed a huge styrofoam cup of beer.  Styrofoam cups aren't environmentally friendly but I guess you just have to condone it here, you know, sort of like how you love your grandmother despite how racist and alcoholic she is.
