Its on the beach!
The rooms needs renovating...like 20 years ago.
The room needs a real good cleaning...like 20 hours worth.
The clientle need to get their act together...like 20 more IQ points.
The bar on premises needs a consultant...like from the bar 20 yards to the south.
Did I mention its on the beach! Oh, and for about $20 less a night for equally utilitarian-only hotels nearby.
If you know what you are getting ahead of time: a clean bed, a passable shower, and a short walk to the beach...you'll be fine here. Just keep your standards low.

Once or twice a year we make it down to St. Pete Beach and are always stoked about the swigwam now Bill's Beach Bar. Man it's not the same. They used to have some killer rum runners and were a low quality biker bar. WE loved it and it is ruined. Don't go to this place the only nice thing is the ATM. No darts, no 302's and the bartenders are gone. I have few other suggestions if you are looking.
