Yep! Great price, good steak and terrific LOADED potato. Our service was good though the waitress did mix up Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir.
The included salad is huge but not very exciting.
The ambiance is casual. To avoid smoking, you do have to go upstairs.
$64 plus tip - a bargain even in a relatively inexpensive city.
Went there on a Saturday night with my boyfriend and his brother and wife. Service was good, they even have an OK wine selection. Steaks were reasonably priced but all of our steaks were overcooked for how we ordered. Meat was tender but not at all juicy... never experienced that before. There is no substitution for a dinner salad if you're not a salad person and substitutions for veggies instead of baked potato is an extra $2.00, even fries are an extra $1.00, don't quite get that but I guess that's their thing. Menu flexibility is definitely not an option here.
Atmosphere is nice and overall we had a good experience. Definitely have had better steaks and dinners for the same value at other restaurants and doubt we will return to Tucker's any time soon.
Went there to eat on vacation. We got really good service on a Sunday night when a lot of other places in the area aren't open. Their steaks are very good and reasonably priced. Mine came to me exactly medium rare. They kept bringing us rolls and butter, which I enjoyed. The feel of the place is very New Orleans or District, if you get what I mean there. Relaxed, non-pretentious atmosphere, with people watching the game on the other side where the bar was.
Our servers made sure everything was taken care of. I was very happy with choosing this place and would recommend it to others.
Dark? Check.
Old? Check
Non-presumptuous? Check
My friends from out of town wanted a good cheap steak. We all hate ala carte steakhouses (what a crock) and Tuckers looked like it fit the bill. Did it ever.
A 1 pound bacon-wrapped filet with salad and potato for $25? Holy crap! This place brings the heat.
Outstanding service & value in this economy....makes me smile....
So you just left the Cards or Blues game on a Tuesday night and you're starving? You're saying to yourself, "Damn I could go for a good burger but just spent my entire week's pay on $8.50 beers." Yep, I know the feeling. I also know the best kept late-night secret in the Soulard area.
Tucker's Place has great food - No doubt about it. I'm not a huge steak eater but I've had it there and it's good. What they do have that's fantastic is burgers. They're thick, juicy and cooked how you ask. And that's where this gets interesting...
After 10pm Sunday through Thursday it becomes happy hour. Burgers, appetizers and pizza are all discounted by... Wait for it... 1/2. Yeah, half price! The delicious burger which usually sells well for $6 is is $3! While that's still more than a 99 cent fast food burger, you aren't going to eat a finer sandwich at this price.
The pure awesomeness of this burger at this price warrants 5 stars but I'm deducting one star for the 11 other hours of the day it's at regular price.
So on Sunday night I decide to reward my hard-working woman with a nice steak dinner. Sage is closed but the weather is beautiful and I'm in a good mood so Tucker's it is.
We arrive about 8 p.m. and rather than go up into the fruit fly zone I ask if we can just be seated in the front tables since they were quiet, empty and clear of any smoke.
The hostess seated us and told us it would be fine and our server would be with us shortly.
After about 5 minutes, a busser did show up to take our drink order and brought my wife a soda and about 5 minutes later, the draft beer I had ordered.
By 8:30, having seen no sign of a server, despite the hostess walking by several times and not doing a thing to expedite his arrival, I left both drinks (untouched) and a $1 tip and we left.
To the Tucker's management. If you want to be paid for the untouched drinks, I will be happy to do so. Given that you won't lift a print off my glass though, and your crap service, I would hope you don't. You might want to visit occasionally and see what type of circus you have running there on Sunday night though. All future recommendations for your establishment will be redirected to Eat Rite.

They say it is "A place for Steaks" but it is also, unfortunately, a place with a consistent… Read more »
Was in town on business and Sydney Street Cafe couldn't get us in so my client recommended Tucker's. Now, I'm from the Midwest but this isn't where I would have typically gone for a business dinner but I'm glad we did. The place is an old school bar/restaurant with lots of wood, taking up two floors.
Arriving early, we sat at the bar with the locals. A conversation with the bartender about how evil Jaegermeister is somehow led us to a round of shots. Yikes! Needing to wash that taste from my mouth I asked for a recommendation on local brews that aren't made by AB (err, InBev). They guy next to us was introduced as the bar's Schlafly Expert. He made some great suggestions and I'm not a solid fan of their APA - great aroma, superb taste!
The food was decent. I'm not a big steak eater but my strip was well cooked and had good flavor. The prices are really reasonable given the quality of the meat. Everyone enjoyed their hunks of beef and I'm glad they allowed me to substitute veggies for the baker. Our waitress was very direct, to the point and somewhat physically absent. Perhaps we weren't moving to her cadence that night. No big deal, we ate, drank, talked and had a good time. Saying our goodbyes, I notice my co-worker back at the bar doing another shot with the bartender. Time to get him back to the hotel before it gets ugly. We had lots of work to do the next day.
In the neighborhood another night, we stopped in for a drink and next thing I know the bartender is ordering wings and pizza for us. Both were really good. Nice to see a place that can do good bar food and a nice sit-down meal too. We'll be back, no Jaeger for me though.
So i was stuck in St.Louis hungry. A coworker and I went over for dinner, went upstairs and had steak. It was good steak. Better than what you usually pay for the same price in L.A.
Then afterwards we went to the bar for some drinks and sat at the counter with the locals. This is where the night happens!
i'm the only Asian there, probably for another 4 mile radius in fact. But they didn't care and we all had a great time. the bartender was very friendly. we all had a good time and they gave me a shirt to take home as a souvenier. one of my favs to wear.
you don't know a town until you meet the locals and have a pint. in this case my coworker and i had a pitcher each.
They are very eager to make u happy!
For the money, a great place for steaks!
The food was alright for the price, portion sizes are a little small. If you order a steak or a dish where the main part of the meal is a grilled piece of meat, you might want to get a side salad or an appetizer to fill up...
The service was so very slow, we waited 57 minutes for our entrees. Yes. I timed them, sue me. The place was packed, so that is to be considered - but still....57 minutes is a long long long time. I'd go in if I was in the area (& if Joanie's was closed lol), but I wouldn't drive the 20 miles to eat there...
Tucker's is located in Soulard, just behind McGurks's. Tucker's, in my opinion, is a great place to go to get a hamburger. Now usually when I go out to eat, ordering a hamburger is not the first thing that I look to order because I figure that is what grilling out in the backyard is for. But, their hamburgers are the exception. They are quite wonderfully tasty.
Besides having some awesome hamburgers, that are also quite large, Tucker's has a nice bar that I enjoy being served from. The bartenders have always been polite and if they don't know how to make a certain drink, they have no problem with learning new drinks.
Tucker's is a great place to go with a group of friends. Never too loud or overly crowded, Tucker's is the kind of place where you can go with friends where you will not have to spend the entire night yelling at each other, only to answer with "what!?" Tucker's provides a nice friendly environment that everyone can enjoy.
Tucker's Place is "the place for steaks." A classic steakhouse with three locations in St. Louis (I like the Soulard location best for the ambiance and history), everyone in the city knows Tucker's. There isn't a whole lot to say about a classic steakhouse. You can pick your cut of meat, pick how you want it cooked, pick how you'd like your potato (or if you'd like a vegetable instead), pick what kind of dressing you'd like on your salad, and that pretty much sums up a steakhouse. People say coffee shops are the places consumers go to make eight choices about one thing; I say, if you're a control-freak, head for Tucker's. They'll always cook everything exactly the way you want it, it's always hot a delicious, and you won't be disappointed. Tucker's embodies all the things we love about a steakhouse, all while taking their food to the next delicious level.
What a find! This place was recommended to us by the shuttle driver at our hotel and it wound up being my favorite place to eat in St Louis. This is a little hole in the wall place that has an amazing steak dinner with a salad and a huge baked potato the size of a mini football (no joke!). If you order your potato with the works, you may have to swing by the cardiologist after for an artery cleaning..hehe. They pile on the butter, sour cream, bacon and two kinds of cheeses! Well worth it! I ordered the Filet Mignon and it was done just right and very tender!! If you like steak and are looking for a place with a little local flavor, this is the place to go!!
