Le Petit Hardware Store. Makes me miss the McLendon's that was nearby my old place. Friendly knowledgeable people who don't hide in the stock room or take calls on their obnoxious intercoms while you're asking them a question (ahem, big box stores). Nobody here has ever said said to me, "everything we have is on the floor, if you can't find it that means we don't have it". Never. They routinely climb up on the ladders to rummage through their totes of stock to try to find what you're looking for.
Of course this place doesn't have everything under the sun, it's your friendly neighborhood True Value and that's the point. It's there when you are in the middle of a project and run out of nails. You go here if you discover your cat chewed through your extension cord. And you especially buy here if you support local small business.
Typically when I walk into a hardware store I'm treated one of two ways. The first, an idiot because I am a girl. And since I am a girl, I must have NO idea what I'm doing - and need to be talked to like a 2 year old. The second, I get ignored.
This place did neither! I went in looking for bug spray and I was crossing my fingers they had it since I didn't want to drive very far to get it. They were very nice, and explained all the differences between the three types of spray they carried (don't ask why I needed it).
Anyway, the store is small, parking is limited, but I think that is the way they wanted it to be. I like the feel of it, very mom and pop. The selection isn't huge, but enough for a DIY project on a whim. Also, affordable for this type of place.
Amazing service! I dropped into this hardware store sight unseen with a couple of friends on our way to the airport with hardly a minute to spare. We needed help in designing a tube or shipping container to get a fairly valuable kayak paddle home to SF on the plane. The store manager, Dave, (possibly the owner, I'm not sure) didn't have the pvc pipe that we were hoping would help, but he went into the back and found some long rectangular cardboard boxes he had and gave us an idea for fixing it and he turned us onto all the duct tape, packaging tape, scizzors, exacto lknife and labels as well as giving us loads of floor space to perform the operation. He was totally kind and when I offered to pay him for the services, he flatly refused! How great is that?!?!!! What a guy! I don't live in Seattle but if I did that would be my headquarters!! Check them out. He saved me up to $100 in shipping charges. I'm forever grateful!
Hardware stores are like toilet paper, you always need it. So much for my analogue. Errhhh....
I have been to this True Value several times. This location doesn't have everything. And they have items, I'd never expect, such as cleaning, housewares and gardening supplies. We all need that stuff too. So, I won't speak about the limited spacing. Mmmhhhhh.
Well, this True Value is tucked away in residential Queen Anne, as if they don't want anyone to find them. Maybe, they're just running highway snobbery. It may not matter, since I know exactly where they can be found. And the employees are always so very helpful. It is a good place. Yeah!
I had a very unpleasant experience here. I thought since this was a small neigborhood establishment it would have mom and pop feel with friendly attentive service. Quite the opposite. I had a simple question and was treated with rudness and looked at like I was a complete moron. I would rather drive all the way to SODO Homedepot than go back to this store.
Thank you True Value for not having to make me drive 10+ miles out of my way to buy tools, light bulbs, and other knick knackery I would need to find at a big-box retailer. Yes, it's a small location tucked away in a side-street -- but guess what? The Queen Anne location doesn't translate into Queen Anne pricing (unlike its neighboring shops). For things like picture frame nails, light bulbs, paints, tapes, etc. the prices were comparable to Lowes, Home Depot etc. which I appreciated.
This is a wonderful, no hassle hardware store. Lots of nuts and bolts for that saturday project. Always pleasant service. They have tools, some home and gardening supplies, and can cut you a new car or house key in a jiffy! A much better alternative to the Ace Hardware on Queen Anne Ave, and a worthy substitute when you don't want to make the drive all the way to Home Depot.
Your standard True Value. Great customer service, friendly and knowledgeable staff. A good range of parts for the large majority of the jobs most people do. Prices that are slightly larger then the mega hardware stores.
