There's many things to be said about Traver Gallery - Tacoma.  The collections that they bring in are on a scale equal to those you would find in any major city in the world.  In fact, I believe that some of their collection are of even a higher standard.

I first came across Traver when I visited the Museum of Glass located next door.  Being a Chihuly enthusiast, I knew that they represented the artist and I just had to have a gander.  I was met by a great salesperson named Lani and she guided me through the gallery as well as assisted me when I got my itch to purchase my first Chihuly piece.  Several thousands of dollars later, I've become a loyal fan of not only their Chihuly collection, but the other select artists they represent as well.

Even if you have no intention of buying, this is really a wonderful gallery.  The art is world class and changes frequently.  Even if you do decide to buy, there are pieces that are less than $5000.00.

Specialties

For more than 30 years, the Traver Gallery has served as a theater for the visual arts, providing space for artists to explore their ideas and share their discoveries with the world.

Artists are at the cutting edge of society. They speak about what is going on in our world in a way that most of us are not able to, and they go places that are sometimes difficult to go. At the Traver Gallery, we strive to go there with them--to allow them to lead us to new and interesting territories.

This same spirit of openness is at the heart of everything we do. Our staff is approachable, knowledgeable, and friendly, with a common goal of making our clients, artists, and community feel like they are part of the Traver Gallery family.

History

Established in 1977

William Traver has always made it a priority to support artists early in their careers, and many of the artists he worked with early on--Martin Blank, Sonja Blomdahl, Gregory Grenon, Dante Marioni, Preston Singletary, Therman Statom, Lino Tagliapietra, Bertil Vallien, and Jamie Walker--have subsequently achieved international reputations.

The same willingness to take on young artists applied to a young art form. Throughout the years, the popularity of glass has grown immensely--nurtured by Traver and several dedicated collectors--and the gallery has become an international destination for contemporary glass enthusiasts.

In November 2003, the Traver Gallery opened its Tacoma location in the historic Albers Brothers Mill Building, situated on the Thea Foss Waterway adjacent to the Museum of Glass.

Approximately 4,000 square feet of exhibition space are home to one to two solo exhibitions each month. A rotating selection of archived works by Dale Chihuly is also on view in the gallery.
