A meal is an hour or so, a way to gain nourishment and maybe spend some time with family or friends. Naturally, it is also something you do two or three times a day. So, a less than perfect meal will not not ruin your week or month and will not cost you too much. A less than perfect move, however, could have greater repercussions. If there is one solid reason why I am grateful for Yelp, it is for leading me to high quality businesses such as My Truck Buddy.
For me, organizing, culling and packing were incredibly time consuming and pretty painful. Dealing with Chris and the actual move day were not at all painful - they were actually pleasant.
Chris is super friendly and concerned with getting the job done well and quickly. When they were a bit delayed due to traffic, Chris called me to let me know. They ended up being only 9 minutes late. He and Brett were very efficient, pleasant and even funny at times. The prices are very reasonable, and I really cannot say enough good things about this company.
If you are doing a 1 or 2 bedroom move, I highly recommend My Truck Buddy.
Chris was very helpful and answered all of my questions about the move. In addition, he was happy to accomodate our move a little farther out of the city than normal and the giant couch his guys had to carry down the staires.
I hate moving, but Chris made this move painless and maybe even a little fun. In addition, their price was more than reasonable. When your making a move, MyTruckBuddy should be your first and only call.
Thank you to Chris and Ben for my super-smooth move this weekend! I went to Chris' website and booked my moving date, and Chris confirmed via email. They were a little late on moving day, but on this I give a little leeway since it was 9/11 and the traffic was pretty horrendous.
They took apart and put together my bed, which is an infuriating piece of machinery (it lifts up on a hinge to allow for storage underneath). Chris put it back together even without instructions. He was visibly frustrated, but didn't complain.
If you have a larger move, he can rent a moving truck for a low fee - especially if someone else has booked something on the same day, the truck rental fee is split between the 2 jobs. My previous moves had been outrageously expensive - over $600 to move a studio apartment. Chris has a flat hourly rate - even with my infuriating bed, the 4-hour move cost under $350. An amazing deal considering the amount of work they actually did. I'll definitely be using My Truck Bud again for my next move!
This may, indeed, be one of the most well deserved five star streaks on Yelp. When it comes to labor, you generally get what you pay for. You can forget about that maxim with my Truck Buddy where you'll be getting a lot more.
The Story:
Though my lease had a week left, my 'relocube' was half-packed and my building was making it clear that the metal pod had over-extended its stay at Casa de Loading Dock and needed to be out by that evening. I was dead on my feet from days of packing and needed professional help pronto, within hours, and at a price point my deflated wallet could afford. Enter Chris and My Truck Buddy.
The Service:
I called Chris around 11am. He assured me he'd 'make it work'. Within a couple hours he'd arranged for himself and another guy to arrive at 7pm for just $70 an hour. The men arrived - on time - and surveyed the situation. TONS of small boxes and oddly shaped items (an antique chair, Turkish lanterns, curtain rods) piled up in the hallway. And it ALL had to fit neatly into a 6 x 7 x 9 cube, as a 2nd cube would cost an extra thousand (that's right, baby - 10 Benjamins!). Oh and then there's my IKEA bed, whose frame mocked my pathetic efforts to disassemble it (yes, I now own my very own metric hex tool, thanks). Chris chose to regard this disaster as 'an exciting challenge.' That's not exactly what I was calling it...
Roughly 1.75 hours later.
Bed disassembled? Check. Only one 'Relocube' filled? Check. Space to spare? Check (I suspect Newtonian laws of physics were suspended to make this happen). All boxes neatly secured with rope and thoughtful packing for a 3000 mile bumpy ride? Check. Good humour and politeness the entire time? Check Check!
Total Cost: $105.00 - the clock doesn't start the second they arrive but rather when they start lifting boxes.

Oh and yes, they totally accept tips :).
Can I give 6 stars? Chris is a stellar mover. On time, efficient, super friendly (he really is your friend with a truck). The prices are lower than what you would pay if you actually had a friend with a truck (so I tipped accordingly) -- he charged me less than half what one competitor estimated. Didn't mind when I sprung an additional item on him at the last minute. This move could have been a nightmare -- have you ever tried to fit a cumbersome futon over a row house banister? -- but was instead a breeze.
Thank you Yelp for helping me find this company! Chris and his assistant Brett were AMAZING! They were prompt, FAST and very professional. I've moved several times in DC and have hired a few different moving companies and My Truck Buddy goes above and beyond to make moving - a very stressful situation in and of itself - go smoothly and seem effortless! I highly, highly recommend Chris & his team, they're pleasant, funny, courteous and highly professional.
This was by far and away the best move that I've done. Chris was on time and had the truck loaded up quickly and I was moved into my new place by lunch. Chris' vast knowledge about all things Ikea was especially impressive and came in handy when putting my bed back together.
If you have a move that doesn't require moving more than Uhaul's worth of stuff, My Truck Buddy is definitely the way to go. I've already recommended it to all of my friends.
These guys were AWESOME. Not only were they reasonably priced, they were fun to be around and helped made what could have been a very painful move almost enjoyable.
I just used Chris and My Truck Buddy this weekend and they were great and super cheap! You cant go wrong with $60/hr for two movers! Seriously, if you are like me and just moving a miles away and only have a few apartment items this is the way to go. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They are super quick, cool and not douchey. Best of luck to them, I will totally use them in the future.
