Review from Eric F.

We came to Tulip in a very roundabout way, but we are SO glad that we did!
Our project was a challenging one -- oiled, wide planks over radiant heat. To be truthful, we had been planning to use another company who assured us that they could get the result we sought. Ultimately, however, they couldn't -- they prepared several sample boards and the color was never quite right.
In desperation, we started shopping around and we came to Avi - the owner - at Tulip. Wow, what a relief that was! We gave sample boards to several area shops to see who could get the right result. Avi got the worst board but produced the best result! His pricing was also very fair, but more important even that that was the confidence and precision with which he approached the project. Since there was some uncertainty about the finish work, he graciously arranged to do a "trial" in a small room of the house -- a good move, because some adjustments were needed before we went on to the rest of the house (where the results are perfect).
Besides the finish work, Avi was a great partner in weighing options for the actual installation. Wide plank over radiant is a tricky proposition and even though the wood was warranteed for that, there are a lot of variables to consider. Avi was great -- he consulted with the manufacturer of both the radiant system and the flooring and then gave us options along with his recommendation. Naturally we followed his advice and I'm glad we did.
The crews did the install in phases so as to coordinate with other work being done in the house. Each of them was led by a foreman who was polite, knowledgeable and committed to getting a great result. In the more public areas of the house, they even allowed me to help select which boards should go where.
It would have saved us a lot of time if we'd gone to Avi in the first place, but I"m glad that we eventually found our way to him and his team. Their work is beautiful and they *really* know their stuff. -

Pros: Just had my entire house hardwood floors refinished. Tulip gave me the best estimate out of three companies that I contacted. I talked to two friends who had used Tulip with a good experience.
They did a great job and the floors of my 1920 house look fabulous. The foreman and the workers work side by side and they work very hard. They had to replace a number of sections that had been blackened by cat urine and the new sections matched perfectly with rest of the floor.
The foreman was so sweet and customer service oriented. He put down as many sample stains as I needed in order to choose the perfect color.
Cons: I would have given 5 stars but I was disappointed that they did not refinish the "risers" on the stairs going upstairs. When I asked the foreman about it he said they should be painted which didn't make sense to me because they were natural wood, never painted before. -

Don't Believe The Hype.
I hired Tulip because of their reputation, then fired them after they screwed up the order delivery, the type of wood ordered, and the salesman made a joke about how much he was overcharging me. Three strikes, you're out.
There are plenty of good hardwood installers in the Bay Area. Get 35% off by hiring people who treat you and your money with respect. -

After a lot of consideration and getting more bids on my job I decided to give Tulip another chance and re-hired them to refinish my floors. This time they did an excellent job and spent a good 6 days in my house. I was amazed at how well my floors turned out and how much time they spent making them look just right. Although they weren't the cheapest I felt their price was reasonable, especially after the discount they gave for paying in cash. Plus, when your talking about finish work you really want someone to do it that feels like they are getting paid for they work they are doing. You don't want someone having to skimp to get the job done quick before the hours spent start dipping into their bottom line.

Haha! I win again!
The Hubs and I just bought a house, and had essentially decided to live with the scuffed hardwood floors for the time being and get the more practical repairs out of the way first.
Then I started to think about having to move all of our furniture *again* in a few months, and having to deal with the dust and hassle smell of having floors sanded and stained while we were trying to live there... It took me to unhappy places. So I freaked the Hubs out completely by suggesting that we push out our moving schedule and get the floors redone first. After I calmed him down, we compromised and decided to at least get quotes so we could make an informed decision about when we should do our floors.
We got a recommendation from a friend, I call them and next thing you know, Tulip sends a guy over, spends 10 minutes answering our questions, another 5-10 measuring (I drooled over his nifty laser measuring tool), and voila we had a quote in this handy folder with information on their policies and procedures. Very thorough!
The hubs is now so not freaked, and seeing the wisdom of my demanding ways. Tulip actually recommends that we shop around, but we're go with our gut folks, and we book them without talking to any other vendors.
To make a short and sweet story even shorter and sweeter: Tulip arrived exactly on time the first day, they always called exactly when they said they would, finished 3 whole days sooner than they originally told us they would (managed to complete two coats on the second day, and worked one weekend day for a small additional cost per our request), and their work is flawless. They warned us of possible residual dust after they finished their job, but we swear our house is cleaner than when they started.
The whole process took 19 days from when I first called, to when they handed our keys back to us. That's pretty much whiplash speed for home owner stuffs.
Thanks, Tulip, for showing the Hubs that the little woman knows what she's talking about. -

Tulip installed my new hardwood floor- white scraped oak, very unique.
Excellent customer service, Avi - the owner - and his team are personable and still very professional. They did an amazing job, within budget and mostly important within the timeframe I asked. They were very patient with me throughout the wood selection process and very flexible in working the final price as well.
The onsite crew was very respectful of the HOA rules (noise awareness, cleaning after themselves, security in the building), a very good experience! -

Tulip installed hardwood floors for our place as a part of a whole house remodel we just finished. If I could give them 10 stars I would. They were SPECTACULAR. (This coming from a self-admitted perfectionist.) Starting from their showroom which has incredible selection and shows the quality of the wood they carry to the professional installation with an incredible attention to detail,I was impressed and really, I am not that easy to impress. All of this with a price that was very reasonable. Everyone I worked with including Avi, Heidi and Jennifer were outstanding.
I almost resent the one or two bad reviews they have received ;-) They deserve 5 stars! I cannot recommend them highly enough. -

We lived with a yellowish brown hardwood floors for decades, having had floor people tell us that red oak floors CANNOT be refinished to a lighter color, and we very much wanted a whitewashed look! Luckily we persevered and found that Tulip can do the job.
Supervisor Ger came to our house, explained how it can be done, and how they would make samples of different finishes before we make a decision. He mixed the exact color we wanted and we had our living room done. It was beautiful, the workmen were courteous and fast. Six months later we decided to have the remainder of the house done as well. The work is A+, and we absolutely are thrilled with the results. Our furnishings and art works now sing with their new surroundings. It is also very easy to upkeep and we almost feel as though we are in a new home! -

Tulip Hardwood Floors recently finished my hardwood floors. They did over 1,000 square feet, which included a stairway. They were completely professional, addressing every single concern to my complete satisfaction.

I really love my floors. Now. They were underneath green shag carpet for about 30 years and when the carpet came off, we really thought they were beyond restoration. By luck I ended up speaking with these folks and not only did they do a fabulous job, they also did it for a price that did not break me. If your hardwood floors are in terrible shape, give Tulip a call - you will love the results when they are done!!!

We did what is called a 'minor remodel' but of course it was huge and major in our eyes, and lasted 5 months. It was too small to be taken by a design/build group, so I hired contractors separately, and dealt with them all on my own. So we had a general contractor, interior an exterior painters, an electrician, a plumber, and Tulip. Tulip was the most responsive, reliable, and professional of all the trades people we worked with. They treated us with utmost respect while we were displaced into one back room of our house over the holidays... We only got through that smiling because they were soooo friendly and accommodating. The floors are beautiful, and we'll keep doing business with and recommending them.

Tulip floors has a quality that you will be very happy with! I used them 16 years ago and just used them again. I am very happy with them and would recommend them highly. I had oak floors that needed resurfacing and staining and they made them turn out beautiful! Very Happy!

I may be a rather unusual customer, as I did my own floor installation, and hired Tulip to do the sanding and finishing work. I had to learn the hard way, and hired another _slightly_ less expensive local company whose work turned out to be a catastrophe. I lost sleep at night, devastated after having my hard work ruined. Tulip was able to undo the damage by sanding/replacing boards, and make things right. Their work quality is absolutely impeccable. I can't advise strongly enough: if you care about your floors, save yourself the heartache and go with the best guys in town.

I cannot recommend Tulip Floor Company highly enough. They refinished the oak floor in the first floor of our house 10 or 12 years ago and it still looks great. A few years later, when we decided to put hardwood upstairs in our bedroom, they installed about 300 sq. ft of blue gum and, just like the first floor, it still looks great. Not only that, they gave us a discount for being a repeat customer! So guess who we called a couple of years ago when it was time to refinish the maple floor in our rental unit? They are knowledgeable and, unlike a lot of trades people I have dealt with, completely reliable. They arrive when they say they're going to arrive and they're done exactly when they say they'll be done.

We just had Tulip put new hardwood floors in the upstairs of our house, everywhere but laundry and bathrooms.. We mainly dealt with Avi, the owner, and he was just great to work with. They had to do some extra prep work because there was a big bump in our living rm subfloor and our kitchen was sloped, and everything was well done. We had them put in solid hickory, and sand and stain and finish in place. When there was a minor issue or two, they were addressed quickly. We were on a very tight schedule and they were able to accommodate us in terms of scheduling. They are a pleasure to work with. The wood they got for us is beautiful, fantastic 5" wide long boards. While i thought that using Tulip would be more expensive, I was surprised that there pricing was very reasonable, and less than some of their direct competitors. I'd give 'em 6 stars if i could.

Tulip fixed and refinished my living/dining room floor - pieces had been gouged out of it and there were water marks. They were reasonably priced, lived within their budget and timeline, helped with the furniture moving, were neat, and the floors look great. They were able to match the finish with nearby pre-existing floors, and I can't tell the difference. I appreciated their work and highly recommend them.
