Loved the chili.  I'm a carnivore through and through and, in spite of that, I loved the turkey chili.

Clean, friendly, if you're in CC, go grab some chili. You'll like it

The service: 5 stars. Quick, efficient, hard working, friendly and eager to help. Fast with a recommendation when you are looking over the menu.

The chili and assorted chili based dishes: 2 or 3 stars.

The chili doesnt have any "spark". No "zing".
The hot sauce doesnt really add any flavor, it just makes it "hot". We actually added ketchup to a take out order and it was improved.

Its a nice clean place where you can sit down and eat or take out.

Its there. Its edible. Its not half bad but it wont knock your socks off.
Stop by and give them a shot. You might really like it. Just have a back up plan for dinner.

I get to sit on a saddle AND watch a western while I eat my chili?! Yeeeee-haw! I'm in!

I was really craving chili (yes, weird!) the other night and found this place on Yelp. The guys that work there are AWESOME. They let us try all the chili before we chose which one we wanted and were REALLY generous with their "8 ounces". I got the Campfire-Triple B with brown rice and split buffalo chips with my friend; we both thought it was delicious. Really flavorful and filling. I didn't find it too pricy but I guess if you're a manly man it could get a little expensive feeding the beast.

The chili here is alright but would NEVER hold a candle in a chili "cook off". The chili is very average and the overall experience here is even worse. Although it is not really expensive, it is a tad spendy for the type of food that is served here.  The base price is $4.99 and then they charge 60 cents per additional ounce. To give you a visual of how little 6 ounces is, picture a can of Coca Cola (12 ounce can), then picture a half of that. That is the exact amount you receive for a the said price. The chili we did receive had very little substance to it other than the beans. This is what we ordered (all 6 ounce portions, description take directly off their menu):

    * "Steak Town" http://www.yelp.com/bi... - Generous cuts of marinated grilled steak are hitched into pinto beans that have been simmering all day in selected seasonings. This was my husbands order and although he said it tasted fine, it contained too many beans and there was very little meat in it. There was NOT a single, minute amount of steak to it. It contained a small amount of ground beef.

    * "Chuck Wagon Grind http://www.yelp.com/bi... - Rancher Rick's hand selected ground chuck is charbroiled and combined with a blend of chilies & spices to make a Tub of perfection - no beans here. The supposedly all beef chili did not contain too much beef and most of it was tomato sauce. He ate only part of it.

    * "Turkey Drive" http://www.yelp.com/bi... - Lean ground turkey first roasted, then corralled with red kidney beans and 22 other healthy ingredients. The flavor and texture of this chili was very good and not greasy at all. What bothered me the most was the lukewarm temperature of the chili. I had to ask for it to be microwaved and the bread bowl became stale as a result.

    * "Hushpuppy Tails" http://www.yelp.com/bi... This was the worst cornbread we have ever eaten. These little nuggets must have been deep fried because they were hard and crunchy.

"Tubs" is mediocre chili at a premium price. The flavor and texture of the chili here was unimpressive and think that you could buy canned chili at the supermarket for a fraction of the price.

What bothered me most here was the service. When I brought my chili back to the counter to have it heated, one of the employees there cheerfully reheated it. However, I did explain that all 3 bowls of our chili was lukewarm (hubby ate it anyway). We arrived at "Tubs" at 12:30 pm on a Sunday afternoon and this place opens at 12:00 pm. It was obvious that it was refrigerated from the night before and reheated the day we arrived. They did not have enough time to heat it to the right temperature. The owner heard my concern but the staff simply shrugged their shoulders. I don't understand all the great reviews here but these people must be full of beans (like their chili).

4-star Chili with 5-star Service. I mean honestly who gives a tiny restaurant that mainly serves American Chili 5 stars? Honestly, who? Well, I guess I do.

Despite my desire to NOT give 5 stars, there just isnt any reason to saddle Tub's. Its home-style chili, cool-cut fries, sinful ice cream sandwich, cowboy atmosphere, country hospitality, free-flowing samples, reasonable prices, sparkling cleanliness, and free parking all add up to 5 giddy-ups out of 5.

After a couple sample tastes, I settled on the popular Steak Town chili. The grilled Steak and Pinto Bean classic was exactly that ... classically good. Next time, I'm gonna try the Campfire Triple-B with Bacon, Beef, and Black Beans or the veggie Cattleman's Pass.

As you can tell, all the grub at Tub's has cute names including the sizes. You basically pay $4.99 for 6 oz. (aka City Slicker) and then $0.60 per ounce. I opted for the 13 oz. Buckaroo ($9.19). The chili comes in a Toasted Bread Tub like a flat-bread bowl that provides a good base. I opted for the "Gunsling-It" upgrade for a soda and "Tub Topper" extras of Corn Chips, Cheese, Onions, and Sour Cream.

In addition to free samples of chili, Justin offered one of the house "french fries" which are actually fried round Potato Slices (dubbed Tub's Buffalo Chips). They were pretty cool with Ranch Dressing for a nice $2.99 side.

Two spicy discoveries were a T-N-T Sauce (branded as Tub's Nitro Tonic) and Tub's Mojave Mash Mustard. The sauce is actually a Habanero Oil. Add sprinkles of it to get the exact heat level you like. Best of all, the oil just adds spice without changing the flavor of the chili. The loaded mustard was one of the best mustards I've ever had. I want a bottle of it for Christmas next year.

Justin may have been one of most genuine & helpful guys I've met at a fast-food joint, but he wasn't alone. Lucy at the register & Sergio dishing up the food are extroverts loving their jobs ... while sporting cool cowboy hats. Tub's looks and feels like a fun family business. I want to join this family!

For dessert, Olivia Z. and I split a $4.99 EUREKA! What is a EUREKA! and why am I shouting it? Well, the menu yells it in all caps and this may be one of the best traditional Ice Cream Sandwiches I've had. It's a huge pair of fresh Chocolate Chip Cookies around Triple Vanilla Ice Cream rolled in Sundae Peanuts. Waiting inside is a Ghiradelli Fudge Brownie Dough center. It's an absolute yummy way to knock out your calorie intake for the day.

The clean interior of Tub's is a total country theme. Sure it's all a facade, but it kind of works with the old B/W cowboy flick on the TV, lots of country music, and a table with seats shaped like wooden saddles.

Tub's Chili may not be from Texas, but Tub's felt like my kind of simple comfort food. The kind I'd make at home. It's perfect for a cool winter evening or whenever you just feel homesick. Five shiny stars for a cool fast food take on an American classic. Tub's Chili is one of Culver City's best small secrets.

Edit: increased rating to 3.  I bitch about it, but in all fairness I do go there again.  Also have added more items and that has been appealing.

Chili is fine, not really special compared to what you can get almost anywhere else and is a bit pricey.  You can visit in in out burger and be happy with only one item on the menu, but they need to add other items like BBQ chicken to be worth repeat visits.  This feels more like a test location for a fast food franchise than it does a place to eat.

This is one of the few chili only restaurants west of Crenshaw, and the chili is pretty good, though pricey per portion. The thing that stood out the most to me the first time I went to Tub's was the attitude of the owner. What an over confident snob... As I ordered a pint of his over priced chili, I asked him about adding a chili dog to the menu. He responded with an annoyed laugh and said "no plans to do that". When I asked why he said "now, why would I want to waste premium meat chili on a hot dog?". I replied that they are delicious. He shook his head and said "there will never be a chili dog at this restaurant." This response ticked me off, so I said "you really shouldn't get in the habit of making a customer feel stupid for suggesting something." He walked to the back without reply.

The place was pretty new at the time and the owner was obviously proud of his chili, as well as his bizarre use of cornmeal "bowls" (an acquired taste), but his pride also seemed cocky. The guy just turned me off.

I boycotted the place after that, not that I was looking for chili places to eat at all the time, but still...

A year or more later I happened to go to the liquor store next door and thought I'd pop in to see how the place was doing. I looked at the menu a moment (yup, there was now a CHILI DOG on it!) and left. The owner wasn't there. As I got into my car, a woman stopped me and said hello. She was blonde and beautiful, somewhere in her 40s-50s. With absolute charm and grace, she asked me if there was something she could help me with, hoping to convince me to give Tub's chili a try. I told her I had already tried it and mentioned the owner and the chili dog issue. She was disappointed that I'd had a bad experience and apologized on behalf of -- wait, wait -- her HUSBAND, the OWNER. I was amazed! She is quite a catch for the guy.

Based on her genuine customer care, I decided to give it another try. I got the chili dog and it was pretty good, though the weird cornbread bun doesn't work (she told me her husband always has to put a twist on things). I've actually had it a few times now.

Funny enough, I haven't seen either the owner nor his wife subsequently. Too bad... She should always be there; her presence will help business in a big way!

I love Tubs!!! Their food is delicious, especially the hush puppy tails and buffalo chips!!! The country western feel is a lot of fun and it's one of the few places in L.A. That makes you feel like you're in a small town with the friendly staff. Rick and his family and staff are awesome and super sweet. Oh yes and they have the best vegetarian chili anywhere!!!

When working in Culver City a couple of coworkers asked me to go have chili with them one afternoon.  Who the heck serves just chili anymore?

Well apparently there's a little place that I didn't remember despite going to Comics Ink on a regular basis.

Not sure what you want?  Have a sampling to help you decide.  I would recommend getting it in a tortilla bowl and going from there.  The portioning is massive.  There's multiple chilis to choose from, and they let you sample before you make your final decision.

They do not, however, come in a tub.  But damn you can get quite a bit in that bowl.  For the sake of your bowels, get it to go.  Unless you are ok with the guilt of eatting that much in one sitting.  (Sometimes other parts of the body bark back and the guilt comes quicker... but only if you're a dude because surely classy girls don't... oh look a cloud!)

    Summation:
Tasty.  Afterwards, be sure to wash your hands and then get your comic on next door.Woot Culver City!

I live in Orange County, but I often drive to LA for work.  When I do, I usually stop at Tub's Fine Chili for a bowl of Chuck Wagon Grind chili.  The chili is delicious and the portion is generous.  But for me, I love tearing off huge pieces of the bread bowl and dipping it in my chili.  You can add all kinds of great toppings, but I simply prefer mine with cheese and onions on top.  Yummy!

Last visit I added an order of buffalo chips with ranch dressing.  Not sure how I missed this side dish before, but I'll never miss them again.  What a perfect addition to the meal!  Thanks to Rick, the friendly owner, for suggesting it.

Straddle one of the comfortable saddle-shaped stools and give it a try!

The taco is amazing... Partly bc it's just a bunch stuff thrown into a yummy shell. They use a cilantro type dressing that tops it off. So if you're gonna get anything, get that.
    The food is decent.
Some things are overpriced like the hush puppies and the chips.
The hush puppies are tiny and deep fried cornbread type things...
The buffalo chips.... Taste like potato chips, people!
I don't know what the hype is all about.

I've been here twice and there's this tall male worker (think he's new) who is rude.

Oh Man. What a Great Find!

I stumbled upon this place after work after scouring the neighborhood for  a quick snack. I didn't expect to be blown away by chili, but I was.

Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by what I assume was the manager. He gave me directions on how to order and gave me recommendations. He was very helpful.

I ordered the Turkey Drive chili. It was a pleasant surprise. Loved it! It was hot, it was spicy, it was delicious. I can't wait to come back here and try all of their other varieties.

I also nibbled on their bbq chips/potatoes. It was something I never have had before. You MUST go here. They're chips are enough to make anyone's mouth water.

I left the place satisfied and full. I can't wait to come back.

    Thank you Tubs!

I love this place.  It's local, the owners really love what they're doing and the service is always good.

All of their varieties are great but I particularly love the veggie chili and their spicy oil which is just the best.

I tried them for a big order for my daughter's birthday, left my crockpot the day after and picked it up just an hour before the party, they delivered just as I expected and everyone in the party enjoyed a great chili dog, some of my guests liked the chili so much they even took some to go.

If you happen to be in the area, try it.  And make sure you try their chips, too... yummie!

Seriously?  FOUR star average??  I don't get it.

We're always on the lookout for good chili in LA.  Driving up Overland one day, this tiny storefront just happened to catch my husband's eye. After reading the glowing reviews on yelp, we got super excited and decided to try it the very next day.

Small and cute place. Easy parking. Nice staff.  But the chili??

    SO UTTERLY AVERAGE.

Don't get me wrong. Its not BAD. But its totally unmemorable. We ate in silence for the most part, initially unable to accept how average the whole thing was.  And to add to the disappointment?  The price!!

For 2 small bowls of chili (starts at 6oz - which is really little, so we got 8oz each) and toppings (which are extra), came out to over $17!!  What the heck, chili is not supposed to be expensive food, guys. We weren't even close to full afterwards.

And that "tnt" and other sauces mentioned in reviews.. there are no difference sauces. Just one container of habanero juice - which is so not hot, despite multiple pourings.

If you want mild, easy chili, I guess this is the place.  But I like my chilis with a lot of heat, flavor and kick - and sadly, none was to be found here.

Holy-Fricken-Moly! How on earth after working in Culver City for 2 years am I just now discovering Tubs! Now this is some good damn eats! This place is extra cute. Looks kinda whole-in-the-wall in a small little shopping center (a plus for me!) and the decor inside is very homestyle-southern. FRIENDLY, I'm talkin friendlyyyy service! Free samples and smiles...can't go wrong there!

They have about 5 or 6 different chilis, a bunch a yummy sides, as well as other options (aka chili pizza! Gotta try that!). I sampled the Turkey Drive, Smokin' Pig, & Steak Town - decided to go with the Steak Town in a bread bowl tub topper style. They all were so good so it was a hard choice. My coworkers and I shared the hushpuppy tails and buffalo chips. They come with honey butter and dipping sauces. How good were they? Ummmm, let's just say I left butter in my purse!

You need to saddle up and ride on over to Tubs!

I had to update my review on Tubs Fine Chili!!! I hadn't been here in a while and my visit was seriously long overdue! They have added so many new amazing things to their menu!!

I ordered the Chili Dingo which was delicious! Tubs really has redefined the basic chili dog! Instead of an ordinary white-bread bun they have replaced it with a golden homemade cornbread bun, isn't that just genius! Imagine that with a hot dog and your choice of  their signature delicious chili's topped on it! Oh and how can I forget ...it is sprinkled with cheese and onions! Doesn't that sounds like absolute perfection!

I am really tempted to go back today and get one despite the fact that I was just there yesterday! It is really that amazing that you'll find yourself craving it!

You can't go wrong with Tubs Fine Chili, there is absolutely NO excuse in the world for you not to come here. If you're vegetarian then order the Cattleman's Pass, if you're a meat lover I recommend Smokin' Pig, Steak Town, my favorite TURKEY DRIVE or honestly any other chili on the menu, and if you're gluten free they offer brown rice for you to top your chili with! Isn't that all so awesome!

Don't hesitate coming here, this place is GREAT! 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!

Wow, I really should have reviewed this place before now.  Seriously, stop what you're doing right now, and go.  The buffalo chips are insanely good with the ranch sauce, the Cowhand Casserole is unique and delicious, and the Chili Shooters are like fried perfection.  Finish off your meal with a Eureka ice cream sandwich, and understand the madness of fudge brownie dough surrounded by high quality ice cream and book-ended with soft, fresh cookies.  The owners are super nice and very customer-oriented; this is exactly the kind of business which deserves local support.

I live in Culver City and have passed by this place for YEARS and never stopped in until now.  I've been missing out. The customer service was great, since it was my first time I asked the guy a zillion questions and he let me sample the different chilis. He was really helpful, nice and patient.  I narrowed it down to my favorite two, "steak town" and "turkey drive" to share between the hubby and I.  Turkey drive is our favorite though.

It starts at 6oz and you can increase the ounces you want from there.  It comes in a toasted bread bowl(but you can order it without if you choose) . I topped it off with the "Tub Topper": red and green onions, cheese, sour cream and corn chips.  Of course since I like my food hot and spicy I added the Nitro Tonic hot sauce and was in heaven.  Yum ! Good eatin' and great "comfort food".

Can't wait till my next trip to Tubs.  I'll have to try more things on the menu next visit.

Very friendly owner and staff.  clean place, has parking right up front.

as for their chili, it is comparable to the glass jar chili that can be found in a grocery store.  the price was a bit high for the amount of chili that you get.

their tnt hot oil was not "tnt" in terms of the heat level of spice, so i added about 20+ drops and i still was not on fire at that point.

Deep in the heart of Culver City, just past the pasture (Veterans Park), and out on the back forty (Overland Avenue), lies a little spot that keeps the local cowboys, cowgirls, and miners fed, with some good ol' fashioned, rib-stickin', hot & tasty chili. Tubs Fine Chili & Fancy Fixin's, according to their website, was born in the gold rush country of the Sierra Nevada foothills in a little town called Placerville. Tub's continues the 1849 tradition of feeding hungry gold miners seeking a hot & tasty meal at a fair price.

Be hungry when you go. They weren't kidding when they said "rib-stickin'" It was delicious.

    Here's the feast:

Chili Cheese Nuggets: they were awesome! They were like a better version of a hushpuppy.

Steak Town Chili - thick, hearty, and extremely flavorful...and yes, I did Gunsling it!

When you're feeling gritty, Tubs is the place to go. With all sorts of flavors and free samples, you can't go wrong with chili. You can have it in a bowl with bread (of the flatbread/pita variety), over rice, or over pasta, but it's still going to taste fantastic. They also serve a little bit of hot oil on the side that you can add in to your liking. I put a few drops and stirred it up so that I'd have heat without compromising my taste buds. It is a little pricey for being chili, but this certainly doesn't come out of a can (you could easily pay $10 if you're really hungry. $5-6 is a light meal's worth). I would absolutely go back whenever I have a hankering for some chili. The decor is fun to look at, too.

Came in after visiting Comics Ink nearby, the owner was behind the counter and his hot daughter at the register.

Like a baskin robbins the owner serves up free tastings each of all his chilis, whether it be his Steak town, chuck wagon grind, smokin' Pig, turkey or chicken, even his vegetarian chili its all tasty goodness.

The service is personal and friendly as they serve up corny jokes and some of the best chili in SoCal.

    Get some.

My husband LOVES it (he gets beef with no beans). I personally will not order that here. I like Chili Johns beef with no beans chili and you just can not compare the two.

They have some fried goodies that are delicious. Their chips great (home made thick potato chips).

Some of their chilli's to me are more like a nice bowl of stew. I like to order their turkey or chicken chili. Both are light and you don't feel gross or stuffed when you leave.

The chili choices are overwhelming, but luckily the staff here are great and clearly explain your options (types if chili, sizes and serving options - chili only, on rice or pasta) and also invite you to sample of any of them. (Now, we did go along 15 mins before closing so there were no customers impatiently waiting behind us.)

We got the 10 oz sizes of chicken and beans chili, the smoking pig with blacked-eyed peas and the Chuck Wagon Grind made of chuck beef and the only chili at Tubs without beans. It was was about $20-25 and I paid with my coupon.

I love that the food is sold in recycled paper containers rather than polystyrene. I'm not sure if it's better for the world, but it certainly felt that way and I'm sure it costs more to provide that to customers. We also got offered chili oil so we could customize the heat in our chili.

It's all these touches that make Tubs a great little restaurant. It has a feel of a polished franchise, but this is the one and only store. I hope it gets busy and stays busy. A good spot.

Went here with my girlfriend on Sunday, and had a great experience! Met one of the owners and her daughter. Both extremely nice!! Offered samples of their various chilis. Each sample was great!

Ended up going with the cowhand casserole with the bacon and black bean chili. So good! Also had some of the hushpuppy tails, also great!

My girlfriend got the white chicken chili with a side of chips and bbq sauce. Once again another tasty treat!

Definitely a local treat and I am happy to be so close to it! Which may end up dangerous but thats ok! Recommended for chili lovers!

Going to have to return this week perhaps hah!

12/13/10  I've driven by this place a million times and was curious, so decided to stop (even though I had just bought comfort food at Whole Food).

Well, they got me with their turkey chili.  They have a fairly large menu for such a small chili spot.  Rico, the manager, is very friendly and helpful and pointed out all the different choices.

They start with a bread bowl (or you can have rice or pasta instead).  Then you choose the type of chili.  If you want, then for $1.79 you can get the "toppings":  cheese, onion, sour cream.  I would have liked cilantro also.  I just got the little 6 oz. chili and even with the toppings it barely filled 1/2 of the bread bowl.  If your appetite is raging, you'll want to get the larger portion.

After only sitting for a minute or so, the cheese was all nice and melted on top of the chili.  The raw red onion gave a nice snap.  They have a hot sauce too, but the mild spiciness was all I wanted.

All in all, a great place to stop for a quick snack, a filling meal, or take out.

Great tasting chili. I had the seasonal Oktober Feast in a pita bowl. Also added some of the habanero chili oil...delicious! A little pricey. They charge by the ounce rather than a standard sm, med, lg.  $10 for a 12oz bowl. I was still hungry afterwards. Wendy's is still the best deal for good chili at a reasonable price.

This place is pretty darn tasty.

Kept missing this place as it closes at 9pm but finally was able to stop in for a bite to eat with my insignificant other.

At first glance after ordering I thought I was going to be starving after wards. I ordered the 12 oz. Steak House which had pretty good sizes of beef and was not hot at all.

My insignificant other ordered the 9 oz. Turkey one which was very tasty and better then the steak.

We also ordered the Hush Puppy Tails which were very good with their honey butter. Should have ordered the tater fries or whatever they are called.

Definitely a very tasty place, customer service is really good and they let you try all of the different flavors of chili.

Ok I swear I just left here not more than twenty minutes ago and I have to write reviews while they are fresh on my mind.... I have been driving by this place for more than two years and something made me stop today!!! OMG I'm glad I did .... The first two bites was amazing!! I had the turkey chili bowl on rice with cheese and sour cream!!! Pure delish.. The service was great.. It was my first time there and lots of chili choices.  I was given a sample and brief explanation on how to order.. And after eating half the bowl I'm stuffed but I want to keep going lol... Great find !

I eat at Tubs at least once a week. If you don't eat meat, you do not need to worry because the vegetarian chili is amazing! Get it in a bread bowl or with rice. Add some TNT for some heat. Just go easy on the number of scoops, because a full bowl gets a little pricey.

When you have Fine Chili in your name it's allot to live up to. Tub's passes easily.
A good selection of six different chili, most are served in a hard pita shell.
They have allot of topping to add to the delicious chili.
There homemade potato chips which are truly amazing,
TNT sauce is a must, adds a little heat to the chili.
Service is always friendly and loves explaining the different chili's they serve and always is willing to give you a sample to try.
If you like chili this is the place for you.
