Ahhh-mazing. Underscore and bold. This place is full of the charm of a local mom and pop market, a place with great aromas, flavors, and friendly faces. The rosemary garlic bread was among the most amazing things I've ever bedazzled my tastebuds with.
Prices are super affordable (got a bag of seasoning for 99 cents and 4 eggplant paties for $2.49. The only issue is the service can be slow, and it can get really crowded, so you're better off going early. -

I love the quality of goods, prepared food, and fresh food at Trinacria. Their sandwiches are great and the olives are SO delicious. We had an event recently where we needed to feed lots of people. We bought two of the prepared lasagnas (one veggie and one meat) and some of their garlic bread. The bread was the best! So delicious. The lasagnas were tasty but not fantastic.
But I have two big complaints:
1) The layout is terrible and for the amount of traffic they receive, there is definitely not enough space.
2) Service at the deli is awesome! Service when checking out can be pretty poor. On a busy day, expect to wait in line for way too long. -

When I say Trinacria is a gem, it is a huge understatement. I had no clue this tiny Italian market/deli existed until a friend who caters gave me a tip. For all of your Italian specialty food needs, this is your place.
My most favorite item at Trinacria is the prosciutto bread, a ring of fresh bread with cheese and prosciutto baked in the center. I would highly recommend taking the extra step to ask for this bread raw or half-baked, and then baking it yourself (they will tell you for how long/what oven temperature). It is SUBLIME when it's fresh from the oven.
All of the deli sandwiches are fantastic, I couldn't even begin to tell you where to begin there. You really can't go wrong. Although I would highly recommend the cannolis! You can also buy the cannoli shells and filling to make your own. The wine selection is also extensive, and I think the prices are very good.
This small market tends to get very crowded during lunch hours during the week, so I cannot even imagine what the weekends are like. Plan accordingly, it's well worth the effort. -

The real deal when it comes to Italian!!! Great lasagna for a great price! Wish it wasn't so far away from our house.

Shoveled away in an unexpected neighborhood is a Italian treat. Delicious bread, wonderful sauces, and much more.
I came for the deli, and the olive oil soaked breads were expectantly delicious. The Meatball Sub's sauce was full of flavor, and the bread was thick and soft. The Prosciutto Panini's bread and cheese gave an excellent compliment to the strong prosciutto-- only when it wasn't overpowered. The first couple bites were overwhelming due to the amount of prosciutto. There were many layers, making it difficult to bite off. Upon inspecting the rest of the sandwich, I believe they just failed to distribute the meat evenly on the bread.
I'm certainly coming back for another go. -

Wow. There are a few questions that come to mind after trying this place:
1) Why didn't I try it sooner?
2) What is a fine establishment like Trinacria doing in such a ghetto ass neighborhood? and
3) Why isn't it closer to my school?
This place has everything Italian from salami and prosciutto to focaccia and mozzarella.
The muffleto sandwhich is pretty damn good and huge! For $6 you can get lunch and dinner in one delicious sandwich. I really like the olive oil spread that has green olives in it. Very flavorful and works well with the meats that come with it. I would skip on the chicken pesto sandwhich though. The pesto is not very flavorful and could use some mayo and bacon. But thats just me...
So in summary: Cheap, tasty, authentic Italian deli. -

From the outside, you'd think I was nuts for rating this place five stars. It's an easy-to-miss hole-in-the-wall type place in a seedy neighborhood in Baltimore. But once you go in and squeeze through the narrow aisles, it's as if you're dreaming. Hundreds of bottles of wine (many inexpensive), fresh-baked bread, a big deli counter with a sandwich menu, frozen foods, etc. This might be the greatest place in the world. I walk out of there with two sandwiches that could feed a small village, a few gigantic bottles of wine and it all costs around $30. It's fantastic. I love this place.

You don't have to be Italian to appreciate the many splendors of Trinacria, you just have to love good food. It feels like some sort of secret spot, with its grated windows standing in defiance of the less-than-safe neighborhood, the dingy, tired storefront belying the goodness within.
Everyone has their hidden gems in this store, and here are mine:
The bottles of olive oil, bulk imported from Italy. You purchase and reuse the same bottle over and over, getting a little discount every time you bring your bottle back for refilling. PS - you look hella slick popping the cork out of your unmarked bottle when cooking for guests.
The breads. My god the breads. If you go on the weekend, go decently early, before noon. The bread is churned out all day, but when you catch it fresh and hot from the oven, you swoon. The focaccia and the prosciutto bread are must-trys.
The sandwiches, of course. Their deli meats are fantastic, everything is made fresh to order, and the guys working behind the counter are just a trip. My absolute favorite is the Italian Tuna on focaccia - a surprising blend of tuna, olive oil, muffaletta and anchovy. Briny, salty, delicious. Grab a can of San Pellegrino Limonata with this one.
So many things in the store are hand-made there - the sauces, the frozen ravioli in the back, the meatballs. They are all worth picking up and stuffing your freezer and pantry with. Fancy making your own sauce? Everything you need is there too, super cheap. For .79¢ you get a bag of spices that would easily cost you $5 at a grocery.
Somehow only Trinacria can make a $4 bottle of red wine and frozen ravioli with red sauce seem worthy of a last meal.Listed in: Occupy My Stomach

I'm lucky enough to live a mere two blocks from Trinacria. Not so lucky in that my credit card gets a real workout here. It's worth every penny, however - the finest Italian food you'll ever eat can be found here. The sandwiches are not to be missed. Great prices for authentic ingredients - if you don't cook Italian, you will after visiting this place.
The best it gets!
Be aware: it gets insanely crowded on the weekends, and it's not a large place. Try to get there as early as you can to avoid the rush. Because there WILL be one. -

I was introduced to this place years ago by a friend. It wasn't the food that originally brought us in. Instead they had these "handles" of Macaroni house red wine. They were $6 at the time and delicious. Of course the food isn't bad either. Great sandwiches. They also have a variety of prepared frozen foods. The lasagna is nice. They also sell freshly grated parm cheese by the bag. So light and tasty. There are a couple of down sides. First it is in "Shadyville". If you don't live in the city or are not familiar with the city, be careful in the neighborhood (luckily it's usually close before dark). Second, they close early.

Can't believe it took me so long to finally try this place. Trinacria is a Baltimore institution in a rather peculiar location. Can someone fill me in on the history as to why it's located on Paca near Mulberry/Franklin? There's no Italians around there!!
Anyways, you walk into this non-descript shop and you are in heaven. Stocked with imported wines, pastas, cheeses, sauces, and more, the customers are cajoling around waiting for their order.
You get a ticket as you walk in and then you go and wait to be called. The menu is very extensive and almost anything you select, you can guarantee that it will be fresh and delicious. I went with the Italian roast beef sandwich on focaccia bread accompanied with a San Pellegrino Aranciata soda. Absolutely delicious. I was pleasantly surprised.
I've been to some classic Italian deli's and shops all over the east coast and in Chicago, and this is by far one of the best ones around. Give these people business because it is retailers like these that make cities like Baltimore special! -

I only knew of this tiny shop and it's offerings because of the Yelp reviews and it's consistent placement on the top of the list of Best of Baltimore, so I finally gave it a shot for lunch. Yes, the street parking can be challenging, there are old-school coin parking meters on Paca, so bring quarters.
I had the prosciutto, mozzarella and pesto sandwich on foccaccia and it was fabulous, huge, tasty and a great value for $5-6. Also tried some of the Pignoli cookies and they were yummy and fresh. This grocery/deli seems like the go to for anything italian (domestic/imported) and they have an overwhelming amount of dried pastas, wines and everything you would ever need to prepare an authentic italian meal. -

My family and I have been going to Trinacria since I was a tot. It felt so little then (which when you are a kid, it is enchanting) and is even smaller now that I'm older. I love that it feels like I just walked into my grandmother's pantry. The market is just so fabulous, lots of pastas, sauces, spices, wine, frozen food, and deli meats. For the first time I ordered frozen ravioli (smoked mozzarella and roasted tomatoes) and a container of their alfredo sauce....holy cow! The flavors were amazing.
As others said, parking is a pain. Plan to get there very early on a Saturday or mid day during the week.
Oh - ordered a deli platter from them a few months ago for a party......so, so good! You pick your meats and cheeses. It comes with two sides, fresh roles, and condiments. Reasonably priced. I will totally use them again for future parties. -

I've lived across the street for years now, and end up at Trinacria about once a week or more. My Grandfather used to pick up sauce, meatballs, and cannoli's from here when I was a child. I re-discovered it about 5 years ago. I would say the real gems here are not the obvious goodies. I'll fill you in:
-Proraso shaving creams/aftershaves - clean and fresh mentholated stuff that you need a brush for, but the best I've ever tried. 8 bucks a tube (lasts 6 months or more)
-Manhattan espresso soda
-Italian Tuna Sub - divine mix of tuna/olive oil/muffaletta sauce/mayo/anchovy paste
-Old fashioned Copa
-Breakfast sandwiches - HUGE and made with any meat/cheese combo from the deli!
-Coffee - cheap and good
-Crane Lake - Cab Sav - is actually palatable and for $4
Have Mike pick you out a bottle of wine though.
Parking is generally free anywhere in the area. Meter maids are around twice a day. -

This place by far as to be one of my favorite Italian groceries in the Baltimore metro area. Everything they have is strictly old world and imported from Italy. The macaroni is always fresh, and their homemade gravies are beyond compare. I would even go as far as to say their gravy rivals my own. And that's an awful lot of boasting from me, because I hold a great amount of pride in my own culinary skills.
I would even go as far as saying should I find I'm too lazy to cook, this place will provide me with a prepared dish that will satisfy my every desire for old world cuisine. I absolutely love and adore this little grocery. To top it off as you can tell from my past reviews I absolutely adore family owned businesses. This is another one of those establishments that brings great pride in my history and culture.
The only downside to this place is a finding of a space to park and can be a little bit trying from time to time. I would highly recommend you go first thing in the morning. However, there are pay-to-park parking lots within a block or two from the grocery.
If you're in the mood for some authentic fresh homemade food; this is definitely the place for you! -

Walking into Trinacria was like stepping back in time; they've been around since 1908. They sell everything you need to make Italian meals, from 00 durum/semolina flour to make your own pasta from scratch to take and bake stuffed manicotti ready made from the freezer case. The deli counter has always been a favorite stop for their inexpensive, but enormous and delicious sandwiches. I love any sandwich of theirs that's between their freshly baked focaccia and has the tapenade on it. The deli has ridiculously low prices per pound for meats and cheeses, and this is olive heaven. Go early, get in line and take a number.

We've been going to Trinacria for a while (thanks to a recommendation from a neighbor), but my trip today reminded me that it was time to Yelp. The hours are a little weird for the working, but it's worth it to check your schedule. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Nobody can beat the wine prices. Today I literally bought some decent wine for 3.99. The pasta is homemade as are the desserts. You all know I'm in the Vaccarros fan club, but these Linzer tarts are ahhhhmazing! And who doesn't want one of those huge cans of olive oil for $25. This place is great, has great prices, and is a great way to support the local economy. Yay! I'm a fan

First time here, a lot of people!
I got a meatball sub - it was huge! Really good tho. The meatballs were done just right, the bread was WONDERFUL and the sauce was good too. next time I'm saving part of for dinner tho.
They also had tons of what looked like really yummy italian things, including pizza rounds like I've been looking for for along time, "home made" meat sauce in jars, etc.
I WILL be going back ;). -

Cheap, good, huge portions, and fast. The frozen stuff is equally as good. Make sure you grab a ticket when you come in the door for your place in line at the deli or someone behind the counter might turn green.

There are countless reviews raving about how great this place, which I completely agree, so I won't really continue to beat a dead horse. I just thought I'd throw out my few pros and cons of Trinacria.
Pros: Prosciutto bread, frozen pizza dough, exceptionally cheap bottles of Verdi, almond biscotti and the fresh mozzarella sandwich
Cons: Chocolate dipped almond cookies (the chocolate tasted old), the said bags of frozen pizza dough not being closed with anything but twisting the bag itself and the fact that the freezers drip water all over the food inside.
I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, but is no one else bothered by that? I've been dying to buy the containers of frozen raviolis or homemade meatballs but it just doesn't seem right. It obviously hasn't prevented me from coming here on a weekly basis but I just wanted to throw that out there. -

Two words: Cheap and Delicious! Seriously, if you live in Baltimore and you've never been here then what is wrong with you (I mean that in the nicest way possible)
They have a huge range of fresh cheese, an olive bar, homemade sauses, fresh baked bread (that is usually still warm), not to mention canolis, hot or cold sandwiches and so much more.
If you're not into cooking they have a whole frozen section of already prepared food such as lasagna, ravioli, and pasta dishes that just require boiling or baking! Please, please buy their dough and get all the ingredients to make your own pizza! You will be so happy!
And the staff pretty much kicks ass, too. -

I have visited this place twice now, and I look forward to going as often as I can before I leave Baltimore.
The first time I went, I ordered a muffaletto sub. the second time i ordered the same thing but on focaccia. i love their focaccia bread. and their prosciutto bread. olive oil in bulk, a ton of different types of frozen ravioli to cook up back home (i got mini seafood ravioli), and a very friendly staff. What's most important for me was that despite the great taste, they charge VERY little for the quantity/quality of food they provide. the muffaletto, priced at $5.69, lasts me more than one meal, ~1.5. i need to find another place like this when i move to pennsylvania. -

This place is awesome! Went there yesterday and got the Italian Cold Cut sub my fiance got the Roast Beef, Provolone, Horseradish, Mayo, Lettuce, Tomatoes sandwich. So good!
The deli/store is in a sketchy neighborhood and they close at 4:30pm. But the food was incredible. The store is a little cramped but the service was very good. Definitely go there! -

I went to Trinacria in the afternoon for a sandwich. The guys at the deli were fast and friendly with the sandwich orders. However when it came to pay the lady at the register preferred to yell at the staff rather than serve the growing line of customers waiting to pay.
Thumbs up for the veggie sandwich filled with capers, roast peppers and mozzarella in a focaccia studded with herbs and tomatoes. yum! -
Review from Jenny H.
I love this place to get fresh cheeses, breads (GREAT bread here, all types!!) at a reasonable price. I love coming here when I'm making an Italian feast because they have everything here!!!
I finally tried their sandwich, their Smoked Turkey Panini which was just OK- they gave you a lot of meat, and it was good all thinly sliced, but it was a bit too much meat for me. There were chunks of artichoke and roasted peppers, but there was no sauce or consistency to pull it all together so when you took a bite, it was like eating all the ingredients separately. and the bread wasn't as crispy as I would like it. I will try another sandwich next time. -

Wow.
WOW.
I mean seriously, this place is a foodie's dream. First off, HUGE thanks to the yelper that recommended the muffaletta, I honestly think this is one of the top 3 sandwiches I've ever had and certainly the best sandwich I've had in recent memory. It is off the charts delicious.
I also picked up 2LBs of sausage (pretty sure they make it on-site) and peppers, for a whopping total of $7.60. So good and the sausage was amazing. Also picked up some mozzarella and prosciutto stuffed hot peppers, which I've yet to sample.
They have tons of wine, olive oil, baked goods, frozen foods, fresh pasta sauces, spices and ready to cook pastas. I lived in Baltimore for 2 years and somehow managed to miss this place... what a shame.
Go, go now and go often.
PS. Not the nicest neighborhood but that pretty much describes all of Baltimore anyways so whatever. -
Review from Yaka H.
After walking awhile through a somewhat sketchy neighborhood, I stopped in front of a tired looking shopfront. Inside, it's bustling with people with staff calling out numbers to fulfill customer orders. Be sure to grab a number ticket on the left when you first enter the store.
Trinacria Macaroni is deli and a dry goods supermarket rolled into one. They have various dry goods (pasta, canned sauces, etc.), fresh baked bread (the Prosciutto Bread seemed to be very popular and kept flying off the shelf), a variety of olives, a section of cold/frozen homemade pastas and Italian dishes, cold cut deli counter, and some pastries/Italian cookies/dessert section. They also sell a variety of wines priced quite reasonable/cheap.
I ordered a few cannolis and an Eggplant Parm Panini. I'm a big sucker for eggplant anything and back home, I always get eggplant parm heros when I can. The size of the sandwich was quite generous. I would have actually preferred to have another thin layer of eggplant in the sandwich, but it was still satisfying. The bread was superb; Nice delicate, crisp crust with a soft and plushy interior.
I wished they had a grilled eggplant or eggplant cutlet sandwich with fresh mozz, roasted red peppers, basil, drizzled with some balsamtic vinegar. But, they do have a large sandwich menu consisting of various Italian-style cold cuts (ie: sopressata, prosciutto, etc).
I was able to use my groupon, which made my trip here even more enjoyable. However, I would definitely come back with or without a groupon deal though. The quality here is not bad for the price. The only issue here is that you need to wait a bit as the staff needs some time to fulfill sandwich orders, deli orders, and checking people out. -

Trinacria is a beautiful, beautiful thing. I don't understand why anyone would go anywhere else for their quality Italian cuisine needs when you have almost everything here and for effin' CHEAP (what a concept!). Maria pretty much covered everything but here are a few other things of note:
1) The amazingness of their deli counter needs to be reiterated--the bulk olive oil, the CHEESES, the delicious deli meats, oh and the OLIVES! I don't think I'll ever buy bulk olives anywhere else.
2) Italian cookies!! By weight! And cheap!
3) The frozen meatballs and eggplant parmesan made by the store make good easy meals. Oh and they have great pre-made sauces. Who the hell needs Prego?
4) One stop spot for impromptu fancy picnics. Made-to-order sandwiches + wine + cookies = good to go.
Some tiny, tiny gripes:
1) Sometimes the bulk basil is a bit sketchy but when it's fresh, it's a good deal.
2) Like most everything in downtown, they close early (4:30pm) and they're closed on Sundays and Mondays. Sadness.
3) Bring your own shopping bag! Which I fully support but sometimes, I just forget and have to haul everything awkwardly in a cardboard box.
What they lack they totally make up for in quality and price.Listed in: Top-Notch Standbys

I have said I am not a food snob, and it's true. But I am half Italian-American, which means, among other things, that I am not familiar with the concepts of storebought tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese from a can. I know the difference between rotini and rotelle. I have a spaghetti jar and it is always stocked. And as much as I usually shop at hippie organic markets, buying Italian groceries at those places usually isn't worth the unnecessarily high prices and weird selection.
I know there are a couple of other independent Italian groceries in Baltimore, even if you don't count Ceriello Fine (read: bougie) Foods in Belvedere Square. Mastellone's and DiPasquale's are great and each have their own local followings, but as for me...I keep coming back to Trinacria.
This tiny place on an otherwise completely uninteresting block on the west side of Downtown has been around since 1900. It has always been owned by the same family. They've got a fabulous selection of imported canned goods, pastas and other groceries, but I always get the store-made dry pasta ($0.79 a pound last time I checked). Recently they've started selling olive oil in bulk--bring your own bottle or buy one of theirs. In the back and lining the front of the deli counter are various random varieties of wine, seriously priced to move. Wine clearance and special prices range from $3.99 to $6.99 a bottle.
And oh, the deli counter. Italian cheeses (Reggiano for $10.49/lb--take that, Whole Foods), homemade Italian sausage, cold cuts, and a few different kinds of olives. Sandwiches made to order are heavenly--what makes the difference is the crusty, homemade bread and fresh ingredients.
Trinacria is pretty old-school. They're not open into the evening or on Sundays. I'm pretty sure they only started accepting credit cards within the last year or so. And it can get packed on Saturdays when people come from far and wide to stock up for the week, so take a number.
The location is odd, but convenient if you live in Downtown, Mt. Vernon, Seton Hill or Bolton Hill. Also convenient for me, a former Baltimore resident who now mostly comes into town for classes at UB.
The staff is always friendly and helpful and they do remember their repeat customers. Trinacria is a gem--I wish there were a place like it near my house. -

Probably one of the best Italian markets in the region.
Growing up in Italy was a blessing, leaving it lead to consecutive dissapointments of trying to find authentic Italian products in the US.
Unless you go to NYC on a regular basis and can hit the Arthur avenue authentic Italian neighborhood, then Trinacria is the place to hit!
I was amazed at the amount of product packed in this place, my mamma and I were in ode of such abundant authentic product is here.
The prices are to die for, unheard of to find Montepulciano d' Abbruzzo or just vino di tavola (table wine) for $2.99!
The fresh pastas are just like my mamma and I make it, the sauses and the desserts are amazing.
The people are just extremely courteous and friendly.
Parking is a little pain in the butt, but worth it. -

Such an amazing place! Trinacria is a treasure trove of deliciousness, but you wouldn't know it from the street. The grated windows and general dingy appearance are deceiving, but don't let it stand in your way.
At Trinacria, the diversity of delicacies available seem endless. There simply isn't enough space here, or time for that matter, to list them all. Basically, there is everything you need to make a phenomenal Mediterranean meal. My personal favorites are:
1. Fresh sliced meats - all fresh and half the price you pay at a supermarket
2. Deli sandwiches - made to order (even call ahead). get one with tapenade!
3. Pre-prepared, frozen lasagna, eggplant parmesan, sauces, meatballs, etc - awesome for a quick, delicious meal without the fuss.
4. Coffee! - super cheap and incredibly strong. An americano for $1. Can you beat that?
5. Cookies - does it need an explanation?
6. Olive oil - bring your own container and they'll fill it for super cheap
7. WIne - a large variety, and some on special for as cheap for $3.99.
8. Fresh baked breads - kalamata olive loaf, yum!
I could go on and on. Go and explore. You'll be inspired to create a wonderful meal. The only drawback is the limited hours - open until 4:30pm Tues - Sat. Closed on Sun and Mon.Listed in: Wake me up!

A real Baltimore classic and hidden treasure. You would not likely just stumble across this place if you were not in the know or did not grow up in Baltimore. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy but this place has the atmosphere of a old time real Italian grocers. I have been going there for many years and never disappointed. They have the highest quality deli meats and gourmet cheeses, olives, pantry staples and the prices are great. If you go on Sat morning it can be a little chaotic so plan to take an number and wait. Try the store baked prosciutto bread. Lots of value priced wine specials but I avoid the top shelf wines as the area is too warm for them to be stored properly long term.
