My first time eating a trophy cupcake was when my sweet boyfriend googled the Internet searching for cupcakes for me. Found Trophy's and drove all the way down there and bought me one. That in itself made my first Carrot Cake Cupcake a 5 star experience.
We go back often. I buy the Red Velvet and a Carrot Cake for later......
But I think I will give them 4 stars because the face to face experience isn't as wonderful as it could be. I always feel hurried there.

Hard to add to the many great reviews, but my input is they have 5 star quality cupcakes, especially the chocolate vanilla, BUT their price is outrageous at $2.99 each. Compared to Hello Cupcake in Tacoma with $1.95 each pricing, their quality is slightly better with maybe moister cake, but it is not enough better to justify the extra dollar each!!!!

This little piggy went to Trophy and got two cupcakes.
One to eat then, and one to take home.
Then I squealed wee wee wee all the way home...
then squealed when she ate the PB and J cupcake.

I discovered yesterday that the Sidhu Farms blueberry cupcake has a Swiss meringue frosting and not a buttercream (like it says on Trophy's website), and since my primary issue was with the frosting I decided to go ahead and try the real buttercream-frosted cupcakes. I tasted the red velvet, the chocolate vanilla, and the matcha (a mini cupcake about the size of a mini Reese's peanut butter cup). The cakes were all good, though I prefer a smaller and denser crumb to my cupcakes - a more velvety texture instead of a spongy one.
I was disappointed by the red velvet cream cheese frosting, which was greasy and not very sweet - it had no tang to it! What is cream cheese frosting without a bit of tang? The cake was very good, though - it had a rich cocoa flavor and was very moist, with a large and airy crumb.
The chocolate vanilla probably had one of the darkest chocolate cakes I've ever seen (it looked a bit like an Oreo), and it was rich and moist (similar to the texture of the red velvet) paired up with the huge mound of frosting, a vanilla buttercream that was a little too sweet and grainy for me.
But the matcha! This matcha cupcake was heavenly. The "earthy green tea cake" (according to their website) was very dense and biscuity, and had a nice rich matcha flavor. The frosting was pure matcha bliss. If I could distill a good green tea mochi into a frosting it would taste like this. This is definitely not a lightweight cake like you'd get in a Japanese bakery - this is a firmly American cupcake fused with my favorite Japanese flavoring. Today (Thursday) is matcha day! Yes!

Best cupcake you'll EVER eat! My first Trophy cupcake was at a golf tourny at Echo Falls, days later I dreamed of the cupcake and wondered where it had come from. I hunted down the tourny coordinator and found out about Trophy. Since then I've never looked back. I eat at least one a week! Vanilla Vanilla is a great classic that is available every day. Looking for something a little more special? Try the PB&J avail Tues & Th , the Chocolate Graham Cracker avail Sun or the Snickerdoodle avail M & F. They all are to die for! PB&J is my fav. Chocolate Graham Cracker has a mountain of marshmallow on top! Snickerdoodle tastes EXACTLY like a snickerdoodle cookie.

3.5 stars... if I could. This place is more than okay but less than Yay! I'm a fan.
I like their red velvet, green tea, and chai cup cakes. When they opened I stopped by there after work and bought 4 cupcakes (not just for me, no!) They were good. While I was paying, I saw tiny cup cakes by the casher ....I thought they were for tasters, so I asked if I can have one and as soon as I touched one, they said "oh, they are not tasters..." Okay. I knew it! (no I didn't) Those little ones are pricey for the size!
Since then I see a sign with price on those little ones.
I like their cards and little cute stuff rather than their cakes. I like moist cakes. Their cup cakes can be little dry. I guess I rather have Tiramisu than cup cakes. There's nothing wrong with their cup cakes. Just cup cakes are not my favorite things to eat. But I still eat them though.

Perusing the Stranger for this weeks events, I noticed the ad for Trophy cupcakes. The picture of the most perfect cupcake ever, especially after the horrendous cupcake at Cupcake Royale in Ballard. I couldn't help it. Regardless of my diet it was calling me. I forced my visiting friends to hurry up and get ready b/c we had only 45 minutes to make it to Wallingford b4 it closes. As we're driving I started sweating, 1/2 b/c of the sweltering weather and the the other 1/2 b/c of the mad rush. We park and hurriedly walk to the plaza where it stands. As we were standing in line waiting for our turn, I stared at the menu of cupcakes available and with each item I dreamily imagined the taste and texture of each cupcake on my tongue. When it was finally my turn to order, the saliva had accumulated so much in my mouth that I had to take a hard swallow and breath before saying " Chocolate Mint cupcake, the red velvet cupcake, and the special blueberry cupcake (made with locally grown blueberries) please." I knew that yes this would be pricey at $2.99 a pop, but the cupcakes looked worth it and besides I was sharing each cupcake with a friend so it wasn't as gluttonous. When I paid at the register, I also ordered a small french drip coffee for $1.65. Seriously, you can't have dessert without either coffee or milk.
I plopped a squat at a table and opened the box with the cupcakes arranged in their own little slots in the box so they won't move around. First, I tried the chocolate mint cupcake. It was perfectly decorated with a cream colored icing with chocolate square sprinkles and a green mint leaf made of rice paper (edible and very good). The cupake is actually dark brown for the chocolate. I ate my half and realized that I almost made it to heaven, but not quite since I wasn't dead. The cupcake was moist, more so than expected, and I loved it and it was actual chocolate mint unlike Cupcake Royale. The icing was also chocolate mint and it was perfect, not too sugary that it hurts and smooth so that it melts in your mouth with the cake. There is no fatty residue in your mouth from eating the icing like other icings. I realized that my coffee was never made and so I asked the employees about it. They were very apologetic and even compensated me for their oversight by giving me a larger cup for the price of a small. I was so impressed by this b/c other places in Seattle don't compensate for their mistakes. (How can you say this isn't 5-star treatment???) And the coffee was very smooth on the stomach. Not too acidic yet very strong. I next ate my half of the red velvet cupcake. This was adorned with pink icing and a red heart in the middle of the swirl. Again this cupcake was just as moist, but the most impressive and memorable part of the cupcake was the icing. It was a cream cheese-flavored frosting and I can honestly say that no one can make it better than Trophy Cupcakes. Seriously, I have baked carrot cakes with cream cheese frosting since I was 11 years old and have always believed that my cream cheese frosting is better than anyone elses; UNTIL NOW. Trophy Cupcakes has the best cream cheese frosting. It isn't sugary, has the perfect firmness, doesn't taste like vanilla extract, and has no fatty residue in your mouth. I cannot complain about this place at all.
Trophy Cupcakes also offers obscure little trinkets such as pins and cake toppers. The combination of chocolate brown and tiffany's blue-green as it's primary colors for decor and presentation makes this place look quite dainty. Again, the staff is commendable and exceptional, friendly and full of customer service. They were never annoyed by our questions and didn't try to kick us out even though it was several minutes beyond closing time. And lastly, the cupcakes are divine. Oh and my blueberry cupcake??? Unlike Cupcake royale... the cupcake was actually blueberry as well as the icing. This cupcake is better than a blueberry donut from TopPot Donuts. I love that the desserts at Trophy Cupcakes isn't too sweet and sugary. For desserts it is well-balanced and the textures are mix perfectly in your mouth.
I am definitely going to bring all of my visitors here... and it is worth the every dime.

I. Love. Trophy. Probably more than most inanimate things in my life.
Trophy Cupcakes served as my wedding cake, hurrah! I ordered 60 cupcakes, thinking I was getting way too many for my small wedding (about 22 people), and they were nonetheless gone. The guests were moaning in gleeful, near-uncomfortably-full pleasure, and I can't even remember how many people asked where we had gotten them. (Flavors: Cafe Au Lait, Triple Chocolate, Lemon, and Vanilla Vanilla).
I continue to adore this place. I try not to go too often, seein' as how even the best cupcakes aren't good for you, but every once in a while, I find myself drawn there almost by magnetism. The hardest part is choosing what to get. I'd make a "best cupcakes" list, but... um... I'd just be copying and pasting their entire list of flavors. If you haven't tried the hummingbird, though, you really should.

Peanut butter and jelly cupcake - the smell sends you down memory lane and the taste is better that those childhood memories. I find that the cake here is moister than Cupcake Royale, but sometimes the frosting needs work. That being said, the minis are perfect and Trophy made my corporate event.
We had a huge holiday party coming up and the caterer wanted to charge me $6 a slice of cake that was less than inspiring. I went into Trophy cupcake for a tasting, came back to the office with a tray of discounted cupcakes for choosing, and called them with a huge order on short notice. They not only put the whole shebang together for us (350 minis) in one day, but also had cute rental stands for display of the cupcakes and tips to make it all prettier. We had triple chocolate, vanilla vanilla, and carrot cake. Yes, carrot cake here isn't the red-headed step child of cakes - you will love it as one of your own. Sadly, I didn't have a single cupcake to take home with me afterwards.

Another round and here it is: I prefer the lighter milkysweet frosting at Cupcake Royale. This go, Trophy's butter-loaded frosting tasted like the sticks they used had systematically absorbed every flavor from a crowded fridge: a little garlic here, a little pineapple there, impurities everywhere.
The chocolate cake was ever moist (a huge advantage over CR), but to enjoy it I had to rip off the bottom and fasten it on top, crafting a cupcake sandwich to dilute that fridge-companion-butterheavy taste. Left with a butterstuffed belly and an ache.
I DO appreciate Trophy's letterpress card selection and birthday trappings (scored a charming Sigmund Freud button to adorn my last cupcake gift), but Trophy has not yet mastered the Art of the Cupcake. Cupcake Royale's frosting, Trophy's cakes? Time to look at Look...

At one point I think Trophy Cupcake was another place I was happy to go to when I visited Wallingford. Now, I think it is almost a reason I go to Wallingford in the first place. (Oh, right, and seeing friends who live there, of course. :) )
In all seriousness, these are some of Seattle's finest baked goods. In a city that's a little hard-pressed for standalone dessert experiences Trophy Cupcake certainly stands out. The specialty flavors rotate on a daily basis and a lot of them are very novel - "Hummingbird" features a banana cake with coconut frosting, "Green tea," "Peanut Butter and Jelly," and "Graham cracker" topped with a crown of toasted meringue frosting demonstrates Trophy's devotion to being a gourmet cupcake experience. If you want just a small treat or to sample flavors, I recommend going with the $1.25 mini-cupcakes.
Still, if it's your first time, I absolutely recommend you start with a standard vanilla vanilla and I think you will agree: what makes this cupcake special is its crunchy top and yet consistently moist texture. The frosting complements this very nicely - I disagree that there's too much, it's a cupcake for crying out loud - but really, the cake part is something worth admiring for its uniqueness in cupcake selection. (This is contrasted with Cupcake Royale, which does do an interesting job of being a light cupcake, Magnolia Bakery in New York, which has perfected serving cupcakes freshly frosted and off the cooling rack, and Georgetown Cupcake in DC, which boasts a giant flavor selection every day.)
Also to note is Trophy's amazing staff, who are just devoted to making and serving terrific cupcakes, and not being snobby about it.
You kind of need to know about it to go there, given that it's in a converted schoolhouse shopping center, but once you do, Trophy is definitely one of the most visitable locations in Wallingford! Now I just wish it were open past 8...

I would probably eat a piece of bark smeared with pond scum if it was displayed in an appealing way. So when I walk by Trophy Cupcakes, I start to get heart palpitations because everything is so stinking CUTE. All those artfully frosted cakes in perfect little rows. Big ones, little ones. Plus, all the little party decoration bizness and cupcake toppers make me want to go back to age six and have a serious tea party.
Oh yeah. And they taste good, too. Much better than bark.

Before I begin, I must reveal myself as a Cupcake Royale loyalist. And while I would never leave my beloved Cupcake Royale, I certainly don't have a problem cheating on it with Trophy, particularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Peanut Butter and Jelly cupcakes make a man do things he might not feel quite right about. Plus: triple coconut -- for those who are happy with single coconut, but have the feeling there must be something more out there ...
Bonus: the staff seem to love the cupcakes as much as I do. Gripe: no wifi, and Wallingford Center is always overrun with kids getting their hair cut. (I know, kids in a cupcake shop. Who would have expected?) People seem split on the outdoor seating issue: you can sit outside, it's just not technically Trophy's seating.

These cupcakes are divine. How divine? Divine enough that you fantasize all week about your upcoming Saturday in which you are going to buy one of each flavor, lay in bed and watch videos you rented from Scarecrow, and eat them all, and in no way shape or form share them with anyone, except maybe your cat. That's how divine they are. The Hummingbird is the best! It makes up for the one they made on Martha, the smores one, which I think is only mediocre.
Oh, and these cupcakes are far better than those dog biscuits they serve at Cupcake Royale.

I have 3 words:
TRIPLE CHOCOLATE CUPCAKE
The best!!!
The only thing that makes it better is having it with a glass of icey cold milk.
The "party" selection is also great. Everything seems to have that vintage feel, including the stationary, books and cards. I also recently picked up "The Cupcake Deck" there, which is a collection of cupcake recipes all in a pretty box.
I'm not a huge sweets fan, so ended up scraping off most of the overwhelming dollop of frosting. My wife, on the other hand, IS a huge sweets fan, and she still ended up scraping off most of the frosting.
I had vanilla cake with chocolate frosting, and my wife had chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. The chocolate frosting tastes much better because of its dark-chocolatey depth . The vanilla frosting is gross -- you feel like you got hit by a fat and sugar beam.
The cake is OK, if a bit dry. I found the people nice, but it took them an eternity to make a cup of coffee for one of my friends.

As others have already warned, Trophy loads its cupcakes with mounds of icing. This technique makes for a comely cupcake, especially when the different flavors-of-the-day are all lined up in neat rows at this retro-looking shop. But, even for an insatiable sweet tooth like mine, it's enough to induce scraping.
Although I prefer Cupcake Royale, the moist consistency of the cake impressed me. I'll probably come back to try some of the rotating flavors.
I'm not a huge frosting fan, but I do love the frosting at Trophy. They do put a little too much, but hey, just scrape off what you don't want and take what you can.
The texture is a lot more dense and rich, which gives it a pound cake kinda feel... but it's damn good. Pair it with some skim milk to wash it down.
You can't really compare them with Cupcake Royale (also a fan), because they create different type of cupcakes. Both are delicious.
Cupcake Royale = Light and fluffy
Trophy = Creamy and rich
My Votes:
The best classic - Red Velvet
Interesting mix, now a favorite - PB&J Cupcake
Tastes just like it sounds - Cafe Au Lait
Healthy route - Carrot Cake
I really like cupcakes. I do. But not these cupcakes. They are way too rich with way too much frosting. I would rather bake up a batch of Duncan Hines at home and self-frost.
However, everyone and their mother talks of their love for Trophy, so I'm willing to accept that my tongue may be lacking proper cupcake tasting sensors. If you want to be a hit at any party, save your pennies and bring a dozen Trophy cupcakes. People will [pretend to] like you.
There is always a line of no less than five indecisive people, and since it's next to a children's hairdresser and surrounded by children's stores, there are tons of children underfoot. If running, yelling, screaming sproggen don't bother you, then ignore my warning. If they do: bake your own cupcakes.

I'm a fan of their triple chocolate cupcakes. It's by far the most delicious, moist flavorful one they have. Their green tea is meh. Their vanilla-vanilla isn't worth the calories. And their peanut butter and jelly? Who wants to go there?!
One thing they can work on is their SERVICE. For $3 a pop, they can certainly give up the attitude and eek out a smile or thanks for coming in. The decor is great and all but we're paying premium for these goodies. Can't they be a little happier about serving these beautiful little cakes? Maybe they're upset because they can't eat them all.

This is my favorite cupcake shop in Seattle. The cupcakes are moist and delicious and I enjoy frosting (and they give lots and lots of frosting). I will say that for the price $3...it is a bit more than one would think to spend on a cupcake but they are so heavy and filling that seriously you could skip dinner or split it as dessert with a friend or just slowly enjoy it. I love that they have the tried and true regular flavors and then spice it up with flavors according to the season (i.e. Irish Cream around St. Patty's day, Blueberry Cupcakes with Blueberry frosting for summer time happiness and oh...don't forget the s'more cupcake...it is so amazingly wonderful!)
They also serve coffee, tea and of course milk.
The decor is very cute and how you would imagine a cupcake shop should be.

I am gonna burn for this, but damn it, I just didn't like Trophy all that much. The issue, as always for me, comes down to frosting. The cake component of their cupcakes is wonderful and light, but the frosting doesn't develop a crust - it stays soft and fluffy. For a lot of folks, that is pure heaven, but I love frosting that develops a sugary crust, revealing fluffy awesomeness underneath.
Also, three bucks for a friggin cupcake? What the hell?
However, if soft frosting is your thing, and you don't mind the price, go for it. You will love this place. In the meantime, I'll just dream of Magnolia cupcakes and make my own.

So I recently moved away from Seattle and before leaving, I made it a priority to visit Trophy Cupcakes after seeing the yelp reviews. It's located in Wallingford Center, which is this homey mini indoor-mall that sells hippy-dippy clothes and crafts...a sliver lining=free parking! There seemed to be a cupcake-tasting party going on when I was there, I don't really know for sure, but it looked super fun and would be great for a birthday/baby shower.
On to the cupcakes: I had the red velvet and hummingbird cupcake. The red velvet was very tasty and not too crumbly, although not as dense as the cakes I'm used to. The hummingbird cake is an amazing tropical combo of banana/coconut/pineapple with little chunks of fruit floating around. Both cupcakes were topped with the creamiest, smoothest cream cheese frosting. I usually scrape off frosting from cupcakes because I find that frosting tends to taste either too sweet or too artificial. This frosting, however, was neither and I was content to enjoy the entire cupcake in all of its goodness.
What the...I just took a look at their website and they actually have some recipes on there--amazing!

Now, should I be rating for the deliciously moist and oh-so-flavorful cupcakes or the expensive price? 5 stars for the yummy cupcakes and 3 for the price and calories on hips with my super slow 30-something metabolism. I love their Chocolate Graham Crackers with the burnt marshmellowy icing and crumbly graham pieces at the bottom. The first time I was going to order it, it was minutes before closing and the line was long; alas some young hip dude in front of me took the last two that I pointed out to my hubby about and I vowed to come back again and I'm glad I did.
My husband claims that he doesn't give a hoot about pretty little cupcakes but always picks one out for himself when he's with me and sometimes "innocently" eats one of mine when I'm not around. I've only tried the Sunday/Saturday flavors, and most are really good with icing that's not too sweet, especially with a good cup of (fill in the blank yourself), but it all depends on your tastes. The Cafe au Lait one didn't float my boat but you can read the myriad of other reviewer comments for different flavors on here.
I never imagined cupcakes to be the latest hottest "pastry trend" until I got on Yelp! and happened to catch an episode of Martha Stewart's week long tribute to cupcakes. Trophy gets my vote.

I love Trophy! I blame it wholeheartedly (and with cupcake in hand) for the extra 10lbs I've gained the last 2 quarters. But since my insides are swimming with Red Velvet, I can't complain.
Cupcake: The cupcake doesn't taste like some hastily baked out-of-box mix (see Cupcake Royale for that) but is soft, crumbly, hand-made, spiced properly, and MOIST. Wow, moist! I love the Chai-flavored cupcake, it's probably my favorite.
Frosting: Mmm, butter and sugar. Lemon is my go-to whip, but the Triple Chocolate is also to die for. Melt in your mouth gooey goodness.
Ambiance: Great little store, with giftcards and strange accessories for home. Good place to sit and eat, chat a bit, eat some more.
Service: Okay, the only part of Trophy that needs improvement. Its staff are impatient and kind of arrogant. It's great they work here, but they are cupcake staff. Cupcake staff should be nice. Cupcake staff should say "have a nice day". Cupcake staff should not smush your cupcakes during packaging then glare at you when you open the box to start dabbling at the frosting!
Recommend greatly anyway.

So I had a date yesterday, and he doesn't drive, so he brought his mother. Sometimes you really really like a guy and you put up with his idiosyncracies - even though, come on, he's over 100 and he brings his MOM? He also brought his brother and I got to kiss BOTH of them. Swoon. I'm such a dog slut.
Anyway, my date Ferghal, his brother Ralph, and their mom MMAD (whom I love madly, truly, deeply) and I all made a stop at Trophy cupcakes after the Wallingford Market. Now I have such a tiny sweet tooth, I haven't even been yet and I live about three minutes away. But while my date and his bro were busying licking up crumbs and seducing passing shoppers to pet them (I tried not to be jealous, but I don't like anyone else to touch Ferghal), MMAD and I had French Press coffee (fantastic) and I bought a chocolate -chocolate to be taste-tested after dinner.
The service seemed perfectly friendly to me, although mildly ditzy. Still, I didn't evidence any of the concerns others have mentioned. And the cupcake? Well, it's hard to screw up a chocolate cupcake. But the verdict: Excellent. Great icing, good texture. I'm not sure how often I'll be back given my preference for savory vs sweet in all areas of my life (somewhat unfortunately.)
Still - good job, Trophy. Nearly as delicious as Ferghal's long collie nose. ;)

I'm interested in the fact that so many people seem to know exactly where/how to order what in this place. As newbies, my food partner and I got in the massively long line and when we reached the area where they order cupcakes, the girl in front of us didn't order any cupcakes. Nor was she asked if she wanted to order any cupcakes, despite the fact that she looked at several of them and smiled at the girl behind the counter.
We made eye contact briefly with one of the counter workers, who then proceeded to chat it up with a coworker of hers, completely ignoring us in the process. We hung around a bit longer and still, nothing. No greeting, no "can I get you anything?" Nothing.
I appreciate being busy, BELIEVE ME, I do. But this was kind of off-setting for two newbies to the way this business works.
We figured it out once we reached the cashier, who told us that we had to order our cupcakes way back there. The line, by now, was reaching a second time zone and frankly, we weren't in the mood to stand in line all day...so we left. Bummed. In a big sort of way.
Because, you see, we like cupcakes. A lot. And we wanted to see if these cupcakes were all that we could ask for and we were preparing for our first ever experience with red velvet cake. But this kind of put us in a different mindset.
I think it's great there's such a following. Everything LOOKED good and all the extras they sold looked really pretty. But overall, we were disappointed.
One star for things looking amazing, a second star for bringing cupcakes to this area. Because really, it shouldn't be a competition about who has the best cupcakes...it should be a celebration of cupcakes, period.
Perhaps another time, Trophy Cupcakes. :(

I find the whole cupcake debate very, VERY funny, especially when people get heated about which is better, Cupcake Royale or Trophy? People, they are CUPCAKES. What's not to love, wherever you get them from??? I mean, I ask you, how you can hate a cupcake unless it's totally over-processed?
I prefer Cupcake Royale's butter-creamy, perfectly swirled frosting to Trophy's gigantor pile of fluff, but I prefer Trophy's moister cake to CR's - it seems a bit more homemade to me, more fall-apart cakey. I'm not going to kick either one out of bed, though.
My favorite flavor at Trophy is the Vanilla. I tried the Peanut Butter & Jelly and it wasn't for me, and I finally got one of the famous Chocolate Graham Cracker cupcakes and it was good, but not wow-inducing. I'm looking forward to trying some other flavors - the Chai Cardamom looks good, as does the Triple Coconut or Carrot Cake.
Anyway, don't pay too much attention to the SEATTLE CUPCAKE WAR. If you like cupcakes, try one from each place and figure out which one you like - it's probable you'll like both. :)
I've been wanting to try this place forever. I finally did, and I sure was glad. First off, the cupcakes are beautiful. The inside of Trophy is adorable as well. Cakes are a little pricey, $3 a pop, but well worth the 5 minutes of pure blissful inhalation. I got the walnut carrot. The icing is smooth and shiny; more cream cheese, less powdered sugar. Plump golden raisins grace each bite.
My sis got the Chocolate PB. I've never had more delicious PB frosting. OMG!
My boyfriend had the strawberry lemonade. It was good, but not really my cup of tea. The frosting is pink and is obviously made my mixing pink lemonade powder into the frosting for a tangy-tart lemonade flavor. Inventive!
The Red Velvet boasts the same yummy cream cheese icing as the carrot cake. The cake it'self is a little more chocolately than I prefer. Red velvet cakes vary in bases from region to region. My own personal red velvet recipe has only a touch of cocoa and gets its flavor more from the buttermilk base. But that's just my own preference.
While this isn't a place I'm going to visit all the time, It's a great place to take friends and family when in town visiting. It's a super cute and fun to visit!
Alright, Trophy, you can have your star back. You earned it.
