My first visit to the Trout Farm Inn was a most fascinating experience. The place feels like a hunting lodge of yesteryear complete with the mounted head of a buck. The ambiance was warm and inviting. Where I was seated I had a view of the pool and the beautiful wooded surroundings.
The staff was very friendly and I was served promptly.
I ordered the Black Bean Veggie Patty: Grilled and served on a ciabatta roll with lettuce and tomatoes with added swiss cheese. The patty was surprising tasty with just the right amount of spices; the lettuce and tomatoes were crisp and fresh, the fancy herb ciabatta roll flavor was bit over powering and the texture dry. Note to self: next time order it on a toasted bun. I also ordered french frys, which were served with just the right amount of salt and pepper.
I heard from a friend they have Karaoke on Thursday nights!
Overall my experience was very good, and I could imagine it would be fun to visit this place on a Friday night. If you find yourself in the area, maybe visiting Loch Lomond, do yourself a favor and drop in at the neo-rustic Trout Farm Inn. -

Whatever you THOUGHT you knew about the Trout Farm, forget it. The pool and nostalgia of the location is still there...but everything here now is bettern than any other owner has accomplished in these last many years of the establishment changing hands.
Food = delicious and affordable (especially locals' night deals)
Location = can't get better - feels like vacation but not too far away
Owners/staff = awesome, friendly, really wanna make you feel welcome
Ambiance = comfortable yet well served
Pool = pristine and fun
This place is cleaned and spruced upnicely, complete with a totally new positive attitude and happy family-friendly vibe. You MUST try the salmon and rice pilaf dinner (perfection), and being from Buffalo I feel totally qualified to tell you that you won't find better Buffalo wings in California.
Now, some things are better left to what people are used to -- so of course there's still a friendly full bar, happy hour specials, and Monday Night football specials too. The bar also has upgraded drink choices and great local wines. And music...yep, still there, and better than ever! Watch for the evolving musical line up...it's changing while the new owners figure out what the local (and visiting) crowd wants to see. Singer songwriter showcases during the week, great bands on the weekend, and of course the staple of karaoke for the Thursday night crowd. All are done with great sound and room to dance.
Shedding the old stigmas of whatever this has been in the past will take word of mouth, so pass it around, you MUST rediscover the Trout Farm Inn!!
(Halloween and New Year's Eve shin-digs at this place were a BLAST!!!!!!!). Talk about a fun vibe....wooo and HOOOOOO! :) Can't wait to see what this summer brings at the Trout Farm! -

I should note that the Trout Farm Inn is under new ownership since June 2011. Any review before then (bad or good) is not relevant to the current Trout Farm Inn. It has changed.
It still has swimming available at the pool during summer, it still has live music, and still at the same location.
The wine list is now all local wines and the menu has changed a bit. This time, I tried the chicken sandwich and my friend tried the buffalo chicken wings. She said they are the best she has ever tasted. They serve it with carrots and celery. I tried the chicken sandwich and it was a pleasant surprise. There was so much food in the sandwich, it was a challenge to keep it in the bun. All the sandwiches come with a spear pickle and fries are optional. The fries are spicy.
On the full dinners, I have only tried the tri-tip with mashed potatoes with gravy; and buttery carrots. It is as good as it sounds.
Previously I have tried some of the different variety of burgers. They are larger than what I find elsewhere and this is now my favorite place for a burger. During the summer --day time-- there is a snack shack near the swimming pool area. You can get burgers, hot dogs and fries there. The burgers at the snack shack are smaller and less expensive.
The crew is friendly, the entertainment is fun and as long as the food is as good as it is, I shall return. -

Pleasantly Surprised! I had been to the Trout Farm Inn before the ownership changed, and had never considered coming back. Since the change in ownership, I have been back twice! The family is super friendly and fun to chat with, and the atmosphere has completely changed. The restaurant is clean, the menu is fresh, and the events are fun and family friendly! I enjoy visiting this venue so much now. I'm so thankful that they ownership has changed and they have tried so hard to keep it a family friendly environment!

First off, this Yelp review site is not too fair for this business, as it was taken over in the last year and REALLY cleaned up. All the old (and bad) reviews are before that. I have gone in a couple times recently, and had excellent experiences.
Staff: All family, and really kind. Warm and welcoming. You get a SMILE as soon as you walk in, until you leave. All the ladies that work the bar are sisters and look clean, which is really important in high-end dining. They know their beers and wines, they can talk knowledgably about it.
Food: I am a salad eater, so I am not reviewing other offerings. But the two salads I had were wonderfully fresh. The veggies were crisp and clean, thoughtfully arranged on the plate. Dressings were good and cold.
Wine: I do like my wine, and they had nice stuff. The times I went in, there were different local options which was a treat.
Venue: Nicely updated, warm, clean. Big TV above bar with sports. Best mix of music playing I have ever had in a restaurant.
These people are in it to win. I cannot say enough nice things and I look forward to each visit. -

OMG. thank you so much. New owners are wonderful. You guys are awesome last night for reconordering our appetizer so we can have a sampler of different things. The food was superb. Tri-Tip roast was very mouth watering. Good wines, not alot to choose from which to me is great. Local wines too. I have been coming here for 13+ years and finally dinners are back with great quality of food. The service was excellent. I forget her name, but she was the older daughter of the owner. I think this place will finally go somewhere again!! Yahoo. They have bands that play on weekends as well as the pool in the summer for swimming. I've always loved this little hidden gem in our mtns. Cheers!!

We've lived in the neighborhood of the trout farm for many years, and have seen it change hands many times. We knew that it changed ownership again (not sure how long ago) but we decided to go for dinner (on a tues. night). In a word, it was excellent. All the food we tried was expertly prepared, and the service was wonderful. Great wine list too. I was very pleasantly surprised, and i feel that the dinners here are better than they have ever been. The skirt steak and fettucini was absolutely wonderful, and the salmon was perfect. We will definitely be back.

When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Who the fuck ever came up with that saying anyway? Well, I like my lemonade with a healthy splash of Jack Daniels, and luckily that's how Roseanne at the Trout Farm Inn makes 'em.
I wanted to go for a hike at Loch Lomond. So we get all the way up there, ignoring the signs along the way saying it was closed for the season. Season?? This IS California, right? How can you close hiking trails? Well, they did. There was nowhere to park. We couldn't hop the fence. So we started to head back.
And that's when we saw this place - and the sign. "Fresh Seafood, Cocktails, Fishing, Swimming Pool". All on the side of the road in a tiny town. Heaven, for me. We walk in and are greeted by Roseanne. I told her we wanted to sit outside by the pool and she said fine, but there was no waitstaff, so we'd have to order from her and she'd bring it out when she had a chance. No problem. We ended up sitting on the back deck instead and Roseanne waited on us.
It feels like you're in another world back here - it's kind of reminiscent of The Bayou with Spanish moss hanging down from the trees, the creek running out back and the fishing hole. We got oysters - fresh, delicious, served with a perfect cocktail sauce. And then the three of us split a perfectly cooked charbroiled lobster tail as well as trout almondine, which was very fresh. The sauteed vegetables that were served with each dish were perfect too. I didn't eat any of the french fries, but my friends enjoyed them. The mashed potatoes were really good too - I like them lumpy and these fit the bill. The salads that we got were also really fresh. The dressing choices are limited, but it's so fresh that you really don't even care. The waitress came on duty about half way through our meal and her service was nowhere near as good as Roseanne's, but she was competent enough.
Sunday is the big day at the Trout Farm Inn, apparently. They have karaoke from 4-8. These people do not fuck around, I'll tell you that much for free. Some of the best renditions of Roberta Flack, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Roy Orbison and Kenny Rogers songs can be heard at this bar's karaoke night. And the people in here are real characters - very welcoming, very helpful, and very interesting. My favorite was S.O.B. - Sweet Old Bob. Sweet Old Bob has the voice of an angel and I complimented him after he sang. He asked if I was going to sing and I said no, my singing sounds like cats dying in a blender. And the following conversation ensued:
SOB: Do you sing in the car?
ME: Sure
SOB: Do you sing in the shower?
ME: Yeah
SOB: So get up there and pretend you're in the shower and take your clothes off. I promise I'll clap.
ME: I bet you would, Bob!
I fucking love this place and all the people in there. You probably won't find many reasons to make your way out there, but if you do, you won't be sorry.Listed in: Day Tripper, My Favorite Dive Bars

Beautiful, beautiful place. Huge pool -- and baby pool, also --harkening to country club days, generous deck and rest / changing rooms surrounded by oak trees and bordered by a babbling creek...
To go to the pool and loll around all day promises a wonderful day spent in a lovely place. It's big enough and far enough from the bar to be a great activity -- with kids, too. I definitely recommend Trout Farm for this wonderful activity.
Just avoid hoping the restaurant food might be good -- I have attempted to eat there a few times and it's never been decent, and it's always been expensive. I also believe that if you're going to enjoy the pool & grounds, you must buy the food offered there (hot dogs, hamburgers), and are not allowed to bring any of your own in with you. One can always sneak things in within a big bag.
Unfortunately, I imagine that this place makes its money from the bar. Nightly, there are many cars filling the parking lot at happy hour, and teetering people come and go.
Always different owners, or so it seems, mediocre food at inflated prices, Trout Farm is never known for its great cuisine, nor bargains.
However, should you want to go to a place that pours out drunken partiers, it's for you.
Recently, a local was there, with his baby (so appropriate). He left. drunk out of his mind. He drove his truck speedily and head-on into a man -- the sole breadwinner for his family -- coming down the hill with his wife. Killed him. The criminal got out of his truck, with the baby, and on looking at the scene, said, "Wow," walked back to his truck, and drove away. The wife sat with her dying and pinned-in husband without help.
When I think about Trout Farm, I think about this kind of drinking, and wonder when the next accident will be. -

The best thing I can say is what I didn't need:A-1, salt or pepper. It was perfect the people are nice and everything is seasoned just perfectly, Salmon with the tequila lime sauce is just wonderful. The steak with the mushroom sauce is real dining not just eating. The mash potatoes come with the best gravy ever better than grandma's southern gravy. Left full and happy. If you knew me youd know I salt everything, but here there is so much flavor you dont need anything but a fork knife and a napkin!

So you only know about this place for two reasons really, its on the way to Loch Lomond or you live in Lompico/ Felton.
I found the food to be a bit pricey for where the place was located (middle of no where) but in fact did find that my dinner was rather tasty. It wasn't the best food I've tasted but the seasoning was good and the sauce on my chicken dish was perfect. The wine list was ok and pretty reasonable.
Though out waitress was sooo young, wearing converse and couldn't recommend foor nor liqour, she was sweet though without knowledge.
It was a surprising visit to a place I said I would always go to while living in Lompico for a year.
If you go, you might feel the same way, or love it! Great locals place and they have events though I've never gone to any. -

This place is a unique & awesome adventure!
We came here with eleven hungry people after an excellent hike in Quail Hollow. It was a gorgeous evening and we asked if we could sit out on the deck. They were wonderfully accommodating. -- We ordered drinks and quite a wide range of good food. (very large portions too!) There was a cool Reggae band playing, and we stayed to dance & play pool the rest of the night. What a delight!
If you go during the day, you can swim in the pool for a small fee.
Maybe sometime soon they will be able to upgrade the bridge to the trout pond where folks used to fish for their supper!
Karaoke on Saturday nights! -

We recently moved to the area and were in desperate need of good, local, and inexpensive dining. I`m happy to report that we found two of those three at Trout Farm Inn. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, even taking some time out of her busy shift to fill us in on the history of the place. The outdoor pool (full-size, open to the public for $5, and staffed by a lifeguard) was a unique addition to an otherwise fairly typical burger establishment.
The menu left a lot to be desired, unless you like "fries with that". It's a step above Denny's, but with a very sparse menu. I figured that at a place with "Trout" in the name, that we would be getting some fantastic local seafood, but alas, the only fish on the menu was dipped in batter, deep fried and served with, yes, fries.
The beer selection was equally sparse, so if any of you are micro-brew, local brew, (or anything not out of AH, or Coors) fanatics, it would be best to order the Fat Tire on tap and not ask for the drink menu.
The interesting thing about this place is its potential. They need LOTS of local brews, organic produce for salads and appetizers, and WAY less fried foods. The location, and views are great -- under the new owners we may have yet to see what they can do. And please pull the ketchup off the tables. :) -

No trout, No farm, No inn. They have a new chef, but he wasn't there that night. The menu looked like it would appeal to the Lompico crowd, but many of the things that were on the menu weren't available because of a sub cook.
I can't recommend the place (at least indoors) for kids. There is inadequate separation between the bar/pool table area and the dining room. There were unemptied ashtrays outside on the deck. The deck has a lovely view unless you look over the deck to see beer bottles, cups, napkins littering the Zyante creek watershed.
The place smelled like a combination of dirty mop water and stale cigarettes.
Out order was wrong, wrong, wrong. . . . to the point where we had to laugh. We had to ask for our check and hunt down someone to take our money. It's been there since 1947, but it seemed like it was the first day of brand new establishment.
Locals love the swimming pool, burgers and dogs . . . and maybe on a hot summer days we'll give it another try. Or a Friday night when the regular (new) chef is working.
Psst! Owners! Want a hint. Hire a good Gay decorator, cuz the place is looking sad. Christmas tinsel, plastic ivy and Christmas lights does not equal decor. -
