I came to Trophy's not too long ago to watch the Laker's game. To be honest, I wasn't too sure if it was still there, cause it'd been years since I had been there, and the one in Grossmont Center no longer existed. But... it was.

I walked in, the hostess pointed me towards the bar, and I walked on over to meet up with my buddy. I had just gotten back from my weekend in Vegas, so I was trying to take it easy on the drinking. And, surprisingly, I was able to watch the entire game without drinking one beer. As a man, I'm not sure wether or not I should be proud of that.

The place was pretty empty at first, but more & more people started showing up once the game started. The staff was friendly, the food looked good (my buddy ordered a bbq pizza), and they have pretty decent happy hour specials. It's not a bad place to go when you just wanna relax and watch a game. The only thing that really bothered me, was the television setup at the bar, they have some big screen hdtv's and some regular small screen tv's. And they must have been on different feeds because the hdtv's were a few seconds slower than the others. So, it was kinda distracting because I kept wanting to watch the small tv's cause they were faster, but the big screens looked so much better. Whatever though, no big deal....

I have eaten here only once, nothing to write home about, but when I read the story about the waitress getting fired for not wearing makeup, well...let's just say I felt compelled to add to the fury here on Yelp.

I get that it's OK according to the law. But laws sometimes gotta change. And sometimes people like me gotta cross Trophy's off their list of acceptable places to watch sports or catch a brew.

Boycott, I say. If there were a half-star, I'd give it.

The sign outside says "Trophys" but on the menu it says (in small text) "Trophys" but (in large text) "ALL AMERICAN GRILL".

Are you "ALL AMERICAN KIDDING ME?"

We used to eat here years ago when service was much better and the food was better prepared. Also, the prices were much cheaper too.

I mean, c'mon, $12  for a burger? I get a better burger at Red Robin for 4 bucks less and the steak fries are bottomless!

Service was SLOW. I mean, I can bake a cake and eat it before our food would arrive.

Our server was nice but not properly trained nor efficient. During our 40 minute wait for food arrival, she never checked on us, once.

Of course we complained, first to the girl up front (because the server was scarce and non attentive) then to the manager.

We got 3/4 of our bill comped because my kids were very hungry and we wanted to leave. I felt terrible for them because they had to face this ordeal.

In the end all we got was an apology, a handshake, a dry burger (had to ask for ketchup and mustard) and a comp on our bill.

"All American Grill" was an "All American Disappointment".

Gordon Ramsay should pay a visit and fix this place up. Seriously.

Otherwise.... avoid.

I was down in SD on Sunday and guess where I didn't eat?
I too will not support any business that would terminate an employee for refusing to wear makeup, and I encourage others to stay away.
Hope Mark Oliver feels the recession where it hurts. ASS CLOWN!

Wow - this place used to be pretty okay.  We decided to go there today on our way home from the auto show downtown.  Thought it would be a good spot to watch a bowl game and have an early dinner.  Instead, I was reminded as to why we never eat here anymore.

The place was absolutely dead - there was only one other table going in the place and we got LOUSY service.  They sat us overlooking the kitchen which was completely trashed.  With the entire place empty, I couldn't figure out if I was more perplexed by why they sat us there or why the kitchen was trashed.  Hmmm.

Our server was nice enough, although scarce, but she was clearly not schooled on the finer points of service.  My husband asked her a question about the soup and she kind of just shrugged "I don't know" in response.  I ordered the soup regardless and it was terrible.  It clearly had been sitting around for a bit and was the consistency of thick pudding.  It was supposed to have artichoke hearts in it but instead had the tough fiberous outer layers and I ended up fishing these out of my mouth before giving up altogether.  Eww.

The kicker was my husband's dinner - he got soup and half a pastrami sandwich.  He went to take a bite of the sandwich and stopped because of the smell.  Took the sandwich apart to see that the meat had oxidized (think rainbow meat) and the smell gave its age away.  We brought it to the server's attention who again gave us that shrug.  She was nice enough to come back and tell us that the manager would comp a dessert if we wanted it.  The place is dead - there's only one other table and the manager can't bother to come over to the table and talk to us?  He was too busy kicking it with the staff who were all standing around talking crap in the kitchen, in earshot of where we were sitting.

$52 later, we have now officially crossed this place off our list.  They have some serious issues with their food and service.  Clearly they've got management issues.  What kind of sports bar sits empty on one of the biggest college football days ever?  This place sucks.

I always get very sad when I enter Trophy's and take a look at the hat proclaiming the Chargers Super Bowl XXIX champions. Ouch. That's a wound that will never shut, so I don't need salt thrown in it. And salt is bad for you, so double negative.

The food here is only okay, and it is terribly overpriced. Trophy's is very low on my list of places to go to for eating and watching sports. I don't mind the occasional trip to Trophy's but I'd rather be somewhere else usually.

Never, ever support a business that blatently discriminates. The owner fired a waitress for refusing to wear make-up. The courts may not think this is discrimination, but Trophy's former customers do! I hope people reconsider going here. Ever.

This place is a joke and a rip-off. I dont really know how to categorize it. Its way more expensive than an Applebees and serves worse food

I would actually prefer Applebees over this joint and that says alot. They both happen to be in the same shopping center

I had a friend that used to work here but she quit because she told me that her manager kept on harassing her and would not stop asking her out. Hello, hostile work environment. Lawsuits.

Those commercials that they used to air made me cringe. How much money were those  patrons paid to praise this place ? Were they real customers or actors?

That spot in the commercial where this nerdy Asian dude kept on nodding his nerdy head as he proclaimed that Trophy has the best food is hilarious.

What planet is he from ? Obviously a planet thats been feeding him shit for his entire miserable life. Or maybe hes from mira mesa. Who knows. Hes an idiot with deformed taste buds.

2 stars for having a full bar.

It had been quite a while since I'd been to Trophy's. The last time was at their previous downtown location, during baseball season, when I chalked their terrible service up to a pre-game rush. Yesterday, after dropping a package off at FedEx in Hazard Center, I found myself with about 40 minutes to kill and a growling belly. I figured that I'd drop into Trophy's and grab a bite.

Before I get to specifics, I'll share one of a handful of "acid tests" for an early indication of a dining experience: "the welcome". It's not 100%, but my experience is that, more often than not, if you're not welcomed by someone (a host/ess, passing server, busser, manager) when you enter a dining establishment, it's a pretty good indication that the joint hasn't set the bar real high when it comes to quality service. Such is the case at Trophy's.

Walked right by an empty host stand, (where two servers were chatting it up, but apparently completely unaware of my entrance), and to the bar area. As a former bartender, I've got a soft spot for bar service, and my optimism got the best of me as I found an empty seat at the bar. The bartender eventually broke away from a karaoke-related story he was having with a server at the service well, and asked me for an order. I ordered a pint of beer, and requested a menu. Easy enough.

My second mistake was ordering a chicken Caesar salad, which while it was delivered in almost no time, was pretty ridiculously overpriced for the quality (regretfully, I had not read Jay's previous post, or I would  had cut my losses).

With the exception of slipping my bill in a shot glass in the peanut rail in front of me, that was the last interaction I had with the bartender, who sluggishly went about his duties of pouring sodas for waitresses while chatting them up about their post-shift plans.

On a positive note, they've got plenty of trophies (not surprisingly, none of them are for quality food or service.)

If you're in the mood for mediocre food that's way over priced, Trophy's take the trophy! There is only 2 good things about this place: there is always parking and the few times we have been here, we have never had to wait to get seating....hmmmm.

I'm hesitant to write a review b/c i'm embarrassed that I even came here in the first place.

The food is below average and the wait staff/hostess/bartenders are the kind that think its a chore that you walked into their restaurant and put forth minimal effort.  Oh yeah and its overpriced. 4 dollars for a miller light?

Well, we came into watch the charger game b/c we thought it was going to be too crowded elsewhere and tried to drink away our hang overs from the night before.

They should change the name to "Trophy's, we only have the pity ones that every player the team gets"

Horrible prices for mediocre food.
The Value Menu had the description: "Same great value, smaller portions."  Being still hungry from the regular menu's $10 french toast (which consisted of a measly 2 slices of bread), I almost choked on my glass of water while reading it.
The rest of the menu is even higher priced, with individual pizzas and pasta plates upwards of 15 dollars.  If I want to pay that much, I'll go somewhere that specializes in it.
The wait staff was nice and what little french toast I was given tasted decent, but for those prices, I can find better elsewhere.

I really like this place. It is family friendly ( we take our 15 mo old son) and the servers are always really nice and we have been there many times. I love their pizzas ( only served on F/Sa/Su which is kinda lame) but we have always enjoyed whatever we ordered.
And they offer a wide variety of food so if you are in a large group everybody can be happy.

One star for a good idea.  A spot to watch some sports, drink some beer, get your munch on.

Another star for the waitresses.  She was friendly, got the job done well, and didn't annoy the shit out of me by being some perky ditz.

The rest of the stars are missing though because this place took a good idea and executed it poorly.  The menu is extremely limited.  Can I get something besides a sandwich or appetizer?  The booths are tiny.  There's no room for 2 grown men on each side.  Looks like they made them intentionally small so they can fit more inside so I'm assuming this place gets crowded as hell on gameday.  Definitely not the spot to comfortably watch the game.

I went with the wife on a Friday night to watch the olympics and the place was damn near empty.  No sound from the TV, just some crappy tunes.  Well, maybe not crappy, but let's face it... there's a time and a place for RHCP, Kid Rock, and Stone Temple Pilots.  My friday night dinner is not the time or place.  I guess I'll go somewhere else next time.

I specifically signed up for Yelp just so I could let people know how disappointed my wife and I are with Trophy's.  I have lived in San Diego my entire life, but I haven't eaten here in years.  I guess I wasn't missing anything. We came here on Saturday before a movie and thank goodness we gave ourselves plenty of time.  The service was extremely slow.  At least the waiter was friendly and acknowledged that our order did take way too long.  The sad part is, the restaurant was only about 1/2 full, and it was during a Conference Final's game, so no excusses for the slow service.  To top it off, when our 11 dollar burgers finally arrived, they were over cooked.  Maybe if they took them off the grill earlier they would have tasted better and come to the table sooner.  This place has gone down hill and we won't be back.

Ah yes, Home of the Famous $16 Chicken Caesar Salad and the $10 Cheeseburger!  Where the #### do they get off charging what they charge for food???  This is really standard, corporate, soul-less, and completely uninspired food, so WHY do people actually pay that much for it??  I just don't get it....

Admittedly, my girlfriend and I had our first date at the UTC location, but we also ended up ridiculing how expensive it was for what we got.  The ambience is nice, I guess, and they will make you a decent drink for a price that is reasonable when compared to the food.  There are a lot of television sets as well.

Perhaps their happy hour is decent, but I will never go here for lunch or dinner again.

Cons-The food is overpriced. Who are you kidding with your $14.00 french dip? The entrees are, for the most part, pretty standard bar and grill fare. Don't even THINK about ordering the calamari here.
Pros- They make a good burger. The girls are hot. Well, most of them.

Happy hour is 4-7 monday-friday.
and you should never go.
we got the cheesy fries, quesadilla and au jus sliders.  They give you 4 miniscule sliders, 4 tiny pieces of quesadilla and greasy/hard fries with dried out cheese on top.  I could make the quesadilla at home and it would be 10 times the size.  the au jus sliders had mediocre meat on them and definetely more bread than anything else.  and i didn't even want to eat the fries but I had already bought them and was starving.  All their food is expensive and judging by their happy hour selections, BLAH.
heed this warning.  do not go.
oh yeah and weird, their prices are expensive even for happy hour.

I even went to his place twice, to TRY and give it a chance. But no such luck.  The first time I went  I ordered a cocktail, and they only carried "American tequila". That in itself was blasphemous, but it's an "American grill" so I'll cut them some slack. The salmon was pretty blah, and lacked flavor. The mashed potatoes that came with it were decent.  I tasted a ravioli and it was not al dente and only extra parmesan made it taste better. I did order one of their ice cream pies for dessert, which was actually pretty good. On my second trip here I went to the movie theatre at Hazard Center, and was limited to the restaurants within the shopping center. So off again to Trophy's.... I ordered their mixed green salad, and a side of macaroni and cheese. The salad was pretty bad, it looked shiny like it had vinagarette dressing on it, but it tasted like pure lettuce, and no flavor. I even order a side of blue cheese crumbles, in hopes that it would jazz up the salad, but it did not compliment or help the salad at all. The macaroni and cheese also an epic failure. They used a fusili pasta and what they claimed was "four cheese" sauce. Maybe they should have added a fifth cheese because I couldn't taste a single one. Pretty disapointing overall. I know some people love this place to watch sports and drink. Aside from this, maybe their is no other reason for this place to be open.

Trophy's serves its purpose, it is a good sports bar and resturaunt. This location is near the Qualcolm stadium so going here to watch a Charger game is the next best thing than actually going to the game.

But I really thought their menu had a lot to offer. Even though this is a
sporty place to eat, I thought there were actually a lot of healthy items to chose from. When I ate there I got the Caesar salad. It was not an exotic dish, but I thought it was pretty tasty. I wasn't that health conscious when I ate there because I splurged and got a dessert, and I can say that Trophy's has a great cheesecake and it is pretty light.

The only thing that is really offensive about this place is that the waitress's uniforms are pretty risque, and this eatery is advertised as being a family restaurant, but it is a sports bar and grill, no more, no less.

We went for happy hour on a Friday and the place wasn't too crowded and the prices were reasonable.  The 'bar baskets' were tasty but TINY portions (you need 3 to fill up).  I recommend the cheesy fries and the jalapeno poppers.

Overall, not a bad place for happy hour but it won't be in the regular rotation.

My boss gave me a gift card for this place for my birthday so my husband and I went here for lunch before we went to the Ultrastar movie theater.  My husband and I are not sports fanatics so we were only here for the food.  I had a turkey sandwich which was made from real turkey not that pressed crap and my husband had a salad and a hamburger.  The food was fine, but the place was filled with obnoxious folks who were watching five different sporting events on the restaurant's numerous amount of TV screens.  Our server was fine and I was amused by the fact that they have to write their names upside down on the paper table cloth.  I saw our waiter practicing his upside down name writing skills during his spare time.

Trophy's has a convenient location if you are staying at the Doubletree in San Diego MIssion Valley.
It is a nice sports bar divided into several smaller rooms to seat people depending on their interest in watching the numerous screens located throughout the building.
I would give this bar a two star rating if it were not for the "two drink" margaritas and the mud pie.
Dinner is a nice experience, the food is good.
Naturally, I ordered the burger - which was O.K. (they always are)
The waitress writes her name on the table for you.
The "two drink" margarita comes to your table in the shaker and you can pour your own glasses.
Very nice concept, and not to expensive.
The treat for the evening was the 5 inch piece of mud pie covered in nuts that we could share among all of us at the table.
Very tasty and a nice finish to the meal.
We had good service and a nice evening .....
This would be a fun place on Sundays when the Chargers are playing ...

pros...great place to hang out during a charger's game.  i went there today, after a long absence due to some bad food the last time (8 years ago).  but today was great, lots of people, lots of big t.v.s and great atmosphere for sports.  the service was pretty ok, we could have gotten faster refills on drinks but all in all it was pretty good.  parking was good too.

food was tasty, had the fire wings, potato skins with bacon and onion shavings, and chicken fingers and fries.  all good.  wings could have been hotter, but they were tasty.

cons...well we were sitting next to "superman", yes, an old guy in a superman uniform.  even had a red cape.  not that he was crazy or anything, but he sure did detract from the football game.  had he just kept an eye on the game, he might not have missed so much and had to resort to asking us to update him.  oh well.

I have always enjoyed the Trophy's salad, but the price has crept higher and higher and now they have literally halved the chunk of bread (a nice dark bread) they serve with it (and I think the salad size may have shrunk some as well), so it's no longer a filling meal and certainly not worth the $13.50 price.  Not the way to keep customers coming back.  The restaurant seemed quite empty tonight (Saturday), and I think their short-sighted cost-cutting will mean I and my friends choose another venue next time.  I guess the bread was the tipping point for me and Trophy's!

ATTENTION FOOTBALL FANS...I'm move to SD recently and was told this is a decent place to watch the games.  (also this is the first time I've written a review on this site)  They open the doors right at kickoff.  Their tvs are 20 inchers with 13 inchers and a 2 or 3 larger ones over the bar.  I spoke with the manager and she actually asked "oh the games start at 10am?"  Bad quality tvs.  the food was extremely bad.  Not even average bar food.  I had french toast that seem to resemble the frozen toaster kind I ate as a kid.  Not a good memory at all.  I was stuck watching the games as I didn't want miss any of the action, which consisted of me walking around the dining room as you will not be able to get a view of more than 2 tvs at one time.  The lunch was even worse, a pizza and lobster bisque.  The menu stated "famous" or something to that effect on the bisque.  It resembled a water based soup and had very litte flavoring other than salt.  Just a horrendous morning/afternoon.  My team won but that couldn't even brighten the experience.  Food Bad.  TV Bad.  Management Bad.  No one had any idea what game was on what tv.  Whatever advertising they do to get people there...amazing.   I was going to complain about the pricing but given the fact most poeple on game day stay for a few hours I'm ok with high prices.  The food was terrible.  The waitress was good but the manager was clueless.  How do you pass yourself off as a sports bar when your manager doesn't even know what time the games start?  After reading other reviews, please DO NOT consider this a sports bar.  OMG.  unless there is only one event taking place and you like 20 inch tvs from the 1980s...then maybe.
