I love this swim.  It was the first open water race I did back in 2005 (!) and I  have come back for more each year since.

The swim is unique, deceiving with its straight shot along side the Bay Bridge.  It is challenging, but very satisfying, to keep a steady gaze on the Arrow Sculpture at the Embarcadero as it looms larger on the horizon.

The swim is organized pretty well, is for a good cause, and has many excellent snacks at the end.   It also has nice hot showers, hot tub, steam room, and sauna at the end to warm up.

My favorite organized Bay swim.

This is the big annual open water swim sponsored by the Embarcadero YMCA.  It was;

- Beautiful.   Best time of the year to swim the bay.
- Horrendously hard -- the currents are not predictable, even at this side of the bay.
- Well organized.  The top management down to the kayakers escorting us all knew what they were doing.

Double kudos for the kayakers -- they were sensitive to how weak a swimmer is compared to the current, and gave good directions based off of this.  This was very different from the kayakers at the Escape from the Rock triathlon.
