I must have been one of the first customers at Trinidad Gourmet. Every time I went to Normals Books, I'd see the new awning across the street and couldn't wait to give it a try on my lunch break. TG turned out to be a great addition to Waverly!

Standard Caribbean fare (roti, jerk chicken, oxtail) is affordable and delicious. The veggie roti includes your choice of a few different veggies, all good. If you're really broke, get a chicken or beef patty, and/or "doubles" (a sandwich of sorts made from chickpeas and flatbread)--substantial, tasty, and $1.50 each. I was very happy to discover this when I was living at the poverty level as an AmeriCorps volunteer.

The owner and his wife are nice, and he'll happily encourage you to try his homemade mango or tamarind chutney. They did a good job with the renovation, but for the most part this is a take-out place; there are stools and a counter along the front window and one of the walls if you want to sit and eat, but you won't remember this place for the atmosphere. You're better off taking your food home or back to the office.
