this gym was a little out of my way, cause i didn't really pay attention to the location when i bought my kgb deal for this place. i only went to this gym for two weeks before i went to asia for vacation.

these is the first floor where you come in, then a floor below with cardio equipment and massage room, and finally the lowest level with high muscle training and locker rooms. they had a lot of cardio equipment than people that needed to use them. the locker rooms were kind of small though.

there's practically no one here on sunday so you almost have everything here to yourself. i guess people in tribeca don't mind having big bellies.

i rate this place is a good mom and pop gym mainly because i never really had to wait to use any of the equipment here.

I got a Groupon or deal site related coupon to use this gym... Actually when I went in, I said I had a Groupon and in a rude voice back by the front desk person that I didn't have a Groupon, that it was another deal related site.   Just generecizing ... no need to be rude.  So I was put off by the rudeness of first signing up but I don't go to the gym to be around nice people and be treated well.  I go to treat myself well and to work out.  So past the initial encounter with the staff.

I'm currently in my month membership right now.  I'd definitely sign up for a whole year if I wasn't broke.  Considering I'm broke, I don't think this gym is expensive at all for what you get.  It's about $80 a month... very affordable... to others.

Although the gym is underground, it doesn't smell stale or gross down there.  They must have a good ventilation system.  I've gone to an underground gym before and wanted to puke, but this one has good lighting and ventilation so it doesn't bother me too much that there's no windows here.   Pretty clean place. Good working machines that don't stick or clunk.

Anytime I've gone, it's been pretty empty compared to NYSC or Complete Body and Spa.  I've gone about 6-8PM on weekdays, which is usually packed at other gyms.

Right off the blue and red line... like literally right off it so easy to get to for those of you living on those lines.

After writing what I thought was a very nice review of the gym, and mentioning that I did not think the owner, Mike, was very friendly during our brief interaction, I awoke this morning to a phone call from him at 7am saying that we had never met (which is untrue, and he later realized he had mixed me up with someone else). When I told him that I thought it was totally inappropriate for him to be calling me about this, much less at 7am, he went off on some rant about my Yelp review, and so I hung up on him. He immediately called me back and left a message, mentioning information from my drivers license and my current address, saying that he hoped "we can meet up sometime and straighten this out. You live at xxx, RIGHT?" It was clear he was trying to cajole me into taking down my review by reminding me he had my personal information on file. This is a first. I've since contacted the police.  I gave this business 4 stars, but I give Mike -1000000 for his inappropriate treatment of clients, so I'll round it out and make it 2 stars.

    This was my original review:

LOVE the Zumba class here! Got it through a Lifebooker deal. The instructor, Aija?, is beyond awesome. She's a little thing who looks like she could kick your ass while still looking good. The class has great music, is never more than 10 people (not a testament to her popularity, more likely the gym's..) and it's hard enough that my muscles are sore 2 days later, but not so intense you leave early. She's full of energy, but not in an annoying way, which is such a hard balance in these classes. The gym was pretty...bare bones. I mean, they have everything you need, but I wouldn't say it's a particularly pleasant experience to be there. I think partly because the building is essentially underground, so there's no windows. I can only really vouch for the classes, since that's all I've taken, but I just wish I had purchased more vouchers on Lifebooker! I'll just have to wait until they come up again.

Also, everyone on the staff was very friendly towards me, with the exception of who I believe is Mike, the manager/owner.

So I got one of those deals but unfortunately let it expire. As a result, I went in and asked the manager (or perhaps owner, I'm not sure) if I can put the value toward a membership or classes at the gym.

Essentially, the answer is yes, but I was really put off by his attitude toward me. He was pretty condescending, to the point where I felt like he was mocking me for letting so much time pass before I decided to use the voucher. He even snapped "you don't work out right now, do you??" in a way that implied I was either lazy or incompetent... maybe both.

Won't be returning... they can have the $ I paid for the voucher... sunk cost is better than being talked down to. Much rather spend my money on a place where I won't feel patronized. I just finished a 2-week boot camp and the hardcore trainers were a million times more pleasant than the Tribeca Health and Fitness rep I encountered.... guess I'll be returning there instead!

I did a group-purchase deal for this center for one month. I am not a big "going to the gym" fan (I'm more of a spin/kickboxing/zumba kind of nerd), but this place was good.  Their monthly deals seem just about right, but you get what you pay for. I never took a group class because I could never seem to fit it in my schedule (plus the Fight Club classes weren't available on my deal, and that's something that would interest me). On the other hand, it was never crowded, even at peak times like early a.m. or after work.  Another thing to note is if you are a morning workout person (like me), there are only two showers in the locker room (ladies, no clue about the situation in the men's room).  I never had a problem but sometimes, there might be a wait (usually not long).

If I lived closer, I would consider becoming a member; alas, I can't justify having a membership living where I live.  But if you live or work in the Tribeca area, you should definitely consider this place over other chain and nationally known fitness centers.  You get what you pay for.

There is good reason that all my schoolmates frequent this place 5-7 times a week.

This is a no-fuss-no-wuss gym that is all about getting your work-out on. People here are serious about their training and you cannot ask for anything more when you yourself need to get in shape. The owner is a cool dude who takes time to talk to his clients and gets to know them. I'm pretty sure he knows everyone who walks through the doors of his gym and knows their every routine within the gym.

The gym is three floors that go underground.

Ground floor - entrance, help desk, and juice bar
Second floor - Cardio and some all around machines; also a fitness gym in the back that I have yet to try
Third floor - Heavy weights and machinery; you'll find guys with biceps that are bigger than the longest yelp reviews

There are plenty of deals flying around the web for a month or three for super cheap... but the actual deal when you walk in is just as good. This is the best deal on a gym you can get in Tribeca so make sure you take advantage of it!

I joined Tribeca Health and Fitness about three weeks ago because I bought a coupon for a two month membership at $50.  This includes taking the NYLean25 classes, which take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for free, and 1 free 60-minute session with a personal trainer.  This seemed like an amazing deal, especially for a gym membership in Manhattan and after my third week working out at Tribecca Health and Fitness, I'm convinced that this was money well spent.

I have to warn you - this isn't some fancy schmancy luxury gym.  If you're looking for something like that, Tribeca Health and Fitness isn't it.  It's a pretty basic gym with three floors.  The first floor is the entrance and where you're greeted by the gym's employees.  They're all nice and ask you if you'll be needing any towels (large or small, free of charge).  This section is where beverages, protein shakes, healthy meals, and t-shirts are sold.  The second floor is where you have all of your cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, etc) and your weight machines - this is where I hang out the most.  The third floor is the free weight floor where lots of buff males (and some awesomesauce females) do some serious lifting.  Oh, and the locker rooms are down there as well.

All in all, Tribeca Health and Fitness is clean with helpful staff.  If you're serious about working out several times a week and you don't care that there's no sauna or steamroom in the locker rooms, then this is a good place to go.  It's affordable and all you really need to shed some unwanted flab and pounds.

After repeatedly seeing this gym on those Groupon deals, I gave in and purchased the month membership.

This gym is the cheapest in the Tribeca and Financial Center. Period. So if you're in it to save some dough this is it, do not read on just go join.

The layout of the gym is a tad strange. Your standard check-in desk with overpriced energy drinks and snacks is on the ground level. Free towels are also available here. You walk down the steps and you are now on the cardio level or as others may know it the basement (yes, that means no windows and lots of mirrors). Lots of treadmills, bikes, elliptical, and of course my favorite 2 REAL step machines. All of the equipment is pretty modern with a TV and control attached. Moving away from the cardio towards the back of the room in what appears to be a long hallway, you will see some of the muscle making machines for legs and arms. You will also see exposed brick and mirrors.. however the mirrors aren't lined up so you could see yourself on the machines which kind of upsets me because looking at myself at the gym is the best part...

Continuing down the steps to the subbasement is the sausage party; the men using the real deal weights, grunting, and sweating profusely. Occasionally there is a milf down here pretending to do something hard with the weights, juice-heads get a clue they are just lonely. The bathrooms are also down here. On the plus side, they are clean bathrooms and on the negative side, they aren't luxurious (fine I'm partially spoiled and a gym snob). I would definitely avoid taking a shower here, but again that's just me and comparing it to other gyms I have been to; shout out to David Barton gym for spoiling me.

Lastly, when you're in the subbasement don't be scared when the floor shakes, loud noise occurs, it is not an earthquake it is just the train passing through every 15 minutes...

It's a phenomenal gym! I moved out of the neighborhood and had to cancel my membership and was treated really sweetly by Mike even though I was leaving. He runs a clean organized gym where you can truly get your workout on.

Wished I still lived in Tribeca to take advantage! Hi Mike!!

I would like to issue a formal challenge to anyone that can find a better bang for the buck gym on the tropical island of Manhattan.  This spot opened up at some point in the last couple years with a $59 / month plan, and I believe (read: hope) that it is making life quite difficult for all of the other over-priced Tribeca gyms ($150+ / month).

Tribeca Health and Fitness has the full range of equipment that one could ever envision.  There's multiple versions of all equipment types which covers the range from light weight lifters to serious body builders.  I've never had to wait for any cardio or weight machines.  They keep the place sparkling clean (something I was not expecting at $59 / month) and it never seems crowded.

I will say that they are light on supplemental classes (yoga, spinning, cross, weird dancing, etc.), HOWEVER since you're only spending $59 / month, you have plenty of money to go sign up for whatever extra classes you need to keep active (your monthly gym membership doesn't pay for other people's classes here...).

I also experienced the worst customer service by Mike, who is either the manager or owner. My boyfriend remembers him as the short older guy who had taken the start up gym fees.

Unfortunately for me, I paid a couple hundred dollars in start up fees when I joined this gym. A week later, I was involved in a very serious accident that landed me in the hospital for several months which didn't include the months of rehab I had to endure. My landlord was very understanding and only charged for the time my things were in the apartment...this gym was not. They didn't get my credit card number and were constantly calling my cell to pay more fees. My boyfriend kept telling them that I was in the hospital and was on a medical leave from my job which meant I had no money to give for a membership that I was unable to use. Considering that they were told on many occasions of this situation you would think they would be considerate and understanding. Nope. Since my boyfriend never heard from them again, he thought all was well. Nope, try again.

I receive a call from a collections company this past Friday. They stated that I owed them money. Mind you, I never got to use the gym because of this accident. I called this gym but Mike was out for the day. I finally reach Mike today and he told me that even though they were told that I was in the hospital, they needed to speak to me. Again, I told them that I was in the hospital for several months which meant the accident was quite serious in nature. He said you could of called us while you in the hospital...hmmm, I wonder how I would have been able to accomplish that with a tube down my throat and in a coma. He basically treated me as if I received a hand out from them. I again reminded him that I had paid them several hundred dollars for a service that I never got to use. He told me that he didn't have the time to deal with this. He further stated that I should have coughed up the money and told me to deal with the collections company.

I never got a chance to use the gym and I will never recommend them to anyone. Maybe its his napoleon complex or his ice heart that gives Mike his stank I don't care attitude. Mike and his gym only care about one thing that is how much money he can squeeze out of you or in my case what almost became my estate.
    ---------------------------------------------
    Response to Mike S.
Mike's response to my review is untrue. There may be people who have probably joined, used the gym and didn't pay...I was never one of those people. I paid for the fees when I DECIDED to join but I NEVER got to use the gym. My boyfriend has several reliable sources who can attest to the fact that he told them in plain English that I was in the hospital and would NOT be able to use their services. Not once did they advise him of their cancellation policy. To say that I spoke with them regarding payment after my accident is another complete fabrication on his part especially since I was unable to speak to my family let alone the gym. Mike's response truly shows the lack of common sense he and his gym have. If I was in the hospital how could I come in to sign the cancellation form (if they really had one back then) had they mentioned it to my boyfriend he would have had no problem signing on my behalf. Again, they never called after my situation was explained in detail to them which is why he thought this issue was moot. I highly doubt Mike really cares about my recovery since he was rude enough to hang up the phone on me earlier this evening. Listen to reviews written by people like Chrisina F. The attitude she describes is right in line with the way I was treated earlier this evening.

Thanks Mike for ignoring the privacy portion of Yelp's content guidelines. I never authorized you or your gym to publish my last name.

My new gym. Very spartan and a la cart, certainly no vinyasa flow yoga or late night power core classes. Basically you come here to work out. And isn't that the point? I don't need to bellydance, I need an elliptical, a treadmill, and a bike and I don't need there to be a huge line. This place is spacious clean and so far, never crowded. Front desk lady is nice, they make smoothies and have low-carb meals (like grilled steak and vegetables) prepackaged for a quick bite. It's not a meat market either, people get in, get it done and get out.

I read a lot of reviews before even calling any gyms.  I knew I didn't want one of the big chains.  I didn't want to spend $80 per month, but I also didn't want to get a membership to a ghetto place filled with broken, slimy equipment.  I was given a card to Tribeca Health & Fitness while exiting the subway into work, and it was a perfect match!  It reminds me a lot of my old gym in Atlanta, except it's a bit nicer and newer.

This brand new facility has brand new equipment and is never crowded (yet...this may change when more people discover this place).  Everything is very clean and the staff is really nice and helpful.  They have free towel service and I'm extremely happy with the quality of the place considering what I pay.  They advertise $66 per month with no contract, but I got a corporate discount on that, so compared to a lot of the big chains I got a great deal.

More plusses: every cardio machine has its own television (just bring your headphones), and they'll be starting group classes soon!

This gym is now my home gym. I am here every day, training my clients.

Im pretty happy i found this gym. Its great choice between too fancy health club and hardcore gym.

You have abt 40 treadmills + milion different cardio machines with the floor full of brand new nautilus machines.

If you walk downstairs, you discover tons of free weights and benches, racks, smiths, leg area etc.
Dumbbells going from 1 - 150lbs so its also great for lovers of heavy lifting.

I will point out only few things from a bunch:

    - 2 squating racks
    - flat, incline, decline benchpresses
    - leg press, hack squat, old school vertical leg press
    - over 12 cable stations
    - mirrors everywhere
    - clean

all this stuff for pretty cool price.

This is your new gym. Period.

I've now worked in Tribeca for 3 years. Over that time I belonged to the various large-name gyms one might expect. Franchizes with recognizable names. Then a buddy referred me to Tribeca Health and Fitness. Not gonna lie, I had my doubts walking in. It's just a door with a humble little sign outside.

The inside blew my socks off. The newest equipment I had seen (machines that I didn't even know existed), one  floor dedicated to cardio and another to free-weight lifting, a huge dance/yoga studio (where I coincidentally come and self-practice yoga in the mornings sometimes with no problems), fantastic (read: ripped) trainers walking around and helping out, pristinely clean everything (from locker rooms the free weights themselves), not overly crowded, and oh yeah IT WAS 50% THE PRICE OF EVERY OTHER GYM IN THE AREA.

It's like I died and went to gym heaven. Couldn't ask for a better deal. They have a ton of classes too (boxing, salsa, cardio, boot camp, yoga, the works) that a lot of people like.

Sorry other sports clubs, but I'll take clean, cheap, and comprehensive versus expensive, dirty, and over crowded any day.

The downside is that this is the only location in the city... but in my opinion that's also a plus side. I love that the gym owner/manager knows my name and gives me crap every time I walk in the door.

Aight, well enough said. If you just moved to the area, or even if you're already somewhere else, it's definitely in your best interest to check this place out. It's a no-brainer. Every friend I've shown this gym has ended up joining.

I went out a tour-de-gym in the financial district today, and Tribeca H&F was the first stop on the trip. Here are a few thoughts:

       * The newest and cheapest gym I saw. Set up on three levels underground, so not much natural light.
       * I was taken around by the general manager who gave a great tour and largely stayed away from the hard sell tactics that some gyms use to get you to sign immediately.
       * Impressive array of new machines, and a lot of them. All cardio machines had individual TVs on them.
       * Locker room was fair, but not great -- no steam room or sauna, but they do provide soap and shampoo.
       * Unlike the other gyms I looked at (except John Street, which doesn't offer classes), they charge $25 to participate in a class. Other gyms have free classes.
       * Cost: There are 2 plans. The first is $199 initiation (discounted to $150 if I signed immediately) and $49/month. The second is flat $74/month, no initiation. Both are month-to-month, and you pay upfront for the first and last months.

I cross posted the full summary of gyms in the New York section of http://www.freeagentne..., a network for unemployed people. You can see the other 4 gyms there, or check out the corresponding Yelp pages for the others:

    -Equinox (downtown, Church St)
-New York Sports Club (downtown, broadway)
    -Complete Body John Street
    -Gold's Gym (downtown, Gold St.)

This gym is pretty awesome. After being a member at the YMCA, all I wanted was a place that was smaller, less crowded, and clean. Tribeca Health & Fitness does just that! And I spend EXACTLY THE SAME as I did at the Y! The only bummer for me is the classes they offer are never late enough for me to catch, and the fees for bringing in outside trainers is a little high for me (was going to try and convince my Y trainer to train me here! where there is space!). But otherwise, friendly staff, great post-workout smoothies, and a hidden gem in Tribeca. My boyfriend is a member, which is why I joined, but I'm very very happy i did. With my promotion I spent some money down but only 49/Mo!!!! Pretty amazing.

TVs on EVERY machine. Brand spanking new weight machines with dials for weights which is really cool, for someone like me who is uncoordinated. If I had one beef it would be that theres no real area to stretch and do sit up type stuff. Well, there is? But its in the middle of all the cardio machines which is a little awkward.

Noone else join, okay? Keepin it exclusive. Please and thank you!

    :)

Similar to another reviewer here, I too experienced AWFUL customer service. Except my experience involved the police. Yes, the POLICE. Essentially while attempting to sign up for a membership that I purchased through http://buywithme.com the rude manager got into a dispute with my friend over the validity of her membership purchase. Seeing how disgustingly rude and condescending he was being to her, I interjected to assist. Next thing we know we're being told to get the hell out and that we're now trespassing. WHAT? Unbelievable!!! I've never been so disrespected by an establishment in my life. Long story short, he ends up calling 911 to escort us out of his gym. I repeat, UNBELIEVABLE. Needless to say I'll be getting a full refund from buywithme. And being that I work for a nearby major wall street bank, I'll be sure to "spread the love" and the word to my colleagues and friends about this poor excuse for an establishment. Unless you enjoy being treated like trash, avoid TriBeCa Health and Fitness at all costs!!!

I had many gym memberships in the past and I can honestly say that Tribeca H&F kicks butt.

They took over some totally ghetto gym, gutted it and dumped a crazy amount of cash into this space. Total transformation.
Brand new top of the line machines, maintained well (they even have the thredclimber).

You may even run into some pro bodybuilders when ever theres a show at the collage.

Prior to this gym I belonged to equinox for 2 years and NYSC for 5.
This place gives you no nonsense clean gym at super low price.
Trainer are friendly and members aren't snobs.

The space is always clean and has a wide variety of workout equipment. There is an increasing number of classes and you do not have to be a member to attend all of them which is a great perk. The front desk staff is very accommodating and friendly. They know people by name which I love! And you can't  beat the membership fee. It is very reasonable!

Tribeca Health and Fitness is a great gym if you live or work in the Tribeca/City Hall/BPC area.  Here are some of the good things about the gym:

    - The staff is professional
    - The gym is (very) clean
    - There are lots of weights and machines - never a wait for cardio machines, and rarely a wait for weights
    - It is never very crowded
    - No screamers
    - Good beverage/smoothie selection
    - Good location (Chambers and Church)
    - Well priced
    - Cheap classes - yoga, pilates, etc.

Before I joined I looked at the NY Sports on Reade and the Equinox on Murray.  TH&F is a lot nicer than NY Sports, and a lot more cost effective than Equinox.

Finally, easy to cancel so no real risk if you join!

PS:  They have dancing classes for kids.
