Review Highlights
Outside of Utah there are some really good churrascarias and they are much better than Tucanos.
Regardless Tucanos is a great place to go and max out on some good tender meat! The dinner price really isn't worth it as there are only a few items more for dinner than there are for lunch.
The salad bar is very good and has a huge selection. The Lemonade is outstanding and even better now that it is free refills.
A great place to go with a loved one or with colleagues but leave the kids at home.
This is not a 4 star Brazilian steakhouse in national terms, but it's definitely 4 stars for Utah County. I can't think of any other place around Orem, where for $12.95, you can eat pretty good meat until it hurts, push through and eat more. Surprisingly solid salad bar (cheese bread may have meth in it) that you can attack upon arrival to Tucano's. That's the other Pro in favor of Tucano's. It's actually a pretty quick lunch if you have a reservation and get down to grubbing as soon as you arrive.
Try everything - here are some of my favorites:
-Top Sirloin
-Garlic Parm Beef
-Sirloin Tip
-Brazilian Sausage
-Grilled Pineapple
You can also add Filet, Shrimp and probably some other items I don't know about if $12.95 isn't your cap.
PS - in case after eating 3 pounds of meat and feeling like you either want to nap or yak has you in the mood for dessert.... snickers cheesecake is money.
The salad bar at Tucanos is the best thing in the restaurant. The meat is good, though even for a dedicated carnivore it is too much and too much of it is pretty much the same. Not to mention that most of it is over-cooked.
MEAT!!!
No, seriously. Meat.
Tucanos is a fascinating place. You sit down, and there's only one thing on the menu (the Churrasco), which is a massive amount of shenanigans involving a salad bar that has fried bananas, cheese balls, and salad. There's another half to the Churrasco equation though, and that's Meat. Lots of Meat.
Once you're ready, you flip the red-yellow-green cylinder to green and boom! The waiters arrive with a variety of meats. For the most part, these meats are skewered on a sword, and then the guy holding the whole thing slices off meat for you to eat. It's very easy to get way too much meat, but it's all incredibly good. My personal faves: the sausage, the turkey wrapped in bacon, the parmesan beef, and the pineapple (not a meat, but also skewered on a large sword).
Now, this place is not for the meek. You will get a LOT of meat. Pace yourself. That being said, it's fantastic, and an incredible experience to boot (they like to bring out drums for birthdays, in that fun way, and not in the cheesy way).
Overall, outstanding!
Tucanos is the ultimate stuff your face with half a cow resturaunt. The salad bar is delicious but don't fill up on it before you taste the meats. It's basically there to wetten your taste buds and get your stomach pumping for all that grilled gorgeous meat u are about to desire. I guarantee that this place is so good after u leave you will either fall into a deep sleeep coma or have to unbutton your pants.
Solid four stars! Tucanos is a very interesting experience and is definitely worth checking out at least once. They have a decent salad/side bar with some good stuff but the star of the show here is definitely the meat. Most of the meat is good but there are only a few items that are excellent (thus the 4 stars rather than 5) like the bacon-wrapped turkey. They also have some more unique items in the back if you ask for them (like chicken hearts).
If you're a vegetarian, this place is not for you. If you are starving and love good meat, you owe it to yourself to try this place.
The last time I was there, service was horrible because they were short staffed... it took about 20 minutes for someone to come by our table with food, but we managed by taking double amount of the food!!!!
Overall, great good... bypass the salad bar, except for the salsa. If this is your first time, try all the food at least once, then from there eat only the ones you like. I highly recommend it :)
Overrated. If ya have not had it, you need to go at least once, and once is all you really need. Yes it is all you can eat, but it is really not that great. So if you want to go somewhere and sit and eat all that you want, then go here. It is probably the best buffet in town, if that is what you are looking for. But if you want high quality food, this is not the place.
It's quite good for people who never tried Brazilian grill before. Their salad bar has plenty of selections; including shrimp salad that taste more like Shrimp Ceviche and some pasta.
Their meat selection is quite good if you are a meat lover. The wait staff are very attentive and keep asking you what else that you want. Overall is a great experience, and will definitely come back again.
Grilled, tender, moist, flavorful Brazilian-style meat. An intriguing and diverse salad bar. Fried bananas and grilled, juicy pineapple. What's not to love about Tucanos? Some might say the price, but for an occasional splurge and belly-busting carnivorous pleasure, I would recommend Tucanos to anyone. Women like that it's exotic and indulgent. Men see all that meat and start drooling onto their plate. It's a sure-fire winner for a dinner date.
So keep that marker with the green side up until you can scarcely breathe, you're so fat. That's why I love Tucanos, and I can't get over how spoiled Utahns are for having one in Provo. I wish they had an equally good churrasco in Sacramento now that I have relocated.
The food is delicious, the roasted pineapple is my favorite. Also try the Brazilian lemonade, it is SO good.
Why three stars? I would give the food 5 stars and the service 1 star.
The first time I went here years ago, the meat guy cut my finger with his bloody knife. He cut part of the meat, then paused for me to grab it with my tongs, so I moved my hand forward to grab the piece of hanging meat, and he sliced into my finger!! When we asked our waitress what they would do about it she laughed at us. They did nothing about it. So watch your fingers!!
I love Tucanos -- and not just for the meat. The salad bar is fantastic, the specialty drinks are very good, and the grilled pineapple is amazing. Chicken hearts are a definite must, and their mango cod is really great. Tends to be pretty busy, so make a reservation. Kids under 8 eat free with their parents, and they have a birthday club you can sign up for to get a free meal (with a paid one) during the month of your birthday. Their chocolate cake is also a great finish -- if you can manage to save room!
This is where I was introduced to Brazilian Grills.
I can still smell the sweet smell and here the sizzle. They have this system that lets them know to open the flood gates or when to stop.
I had been there a couple times mostly lunch and it was not to busy. I went once for dinner ( that wonderful grandmother in law was having a birthday party)
I think that night I ate too much. I just couldn't say no. I didn't have any room for dessert.
I would recommend this to everybody
Green means GO! If you're a meat lover-this is the place for you. As you walk in you see the Unlimited Salad Bar, but I recommend a small plate because your main focus is the meat. Loved the meat selection, but my favorite of all is the Pineapple. The waiters/waitresses are nice enough to ask you what exactly you're looking for and will bring it to you, especially during slower times. Finish the meal with a Creme Brulee for perfection.
If you love meat--this is the place. Come hungry--because you won't leave that way!!! Great food - a bit noisy - but you will love this place.
I can't believe this place hasn't been reviewed yet. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. I make a point to make a pilgrimage to Tucano's at least once a month. This is a place where all people, young and old, male and female, of all the colors of the rainbow, can come together over bountiful platters of meat. There's just something medieval about it, it's wonderful. (Don't worry, there is also a large salad bar, for the more health-inclined.) You just sit down, turn the green side of your little wooden-marker thingy upwards, and sit back while strapping young men bring a tantalizing array of freshly-roasted meats on giant metal skewers straight to your table. You can tell them how you like your meat, which meats you prefer, etc., and they are always very accommodating. My personal favorites are the Garlic Sirloin and the Beef Tender. They also have a wide variety of chicken, pork, turkey, some seafood, and yes, even vegetable dishes. Lunch is about $12 without tax and tip, and dinner will be closer to $20. I've been to each multiple times, and really don't see too much difference between the lunch and dinner service. And don't forget the roasted pineapple! Delicious, sweet, brown-sugar-coated-and-roasted-over-an-open-flame pineapple bliss, which is a perfect palate-cleanser after a few rounds of meat. Mmmmm...life is good.
Excellent. If you like to eat lots of meat, then this is the place for you. As a Brazilian barbecue, they cook various marinated meats on skewers. Every minute or so, someone will stop by your table with a skewer and cut off a piece for you (so long as your tabletop signal has the green side up). Be sure not to let the grilled pineapple pass you by. Also be sure to go hungry so you don't fill up before sampling all of the selection.
