I've been searching for a good place to get my hair cut ever since my favorite stylist got so skilled and in-demand that it priced him out of my range. I wish him all the best, but I needed an alternative.

So, after cutting my own hair for awhile, I needed to de-punk and de-crazy my mop.

A lot of people have been recommending Tribeca for quite awhile and I tend to see them at art and fashion events around Tampa Bay, so I thought: why not?

Usually, when I call a salon about same-day open appointments, I get a reaction anywhere from laughter to disdain. I was ready for it, but it never came. The front desk organiz-ista was cordial, efficient, genuine, and seemed to be actually interested in fitting me in somewhere.

I arrived on my bike, sweaty and disheveled. Immediately upon opening the doors, I was refreshed with the scent of herbs and peppermint, which must grace all the shampoo products they use. For a color salon, I was really surprised that it didn't smell like a chemist's lab. They showed me the way to the restroom to freshen up and within a minute, I was a new person. The fabled "complimentary beverage" that the signs everywhere were purporting to be served would've completed the transformation from sweaty hog beast to person, but I guess you have to ask for one and I found that the words couldn't come out of my mouth without the accompanying "I'm a big dork" feeling, so I stayed mute.

My stylist, Chelsea, met me on time, if not a minute early, and gave me a thorough consultation. What did I want? How has it been cut before? She seemed very knowledgable about my type of hair (coarse, but thin) and really took into account how much time I'll actually spend styling my hair (none) before making her recommendations.

Let me cut to the chase: Chelsea rocks. Her recommendations were spot on and the cut she told me she was going to give me, she gave me. And without the huge pressure sell of products, although she let me know everything she was using, just in case.

The price for the cut was amazing, to be honest. I won't advertise it here, but there's a huge variance in prices for a mens' cut, anywhere from a 10 dollar barber cut to a 75 dollar Tampa-celeb-stylist cut. This was definitely the best priced, non-butchered cut I've ever received. For the first time, I felt like was paying for "value".

The atmosphere at Tribeca is kind of hipster/cool--with modern indie music playing in the background--while still being Hyde Park glam. Sure, there was the requisite International Plaza Diesel parade going on, but I seemed to blend in with my non-brand jeans and Darth Vader t-shirt as well. People checked each other out, but with smiles, not vague judgment.

I think I might have found a place that will keep me from taking the clippers to my own head!

i came here for a haircut style and coloring... the coloring is REALLY good. i dyed my hair an eggplant color and the colored stayed in my head for quite awhile. like about 4 months. i would definitely recommend them for hair coloring. the people who work there are also pretty cool. it's like a small cool family there... they also gave me a lot of tips about coloring and maintaining my hair.

the only thing i thought was ok was the actual hair cut. i bought in pictures of ideas i wanted the cut to look like, but the actual end result was not what i was hoping. it wasn't bad. it just wasn't what i was expecting.
