Best bathroom stop coming or going. We stop here everytime. Always clean, and fresh smelling.
The grass on the outskirts of the lot is a great place for you dog to do their thing also.
I would say I actually look forward to stopping here.
T shirts for $3.50 (some were 3 for $12.00)
- A dark blue California shirt that says California and golden state.. with some seal or something or other.... It's still in my luggage.. but I just bought it so I could say I bought this shirt from Buttonwillow.
- Don't take life too seriously. No one gets out alive.
- Jesus is my BFF.
- Jesus died to save MY SPACE in heaven.
- FAITHbook.
Oh, and they have a really ridiculous collection of cards. I don't think they are meant to be funny.
Their version
Cover: Has anyone ever told you you're amazing.
Inside: paragraphs upon paragraphs about how you're special and that your life is a gift of precious gold.
Our version
Cover: has anyone ever told you you're amazing?
Inside: No? Well that's cuz you're not!
... maybe cuz we were delirious..........
Got|gas?
They do! Don't you love it when you roll up to a Unicol 76 and you see their prices and it's the damn Cash Only price? TA was the same price with Credit cards.
On the long trip between No/So Cal, this is my stop of choice. Cheap gas, Clean bathrooms, and across the street for your needed Caffeine fix at Starbucks.
The only reason this place isn't 5 stars is because 1) the pumps pump a little slow, and 2) during hot months the place smells like manure.
This is where I fill up gas on every drive between norcal and socal. The TA/76 here is always markedly cheaper than any other stop (unless you can stop by Santa Nella if you're going to east bay or Sacramento area).
Bathroom is kept in pretty okay condition. They have a taco bell express here for your quick food cravings, but their Country Pride buffet is actually where I will stop if I have time. They have a 6.99 and 8.99 lunch/dinner buffets that will fill you up! All you can eat for just slightly more than a value combo meal at McD or Carl's Jr. On thurs-sat they serve steak AYCE for 11.99 which is an even better deal.
3 1/2 stars. $7 for breakfast buffet.
average breakfast buffet food eggs, bacon, sausage etc....
biscuits and gravy were nicely done..... come to think about it everything was pretty well made "no" runny eggs and undercooked potatoes.
waitress was on the ball...... she reminded me of Leah Remini (smoking hot) from "King of Queens"
This is the stop. Everytime we go south we stop and fill up here before we hit the grapevine. They have everything you need. Plenty of restrooms and clean. Showers, a game room so the kids can play while you rest or shop or whatever you need to do. The restaurant buffet is good. I was pleasantly surprised. I will see you TA on my annual NAMM trip in January..
The popular stop to drive down to SoCal on I-5 seems to be Kettleman, which marks the halfway point from San Jose. About 45 minutes before that stop, is exit 257. I'd much rather stop at the Buttonwillow/McKittric exit for ultra CLEAN restrooms and to avoid the chaos.
I used to cringe at the gas station 'strooms. Cringe no more, I've found a new place! There's even showers - I don't know about you, but I have no time for that, I do want to reach LA in five hours, you know.
Amongst your usual gas stations, you can find McDonald's, Starbucks, Taste of India, Super 8 Motel, and Tita's Taco truck serving Salvadorean and Mexican food. How's that for diversity?
(Disclaimer: this is only a review for the Taco Bell Express located within.)
About three and a half hours into our journey back to LA, the BF decided he needed a small break and Buttonwillow was the place to do it. (simply because of the name alone)
We rolled into TCA and found ourselves a restroom and a Taco Bell (because what is a good road trip without some really bad junk food??). It was good of them to accommodate my request for a vegetarian version of the Crunchwrap supreme but as we walked over to the soda dispenser and ....WHAT?.....NO MOUNTAIN DEW??? OK, this is some kind of TB tragedy! Absolute disappointment followed as I had to choose a Dr. Pepper instead which tasted watered down. Sigh. At least the food was TB standard.
I always stop here on my way back from LA, and with the fog so bad yesterday on my trip back, I had to stop and get breakfast.
The All You Can Eat deal is actually pretty good. I liked the sausage, French Toast and hashbrown. There were no biscuits to put the gravy on, but it did mighty well over the home fries which were also better than passable.
The gas was slightly higher than at Lost Hills, but not unreasonable at all considering. The little store had all the required things.
ALl in all, it's a good place to stop for a half-hour if you need to.
They had all the snacks I was looking to eat on this road trip. It's totally great, you can get Coke and Pepsi from the soda fountain. Woohoo (especially since I'm a Coke drinker and all I was seeing on my trip were Pepsi places)!!
The bathroom was a little hard to find at first. I went all the way back towards where the truckers go and soon found myself wondering why there was only a men's restroom. Then I saw a tired truck driver wandering around in his boxer shorts. Not a completely pretty sight, let me tell you. Thankfully, his boxers were loose fitting.
As I was walking back towards the front looking for the bathroom, my head turns toward the cafe/diner area and I notice mens and womens bathrooms. Yay!!! I walked in and was completely impressed. The bathrooms were very clean. The toilets had automatic flush. Wow!!! Good job Travel Centers of America for keeping up to date with bathroom technology.
The gas here was definitely cheaper than some of the other places along the road too. They were only $3.05 per gallon. So that didn't seem too outrageous. This is a clean place to stop if you're on one of those long drives from LA up north or back.
This stop provided my dad and I a much needed quick break and bathroom stop on our way to SoCal. I was lucky enough to have my dad accompany me on the long drive to my new living location. Yes, you read that right... I'm now living and working in SoCal. But that's a whole other story right there.
The bathrooms were pretty clean which was nice. And there were enough that there wasn't a line for the women's bathroom (always a good thing). I can't say much else for the rest of the place but it seemed pretty nice. I was able to purchase a couple bottles of Powerade for a good price. Nice to see they don't try to screw you on price since you're in the middle of nowhere ;) And we found a small arcade section where we played a couple rounds of a shooting game to break up the monotony of driving on 5.
A welcome stop in the long drive. This one will definitely be a stop that I will remember on the drives to and from home to home.
In the great expanse of I-5 between NorCal and SoCal is the handful of small truck stop towns like Buttonwillow.
Getting gas at TA (Travel Centers of America) is one of those opportunities to rub elbows with the true Road Warriors of the world - the American Truck Driver.
Gotta love the large slection of super caffienated beverages, electronic accessories and trashy audio books and DVDs. As far as grabbing grub for my grumbling tummy you've got to wonder about the appeal of the greasy spoon diner, pizza hut/taco bell fast food stand and the assortment of barely edibile morsels found in these truck stops.
I'm sorry to say I bought a package of Jack Link's Sweet & Hot jerky that tasted like horse $hit (litterally). YUCK. Nothing worse than the taste of rancid meat. I don't know why they can't stock a better brand of quality jerky which I consider a staple food for road trips.
My review here is mainly for the Country Pride restaurant in the TA travel center. We came in for a late breakfast / early lunch on our way home from LA.
The kids loved their meals. You can't go wrong with breaded chicken and french fries (Yeah, I know. Not exactly the healthiest)
I had the chicken fried steak and eggs. I always figure that when I'm at a place like this you should order something that they sell a lot of.
The deal in this place is that you can get extra meat with your order for a nominal fee. With the chicken fried steak you get an extra slab of meat for $1.99. It's definitely a meat lover's paradise.
Suzette G.ordered a grilled cheese on sourdough bread which came with some processed cheese food on some kind of white french bread.
When you come to a place like this you should plan on truckstop fare and not expect culinary nirvana but just some place to fill your gut before you hit the road.
I used to come here on the stop tp Vegas, but now I1m driving to Bakersfield for gas..Great shopping for food though, and always friendly service..
Cheap gas, but dirty inside.
