HATERS! This is why I signed up for yelp. I can't stand people bad talking a perfectly decent restaurant because of the decor or their tummy hurt or it's "bay area thai food". This is someone's business. Their income. Show some respect.

So Tuk Tuk. This is not a gourmet thai restaurant you want to bring your parents or your boss. No. But it is that special place you and your friend want to grab some quick, tasty, cheap, quality thai food before or after (open til 1am) you ransack North Beach. F those two thai restaurants on Grant. Sure the food is fine and the ambiance is great, but who wants to pay for all that when you got Tuk Tuk hookin you up straight up with some great Thai with a street view that will keep the tourists walking.

Bomb...from soup to spicy fried noodles to pad to curry.

Oh now nostalgic I get when I eat here.  It's basically a scaled down version of Tuk Tuk Thai that I was used to when I used to go to the one in Berkeley during my undergrad at Cal.

It's a pretty small place, it can probably only seat about 25-30 people max inside.  Not recommended for parties over 4.

The food is alright, eh it still reminds me that its just "bay area thai food" which all really tastes the same whenever I eat at a thai place in the bay area.  The menu is also pretty scaled down compared to the larger Berkeley location.

Also (-) points for not having coconut juice!  Every thai place has coconut juice.  They had this "Coconut palm juice" which I thought was the same thing, but its basically a SUPER sweet drink made from the palm tree which reminded me of drinking molasses.  Bleh.

Anyways, its not REALLY awesome but not REALLY BAD.

Okay so lemme start by saying. That the decor and everything here is on point. And wassup to the waitress who knows she's mad cute!

There is just plenty of some traditional thai dishes, curry ladened over rice, and everything on the menu is good to go. I had myself the curry duck and the pumpkin curry dish with a friend. With two thai ice teas. Now everything was great until about 4-5 hrs later, when their business model went through my intestinal system.

Now I know you think i'm lying or something, and this may also be TMI, but actually started to get the condition steatorrhea. Yeah that's right most likely because the joint is adding a olestra to help customers control the oil intestinally (new word?), that appears in their foods. Now I'm not sure of this exactly, but this is the first time i have ever experienced this, and I have eaten at many thai restaurants all over the damn place.

I dunno, I'm hella torn because in the place it was dope, but outside never been worse.

It's over a three for sure. Good-sized portions and the veggies weren't too crisp/hard or soft - just right. They aren't afraid to make it Thai spicy when I insist they don't hold back, which I like. Servers are friendly here and you get a nice view of the park and part of North Beach. Mango sticky rice is fair but the rice is a bit more clumpy than others around when I've had it but I could return as it's right off the 45, 41 and 30

We were wandering around looking for a place to eat near the bar we were hanging out at.

Luckily for us, we found Tuk Tuk Thai.

The restaurant is a bit small but the service was quick and personable. I ordered seafood spring rolls and the bf ordered crab fried rice. We took it to go since we wanted to catch the CalTrain back to the south bay.

Taking it to go, the food was still piping hot (or stayed cool like my spring rolls). Totally delicious and had me craving for more!

Next time, I'll try more of their dishes.

This place is awesome!  The food is reasonably priced, it's in a great location, it's open late, and it's authentic.
We went at 7:00PM on a Friday night and there was no waiting, I think a lot of people order take out.  I've been to Thailand and as far as I can tell this is authentic Thai food.
I ordered the Panang curry which was great, and my wife ordered some stir fried noodles which were delicious.  She had Thai iced tea and I had Thai iced coffee.  Total bill $20, and on top of that we found parking nearby.

The food is delicious! From fried rice to pad thai to noodle soups... everything was flavorful. And they heeded my request to not put MSG in my soup and it STILL tasted awesome.

The staff is really friendly and nice. They let us fuss with their TV until we found the 49ers game.

Great food and really reasonably priced. :)

I think i'd like to rename this place Drunk Drunk Thai in honor of the only times I've ever been in there. With long lines at Busters and Golden Boy, Thai it is! And is it ever good Thai..

Reasonably priced, delicious, and open late...

It is amazing!

I lived in Bangkok for 6 years, and have often been homesick for those $1.50 noodle soup we'd get from street stands. Tuk Tuk Thai brought one of my favorites, Suki Nam, to me and my ever-so-deprived palette. Though not $1.50 like back home the portions are HUGE. The soup was flavorful as usual with many more seafood toppings; clear noodle soaked up all the deliciousness.

My friend and I also shared a mixed seafood salad that had pretty big ceviche'd scallops (not your puny bay scallops) along with squid ringlets and shrimps. Spicy, acidic, everything home tastes like.

As the Thai people say, "not sour, not spicy, not delicious". The seafood salad definitely hit the spot.

And for three huge dishes? $30+tip. I will be going back there SO SOON.

Ordered take out.  They argued on the phone with me about the spelling of the street my friend lives on.  Apparently they decided I was wrong, and that I really meant Van Ness.  So our delivery took FOREVER.  Maybe an hour.  I had to call them twice to see where they were at.  I felt bad for the delivery guy because it was cold out, but that's also precisely why we ordered delivery.  My friend's house is not far from their restaurant, yet they didn't think the street existed!

We finally got our food to discover that they gave us the wrong kind of rice, and the 3 dishes we ordered seemed virtually the same.  We all like green beans, but come on!  The take out menu only mentioned green beans for 1 of the dishes.  Had we known there were green beans in everything we ordered, we would have ordered differently!  In any case, the food was decent if not monotonous.  We were hungry. The best thing was the cucumber side (1/4 cup?).

Tuk Tuk is sadly not what it used to be...

It seems like now it is not open as late...
and
The food is not as good...
and
You have to specifically ask for the tea while you wait...

I miss the old-style Tuk Tuk!

It was late and I wanted some food.  After going through a pile of menus, I decided on Tuk Tuk.  We called to place our order and was told 10-15 minutes.  We left in 10 minutes and walked leisurely down giving them extra time.   Well, not only was the food not ready - they didn't start on our order until I walked up to the counter!  It was only then they fished out our order and brought into the kitchen.  Shameful!

They weren't super busy, less than half full but they were definitely scrambling.

After waiting another 15-20 minutes, we got our order:
Tod Mun - $6.95 - 4 pieces of deep fried fish cake w/ Thai curry paste and chopped green bean served w/ sweet & sour cucumber sauce - fish cake too dense
Suki Heang - $7.95 - transparent noodle w/ stir fried shrimp, squid, chicken & egg w/ chefs spicy bean curd sauce - overcooked, mushy, no flavor
Thai iced tea - $1.95 - flavorful, best deal of the night

What's to love about this place? It's super cheap, you get a good sized portion (enough for 2 meals!), and its relatively fast. I've been there twice and ordered pad thai both times. It comes with egg, shrimp, tofu, bean sprouts...a great combination. Also, thai tea is amazing...they pour cream or half and half (something dairy!) on top and it blends into a delicious and refreshing drink.

On the contrary:

My main problem with the pad thai is that it is good at first, but then you realize how thick it is with oil and greasy. Pad Thai is supposed to be fresh and healthy, but their version sits in my stomach like a bad meatloaf. Major indigestion people. Maybe some of their other dishes aren't as greasy...otherwise I desperately need a good Thai restaurant!

I thought the service was fast. Liked the FREE hot tea  and how the waitress was constant in filling up our beverages. I ordered the Beef Soup, for it was the perfect weather for it.... however, the soup was so salty. Couldn't really eat it. So glad I had the tea. LOL!

My search for Thai food in North Beach has finally been successful.  Tuk Tuk does an excellent job and is pretty cheap.  The portions are good, and unlike the other Thai restaurants in the area they actually provide a decent amount of vegetables in their dishes.  I ordered a dish with eggplant, and it was well cooked, not soaked with grease like other places I've been to nearby.

The servers are nice and very attentive and the food comes out very quickly.

I also appreciated that they had the US Open playing on the tv the last time I went for a bite to eat.

First of all I love the name, reminds me of actually being in Thailand again, and second of all it's within stumbling distance from my apartment.   After leaving Union Street Fair early to pass out in my apartment I was beyond glad Tuk Tuk Thai was right there to feed my hangover.  I honestly only had enough energy to grab some good then collapse onto my couch.

The service has always, always, always been wonderful, the ladies out front are super friendly and always have a smile.

The food is good too, I've tried a few different dishes, the larb is yummy and their soups are good too.  I do wonder if their's crack in their food or something because I've been craving Thai food every day lately...pretty close to the kind of food I was eating when I was traveling in Thailand, so that's always a plus as well.

Tuk Tuk Sir??

Surprisingly good Thai food.

I split the standard Pad Thai Chicken and Sum Tum Salad.

The Pad Thai was very good, fresh, authentic.

The Sum Tum Salad was GREAT!!! It's a green papaya salad, very common in Thailand, and usually done poorly here in the states, none of the other Thai restaurants I have been to have made it well. Let be honest, most Thai dishes are pretty simple... tough to mess up. The salad was really good, and put this place as my #1 Thai restaurant in the city (so far)...

The portion was more than enough to spilt, we spent less than $16 for both of us ($20 w/tip)..

Man this place is sooooo good, I put myself on a strict once a week rationing.  Is there better Thai in the city?  Sure, I'd probably concede to that, but Tuk Tuk IS super delicious, AND they're 2 blocks from my apartment, they're open late, and they DELIVER (min order applies).  I ususally stop in and grab it to go, they serve you delicious hot tea while you wait (thumbs up) and they're super fast (thumbs way up).  Portions are average, and they have white, brown and (my favorite) sticky rice as choices with their curries.  Pretty extensive menu, too.  Small place, modern decor, clean, reasonable prices, so all in all, it's a great little neighborhood spot.

This isn't a bad place by any means. Its a little small, but pretty nice.  Its very clean.

I've been here a few times. Most recently, I came here for lunch with a friend.  Not too bad. The waiter was very quick. It was like diner-dash come to life.  He stood to the side with an eye on all the customers (about 3-5 tables) and was next to us right when we put down our menu's.  Freaky...but efficient!

I had the Gury Teaw Khi Mao, which is basically flat noodles with string beans, bell peppers and basil leaves.  It came fairly quickly, but it was burnt. I don't like burnt food.  It was also suppose to be spicy...which it was not. Sad...but still relatively tasty.  Just not what was expected.

My friend had the Pad Thai - they didn't ask if there's any specific meats with the Pad Thai...which was odd. It came out with tofu and shrimp.  Ha.  Good to know...

The portion sizes are pretty large.  The plate was probably about 8 inches in diameter and piled full of food.  For lunch, it looked like a dinner plate. But then again...my food was burnt! I have yet to get over this.

Overall, the food is decent.  A little pricey, but since you get such a large portion, its not too bad.  I made 2 meals out of it!  2 people, 2 entrees, 2 thai iced tea (a little sweet for me, but good for my friend) came out to about 20 bucks.  Not too bad.

Before when I came here to order food for my work, there was some issues. They don't pre-charge your credit card, so you NEED to pay on the same day.  I find this odd...in addition, they don't deliver.  They don't even offer a waiter at a slow time to help you with a huge order.  Sad.

Minus 2 stars for burnt food (obviously I can't get over this) and the take-out issues.

After a tiring day exploring San Francisco, I was craving for some good and reasonably priced Thai cuisine. At first I thought about going to King of Thai in North Beach but came here instead because my brother recommended it.

Needless to say, it was a good experience. It was a quaint little place and our server was attentive and friendly. I ordered a Thai Ice tea and the crab fried rice. My boyfriend ordered a special. It was some kind of satay chicken with fried rice. I thought my crab fried rice was a little on the dry side but overall I think it was because I neglected to put sauce on it. My boyfriend's dish was a lot better though. And the waitress saw that he ran out of sauce and offered him another serving of it.

The prices are more than fair especially for Thai food and they are open late!

Don't mistake the star rating.  Isn't the finest quality food in the entire city.  It doesn't need to be.  They excel at their corner of cuisine.

Girlfriend can't understand english too well.

After a long weekend, we decided to stay in and order out. Craving nothing in particular, we opted for Thai, and since my dear bf use to live near Tuk Tuk, therefore, holding some strange, sentimental value to this place, we ordered here.

We had a hard time getting our order across (chicken basil, tom yum kai, pad se-ew, eggrolls and mango sticky rice) and even told her we'll just come in and order but she insisted and finally placed it.

What amazed me was the food came extremely quick, even for delivery. Everything tasted pretty average and she even gave me those jalapenos in vinegar, which I specifically asked for.

Unfortunately they don't have Mango Sticky Rice!!!!

I have found my Heaven! This place was amazing - it offered everything I need in a good restaurant - Large portions, delicious entrees, extremely friendly service and hardly any wait time for food! A, Julia, N and I all stumbled down here after leaving our crew at the bar up the street to find dinner. This was about a block away from where we were so we decided to check it out. We were seated right away and ordered up our food. A and I picked the Seafood Salad, Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. In minutes, we had piping hot FRESH food sitting right in front of our faces. OH MY GOSH the food was to die for! Everything was on par and just too good to be true. There was actually flavor in every dish (see my review from another Thai restaurant I wrote earlier) and it just couldn't go wrong. Our servers kept smiling the whole time and to make sure we were happy with the food. I recommend everyone coming by to give this place a try - I would easily drive up from SJ again just to eat here!

Tuk Tuk Thai is a solid restaurant. Before I even get to the food, the service is fast, they are open EVERY DAY from 11-1am, they pick up the phone for take-out calls even before the open, and all the servers are really nice and attentive (water refill, fast check delivery).

All the entrees are about $7 and the big chef special plates are about $10. I just noticed that there is no menu posted, so I'll take a pic and put it up soon.

Tom Ka Kai soup- Really good! 7/10. Yummy but could be a little spicier. Way better than what you can buy at Whole Foods and the portion is good enough for two people to split easily. Two people + this soup = really cheap lunch.

Chicken fried rice (they call it something else)- 8/10. Also really huge portion good enough for two people and totally satisfying.

Ground beef and egg noodles (the name ends with sub) 6/10 Kind of greasy but not enough to make you stop eating. It uses the gravy sauce, which I'm not really into, but if you like that you'll probably enjoy it more than me.

Pad Thai- 5/10. Would be 4/10 but I got this to go, so I'll give an extra point. Totally bland, the noodles all stuck together and I think it made me sick. The tofu was fried well though. I won't order this again.

Overall, everything except the standard, Pad Thai, is really good and for the price, it is basically considered as close to fast food as you'll find in North Beach. Watch out for that $10 minimum credit card change though.

As a local, I highly recommend this place if you're in North Beach and in the mood for something other than Italian. I've been a few times and their yellow chicken curry is delicious! I've also heard wonderful things about the veg. version.
The price is right, the food is great and the staff is welcoming. The hours also make it great for those last minute "Let's go out tonight" dates.

Friendly and well priced, but not being clear on how you cook your food is always a deal breaker. I ordered the grilled (note the word grilled) chicken skewers for takeout, and after placing my order asked if I could use the bathroom. Walking through the kitchen to get there is when it happened - the chef was sticking my skewers into the fryer.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I asked what the heck was going on, and the guy told me they were lightly fried before going on the grill. Ah, absolutely not.

It's definitely worth mentioning that as soon as I asked them to remake it without frying they did, no questions asked, hence the second star, but seriously, where is "lightly fried" on the menu. For people like that avoid fried food like the plague, we deserve to know.

It's a quaint place but the food is really good! The workers and cooks are Thai - at least, they speak the language. When I first came in with my bf, we were amazed by the faux ostrich leather booths and the inspirational wall posters. It reminded us of a motivational speaker's office.

I digress, the food is great. I love the curry duck - order it!  Every thing is delish, so try your favorite Thai dish and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I like this place for many reasons:
- Clean enough for me to bring my white friends (seriously. they're wimpy)
- Reasonable prices.
- Good food. Faves include:
1)  Duck Noodle Soup. Not something that a white person would normally order (they would go for the ketchupy Pad Thai. Admit it. Typical). Fragrant soup. nice juicy bits of duck. Get the 'thick' noodle (it's not very thick; just the best type to go with that soup)
2) Pad Siew Ee. Wok-flavored. the best
3) Stuffed Fried Chicken Wings. Stuffed with bits of pork, glass noodles. YUMMY
4) Tom Yum Soup - with shrimp. Huge bowl. they might think about serving an individual size. they could prob make more money.
5) Green Papaya Salad.
6) Crab fried rice is good too; nice wok-flavor

They're open pretty much all-day through midnight. I love it!

We went to Tuk Tuk on a holiday Monday afternoon (memorial day) and the place wasn't so crowded which was nice. The Thai waitress was really nice to us, always with a smile on her face.

I thought their pineapple fried rice was pretty good with a huge portion, but my asian roommate thought it was shit. However, we both agreed that Tuk Tuk's orange curry with rice was beyond imagination. We'd totally go for it again.

The service time was also pretty fast. They also had a TV to prevent you from getting bored. The good thing was that they were really vegetarian-friendly, and they even gave us a buck off when we ordered the pineapple fried rice without the meat.

In fact, we liked this place so much, we're totally going to give it another shot!

One of those rare North Beach restaurants where you can eat for less than $10.  I go all the time because I live in the neighborhood, and when I want something other than Italian, Tuk Tuk is the perfect alternative.

Everything I've had is fantastic - my favorite being the BBQ chicken. Sometimes when I don't feel like walking the four blocks there (like if it's raining)  - they deliver !!  They always say it will take about 45 minutes but show up at my door in 10 minutes.

All the servers are very friendly, and the Thai tea they serve when you dine-in is fantastic.  Try them !!

Why I like Tuk Tuk Thai:

- I like the name. "Tuk Tuk Thai" go ahead..say it a few times. It's fun to say.

- Service. Everyone here is friendly and makes sure that you are happy with your food. I came in once with my cousin and her two little ones. We needed a banana for the little guy. Boom! They give us a banana..on a plate! Extra plates for the 3 year old. Done! More rice, water, napkins, etc. It was like they read our minds. It wasn't in the way where the staff turned up their noses because there were little loud kids. Not at all. They were very helpful and understood.

- Inexpensive. When you're craving Thai food in a neighborhood that serves overpriced Italian and you're on a budget, come here.

- Inviting environment. It's small, intimate and the walls are orange. It's open late and did I mention how affordable it is?

Yup. I'm a fan.

I live close by and in an area full of italian restaurants, it's kind of nice to have a thai option once in a while.  The food is pretty cheap (especially in this area) and good! I've tried a couple things here and so far so good!

Tuk Tuk is by far one of the best Thai places that I've been to! Whether that because all Thai food restaurants taste the same, or because i always order the same thing?? I lived in Thailand for a year so i am actually a huge connoisseur of Thai food. Not only is Tuk Tuk good but its CHEAP!!! bonus

When it comes to curry, I usually get the green curry with seafood, or the duck curry...both outstanding! They also have the most AMAZING Tom Ka which is coconut soup. It comes in a huge serving and tastes just like the curries but not as heavy. My mom actually makes me bring her Coconut soup from Tuk Tuk every time i come home....2 hour drive.

As for the Pad Thai.....awesome, not real traditional because of the thin noodles but still amazing!!! They put deep fried tofu in every order.

So there you go! I would definitely recommend it as the best Thai food in the city, or at least if you in the north beach area.

Friday night, happy hour at Columbus Cafe with a bevy of beautiful Yelpers (and me) After a couple of beers, hunger sets in...but where to? Italian? Too predictable. Seafood? Not feeling it. How about Thai? No one argues so off to Tuk Tuk we go.

Was it the best Thai food ever? No.
Was it cheap (under $15 a person including a beer each) and tasty? Yup.
Did we spend way too much time trying to figure out if it's pronounced "Tuck Tuck" or "Took Took"?  Yeah.
Did I have fun hanging with the hotties while discussing whorish tofu? For sure.

I've eaten a lot worse in North Beach for much more money...I definitely would recommend Tuk Tuk if in the 'hood and in search of a quick, inexpensive bite to eat...no matter how you pronounce it.

After a rousing happy hour at Columbus Cafe on Friday night (yes, I was one of the Yelpers out with Phil H), we decided that food would be oh so necessary in order to continue on with our debaucherous ways.

Tuk Tuk was the decided upon location, as it was not expensive, had a good repuation, and hell, we all just wanted some noodles and beer.

My Pad Se-Ew was awesome, evidenced by my licked clean plate.  Mollie S had the delicious Pad Thai, complete with "whorish tofu" and a delighfully sweet aftertaste.  They also make bomb Thai Ice-Teas.

All in all, it was a great experience.  I've had better Thai food, but I've also had a lot worse.  If you're in the North Beach area looking for something a little different and cheap, hit up the Tuk Tuk.
