I visited Travessia Urban Winery because I was having company on both Friday and Saturday evenings and wanted to serve them something a bit more special than what I could have picked up at Douglas Liquors. I will admit to being more of a 'faux wine' drinker, preferring the sweeter white zins and reislings so I was a bit confused as to what I should buy for our good friends who were coming. A helpful and knowledgeable woman working behind the counter suggested a red wine called "Jester", so I purchased some along with a couple of other selections. The wine that she suggested was excellent, and even though I lean more toward the lighter, sweeter rose' types, I loved it! It was bold on the tongue but seemed light as air once you swallowed. I've never experienced a wine that had that effect and I initially thought that my friends who were more "seasoned" wine lovers than I would poo-poo it for that reason. To my surprise, and my delight, my company liked it every bit as much as I did. When you're entertaining friends, treat them to something really special.......visit Travessia Urban Winery and choose from their wonderful selection of local wines. And try "Jester" red wine!!

Wonderful service and the wine is different and exciting.

My only complaint is that they don't have great hours.  Only open a few days a week.

Great fun. Some nice balance to the unrelenting pastoral beauty of most coastal wineries. Their stuff is....coming along. I can't say that they're yet succeeding in the red department (this is a problem region-wide). But some fun whites. And it's just a neat scene. If you're nearby, visit.

Travessia is located in downtown new Bedford and its quite nice.

Marco, the owner was there this Sunday we visited and he gave us the low down on his wine making.  He is extremely smart and you can tell his wine is something that he wants people to enjoy.  His wines are also all made from locally grown grapes.  He buys them from the local vineyards around (Coastal and Running Brook)

Right now, he is trying to get a bill pass that will allow wineries to sell their product at farmers markets since there's are some rules where you can sell but can hold tastings at them.  So lets hope, that soon we will be able to buy local wines along with fresh produce!

Travessia had white wines since those the type of grapes that can row in our crazy New England weather.  God bless this summer since its been great for the wine making.

Theres an unoacked chardonnay, chardonnay, 07 vidal blank, 08 Vidal blanc, pinot gris, and a rose that is a blend of 2 grapes that are a secret, aptly named the bastard since these are 2 grapes that normally are not paired together.  I think I have an idea on what the 2 grapes are.  But I will let you deice when you visit and taste the bastard for yourself.

The vidal blancs are each different, one is a little premature and have a bit of a sour aftertaste while the 08 is mature and sweet.

At Running Brook Vineyard, my favorite was the unoaked chardonnay but here it's the regular chardonnay. It has a really nice finish and its smooth.

Since this was nearing the end of the day and my bf and I were the only ones there, Marco left us try this new red wine he's hoping to bottle by fall right from the barrel!  It was really good and a perfect wine for the upcoming winter.  He's been experimenting with it to see how the taste will change when left out for different hours.  He had 2 glasses that had been sitting for 4 hours and another for longer.

Its $5 for a tasting and $7 if you want to keep the glass.

A really nice way to spend an afternoon and definitely a brain you can pick if you are into wine and the brewing process.

Travessia Urban Winery has been open in downtown NB since Dec, almost next door to the Green Bean.  They grow their grapes in Dartmouth and make the wine in house at the store.  Two friends and I stopped by there after the Taste of Southcoast festival on May 17.  We sampled 4 of their wines: an unoaked chardonnay, a regular chardonnay, a vidal blanc, and a sweeter vidal blanc that was presented as a dessert wine.  Sergio knew a lot about the wine despite it being his first day!  Tastings are regularly $5 but the fee can be put towards your purchase (I bought a bottle of the regular vidal blanc for $13).
Travessia is a nice addition to downtown NB and is open W-Sun 12-6, and later on AHA nights for wine lectures.

My husband and I discovered Travessia Urban Winery a little over a year ago at the Coastal Wine Trail kickoff, and we have been enjoying wine from this winery ever since.
Shortly after first tasting Travessia's incredible, locally grown Vidal Blanc, Chardonnay, and Rosé wines, we became wine club members and made our first of several visits to the New Bedford winery.
Owner and winemaker Marco Montez has done great things with the space which includes a tasting bar and his winemaking facility. He hosts fun wine club events in addition regular tastings and has started to produce red wines made in Massachusetts from California grapes including a spectacular Pinot Noir.
Travessia Urban Winery is less than an hour from Boston, and the wines are some of my favorites, holding their own among wines from long established California and European winemakers.
With a variety of restaurants, rich history,  a ferry to Cuttyhunk Island,  and several other wineries close by, New Bedford and the surrounding area is a great "stay-cation" destination, and you could easily make a fun day trip out of your visit to Travessia.

An adorable shop in New Bedford located near the typical tourist spots, and well appreciated after hours of being on the trail of Herman Melville and the white whale.  I was loving the oaked chardonnay.  When we visited, we could taste for a small fee, and if we decided to buy, the tasting fee was deducted from the purchase price.  Sounds fair, right?  We did wind up buying.  I love that it's all local.  The nice person helping us was very friendly and knowledgeable.  Another attractive reason to spend an afternoon in downtown New Bedford.  Go check them out!

Travessia is a great winery, with the friendliest owner.  I visited with friends on a Sunday afternoon and the owner led us through a lovely tasting, including a barrel tasting of one of his newer wines.  I bought several bottles -- favorites are the Vidal Blanc and the Rose, light and perfect in the summer!  I look forward to tasting more from this local winery and going back to visit.
