CAMPGROUND CLOSED.
As noted by Maria C, this is an excellent campground, one of my favorites. However it is unreachable due to severe damage to the Index-Galena Road in 2006. As of mid-2009 they are still years away from completing repairs.

Best camping in the woods and on a river for families. A short and very well maintained trail through the woods and over Troublesome Creek on a footbridge built on logs - very cool, and thank you Boy Scouts. Our campsite was steps away from the North Fork Skykomish River and listening to it rush and roar and gurgle every night was hypnotic and a much needed break from city noises. Lots of rocks to climb on, lots of peace and quiet and an extremely well maintained campground. Smokey Bear paid a visit, which the little kids loved - though my teenagers were much to cool to admit they liked. This place is about 10 miles past Index, up in the mountains and woods, but still less than 2 hours from Seattle. Great place to pitch a tent if you don't feel like backpacking away from it all, but still want to get away from it all. Better do it in the summer though, this place is closed in winter.
