If you are used to Vegas style hotel experiences be prepared to get frustrated.   Atlantic city in general is no Las Vegas. Not even close.

ROOMS: I stayed in the new Chairman tower.  The highlight of the trip was the new modern rooms.  They were actually very nice, however a piece of our toilet was broken and I had to lift the top of the bowl to figure out what was going on.  I was able to get the bowl to flush even in it's broken state.  Not a good sign.

PARKING:  Be prepared to pay to park.  The Taj will give you a pass if you are staying overnight but you still have to pay for the first parking since you are not checked in yet.   The whole process is a pain.  You have to get a form filled out by the attendant and sit there while she processes it.

CHECK-IN:  This is by far the worst part of the trip.  Check-in is at 1pm.  Most hotels will take you earlier and then just let you into your room at 1pm if the rooms are not free.  Not the Taj.  They turn you away until 1pm even though there are 10 agents standing behind the counter doing practically nothing.   Then about an hour before checkin, TONS of people start queuing up to check in.   The line can easily exceed 100 guests.  So picture hundreds of people online and 10 agents standing there free.  VERY frustrating, especially if you just traveled and are tired.

GAMBLING:  The gambling scene is tired.  Not very exciting and the hotel does not offer much to differentiate itself from others.  Finding the slot machines you like at the denominations you want to play can be challenging.  Nothing spectacular here.  OH, and when I ordered a beer while gambing they brought me a 6 oz plastic cup half filled with basic beer.  It was a JOKE!  Here I am tossing away some decent bucks and they are giving me a Dixie cup of beer.  Shoot me please?!
Ah and gents, the cocktail waitresses can best be described as "gruesome" for the most part.

THE BUFFET: Low value here.   We had breakfast on a Sunday for $28 each.  It was VERY small for the money.   Just standard stuff and not much of it.  They had an omelet station  but they used disposable sterno fuel so it took forever to cook an omelet.   By the way, the buffet is closed for breakfast during the week.  Only open on weekends.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS:  Not much, the hotel did not have exceptional shopping, or other items of interest.  We spent our time looking elsewhere for non-gambling entertainment.  We did visit the indoor (only) pool which is on the 14th floor of the main tower.  It was nice but kinda chilly (for an indoor pool) and didn't have a jacuzzi.  They have jacuzzi's outside which are only open in the summer.

OVERALL:  I was not impressed with this hotel and will not be returning. Keep in mind that my view is Jaded with many awesome Vegas experiences.  My hopes to bring a near Vegas like trip closer to home wound up being a disappointment.   From a distance, the Borgata seems to be a better move though I did not stay in their rooms (just visited the hotel during my stay.)

Ok I know that there is a recession and that atlantic city is dying, but wtf.  The hotel is totally run down and I know it's near the beach and the weather destroys things quicker too but fix it up!  Paint is chipping, the style is outdated and the carpet seems old.  I feel like the Taj Mahal would be such a cool hotel/casino if it was updated.

The poker room has workers who don't work or understand how to work either.  No one was at the front so my boyfriend had to find someone to help him join a table.  Apparently all the tables were full so they put him on a list.  And then nothing.

It just looks like it was made 30 years ago and then forgotten about.

WHY? after my experience at the Plaza... WHY did I come back here?

Because my car was parked here. And I had a $20 food comp. And we were hungry.

Basically the incompetence of the people at the restaurant seriously can't be illuminated. Bottom line? you can't have a ham and brie sandwich. Although there is both grilled brie and ham on the menu. Of course it took 3 different mis-fires to realize this. The manager was rude. My fiance was done eating. I still had no food. I got it to go. Just brie, no ham.

It's a shame, because the fries were pretty good.

The room I was in was so sick.  The bedroom had mirrors above the bed and that seemed pretty cool.  The bathroom was sleek.  The toilet even had controlled buttons to wash your behind haha....
The living area had a nice dinner table along with a nice big flat screen.  And when you look outside the window I saw The Showboat.  Great view let me tell ya.

So far the place looks run down on the outside and the Sony Bravias they brag about on their website pull in a terrible picture. I wonder if the Chairman Tower tvs are in HD? We couldn't pull up a wifi signal in the room either. I hope they get me the room with a view of the ocean I requested. Look for my update(s).

Thank you front desk.

While I didn't stay at the hotel, I did come here for some gambling. Just walking up to the casino made me smile. It was pretty much everything I was expecting. A little rundown, gaudy, smokey. Seriously, what do you expect? The casino was nothing different than any other regular casino I've been to (not the Borgata or anything though). However, they did have OTB (off track betting) that my friends wanted to do. It was a little confusing at first, but the bet-takers (is that what they're called) and even some of the other patrons, were very helpful in explaining the process. They are the only casino that I know of there that has OTB too.

About what you'd expect from Donald Trump and New Jersey.  Big and tacky as hell, with a crowd that could only have come from South Jersey.  Oh well, at least my room in the Chairman's Tower was nice, if ridiculously overpriced  Was looking forward to some time in the swimming pool, but it's indoors.  WTF?

Too many people are adverse to Trump himself; this is his casino, so that's what I'll stick to reviewing.

I've played a few hours of poker and blackjack here on a few trips, and while the service is pleasant, it's scarce at times. Tables go up in limit at night rather quickly, so you often find yourself wandering away to other pursuits that you can afford if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

The place has stayed opulent in a kind of degenerating spiral downwards... and as you can compare with the Borgata, so has the crowd, in my opinion. There are still lines for the buffets, and people still crowd the building, but I find it's less of a draw then when I came almost ten years ago.

Lower quality patrons, but the machines pay off.   Sit at a slot machine, take in the second hand smoke, and just start pushing buttons. you are bound to win some money.

Have been here on a couple of weekends... big playing space with hundreds of slot machines, poker tables and stuff... Am not a high roller, so usually I stick to 25c, 50c, double diamond slot machines on the extreme right... good thing is alcohol is permitted but no smoking...a nice place for some weekend fun... forget your worries and enjoy... explore the boardwalk on sunny afternoons and try out your luck in the nite...

Played slots here for a little while...

It's cleaner and more modern than other casinos I've been to in AC. There a bunch of decent restaurants in here and a club/lounge as well. Supposedly Rim Noodle Bar is pretty good. If I got to AC again, I'd hit up one of their restaurants.

The staff was extremely helpful all over.

The Trump Taj Mahal was great when they had everything in 1980s form.  What happened to the movie scenes from Rounders or Rainman???  No more gold-mirrors down that infamous 2-foot-wide escalator :-(  Their newly renovated, wannabe-contemporary style is just such a shocking transition.

One thing that will never change is Taj's Poker-Room.  They say that the souls of many poker legends still linger around there...  The real feel of poker is definitely here, folks.

If you want to come to Taj by yourself, then it has to be for poker.  Otherwise, just go to the Borgata.

Most MEMORABLE MOMENT: playing $2-$4 limit poker in the same chair for 15 hours; then going to the backseat of my old car to take a freezing-nap in the piss-smelling parking-garage at 11AM; then waiting for my brother and his wife to come down to play in the evening and pull another all-nighter... I broke-even for that weekend, and I also broke-a-ligament in my right butt-cheek from all that sitting with no breaks. My left cheek is fine, so at least I'm not a complete broke-ass, LMAO!

nerds? ... nerds! ... NERDS!!!!

The voice of Ogre screaming NERDS in Revenge of the Nerds went through my head when my friend suggested we go to Atlantic City for our fantasy baseball draft.  It seemed like a bit much to glorify our league that's been going on since 2nd year of law school.

But then I remembered that Atlantic City has gambling and alcohol.  And I like those things.  Plus we were able to get a suite and an adjoining rooms for about $100 a person on a Saturday night, so we made it happen.

Check in procedures were quick and painless with a very friendly staff.  We got up to the room and the suite was great.  Tons of space, flat screen TVs, two bathrooms, very nice.  On the other hand, I'm not sure the people who assigned us this room got the memo that a bunch of guys were going to watch sports and drink beer in this room.  We had a hot tub in the main bedroom (not in the main bathroom, IN THE BEDROOM) and a mirror over the bed.  The benefit of the hot tub was it made a great place to empty the 30 packs of beer for the night and bottles of gatorade for the next morning we brought with us.

I'll spare the details of the fantasy baseball drafting and skip to the gambling.  We noticed an empty $25 blackjack table and my buddy talked to the pit boss, who agreed that if at least 4 of us sat down, he'd knock it down to $15.  Good stuff.  Played there for a while with no problems (decent dealers, cool people, etc.) except, as others have mentioned, there was NOBODY to be seen to give us drinks.  I didn't really need much more alcohol, but the fact that we couldn't get service was pretty messed up.

When I was done with blackjack I took a quick try with craps for the first time.  If any game was meant to take me down the path to absolute financial ruin, it's this one.  Way too much fun for something that you can lose so much money at so quickly.  Wait staff was MUCH better in the craps area when it came to providing beverages.

After taking a break from the action in the room, I went back downstairs and hung out with a couple of the guys at a bar outside Casbah, the club attached to the casino.  It was close to 3am at this point so there was no way I was paying a cover to go in there, but I found a much more fun way to spend my time.  Just sit at the bar at the bottom of the escalator out of the club and watch the parade of Jersey drunken whores.  This is RIPE for a new gambling game.  You could bet on whether the girl has a giant tattoo on her back, or whether she'll stumble on the escalator, or whether one of the guys walking down will yell about wanting to fight somebody.  The possibilities are endless.

After that fun it was some more craps and then finally going to bed around 6am.  I had a great time at the Taj, but that was mostly because of my friends and the enjoyment of throwing money away, which explains the less than stellar ratings.  I'd go back, but I'd also probably look into other casinos too.

One last thing, if you're ever staying at the Taj and have a drink or seven too many, try not to need security's help finding your hotel room.  My buddy found out a couple weeks later that they tacked on an additional $35 charge on our room bill because one guy needed a little assistance (and it wasn't me).

We might have been nerds for having our fantasy baseball draft in AC, but we were nerds that had a damn good time doing it.

This review is in regards to the poker room, since that's my primary interaction with this casino.

The large room has definitely gone down hill.  The dealers are still great, and it takes some skill and perseverance to hand-shuffle so many rounds of play (unlike the newer places with electronic auto-shufflers).  However, the sheer number of tables - which in some respects is nice - creates the atmosphere of a volunteer firehouse poker tournament.  Chairs of players are bumping into each other, and the noise level is way too high.  Definitely not one of my favorite places to play cards, but if you're in the mood for some noisy action, you could check it out.
Warning: a high level of degenerates play here, not the classier crowds like the Borgata or Caesar's.  The atmosphere, accessibility and history of the Taj encourages the patronage of some really pathetic people.

Sad sad that  they are tearing it down..I started going here about eight years ago. I had just started working in nyc and was wet behind the ears.  After I pretty much lost my job, this was my home away from home-office manager suggested I go here lol.....
I have good memories mostly. I started feeding my gambling addiction and got my fortune told-you will be a failure....

I played a lot of blackjack and roulette. I admit that the whole place smells a little like piss but it is also comfortable. You can walk on the boardwalk to clear your mind and nose- call somebody. Well gone are those days.....They used to have a pats steaks place on the corner too.....was good to get before driving back to nyc/hoboken.

This is pretty strictly a blackjack review:

Six deckers outside of the high roller room are a thing of the past. Lucky Ladies bet now available, no thanks. Good game with 75-80 percent penetration, dealer dependent, throughout the casino. Some  have said that the Taj staff --- one floor woman in particular --- are a little paranoid. In the high roller room all games have $100 minimums. The crews have been universally pleasant in our experience.

Why anyone - ourselves included - would choose to come here when the environment is so much better at the Borgata is beyond me.  My friend and I were feeding the slots for a little while when a dude sat himself next to me and asked me whether I would give him some of my winnings.  Ha!  Sure, and I'll also name my first born after you, you freaking idiot.  While I was amused at how ghetto the Taj was, my friend was less than amused and called Security over to throw the guy out.  Less than five minutes later, the guy was back and he hit me up again.  I must not have taken the "SUCKER" sticker off my shirt before entering the Taj that night.

Anything with Trump's name on it has to suck.

There's enough lights bouncing off gold and mirrors here to completely blind you, and the slots couldn't be louder. Tables are always filled. About the only good thing is the extremely stupid security staff, so if you're looking to... *mumble* *mumble*...

I came to Trump's Taj on business.  Not to play blackjack, not to play poker, but for work.  I found the place hilarious.  My room was golden, decked out in animal print, or in some places (most notably the bedspread) both gold tone AND leopard print.  What a decor motif!  The TV cabinet had elephants painted on it for an equally tacky touch.

Another nice aspect of the ol' Taj is that you are hard-pressed to buy anything without the Donald's face on it.  For instance, I purchased a ($3!) bottle of water at the noodle bar downstairs (decent soup btw) called "TRUMP ICE."  Donald sort of scowls on the label, looking serious, and with much more hair than he has in real life.  Only "Trump Ice," and no other brands of bottled water are available at the Taj.

Even with all these "amenities," the Taj leaves something to be desired.  It fulfilled my unexplored, unknown, and previously unmet need for A.C. cheesiness.  It did not fulfill my need for caffeine (no Starbucks yet), nor my need for quiet - the walls are thin.  Perhaps, as anyone would suspect, this hotel is better suited to pleasure than business travel.

Had to stay here for a conference and boy this place is so ugly. haha. the room was so old looking and the color was so beige-y. i guess im used to the beautiful vibrant boutique hotels. anyway, the service at the front desk was average. they took awhile to bring my boxes up to my room and they weren't that pleasant to deal with, especially when i asked them to get me another room away from the elevators. the only plus about this place is i won $160 bucks at the blackjack table.
oh, the most annoying thing about this hotel was Trump's recording over the PC. It repeats every 5 minutes or something. Arggg.

When residents voted to convert Atlantic City into a gambling mecca, their support was based on the promise of renovation and rejuvenation of the fading seaside resort that had fallen on hard times. Some thirty years later, many of the streets beyond the boardwalk continue to contain rows of rundown tenements, and the boardwalk still is littered with tacky souvenir shops and salt water taffy stands. Between them rise massive casino hotels, among them this homage to the truly tasteless. Anyone who has seen photos of Trump's many homes knows he prescribes to the theory that far too much is never enough, so his Taj does not remotely resemble the work of art in Agra. Instead, it's an explosion of gilded glitz, with minarets and carved stone elephants and the more traditional flashing lights and incessant noise of 5000-plus slot machines abounding throughout the public areas. Oddly, the guest rooms resemble those in an average Days Inn. Personally, I wouldn't have stayed here had I not been with a high roller whose stay was comped, not because of any great aversion to the property itself, but rather to the man who built it and all he represents.

Besides Mr. Peanut, this is/was the main staple of the boardwalk.  It looks pretty ok at night, but you come here because of it's history.  A lil expensive, as it is a 5 buck minimum to start playing the slots.

sometimes they give $100 for a promotion if you sign up to be a member. that's only for people that likes to play the slots. you  would have to use your own money with the card and play up to $100 and in a week they will put the money in the card and then you will need to go back to redeem it.
