Tres Portrillos is good for giant Mexican beers after work and fairly good food. Don't have too high of expectations. They will get your order wrong. Your beef chimichangas will be chicken. They'll forget to bring the tortillas but not forget to charge. They'll send some busboy to your table and he'll have a couple of plates of food and ask who wants what. You won't be impressed with the service but the food is not bad and a three dollar 24 oz Mexican import is okay by me.
Skip the Chilles Rellenos here. Somehow this is the only place in North America that broils a poblano stuffed with cheese or mashed potatoes and calls it a chilles relenos. No light crispy breading. No red sauce. Just a broiled chile with a little bit of nasty in it.
The chimichanga is okay here.
Faye S. is right. It's not San Francisco or LA so you should expect so much less from a Mexican restaurant. Then again, you won't get raped, mugged, murdered, or mudslided in the parking lot. I feel stupid for ordering a beer-o. I thought chicks would dig my Akron urban coolness but it's so amazingly cool that people like Faye S. are out there to point out what cool really is. California is so cool. They wear sunglasses there.
Another boring Ameri-Mex restaurant. It's probably about as good as Gran Fiesta, but not as good as Cozumel, and definitely not as good as Nuevo Acapulco.
It's kind of a toss-up as to whether you want to go here or to Chipotle or Taco Bell.
It's Akron, not San Francisco or LA. That said, the food is pretty good.
Some servers are not as attentive as others, but I had a good experience with my servers. Super friendly. Super fun.
What is up with the customers though?
"Let me practice my Spanish on you [to server.] For dessert I would like the ice-cream-o with the banana-o..."
lame-o.
This is certainly not the best Mexican food in the country, but for Akron it is among the best you will get. The other option worth checking out is Mariachi's.
I went there twice and had similar experiences both times. Very fast service Unfortunately the food is very bland and my chicken was overcooked. I had the fajitas last time. Tastes like there are no spices and they use very little cheese. Maybe it's been tempered for local tastes but they've gone to far.
Pretty decent Mexican food. Probably one of the better places in Akron. HUGE menu to decide from and great drinks as well.
