Duane did the inspection on my first house, and I liked his clear, thorough style so much that my husband and I called him when we were ready to buy the next house 5 years later. This guy is clearly into houses--seems toe know construction, plumbing and heat & air really well. I've learned a lot from him.

We were buying a house and the seller had order a home inspection report from some company. But our realtor recommended us to order our own home inspection just to be safe, so we used Tri-Star as they came highly recommended by our realtor. The result - we are so glad we got Tri-Star to inspect our new home!
Duane from Tri-Star spent a lot of time inspecting the house carefully and taking notes and photos. After he finished the inspection, he show us the photos on his computer right away and pointed out things that we need to repair and pay attention to. We had a lot of questions because it was the first time we used a home inspector, and Duane spent more than an hour just answering our questions and he was extremely patient and extremely detailed with information.
The most impressive thing was, Duane found a major problem that the seller's home inspector did not find! At the end, the seller paid for the repair which costs thousands of dollars. Tri-Star saved us thousands of dollars and we had a great experience with them. We also learned a lot about the house because Duane gave us a big binder with all kinds of helpful information.
I would highly recommend Tri-Star. -

I have worked with Duane Serrano and Tri-Star Home Inspections over nearly 10 years and have experience with him on inspections for both buyers & sellers and with all types of homes from small condos to historic homes to newer estates. He does a fantastic job all around and he is my #1 preferred home inspector.
My clients find Duane to be exceedingly detailed, both in the written report (delivered the same day) and as he discusses the property with them in person, which they appreciate. His color photos are a huge help for areas such as the crawl space and attic - consumers and real estate professionals don't have to guess at what he's describing, they can see it.
Duane's inspections are a true education and he really encourages buyers to attend so that they can learn about their future home. He's able to translate some of the technically complicated issues around homes and problems to make them understandable to agents, buyers and sellers alike. Additionally, Duane gives perspective and can propose "next steps" to address things that have cropped up or might if something is not managed. Sometimes it's a further inspection by a specialist (roof, electrical, plumbing, etc.) or a trip to the hardware store for a couple of inexpensive missing items that will make a huge difference in terms of safety.
Duane is great with people. Buyers and sellers are often nervous and a home inspector can make that worse - making it hard to go to the next decision of what to do with what's been learned. Duane's calm and balanced demeanor with an educational focus is exactly what is needed by both sellers and buyers.
When the inspection is all done, the consumer receives not just a typed out report with color photos, but also a large binder full of extremely useful information to help explain in depth the details regarding the report, the components of the home, and even replacement costs for down-the-road planning. It's a guidebook on the property and is an invaluable tool.
Finally, Duane's there for followup. An email or call to him to clarify things a few days later is fine - he's great at getting back to people when it's needed and my clients have appreciated not just his work on the day of the inspection, but his later responsiveness.
Duane gets my highest endorsement for the work he does as a home inspector in Silicon Valley. -

My husband and I just bought our first home. While the entire process was rather stressful and emotional, our home inspection was one of the few parts that went without a hitch. We were recommended by our real estate agent to use Duane at Tri-Star Inspection. After reading the other Yelp reviews we were expecting a high quality of service -- and that is exactly what we received. Duane was friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable in the entire process. As a first time home buyer, we knew we had a lot to learn. Duane provided us with a handy home inspection binder that provided explanation and details for each item on his report. He went through all of his findings in clear, easy-to-understand language and gave us tips on how to fix some items in the house ourselves down the road.
Hopefully we won't be moving any time soon, but when we do we will most definitely use his services again. We would highly recommend Tri-Star, especially for first time homebuyers. -

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
We just bought our first home. Prior to finalizing all the details, we reviewed the property report from the seller's inspector and decided to have our own inspection done. Duane explained all of the nuances with our new home in a comprehensible manner. With the inspection you receive a book/binder of detailed information about potential items of concern, ideas for upkeep, etc. which I'm sure will be valuable for years to come. But most importantly, Duane caught what the previous inspector missed: the fact that our heater that was spewing out carbon monoxide into the house. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Seriously, you probably saved our lives.
The inspection was so thorough that the sellers asked to use TriStar when they purchase their next house. -

I am extremely happy with the service we have received from Duane and Barbara at Tri-Star inspection. My wife and I bought our first home two years ago. Duane performed the inspection for the sale. He was extremely thorough in pointing out issues to look out for in the coming years. He provided a nice binder and an electronic copy of the inspection. What has been most impressive though is Duane's generosity with his time and information after the initial inspection. I have contacted Tri-Star with multiple questions regarding issues that have come up. Barbara or Duane always responds right away. Duane was even nice enough to come out to look into a situation I could not figure out. He is extremely knowledgeable and very good at explaining information. I highly recommend Tri-Star Inspections.

When it comes to inspectors there is only one we choose for all of our inspection needs and that is Duane Serrano, not only is he an amazing inspector but is a great guy as well. He is wonderful with our clients, and will go out of his way to educate them on the ins and outs of property condition, hazards, construction remedies and answer any question or concern our clients or our team may have. Also, having his wife Barbara handle day to day operations and back end support really helps make the business run smoothly. I would highly recommend Tri-Star Inspections for all your home inspection needs!

Agree with everyone else! I am a Realtor who refers Duane to my clients and they are always very pleased with his work. He is wonderful for first-time buyers as he will take the time to walk through the home with them not only explaining issues he sees, but telling them of maintenance items they should be aware of. Duane is a super valuable part of my real estate team and I highly recommend you make him part of your team too!

Duane was very efficient and helpful in alleviating our concerns about buying our first house "as is". He was very thorough and provides a VERY useful binder full of info about your house at the end of the inspection, complete with pictures and advice and helpful tips. He also said that we could call him at ANY time in the future to ask his advice on any projects before undertaking them.
When he was finished telling us all the minor fixes that were needed for our new home, he reassured us by telling us this was a great house, in a great neigborhood and that we were very lucky to get it.

We first learned about Duane and Tri-Star 6 months ago while thinking about making an offer on a house. The seller had used Duane's services and we were impressed with the quality of the property report. A few weeks ago we decided to make an offer on another house. This time, the seller had not obtained any inspections. We decided to hire Duane on our behalf (based on the quality of his previous report) and remain very impressed with his work. Duane is punctual, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. We were present during his inspection, and he took a great deal of time to point issues out to us, to explain their implications, and to answer any questions we had.
