I'm generally a very easy-going guy. I only get a little annoyed when people in the hospitality industry aren't hospitable and give crappy service.
I had such a disenchanting experience with this Travelodge that I've decided to alienate it for life. It left me with such a poor impression that it would be my first and last attempt to stay in any Travelodge. All because of one unscrupulous operator in the Travelodge chain.
It was Independence Day weekend and we wanted to stay somewhere close to SFO. Room vacancies were really scarce, but Expedia found this Travelodge listed for $35 per night. Despite it's poor reviews, we had no choice, but to give this Travelodge a try. We found the rate TGTBT.
This Travelodge is made up of a few rows of faded blue and dated (maybe from the '50s) 2-storey buildings next to Hwy 101. One thing this place has going for it, is the prominent Travelodge sign which you can't miss when going north on 101. The other is the Costco just down the street where you can buy anything you'll need for camping out if you don't get a room here. Believe me, you'll be better off camping out than staying in this Travelodge.
When we tried checking in with our Expedia reservation, we were greeted by a terribly rude and gruff owner-perator. We'll just call him HP. HP denied our reservation and the $35/night listing with Expedia. He told us to take it up with Expedia and that the matter was between Expedia and us. It had nothing to do with him. HP said he had one room left and that we better be quick and pay the full rate OR it'll go to the next guest that walks in. Sounded really dubious to say the least.
We asked to use the phone to call Expedia. HP pointed us to a pay phone which had a sign saying "Out of Service". We looked around the front desk/lobby area and noticed lots of other "Out-of-Service" signs. Free Internet access ? Phoooeeey. The row of desktops in the lobby area had Out-of-Service signs on them. Apparently, they were just for show. We noticed that any overhead to the establishment were predictably out-of-service.
Finally, we managed to call Expedia and complained about our problem. First, Expedia contacted HP and he adamantly denied receiving the reservation. Then Expedia noted our complaint and to make up for our unpleasant experience, secured a really nice deluxe room at the Holiday Inn across the street for $35 a night.
Next time, I'll take Motel 6 anytime over Travelodge.

I've been using this hotel as a jumping-off point for flights from SFO for a few years. It is so very close to SFO it takes at most 10 minutes. It's as cheap as you can find with airport shuttle included.
At first visit, I'd have to agree about the bedraggled rooms and odd smells. But, as time goes by, the property has slowly improved.
When you're there for under 10 hours, before heading back out the door to catch a flight, it's OK.
Would have given it half a star if I could. I don't care that the rate was (relatively) cheap - I was just glad the prostitutes still weren't f*&%$*g on our bed when we arrived. The furniture upholstery was torn, exposing gaping cotton. I'm pretty sure the bed was only about a foot and a half above the ground. Not to mention you have airplaines overhead ALL night. It's worth to spend the extra twenty bucks for a cleaner room - I wish I did.
My godson's christening was this past Saturday, and the reception was held at this Travelodge. Review is for the California banquet room only (and common areas) as we didn't stay in any of the rooms.
Parking was kinda weird. When you turn in from S. Airport Bl. you see the Travelodge and then an IHoPto the right. Parking for the TL is in the left area and IHoP is toward the right. We knew we were going to the California room, and there was a sign clearly pointing us in the direction we needed to go.
It was drizzly that day, and while I love the rain, it just made the potholes in the ground much more apparent as I was trying to run for cover. The banquet room was okay - I wouldn't have personally picked it. Could have been cleaner but was decent enough for what the parents needed it for.
Not sure on what the price was, but if I had an event that needed a banquet room, I'd probably be at the Hilton or the Fairmont....Travelodge just doesn't do it for me.
okay, yes this hotel was quite crappy. but if you take it for what it is, jus a place to lay yer head down and put your stuff, then its still pretty crappy, but it'll do.
after a night of partying in the bay me and my friends jus needed a place to continue drinking and finally crash on something softer than the floor and roomier than a car. we also had two rooms with a connecting door, so that was cool.
when you check in, check out, or even if you need towels, send a female to the front desk cuz the guy at the front acts like a total jerk when dealing with guys. but when i had a female next to me he was joking around and was a swell guy.
location is not too bad. right next to the airport if yer flyin, right next to the freeway if yer drivin, and right next door to an ihop if u need some cheap food in the mornin after a night of drinkin.
This hotel doesn't even deserve one star. I would highly advise anyone NOT to stay at this hotel because it is a very unsafe and shady area. When we checked into our hotel and when we opened the door to our room we found a thrashed pitch black room. There was not electricity, the phone cords were cut, it reaked like rubbing alcohol and other unusual smells. In addition, the mattress was thrown against the wall the bed frame was bashed in and in the center of the room, the mirrors were shattered; clearly this was drug related. I've never been so scared in my life; it was worse then a scenes from the movie Psycho and The Bates Hotel. To further this miserable experience, the guy at the front desk, John, neglected to rectify the situation, he wouldn't even look at the room or give me documentation of my check-out. All he said is that I would have to call the manager in the morning. When I called the manager the next morning, I was put straight to voice mail.
Later I found out from locals that this hotel is known for prostitution, a crack hangout and there have been multiple murders here. We ended up staying at the Quality Inn down the street, which was a much nicer room and had a complimentary breakfast with really good waffles. It was definitely worth the few extra dollars to stay at the Quality Inn rather then that TRASHY TRAVELODGE... TRAVELERS BEWARE OF THIS HOTEL!!
They don't even deserve 1 star. The whole experience of staying here for 1 week was horrible. End to end problems nothing else. The rooms were dirty. The management was just stupid, irresponsible and rude. They messed up my reservation from http://hotels.com and charged me twice, even if i already paid to http://Hotels.com. To resolve it, I called their reception and accounting office for like 2 months. At last http://Hotels.com gave me my money back because they agreed that I should not be charged from both sides.
sucky - 1 star is for wireless 2nd star showtime thats all loud cuz right next to the airport shower sucks bathroom sucks no door sheets suck blankets suck walls r like old no xtra toiletries no slippers low class MOtel not Hotel
OK, so I booked this place knowing that it was just a place to lay my head, so I wasn't expecting anything spectacular. I was able to ignore the ancient shower stall (no tub), the pocket door to the toilet/shower that barely worked, and the overall unkempt appearance of the room overall. However, I did expect the basic amenities that were advertised to actually work. I was here for ten days, so the minor annoyances became huge aggravations. A) There were three ice machines scattered among the seven buildings; they were at buildings two, four and seven. I was at building two, and that one never worked. Sometimes four worked, and sometimes seven worked (which is about two blocks away). One day, noe of them worked, and I resorted to going to the gas station for ice! B) They boast about their cable channels, but even the local channels did not work. I complained that ABC was not working, and the rude desk guy said that he knew, and mumbled something about the satellite. There was no apology, and it never worked the entire 10 day stay. C) The internet service is spotty at best. It worked 25% of the time, and that's being generous, since I usually had to call the desk and ask them to re-boot the router before it did work. Rude Guy once again mentioned something about the satellite and the weather (it was raining that day, but it had been sunny and 70 every other day!). Rude desk girl suggested I use the internet service in the lobby (for a fee). I didn't think I should pay for the same service twice. I spent more time at Starbucks keeping up with what I needed to online. I still had to drop a few bucks, but at least I got coffee and cookies out of the deal. C) Lastly, I like cats, but guests who might be bothered by strays will not appreciate the fact that there is a woman who leaves food and water out for the several strays that roam about the building. D) Rude Guy tried to tell me that the rate for my room had changed, and attempted to charge me the new rate despite the fact that I booked it for less. If you just need shelter from the outside and don't want to pitch a tent, this is the place for you.
