Do not be intimated by the metal bars that wrap around this sweet spot! Tsue Chong Co. aka Rose Brand also cranks out chow mein noodles, won ton and assorted wrappers that the local Chinese restaurants use.
I do a drive-by and pick up a sack of the saucer "mistake" fortune cookies. Cash only, of course. I eat it like senbei. I don't need the actual fortune, for my recreational snacking. It is stupid cheap! No need to go buy it at Uwajis, unless you're traveling and need that plastic tub container.
The strips of fortunes only get in the way, and itemizes how much damage I caused. I think a jaded employee snuck a special fortune in one I got recently said, "you won't be laughing when you get the bill." ?!? ...Awkward.
Stopped by here when I was in Chinatown this afternoon. It's only $7.25 for a large bag of the unfortunate fortune cookies, and $2.25 for the small bag. Keep some at home for yourself and bring the rest to work. Go for the bag with the darker cookies for the most flavor. Love their fortune cookies!
You can get a 5 lb bag of 'Unfortunate' Fortune Cookies for $7 dollars. This place has the curb appeal of a Federal Penitentiary but the cookies here are worth it. Their unfortunates are quite fresh and addictive. Grab a bag for your office mates and you're a hero.
These guys totally make the best fortune cookies and noodles! Hell, they have been doing it since 1917 and still going strong!
My earliest recollection about their fortune cookies was when my father brought home this gigantic, clear bag full of unfortunate fortune cookies (flats). My sister and I were beside ourselves and totally gorged on them; and later getting in trouble with mom because we weren't hungry for dinner! They still sell those 5lb bags of unfortunate fortune cookies for $6.30. They also offer different flavors of fortune cookies. Flavors like: strawberry, lemon, cherry, mint, mocha, cinnamon, apple, blueberry, chocolate and pina colada. These flavored fortune cookies run $1.15 for a 4oz package (16 cookies). If you have some special occasion to celebrate, you can also have them do custom flavors and fortunes for you!
I do stop by every once in a while and pick up their fresh noodles. They have 19 different varieties to choose from, though they don't have all of them stocked in the refrigerator case. If there is something you are looking for that isn't there just ask!
Fortunes in fortune cookies have changed over the years. These aren't from Tsue Chong, but when I was growing up fortunes weren't so politically correct:
Boy, wouldn't it suck to get this one:

Today marks my one-year anniversary of my first post on Yelp! Whoo-hoo! What a year it has been!

* I'm sorry that I had to use a previous design. Boo. I'm a man of limited creativity! Lazy too! :D
Screw the misfortunate cookies I splurged and went for the real fortune cookies.
I wanted green onion pancakes from Szechuan Noodle Bowl the other day; I found a parking spot not even a block away, SCORE! I step out of my car and am accosted by this sweet vanilla-y scent that all of a sudden made me want a waffle cone instead of green onion pancakes. I refocused and head into the Szechuan Noodle Bowl to place my order to go. My green onion pancakes are ready I head back outside and again I'm overwhelmed by the tasty smell of sweet vanilla I have to find out where it's coming from.
I put my food in my car and look around; lo and behold I'm parked right in front of the Tsue Chong Co store this is where the yummy smell is coming from. I walk in and it's dark, hmm is it closed? I look around, not much in there, not even a person behind the counter. I check out the refrigerator section and see all kinds of fresh noodles but in 2 lb packs. Now I love me some fresh noodles but there was no way I could buy 2 lbs and eat them before they went bad or I got sick of them, please make smaller packages available Tsue Chong. Than I saw them fresh wonton wrappers.
While I was home dying of the flu I watched one too many shows on the Food Network and saw where someone made ravioli using wonton wrappers and while on the couch decided one day I was going to try my own. So I grab a package of wrappers from the refrigerator and than grab some real fortune cookies and headed to the register where someone magically appeared out of thin air. The cookies were great so fresh and vanilla-y and tasty, loved them and full of fortunes some even came with two! The ravioli came out great and I have some left over wrappers so that I can make my own crab ragoons just as soon as I figure out how to fry them since I don't own a deep fryer.
I heart unfortunate fortune cookies, nuff said....
Pick up a nice size bag on the cheap, one of the better deals in the ID!!
You need noodles? They got'em!
In my youth we'd open the fortune cookie and add the words "in bed" to the end of each fortune, for giggles.....
I.E.
"You like Chinese Food....in bed." Duh!
"You will find great fortune in the near future....in bed." OMG! I might have a new career!!
"Accept the next proposition you hear....in bed." Sorry honey, cash only....
"You are a happy man....in bed." Like duh! Where's the remote...
"Happiness is found when one is not looking...in bed." Honey this is Abby. Abby this is...
"You will be the guest of a gracious host...in bed." SCH-WING! YEAH BABY! Ala Austin Powers....
It's a factory, a factory full of fortune cookies. My mom used to get the flat cookies from here when we were little. We didn't care for the fortunes, mostly because I already know that 'I Like Chinese Food', and that 'Someone Thinks I'm Special'.
They have the best fortune cookies ever, whether it's with fortunes or without.
I came here with my heart set on purchasing a giant bag of Unfortunate Cookies. I've shown up twice to find the store closed, so I was THRILLED to have the door actually open and to set foot inside.
I marched right in and grabbed myself an enormous basketball-sized bag of flat and broken cookies, paid $7.25, and marched back out, giddy with excitement. I took my cookies back to the office and opened them- and that is when I realized...
I am such a fool. It is going to take me at least 6 months to eat all of these, at which point I will probably never want another fortune cookie ever again.
Ah well. They are fresh and delicious and I'll make my coworkers eat them with me. I will report back on how much fortune (or misfortune) we've had as a result of eating all of these.
Ever wonder where your fortune cookie is from, the one with a rose print? It's a local business right in the heart of the International District in Seattle. It has been in the Louie family for four generations. No wonder they make the best fortune cookies ever. Dozens of restaurants order their fortune cookies from this factory.
History:
Fortune cookies did not originate from China, but was an US invention. It became a popular item within the Chinese-American restaurants. Don't think fortune cookies are "authentic".
Flavors:
You can get them in mocha, lemon, mint, and strawberry.
This place also makes Chinese noodles and you can get them at their store if you can't find them in the groceries. I love their noodle selection as well! Yum!
One thing I like about their store is that they have $5 bags (HUGE) for all the unfortunate cookies- ones that did not fold aka the flat fortune cookies. They are just as good for half the price!
A must go for all locals. Something to keep in mind is that their store front is small and unappealing, but the quality of food will win you over. Enjoy!
I'm lining up too! Everyone always calls this the fortune cookie place, but they have the best egg noodles, too! You buy em by the 5 or 10 lb box.
Take 'em home and make the chinese version of pho!
I always love to crack open a cookie and see the rose print on it because, good or bad, I know that my fortune will be accurate and come true...and I will have a yummy cookie to consume as well. Without a doubt the best tasting cookies out there.
There's a wonderful array of flavored fortune cookies here. The cookie/noodle outlet is at the other end of the factory or down the block. These pre-packaged cellophane bags are pretty inexpensive at $1.25 a bag. Some flavors are pina colada, lemon, almond, and ginger. You can also get a nice big bag of plain flat cookies.
Luuuvvvvv this place! Completely without pretension. Cookies and noodles stacked up on the shelves. A great treat. Noodles are good too!
