What is not to love -- this place has an excellent atmosphere, it's warm and cozy, and right on Newbury St.  There you have a few reasons to check it out.  It's a bit small, but that's partially why it feels so nice.  I don't know, you can't quite have it all.

I always go here with a friend for brunch, and it's delicious, and that's what I'm here to recommend, BRUNCH.  Last time I got their lemon ricotta french toast and omg that thing is delicious!  I could only eat ONE out of the two, so you can tell those were big french toasts.  I usually can eat a cow in one seating. I also had chai and that was also amazing, one of the best Chai with cinnamon, and that's a reason to love it all the most.

The wait time on a Saturday (a rainy one) at around noon was no more than 15 minutes.  This, however, I'm sure it's because it was raining and there weren't as many people out and about doing their Newbury shopping.  Me and my friend, however, could not be stopped from making it to Newbury, basically to have good brunch here.

Go try it.  My chai was made by Angels. :)

My wife and I visited while we were in Boston last month, and we were impressed. The book selection is moderate and very enjoyable to browse, as the space is coomfy and feels old. Because they were relatively busy, there was no staff-interaction except for the front counter.

I definitely liked the environment, especially considering it is wedged in the trendy district. I love the attitude of the owners (just check out the website if you are unfamiliar) and it permeates through all parts of the space.

The only drawback I saw was that it was, at times, quite cramped. This is especially a problem at the front of the store, where the register and line to pay are stacked right near the primary entrance. Otherwise, it's a great place, and we'll definitely visit each time we're in town.

The books were a little too disorganized for my liking, but maybe I went in on a bad day.

The food was good, but not excellent. I had the soup and salad combo: The onion soup = too greasy and oily
The Havarti and tomato toasted cheese sandwich = perfect!
The bowl of chips = a bit too much
The cup of mulled cider = excellent!

I'd go back, other food items looked worth trying and the magazine selection was appealing. I'm not in a rush to visit again though--I'd stop in if I were in the area and had some time to kill  :-)

Oh my dear Trident,

Why does no one speak of your delicious books?

After all, you are a bookstore (and then cafe), yet people always rave about your steaming, chewy sweet-potato fries and smoky chili on cold, winter nights, but never glorify your books.  Damn the fools- you are you because of the endless volumes of Chinese calligraphy and eroticism you hold on your sturdy wooden shelves.

Only through you I was able to get a rewards card, and now I come to you monthly to explore your territories.

Oh Trident, you make me quiver.
In all of your knowledgable ways.

Initially I went to Trident to steal internet while bored waiting on shopaholics known as my friends.

I'm a picky picky girl.  I can't eat eggs, I abstain from wheat (except for crepes and it has to be super yummy), so when I made up my own jumble of meat and veggies and it came out perfect.

Bought my mom a book, played on facebook, and had enough money to blow next door at american apparel.

I needed free wireless and my brother sent me here.  I had the best juice ever.  The complexion one, with cucumbers.  Ahmazing.  One whole entire year later I find myself back at Trident.  The brunch selection is to die for.  The chuckwagon?  Yes please.  The lemon ricotta french toast?  Yes please.  Pancakes with marshmellows?  Yes, yes, please.

There can be a wait, but it is a book store on the other side, so browse you big whiner.   Once you are seated the servers are supper nice and friendly.

Tonight my wife and I got a large coffee and a large hot chocolate. The hot chocolate tasted like 90% hot milk and 10% chocolate, and my coffee tasted like 90% water and 10% coffee. And the "large" cups are - no joke - about 5" tall and not very wide.

We may be back to buy books, but are definitely avoiding the cafe. Sorry, Trident, it was bad enough that I Yelped as soon as I got in the door.

Plus one star for superlative sweet potato fries.

Minus one star for the world's slowest service. I feel like at Trident, time--and food--move slower than they did in the Stone Age. When you had to hunt and roast a buffalo for your meal. It's like that, but less active. And with less water buffalo.

Plus one star for awesome loose leaf tea selection.

Minus one for giving me a weird-ass look when, after being ID'd, I presented a valid Pennsylvania license and it took two people (and five extra minutes) of staring to locate my birthday, calculate years, and put it back on the table ... in a sticky puddle of syrup.

Plus one for breakfast foods made better (mini marshmallows! ricotta creme! other shit!), in decent portions.

Minus one for being on the pricey side, given the amount of turnover this place does and the occasionally-brainless service they offer. I have trouble forking over $13 for some mesclun, a slice of mozzarella, and a dollop of pesto. Merrrrrp.

Plus one for a decent selection of magazines to peruse, including the foreign editions of Vogue (!!!) Which they'll let you take into the cafe part, I think, unless they won't, and I've just been doing it illegally, in which case I'm sorry, I won't do it again ... but I will.

How many stars are we at? I have no freaking idea. One? That's not fair. Let's make it three. Congratulations, Trident. You're slightly more than merp. Your sweet potato fries conquer all.

Yes, I know all about the "famously aloof" waitstaff.  I've heard all about it from family, I've heard all about it from friends and I've certainly experienced it myself.  But one thing you don't mess around with is coffee!!!  When I have to wait around for an hour for a coffee refill, there's a serious problem.  That's the point where the cute little "famously aloof" waitstaff turns from pseudo-charming to serious problem.  Please in the future...consider the coffee situation of your patrons.

Last year, with lap top, notebook and work in tow, I popped into Trident on cold day and proceeded to try to find a seat with a plug nearby, when from behind me, a disgruntled voice bellowed:

"We don't have plugs up there. You have to sit in the back."

This was an employee, whether a server or hostess, I am not sure. No 'hello.' No 'how can I help you?' Just two rude sentences slapped together which have since kept me from returning to Trident.

After silently boycotting the joint for a few seasons, today I threw in the towel and posted up for a quick lunch meeting with Miss Trish F. Not only was the service quick and friendly, but the the Vegan Cashew Chili was fantastic. Piping hot, loaded with kidney beans and cashes, served with a little roll perfect for sopping up the tomato and vegetable juices.

Trident, I forgive you. Perhaps this Fall and Winter, I will return to order more of this chili. while watching the people saunter by on Newbury. Once my computer battery runs out, I will move to the back where you have plugs and order some espresso. Maybe I'll even browse your books. Though it might be too soon for that kind of commitment.

I'm giving Trident 3 stars because of the pleasant atmosphere. They have a good selection of books and magazines, and always have a bunch of books on sale. But their cafe, in my experience, is quite lacking. I had a wrap, which was the most pathetic looking sandwich I've ever seen. I'm not sure if there was anything in there but mayo. The waitress forgot our appetizer order and messed up my order the first time around. The sweet potato fries were soggy and didn't come with the dipping sauces it was advertised with. The service was horrible and the food was overpriced for what it was. I think from now on, I might just stick to beverages.

I came here for dinner about a month ago with my cousin. She spends her time working at a McDonald's and unhappily eating the food there because it is free for her, so she was eager to see-- and I was eager to show her-- all the delicious edibles Boston has to offer. We ended up here by accident; I was going to take her to Petit Robert's, not realizing that reservations there are essential. Maybe that says something about the kind of restaurant I usually frequent.

We needed something nearby, and something with food my cousin would eat-- so, no Indian, no Thai, alas. I had been to the bookstore half of Trident before, and figured the cafe half had to be all right. You can't go too wrong with all-day breakfast. The ambience and menu selection already reminded me of restaurants I missed in my former college town, and of a bookstore/cafe in DC that I had loved.

We actually found service to be quick, and believe me, that's saying something considering how hungry we were. Our waiter was friendly, charming, and dare I say, flirtatious. (Maybe my cousin and I are just fabulously attractive people.)

We both ordered cafe mochas, as it had been freezing cold for October that day, and we could smell them before our waiter brought them to our table. Mugs of wonderful espresso and chocolate warmed us from head to toe.

My cousin got the deluxe grilled cheese (on challah bread?!) with sweet potato fries. I had trouble deciding between, well, everything, but decided to go for a breakfast option and got the huevos rancheros. It was the side of plantains that clinched it for me. I'm a sucker for plantains.

My huevos rancheros were everything I wanted and were just the right amount of food to fill me up. I knew I couldn't go wrong with breakfast! I'll have to come back for the lemon ricotta french toast sometime, too. And maybe try out the deluxe grilled cheese and sweet potato fries that were sending my cousin into food heaven.

We were too full for dessert, alas, but perfectly contented nonetheless. I'll be back again, perhaps next time to take advantage of the Wi-Fi and pretend to be a hipster kid, working on my novel. Or something like that.

The bookstore half: Do I even have to say? It's a bookstore, therefore, it is a Good Thing. I found delightful selections everywhere I turned.

Once again Joey and Amanda have brought me to a place that I wish I either lived in Boston or they would move to Worcester.  I don't see anything moving from Boston to Worcester any time soon so I guess I'll just have to move to Boston!

We were together for wedding stuff and decided to ttackle breakfast before taking on the task of getting suits for the wedding.  On a glorious fall day we walked into Trident and squeezed into line.  Lots of people, lots of books, little room.  But that's Boston, that's bookstores and that's Trident.  I loved it all.  We had to wait just a bit for our table since we were 4 but looking at all the books as I'm an avid reader was not such a bad thing.

Our waitress came over with a real smile and took our order.  I had a chance to look around the cafe over strong, perfect coffee.  Prints of local art were for sale on the walls.  Local? Originals?  dunno.  But they were for sale.
Food came!  My egg sandwich was pretty amazing.  The fat toasted english muffin was topped with egg, bacon and lots of cheese!  wow...not a low cal breakfast for sure but it sure satisfied my diner crave for breakfasts (its a Worcester thing).   Joey and Matt's lemon ricotta stuffed french toasts were eye popping.  I had a bite and well, needed more.  Thank God they're my kids so I can demand them to give me more and they have to.  Mandah got the breakfast burrito.  HUGE is just the right word for it and I didn't hear a sound from Mandah as she devoured it.  Must have been scrumptious!

This is another reason why I must move to Boston sometime in my life.  The restaurants alone are worth it.

Whenever I am on Newbury Street, I visit this place for only one reason, to use the men's room. I've never eaten here until about a month ago. I came with my cousin who was in town for the day.

We both ordered the Tuna Melt and LOVED IT. Plus our waitress was very friendly. The service was fair!

Will definitely come back!

OK Trident, I gave you a chance to redeem yourself today. I think I might officially be giving up on you...

The hostess seated me right away.
The waitress took my order.
20 minutes later the hostess brings me coffee.
Then the hostess brings me my chili.
Then a totally different waiter gives me a refill and gets my check.

I'm so disappointed in the service but so in love with the food. What to do?

Wait, what?  I've been on Yelp no less than three years and I haven't reviewed Trident yet?  Blasphemy!

I first fell in love with Trident when I lived less than a block away and I lost hours and days perusing the book selection.

Then, I went in for a midday midweek meal when I was working a conference at the Hynes.  I sidled up to the bar and nearly peed myself from excitement that I could order breakfast so late in the day.  The pancakes and fruit were out of this world.

Fast forward about 5 years and I finally had time to while away another couple hours recently, and I had a proper lunch.  Sure, my salad was far too small for the price, but it was tasty.  But people,

THE SWEET POTATO FRIES

holy all things good in this world, these were the best sweet potato fries that have ever passed through my lips.  Quite possibly one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life.

I can't f*cking wait to get back there to completely gorge myself over and over and over again with these bad boys.

I also want to try some of their bubble teas.  But priorities.

I LOVE Trident. I used to live a block away, now I'm on the West Coast but still come back to Boston every now and then for work- whenever I do, I make sure to hit up Trident again. Their food is fresh & delicious, and have added some new menu items that are great too. Perfect brunch spot, although I love it for lunch or dinner too! It can be slightly cramped and isn't fancy, but it is comfortable and the food is just plain yummy.

Some of my favs: breakfast burrito. It's.Just.So.Damn.Good.
Morning Monte Cristo (minus the meat for me since I'm veggie)- the PERFECT bfast for those who can't decide between sweet & savory. Best of both worlds. Fresh toast is out of control.

Really good granola & fruit yogurt- I rarely get this b/c there are so many other more exciting things on the menu, but they do a good job w/ the simple stuff too.

Momos- friggin' delicious. Get steamed, trust me.

Avacado & Havarti melt- disgusting (in a good way) amount of avacado & cheese..... so yummy and crazy filling.

Ok, I'm going to stop before I list the whole menu. You get the idea. It's all damn good.

Welcoming, friendly staff and a big menu that is heavy on eggs, bread and cheese are some features of this place. For me, the winning combo of books and brunch makes this place worthy of a visit, although I can't really rave about the food. It's good- just not outstanding. BUT, as a book lover, I am in heaven when I see a restaurant morphing into a bookstore. Why don't more places create this blissful harmony?

I've been here many times with friends and family, and I like it. When we are with kids, they can wander over to the book section and come running back with books that they absolutely have to have. How fantastic is that?

I have to say that when I am in the neighborhood and ask, Where shall we go for brunch? it is always one of the names that pops up. The food will not blow you away in terms of creativity, but you will not leave with an appetite, as their portions are huge. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to check out the latest best sellers and satisfy any literary cravings you may be dealing with. Such a nice combination.

One of the last best coffee houses in Boston.  EXCELLENT FOOD.

The staff in this place is not only friendly but highly educated.  Since Bostonians have allowed its city to be overrun by heartless chains like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts.. places that give NOTHING back to the community.. the city has lost a part of its soul.  Newbury street still has yet to be raped of its landmark Cafe which you can spend hours enjoying great books and delicious food.

Ah, the blissful harmony of coffee, a hearty meal, and an intellect-nourishing book. What more can one ask for?

Trident offers academes the ability to look cool and feel cooler sipping a fresh-squeezed juice in style while gazing intently into the collected works of Poe...or Marx...or Jacqueline Suzanne.

Great selection (you'll almost always come out with something you didn't know you needed to have), and the food, service, and ambiance are all top-notch.

I see why people love you, but I don't.

You are kind of pretentious and overpriced.    That is within a normal range of expectations because since when were art and pretension not overpriced?  You do have that certain allure about you, as if you were a handsome boy whose brooding melancholy, cultivated by many years of reading the likes of Nietzsche and Heidegger, teeming with oooooooohhhhh that geek chic sexiness that just makes a girl want to take you home and make you happy.

I get you, alright.  I just don't like you.

Trident is a great little bookshop that feels like it shouldn't be on one of Boston's most expensive streets, which is part of its appeal for me. Deep inside the store surrounded by narrow book shelving really takes you out of the metropolitan cityscape. The collection of books I've been happy with, prices are fine, and the sizable cafe right inside has plenty to offer. It makes a great break from the rest of your rushed Bostonian day.

I love and miss you, Trident; you perfectly dainty bookstore with inexpensive books and delicious, freshly made food. My chicken quesadilla was huge and cheesy, the hummus and pita chips were homemade, and freshly prepared. I love how I could watch Dr. Strangelove as I sipped on blueberry ale and munched on food, right next to the stack of books I just had to buy...
You're a dangerous place for me and my credit card, but I love you nonetheless.

This place is decent.  Most important thing: most people probably go here because of the location, as it doesn't get much better (Newbury St).

I really like the bright lights at the cafe and low-key vibe...and spend way too much time drink cup after cup after cup of tea (more hot water, please!).  Tea is about $3-4 for the leaves, unlimited hot water.  The real reason I go there, though, is b/c they close at midnight and I am a night-owl.

Meals are on the pricey side and the chicken wrap I had once was just like chicken and lettuce and a tortilla thrown together, although the Fajitas and the Chicken Quesidillas were both A- (A+ if they were spicier).  About $13 each.

The service isn't 5-star but I don't really expect that and frankly I'm not sure I would prefer a full-service over a self-service Starbucks-type place anyways.  Servers are generally positive, I tip according to quality of service anyways.

Their selection of books is supposed to be pretty cool but I can't attest to this as I bring my own book.

Before I moved to Boston I thought to myself that this is a quintessential Boston spot: a cafe with a bookstore attached: this must be where the MIT and Harvard professors hang out. I have visited a few times since and it turns out to be a regular person's spot, no PhD necessary! The waitresses are sweet and not pretentious. The atmosphere is very comfortable, but if the lights were a bit dimmer that would be better. The patio is cool, but slanted. The book and magazine selection is very nice and I could spend hours there. Free wi-fi is cool, too. Their lightly breaded and fried buffalo chicken tenders were fantastic.

While visiting with a friend of mine in Boston, she invited us out to her trivia locale, which happened to be Trident. Unfortunately, the trivia guy had to cancel last minute due to a problem back home, but that left the cafe a little quieter and with plenty of space to move about. I'm not sure how they fit everyone in that tiny bookstore for trivia!

The first thing I noticed were the fresh juices. They were not your typical orange juices! I wound up with a beet and citrus concoction that was fabulous. I love beets, so this drink was right up my alley! It's definitely only for the more adventurous palette, though, so keep that in mind before you order and shock your taste buds. :)

My friends and family all had sandwiches of some sort which looked delicious, but I settled for the Trident Fries - a mixture of fried potatoes, beets, and sweet potatoes. It was delicious! Nothing seemed greasy or over-salted. Everyone seemed to enjoy picking off my basket, which was definitely large enough for the five of us to share.

The store itself is very quaint inside and while I didn't get a chance to mill around much, it definitely adds some charm to an otherwise busy, expensive part of Boston. The entire place screams "northeastern history" to me, and I loved it. I highly recommend checking it out for the food, a shake, or even if you're just trying to find another paperbook to peruse.

I really love it when bookstores have a cafe, but there must be something about the species that necessitates ridiculously bad service.  Atticus in New Haven has this same problem.  When you come in, if you want a table you almost always have to wait for a good long while for anyone to notice you.  On the other hand, if you sit at the bar pretty much no one notices you.  I've waited here 10-15 minutes or longer in the past before anyone took my order.  Once you get served, the food is pretty good, but woe betide you if you need something else or have to adjust the order.

That said, I want to support the place and it's cozy and warm and has free wireless.  And since they finally added power outlets (at the bar only), I'm going to up my review by a star.  So, four stars for you, Trident.

Friggin' wonderful selection of both books and food.
Makes me feel at home.
Waiter doesn't flinch when I ask for a veggie quesadilla without cheese.
Delicious chocolate chip cookies!
Huge variety of moleskin journals if that's your thing.
LOVED how they played the entire Tour de France throughout July.
Really lovely waiters and patrons.
Great location. On Newbury Street with grand windows to watch the passerbys and feel the sunlight.
Nice open space.
Open til midnight :D

Too pricey!

Please note that this is not a food review, but a review on the service.  Read on...

We went in there one night, and the waitress accosted us with how many were in our company.  Since I had a soda drink from a nearby store, she asked for me to finish it in the bookstore section before joining the rest of my party.  I thought that was fair.  After all, they are running a business, and they don't want customers bringing in food from other places.  Fair enough.

However, as the rest of my party decided to wait along with me (oh, they're such great friends!) and browse through the book section, the waitress decided to mutter something to a nearby customer to the effect of how stuck-up we out-of-towners were.  What?  We said "ok and we'll be back in a few min", and she responded with that?  Unfortunate for her (and the restaurant), one of my friends overheard that.  So we decided to take the high row and left the cafe.  Think the valuable lesson here is to not malign your customer or potential customer.  Otherwise, be prepare to lose a big sale (we had a large party with us) and have that be reflected on the honorable Yelp website!

I really enjoy Trident for a breakfast/brunch destination. On a beautiful day there is little better then grabbing a seat outside, sipping on some coffee, munching on a breakfast burrito, and scoping out the hot bods on Newbury St.

The prices won't break the bank, a rarity for a place on newbury street. You pay for what you get, and the quality is just that much better then the typical greasy spoon breakfast joint.

The staff has always been very nice, and pleasant to converse with. I sat at the bar the other day, and chatted it up with the bar staff. Some really great people.

My only complaint is that it is a bit tight. If you're sitting outside, be prepared to get friendly with your neighbors, because you're kind of squeezed in there.

Overall, Trident is a very solid joint if you're looking for a cup of joe, some decent grub, and/or a chill spot to get some work done. A destination for anyone heading up and down Newbury.

I've been going to the Trident for years.  At first, I didn't like it because the service seemed to be almost deliberately bad.  I like to sit at the bar there (which serves coffee, smoothie AND and alcohol drinks) but sometimes the waitstaff would stand around instead of do their job.  Commonly I would think, "Look, I'm sorry that your screenplay isn't made into a movie.  Can I just get that coffee I ordered?"

Anyways, they overhauled the cafe and hired more responsive staff--awesome staff actually--and while they charge a bit too much for food, you can sit there and read the really expensive magazines while getting endless refills of coffee.

Why there aren't more places like this in Boston is a mystery.  But I guess we're lucky to at least have one.

The addition of outdoor seating may yet save this Newbury Street landmark.

Decent food and vegetarian friendly, modest prices overall and cheap wine by the bottle. Excellent people watching in good weather, Trident is on the sunny side of the street in the afternoon and early evening, a combination that makes outside seating occasionally hard to get.

Recommended.

I've had better. I came in for lunch cause they had an outside patio. It didn't look like anyone was serving out there so I went inside and asked if I should order in. Then she said someone will be out, so I sat and a waitress arrived shortly after.

I got the Trident Chicken Salad wrap. Chicken salad with grapes, celery and walnuts (there were out of walnuts). It was blah. There was more lettuce then chicken salad practically. Half way through the wrap, was all lettuce. Then some stale chips on the side. For the $11 price tag is was a rip off. Most prices on the menu were marked up way more then they should. Yeah Ok, its Newbury St. but we are talking simple stuff like sandwiches, eggs, waffles. No need to get close to $15 for one of those.

The inside dining section looked a little outdated, like Bickfords esqe. Outside they stuffed too many tables on too small a patio, leaving 6 inches of room to get out of your chair past your table and its on a slope so you have the annoying shaking table to deal with .

So yeah I wasn't impressed with the food, atmosphere or prices. I'm sure they have a cool book selection but for dining I'd go some place else.

I absolutely love this bookstore/café.  This place is like a pocket protector, where it protects you from any cold and bad feelings that would ever arise.  Just pull this protector out, whenever you need a fuzzy feeling!

It is a wonderful place to have brunch and take those out of town guests for a unique experience in Boston.  After all, you are on Newbury Street and you can people watch inside or even briefly outside.  Even not with guests, it is a relaxing and humble environment to be in - good food, good drinks and good books.

I am only familiar with the brunch menu but let me just say that it is very good and fresh food!  You get this homey vibe in the store, and automatically assume the food will be EH.  Well, the food is great and I've never had any complaints about service yet!

-Breakfast Burrito--one of my favorites fill with egg, mushrooms, avocado, onion and cheese served with a side of salsa.  It is so soft, fresh and smooth when you bite in, spiced with just enough salt and pepper as well.

-Frittata- imagine an open-faced omelette topped with bacon, tomato, cheese and scallions.  This is a light dish but will totally fill you up.   A great order if you want something simple, but will hit that breakfast craving.

-Morning Monte Cristo- made with fried eggs, Canadian bacon, raspberry jam, cheese and sandwiched in Challah French Toast Bread!  The bread is what make the sandwich unique.  It is so soft and has a hint of cinnamon and egg.  **Note: This is somewhat a messy dish because of the jam and almost runny egg!

I've also had a few bites of others..:

-Lemon Ricotta French Toast- so good for a sweet tooth!  Very big serving, so don't be surprised!

-Potato Chuckwagon- this dish is good for hangovers!  It is very greasy but tasty.

-Smoked Salmon Scramble- this was just average for me.  A little bit too salty I feel and not as exciting of a dish as I anticipated.

Don't forget also about their extensive drink menu.  Lots of coffee and tea selections and fresh juices! My favorite is the Viennesse Expresso, served in a Jumbo Cup!  2 or 3 shots of espresso with steamed milk, whip cream and chocolate syrup! Quite a grand drink, but so delicious.

The best part is breakfast is all day and they are open until midnight.

If I could like, HUG, a place I would hug Trident. I've got sweet warm fuzzies as I sit in my California living room day-dreaming about this amazing little bookstore and cafe.

In addition to being one of the most affordable places on Newberry, it's so San Francisco-like, I felt like I was at home.

I love that they've kept a little indi book store alive with a thriving cafe stocked with great tea's and amazing food.

I first discovered this captivating little spot on a business trip a few years ago and every time I go back to Boston, it's a MUST stop.

I've become addicted to stealing sweet potato fries off of my boyfriend's plate. These were perfect. Not too cooked, not soggy, not oily... perfect.  My boyfriend ordered a prosciutto sando, packed with goodies on a roll that looked so good I stole a "no meat" bit.  He was way impressed by how much he LOVED his lunch.

However. I was the big winner. Steamed vegetarian Tibetan dumplings. AMAZING. (My mouth actually just watered this second just thinking about them.)  You must go to Boston and try them. Worth the plane ticket. Kidd you not.

The service was great. Way friendly but super casual. I felt like I was in college at a Chili's where one of my best friends was waiting on me. It was just comfortable and quick.

What sucked? The coffee. My boyfriend's cappuccino was undrinkable. We laughed at how bad it was before heading out to get another somewhere else.

And yeah. It's a little pricey. Our lunch was 40 bucks.... but they do take American Express ;)

I'll tell you why I respect the Trident.  In this day and age, you have to be creative to run a thriving, lively bookstore.  And Trident has mastered it: they have an adoreable cafe with lovely seating and good food.  Let's face it, more than half of the people in Trident are there for the cafe, which is a leisurely spot for reading, doing work, and munching on some food.  As for the books, Trident actually has a decent collection -- the fiction is pretty strong, they always have quality new hardcovers, and, much to my surprise, they have a great collection of literary journals in the magazine section.

Also, if you're in Back Bay and you need to use a bathroom, Trident is the place.

Awesome bookstore but whoa, overpriced food!

The veggie chili is delish but for 6 bucks I want two bowls.

I've had drinks and breakfast food here. I'd take a pass on the egg cream and thai chai drinks, but the waffle sundae was pretty good. This place is not cheap but I was able to chat and study--so it was worth it. Tip: if you're thinking about becoming a frequent flyer, they've got a loyalty card, which lets you rack up a 20% discount, I think.
