ASTORIA, NY
Trattoria Cinque is a rare find! Spacious and rustic, charming and inviting. The decor is what draws you in but the incredible food and service is what makes you come back again and again.
My first few visits, I spent at the bar trying different Italian wines and snacking on the AMAZING pizza! It is heaven sent. The margherita is delicious and light, but the pear gorgonzola is the real specialty. The thinnest crust I've ever seen in New York, this pizza truly resembles the good stuff from Italy. The gorgonzola/mozzarella blend is always delicious and is perfectly complimented by white truffle oil and pear. I think this pizza is the reason I stuck to the bar the first few times I came - I didn't think it was possible to taste anything more delicious! Boy was I wrong!
After much consideration and the search for the "perfect" place to host my sister's 30th birthday party, I decided Trattoria Cinque was the place. This party was last September and people still rave about it to me all the time. The service was phenomenal and they made sure even with 65 people that each guest was attended to. We did some passed hors d'oeuvres (the pizzas I was raving about, arancini, frittura mista, bruschetta) followed by a buffet with the best cesar salad I've ever tasted and lasagna bolognese and their signature fettucini alfredo. Everyone loved the pasta! The quality of the pasta was extremely fresh and the fettucini alfredo was unlike any I ever tasted before. Much lighter than what I'm used to for the sauce but just as rich with flavor. As the host, I was nervous I wouldn't have a chance to eat or drink but our captain made sure that my wine glass was always full and kept putting aside food for me to make sure I didn't miss out on a thing. Needless to say, my sister was surprised and had an amazing night! It was great to have a completely private space with it's own bar - made the night that much more intimate and unique. The party was a success and my sister, my family and all of her friends had a blast!
After all of my bar visits, and the party I finally decided to return for a sit down dinner and was wowed yet again. As I said earlier, I didn't think it was possible to top a dish as delicious as the pear gorgonzola pizza, but alas I was wrong. The papparedelle with oxtail was outstanding. I'd like to go swimming in the sauce. The pollo mat tone was also amazing. You think you've had one grilled chicken with potatoes and spinach, you've had them all. WRONG! This is the best chicken I've tasted in my life. Rich, juicy and tender - it's cooked to perfection. The roasted potatoes were good, but the sautéed spinach was so delicious that I'll definitely order a double portion next visit and forgo the potatoes. My friend had the timballo - also amazing. It looks like a piece of lasagna, but it is so much more. Crisp on the outside, soft and succulent on the inside, timballo reinvents eggplant parmagian! Nothing compares to Cinque's timabllo! The desserts were delicious but my favorite was by far the torts ricotta. A simple, italian style cheesecake it was the perfect ending to my meal. It's lighter than a traditional New York style cheesecake but every bit, if not more delicious. I hope I can try the profiteroles next time! They looked amazing, but at this point I was so full I decided it was best to hold off until next time.
I am fast becoming a regular at their bar and hope to sit down for dinner in the dining room again soon. Also great, they always have the game on one of their 3 bar TVS, but the atmosphere still maintains it's rustic, neighborhood vibe without feeling like a sports bar. From start to finish, Trattoria Cinque never disappoints - by far my favorite Italian in the city!!! -

New York, NY
We went to Trattoria Cinque last night with a group of 5. Absolutely love the neighborhood and we were pleasantly surprised by the ambience and space of the restaurant! It is beautifully decorated and great tables and room for larger parties - loved the look of it!
For entrees, our table ordered the Ravioli Di Brasato, Bucatini Cacio E Pepe (2), Carpaccio & Ribollita (2 apps), and the Beef Tenderloin special with steamed asparagus. I had ordered the Carpaccio and Ribollita appetizers as my entree - I studied abroad in Florence, Italy for a semester in college and Ribollita (Tuscan bread soup) was my favorite dish, whenever it is on a menu, I have to order it. Not because of my love for Ribollita (which is abundant), but to prove that there is no such thing like the hearty soup in Florence to be found in America. Trattoria Cinque proved this wrong. The Ribollita was hearty, flavorful, and out and out amazing. The carpaccio was very thinly slices and the topping arugula and pecorino were perfect!
So if my entree(s) was so good and the remainder of the table said the same and the decor fantastic, why only three stars? That is solely based on the service. If I had the option to rate the restaurant vs. the service, it would no doubt be 4.5 stars for restaurant and ZERO stars for service. Here is what happened...
When the entrees came out, there were three Bucatinis that came to the table and no Beef Tenderloin. We explained this to the waiter and he immediately realized the mistake that he had brought the wrong dish. Now I was a waitress for five years and this of course happened to me, a LOT (maybe why I am no longer a waitress), but when it happened, I know the absolute scramble that happened in the kitchen. I would run in, profusely apologizing to the chef (after profusely apologizing to the guest), push the entree ahead of all others, and stamp my foot impatiently until the new entree came out. I guess the waiter at Trattoria Cinque does not perform the same ritual...
Our table - 5 people, 4 with hot entrees - sat and waited...and waited...and waited. Now I know etiquette says you eat as soon as the dish comes out, but how many people actually do this? Especially when there is only one person with an empty spot in front of them. We waited for FIFTEEN minutes for the new Beef Tenderloin to come out. By this time, the Carpaccio had been shared across the table and our dishes were cold. When the waiter brought out the Beef Tenderloin, not only were there absolutely no apologies, but the Beef Tenderloin was absolutely bleeding (the guest had asked for it Well). This means that the Beef had basically been seared, so what took 15 minutes?!?!?
We finally ate our meals and ordered dessert. Again, the (correct) food was amazing so we were hopeful. Dessert was pretty decent! Then came the bill...again after being a waitress, there is NO question that at least the desserts would be comped (if not the offending Beef Tenderloin); there was absolutely nothing. It was actually so bad that I said something to the waiter. I told him that there must be something he could do for us due to the huge error with the entrees.
Now maybe I should have said from the beginning that we booked the reservation through Savored (30% off total bill). As soon as the unapologetic and dismissive behavior began with the waiter, I had a gut feeling that we were "second-tier guests" due to the discount booking. I was right!
His response..."Well, you already have 30% off so I don't see why we would do anything else". HA!! Sorry buddy...the 30% off is food and booze, you still tip on the original tab. Well, in his case, a 20% tip off the discounted bill was STILL too much.
Trattoria Cinque needs to reassess their servers but continue making the amazing food!! -

I am on a mission to try all restaurants on Greenwich Street so hit Trattoria last night with two friends. We had reservations for 8p and were surprised with the light crowd as we entered...you would think with a light crowd, the service would have been good - not so much. Our waitress acted as if we were interrupting her Sat night plans. She was rude and uninformed about the menu.
The food however was good once it arrived - solid pizza and amazing fresh Caesar salad! Felt it overpriced for the service and food portions...
would not go again. -

Hi, We went there tonight for Christmas Eve dinner ' Feast of 7 fishes' and we were so excited to be there to try something like this.
To say the least each course had something lacking and execution/ingredients were poor. First course had some swordfish tartar with stale looking fish and super sweet lobster, which smelled to me.
Second course had some wrap type of tortilla doused in cheese with some fish filling (eek), third course had fish (which for once looked great) but had been paired with Potatoes doused in some sweet sauce. The lime sauce on fish was mixed in the sweet sauce of potatoes to make a funny smelling dish.
Dessert had pedestrian whipped cream with boxed italian cake (dry)
For $114/ 2 people dinner, this was by far the worst food quality we have gotten. I hope their regular menu is better or people are too drunk to notice?
We didn't drink so maybe that was a mistake of ours. Never again -
Review from Nancy L.
Came here for lunch with coworkers the other day and we had mixed reviews among ourselves. My coworker ordered the Gnocchi and he said it was delicious...so maybe I ordered the wrong thing? But it was based on the waitress' recommendation, so either she and I have distinctly different taste or the chef had a bad night.
Let me rewind just a little: first when we walked in, I loved the setting of this restaurant; warm colors and decos, perfect for the holiday season. However, when we were seated at one of the red-bench booths in the back, I noticed some details: the bench was disgusting; there were dark stains and cracks all over the place...well, that didn't help my appetite.
Then, I ordered the $23 Oxtail Pappardelle since it was one of their Specials and the waitress raved about it. When it came out, the dish looked delicious! Extremely meaty sauce, just the way I imagined it to be. The oxtail meat was pretty good, but seriously though, I had to down 4 glasses of water to finish half of my plate. It was SO salty, and thank goodness I don't have high blood pressure, otherwise that probably would've cost me another physician visit.
And now, when it comes to paying, the check was $XX.15...so we gave them a $100 bill to break. They decided to keep the coins (i.e. 85 cents). It's really not a big deal at all, but it shouldn't be their decision to make. Even if I were to give the change to a homeless person on the subway or just toss it away, I never said they can keep it for themselves.
Anyway, probably wouldn't be back here again if it were up to me. But if coworker wants to come back for lunch as a group, maybe I'll give their pizza a try next time. -

Gew. Was NOT a fan of this place. Came here with my mom and sister on a Friday night. The space is nice and inviting but the food and service left much to be desired. The appetizers were decent, at best. The pizza was cold when it came out, and the topping flavors lacked creativity. Each main dish we had seemed to lack a crucial ingredient, which seemed odd since they were all pretty damn "$$$". For an expensive place like this one, I expected to be blown away. The food was either entirely too salty, or missing something. I think I drank 5 glasses of water just to dilute the meal. I was disappointed because this was such a cute place. Perhaps this place is better as a place to get drinks after work.

My friend is a regular here, and our dinner here was sublime. Everyone loved the food and spacious yet warm environment. Large tables and a large bar make this a fantastic group destination.
Here's how to have a 4-star experience.
Eat:
- Pizza with Gorgonzola, Pears, and Truffle Oil: The best thing about this pizza is it arrives straight from the oven, the super fresh and flavorful mozzarella-gorgonzola still oozing as you pull a slice away from the pie. It's all made extra fragrant by the truffle oil and pop of fruit from the pear. This was eagerly consumed - no, devoured - by all
Drink:
- They make their drinks stiff here and the cocktails are deliciously mixed.
- Passione Reale if you want fruity/sweet (but not excessively sweet)
- Basil Martini if you want refreshing, dry, less sweet
Dessert:
- Torta de Ricotta - we tried all 5 desserts and this one was by far my favorite. The ricotta is smooth and creamy but a little lighter than cheesecake, and the cookie crust was delicious
If your dinner involves the above, you Shall leave happy! -
Review from Justin L.
Manhattan, NY
Over the past two years I have probably eaten here six or seven times. Over this same two year period I have probably read the inconsistent reviews of this restaurant six or seven times. Each time I ask myself "Justin, how could anyone have anything bad to say about this place?" Having repeated this question to myself so many times, I have finally given in and joined yelp so I can memorialize my response.
No it is not cheap. However, when a restaurant has one employee whose sole responsibility is to make my Caesar salad from scratch (dressing and all), to order, it shouldn't be cheap. I am also pretty sure you are paying for the luxury of sitting in a giant booth without having to rub elbows and listen to the conversation of the patron next to you. The place isn't claustrophobic like most restaurants in NYC, and that alone is worth the price.
If you come here and don't order the pear/gorgonzola pizza, you are missing out. It is fantastic, enough said. Fried shrimp and calamari is a must. I think they have been tinkering with the marinara sauce, because it has got some spicy kick to it, and I would probably drink it if the cup was bigger. The fried pieces of asparagus add an extra something nice to the dish.
As far as meat and pasta goes, if something braised is on the menu, just order it. Unless, you dislike melt in your mouth tender, perfectly flavored hunks of meat.
Bottom line is this - if you appreciate made from scratch fresh food in a comfortable environment, this place is perfect. -

I can get past that I had a travelzoo voucher. I get it, that the waiters probably have some disdain for coupon-carrying patrons. But what i didn't understand was when the waiter said to me and my fiance, "We no longer have the braised short rib." Which was fine, but then the two tables next to us who arrived 10 minutes later, who ALSO had travelzoo coupons were able to order the short rib. Really, i don't understand that.
Anyway, the beef carpaccio (sp) was nothing special, the seafood fritto was really awesome, the halibut was ok, the papparedelle with oxtail was AWESOME, the dessert was also good. I can't say that this is the best italian i've had, but the space is really nice and the pizza looks really good. Wish I got that. -

We came here Sunday early evening (5-7pm) for a friend's farewell drinks.
Wow, the pizza here is quite tasty. The gorgonzola and pear pizza is amazing. A must try! I also liked the plain pizza too. VERY VERY VERY thin crust. I liked it all so much I ate too quickly and was awarded with painful heartburn.
Kid-friendly place like most places in Tribeca. Lots of children running around and no one seemed to mind.
Obviously this place is very far from where I work or live but if I'm in the area again, I plan to stop by for some of that pizza.. -

If I could sum up my experience at Trattoria Cinque in two words they would be "completely unremarkable."
My bf and I dined here before a show and we weren't blown away by anything we were served that night. First of all our waiter was attentive but I guess he was training someone new so I'd see him correcting the new waiter who was obviously flustered. I could hear the annoyance in his voice. It's something that should be taken care of behind the scenes not where patrons are dining. Secondly the food was very boring. The complimentary bread was hard and cold. We started with a house salad which was good but very basic. My bf ordered the chicken entree which was cooked under a brick and all that did was lend it some brunt edges. It was borderline dry and the veggies served with it (potatoes and spinach) tasted better than the chicken itself. I ordered the pear and truffle oil pizza which many other yelpers recommended. It was tasty but it was so thin that it got cold in less than 5 minutes. It was a large portion though and it filled me up.
Everything on the menu should be at least $5 less for what you get but I guess they have to pay the rent. The space is huge and empty, a bad sign on a Friday night. -

Its one of those places that you have to try more than once to get a feel for whether you are a fan or not. I went on 9/11. My friend and I need to catch up on each other so she and decided TriBeCa would be perfect. We're near the water, so to speak and you can't beat unlimited bellini or mimosa. So far I'm digging the food. We both had the frittata. It had my favorite ingredient. BACON!!!
For starters we have the bread with Nutella. My gosh. Heavenly.
Will have to go back again and try these pizzas I've been reading about. -

Gorgonzola & pear pizza (truffle oil :-)) is special PERIOD. I also ate the gnocchi but it was not up to par.
We got there about 7 pm and the place was empty, but by 8, a lot more people were being seated. I am only mentioning this because some other yelper mentioned it being empty (who cares?!). It's in the Tribeca area and it's NYC, so I am presuming that people normally eat late anyway.
Service was friendly. Downstairs has a dining area that one can reserve for parties. I really like how its bar does not have liquor bottles against the wall.
I'm sure there are a few other tasty dishes. Going back tonight actually. -

Gorgonzola pear pizza ( $18) is a must have and is on a delicious thin crust.
The rest of the food we tried was nothing special ( We tried shortribs and eggplant parm). Plenty of Italian restaraurants in NYC offering superior fare to this establishment for a better price. -
Review from Alison C.
My brother and I decided to check out Trattoria Cinque due to a Travelzoo discount voucher that he had purchased. The restaurant was located in a prime area of Tribeca, just steps from Nobu, Thalassa, Locanda Verde, and more. However, this could also be a negative for this space, because its slightly above average food could never compete.
Upon my arrival , I discovered that the bar area was totally packed with happy hour patrons who were enjoying the tail-end of the free pizza that accompanied their discounted beverages. The dining room was delightfully decorated with brick walls, just the perfect amount of lighting, and tons of open space. The host staff was extremely friendly, and I loved how we were escorted to a table in a less crowded area of the large room. As I sat and looked around, I noticed that each group of diners was perfectly spread out, leaving one or more tables between each bunch; there was no overcrowding here. We also had menus, water, and bread delivered immediately - another plus. The artisan bread was spectacular. Slices were cut thickly; the dough was very moist; and the crust was sprinkled with flour for a real home-baked feel. The standard side of butter was replaced by a whipped spread of herb-filled, sheep's milk ricotta in olive oil.
The Travelzoo discount included a 3-course meal, which enabled us to choose any appetizer, entree, and dessert from their regular menu. After the addicting bread carbfest, we decided to forgo their renown pizza and pasta dishes and stick to the rest of their country-style Italian fare. For starters, we began with the carpaccio and a soup. The Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio was unbelievably delicate. The thin slices of meat were served on a massive platter and topped with a salad of celery root, arugula, and pecorino cheese. A thin, cheesy lattice crisp was laid on top of the leafy blend for texture. The dish was elegant and simple, but packed with flavor. The Ribollita was a hearty vegetable stew that included cannellini beans and even some bread. It was served in a small cast iron skillet, which only added to its rustic nature. A dash of freshly ground pepper was a must, though, as the "soup" was lacking some seasoning.
In terms of entrees, the Braised Short Ribs were served on the bone and extremely moist. They had obviously been cooked in red wine, as the flavor was extremely pronounced, but this was definitely a positive aspect of the dish. The meat was served with slices of grilled white polenta to perfectly sop up the decadent sauce. However, the Halibut plate was a bit dry. It was cooked with a crisped skin that was hard to slice. The fish was served over a thin, Mediterranean-style broth made from tomatoes, olives, and capers. Small potato cubes had also been tossed in as an added starch element. While I enjoyed the tomato sauce, I found the halibut simply mediocre. The short rib plate definitely won this course.
For dessert, we both ordered the Seasonal Apple Tart and absolutely devoured it! The crust was moist and buttery forming a thick base and a lattice lid that was filled with dry, seasoned apple slices. There was none of that gooey pie filling involved. The tart was of a substantial size and served with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream and three fresh apple slices. The chilled vanilla cream was extremely light and low on sugar; it appeared to be home-churned.
Every element of our experience at Trattoria Cinque simply screamed country-style refinement. The food was hearty; the decor was comfortable and understated; and the service was welcoming. While our meal was enjoyable, though, everything was just slightly above mediocre, making it a place I would be happy to visit, but not go out of my way to frequent. -

Hubby and I got the travel zoo voucher and came out for a 3 course meal ($50 for 2 people). We were able to make reservations for 7pm the day of on a Saturday night (yay!) The restaurant is in a picturesque area of tribeca, and the inside of the restaurant is HUGE with a low-lit, classy atmosphere. Great place to throw a party. It was a beautiful night, but unfortunately they don't have any al fresco dining.
Hubby and I started off with the caesar salad, which was liberally sprinkled with fresh parmesan. Next up was the highly lauded Gorgonzola Pizza (gorgonzola, pears, truffle oil, colonnata lard and mozzarella - very thin crust but huge!) I wouldn't have gotten this pizza but there were so many rave reviews I couldn't resist - and I'm glad we got it! A must.
For our main courses we had the Ravioli Di Brasato (home-made braised shortrib stuffed pasta - every bit as delectable as it sounds. You get about 8 large pieces). Hubby had the Costata Di Manzo Alla Griglia (aged ribeye, mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe). He got this because it was the most expensive item on the menu and he wanted to make use of the voucher, haha. It wasn't bad, but the only thing remarkable about it was its size - a hearty slab of meat.
For dessert we shared the italian cheesecake (average) and the Affogato Alla Vaniglia (vanilla ice cream, espresso, whipped cream). This was heavenly. You get a perfect ball of vanilla ice cream in a chilled cup and pour the espresso all over it. That, along with the heavy cream made for an amazing dessert.
4 stars with our travel zoo voucher, but without it, seems a bit pricey for what you get. -

Came here w a gift certificate and was quite disappointed. We even felt sick after a dinner of decent homemade pasta and a mammoth bone in ribeye steak. From cold food to a bite of crisped Parmesan that made me gag, this place needs a culinary overhaul.

Italian in TriBeca. Hmm.
I liked their concept.
Cinque, as somebody mentioned already, it's five in Italian. So they give you only 5 choices for each.
This place is MASSIVE. And super clean.
http://www.yelp.com/us...
I like the fact all of people over here are purely Italians. ALL of them.
This waitress has an Italian accent amd it was sexy. No homo, though.
Beginnings: Frittura Mista fried calamari, shrimp, artichoke & lemon, arrabiata sauce.
http://www.yelp.com/us...
It was perfectly seasoned. I didn't have to have put extra salt n pepper.
Pasta: Bucatini cacio e pepe
http://www.yelp.com/us...
Al dente. But too much black pepper.
Big Plate: Timballo vegetarian. baked eggplant parmegiano.
http://www.yelp.com/us...
Dayum. It was good. Surprisingly. But you can't mess this traditional and signature Italian dish up.
Finishing: Latte and a warm chocolate cake with Pistachio ice cream
http://www.yelp.com/us...
http://www.yelp.com/us...
Ya gotta try those together. Trust me.
And this cute waitress asked the kitchen if they'd be able to make this dessert (that was not on the menu) for us. That was nice of her.
Overall it was a great Italian dining experience, but wish I could have more choice. This concept makes everything easier for the restaurant itself, but they won't give people a lotta choice. -

Cinque = 5 in Italian.
Trattoria Cinque = a restaurant that only offers five things
That's the gimmick here. Five perfect starters. Five pastas. Five bloody marys (brunch). Five entrees. Five desserts.
Gimmicks and empty seats aside, it's pretty good. The pear and gorgonzola pizza is a must-have. Pastas were OK. Entrees kind of boring. Service pretty decent. Prices about $3-$5 higher than expected, but the food was good, so I guess it works.
Bottom line, there are lots of buzzy places in TriBeCa right now, and this ain't one of 'em, but its good food + good service at no wait. -

Awesome first time experience! We went with the TravelZoo voucher, and thought that the service was 'extra special' (perhaps the restaurant took the prior feedback to heart and started to treat Travelzoo customers super nice).
Thanks to prior reviews, we got the carpaccio and the calamari for appetizers. Portions were huge, and the carpaccio was extremely flavorful. Loved it!
For the main course, our waiter recommended the Branzino (fish), and we also got the short rib ravioli (as everyone on yelp recommends). Both main course dishes were awesome, the ravioli was flavorful, tender and spiced right. The Branzino was cooked nicely, and also was fresh. The only not 'awesome' part was the couscous with the branzino.
I even got a glass of red wine (the Montepulciano, Capestrano for $9 a glass) with the ravioli - excellent pairing, medium and not very dry.
All this time, we were attended to quite well - our waiter kept checking on us and refilling our water/bread.
Finally, I agree with other reviewers that desserts literally take the cake. We got the cheesecake and profiteroles - the profiteroles especially were just melt-in-the-mouth. Very delicately baked and perfect sweetness.
Even after we were done, no one rushed us (even with our Travelzoo voucher). The restaurant was fairly busy when we left after nearly 2 hours. One of my best dinners in NYC. -

If there is anything I can be addicted to in New York, it must be the pizza at this place. I am not talking about the bite sized pizza on the menu though.
Last time, we had four people ordered a bottle of wine. Then we got two huge plates of pizza as complimentary appetizers, one is blue cheese, another is just mozzarella & tomato. Both of them are so great with super thin crust. The blue cheese one is my favorite ever. It completely changed my acknowledge of pizza.
After eating the pizza at this place, I stopped telling Italians that pizza was actually originated from Marco Polo's failure of learning how to make a pie in China, seriously! -

Love, love, love this place. Have never been at night, but have been for brunch twice. Was a little quieter this last time, since we went late, but brunch in the summer for an Italia World Cup game was fun and lively.
The restaurant is really lovely and warm. Very welcoming. The service is excellent and the food is very tasty. Can't go wrong here. Look forward to stopping by to try one of their happy hour specials. Definitely worth a trip to Tribeca to check out this place. -

Another Italian place downtown, yeah ok, but this place does a lot of things right. A small well thought out menu with enough choices to be interesting but not overwhelming. A wine list that's reasonable and, well just good. If you have a group of 15 or 20 friends, as we did, the back room with its huge Lazy Suzan is great for sharing, getting loud and getting your Italian on. Try some of the pizzas to share, the Pear and Gorgonzola is really nice. While the food is not spectacular its really good, reasonable and a great space, especially for groups. I'll be back.

What many reviewers pointed out is right on. Yes, the food is overpriced. Yes the place is empty. The service was good because we were practically the only people there.
We had a travelzoo voucher that allowed us to have 2 apps, 2 main courses and 2 desserts for $50. Our waiter came out and said that for the lobster/pasta main entree he will charge an extra $10. Whoa, that wasn't part of the deal buddy!
Fine, so I ordered something else. My brother got the yellowfin tuna appetizer and I, the fried calamari and shrimp. His had a heavy mustardy taste and my calamari tasted like rubber, with practically no flavor at all. They served it with about 5 pieces of shrimp and half a lemon along with some unspectactular tomato sauce.
For the main dish my brother had the gorgonzola pizza and I, the aged ribeye. The pizza was about as thin as a sheet of paper and so was the sliced pear on top of the cheese. What made this dish so expensive? I have no idea. All I know is that I looked over at the bar and saw a bunch of guys enjoying that same pizza for free with their beers. (The bar gives you free pizza with beers on some weekdays I believe). So yes we felt a little cheated.
The aged ribeye was juicy and the portion was quite big so I guess the menu price was good. But, again, unremarkable. The mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe as well.
For dessert, they brought me a small scoop of vanilla ice cream which the waiter doused with a shot of espresso. It was too bitter for my liking, so I was mostly eating it with with the whipped cream they provided.
My brother had the cheesecake which was quite bland, but the blackberries were nice and tarty.
The restaurant itself is two floors. Enormous. Decorated with bottles of Limoncello along the walls. But, they really need to kick their food up a notch, especially at those prices and being in that neighborhood. It's almost as if they are scared to disappoint. Experiment, be a little fiesty, be ITALIAN! Ciao! -

Went here for dinner with my mom because I had a http://restaurant.com gift certificate. Food was very good and atmosphere was nice. I had the spinach ricotta dumplings, which were very tasty (and very rich). We waited quite a while before our server came to the table but he was very helpful once he did come. He even let us try some of the different wines on the menu since we weren't familiar with most of the reds they have. Overall it was a very nice experience. I don't think I would go back since there are so many other great Italian restaurants in the city but if you get a http://restaurant.com certificate then I think it is definitely worth checking out.

Trattoria Cinque was my friend's pick for our monthly dinner club. It was good for a group and I enjoyed all the dishes we tried. We started off with the rich pear and gorgonzola thin crust pizza, which was large enough to feed the table. I would have liked the pizza to be a little hotter though. Next was a deliciously garlic-y ceasar salad (dates beware!). And finally, the short ribs with polenta, which resembled mash potatoes more than a polenta, but tasted just fine.
One huge drawback was the fact that I could barely hear my friend sitting next to me over the din coming from the bar area, and it was nearly impossible to hear my friends across the table. I also agree with the reviews that mention that everything is about $3-5 more expensive than the food warrants. -

One of those "pretty darn amazing food" spots. The food is rich in flavor, savory in taste, and mmmmm filling - though I do find it funny how one entree presents 5 small raviolis (though some of the best I've had) while another a gigantic, huge steak. I ordered the Branzino - moist, well seasoned, tender, very good though similar in quality as others I've had (yum, but no "wow!"). But did I mention though they were small I would still have traded my fish for my friends 5 raviolis? Yeah, it was THAT good. I wish I could get more than a tasting bite and had to stop my fork from wandering over to his plate. (seriously, those forks have a mind of their own!)
Our waitress was very sweet and never let an empty bottle of water or plate sit on the table for over 5 minutes.
Spent a wonderful holiday dinner here w/friends. Thank you Cinque! -

I had dinner here with a group of friends that turned out to be such a disaster I actually ended a 12 year friendship as a result. however the food and service were so good that I still have great memories here.
the margarhita pizza and calimari are scrumptious!
The bottles of limonchelo that line the walls of the restaurant make it hard to not order some for the table. so of course we did. We all drank more than we intended too I believe, probably because we had a bottle on the table to pour our own shots!
I love the big tables that make this place so good for large groups, especially the one that has sofas for seating. -

Definitely impressed with a recent dinner here. The menu isn't huge but the execution of the dishes totally makes up for it. We split a couple of dishes and they were all great. The pear and gorgonzola pizza was outta this world and HUGE. The caesar was delicious and watching them make it at the salad station added to the fun! I wouldn't order the short rib ravioli as a main dish, but split as an appetizer it's definitely worth trying. The only real entree we ordered was the short ribs. These have great flavor and it's a nice size portion.
Looking forward to returning in the future! -

Best restaurant/Best staff - My wedding was recently canceled due to Hurricane Irene and Kerry and Trattoria Staff managed to pull together a new wedding at their venue with 12 hours notice in the middle of the storm and went above and beyond their duties to make it memorable. It was stunning, everyone is still raving about the food, and they will forever be my favorite restaurant in NYC. We love you guys!!!

We can't say enough about our INCREDIBLE experience at Trattoria Cinque - We had our WEDDING RECEPTION here - and it was a grand success! We most especially can't say enough about Veronica (the General Manager) who is simply a lovely and gracious person. She helped us with every detail, was so easy to work with and made this aspect of wedding planning effortless.
We had a complete tasting of foods and wines to decide on our reception menu - fabulous food, fabulous wine selection! Our guest couldn't stop talking about how incredible the food was, how attentive the wait staff was and how beautiful the restaurant was. The atmosphere was gorgeous - we had the reception in the main dining room - and truly the wait staff seemed to really enjoy being there and were ALL so kind and helpful to our guests. I can't thank them enough - truly!
I recommend Tratorria CInque to anyone who wants a sumptious Italian meal, great glass of wine, or yummy dessert (which are also fab!) - and hey, if you are considering a wedding reception in Tribecca - this place is wonderful, very affordable, and you get way more than your money's worth in great food, great service, and genuinely lovely atmosphere.
Thank you Trattoria Cinque - we love you, and again, thank you to Veronica for making it happen all so easily!!! From - Cristina & Phil -

Being that I work down the street from Cinque, it makes it super convenient for all of our happy hours and I do mean all. They serve free pizza bites, pasta salad and OMG delicious cheese and olives while you sip on wine and drinks.
Ok...I love the cheese. I know it's odd, but I would order platefuls and platefuls of cheese if I could. Not just any cheese. The cheese from Cinque. (Sorry, had to do a separate paragraph hommage to the cheese.)
They are also on http://restaurant.com so make sure if you plan on eating in to get a coupon first. -

I found it odd that all the waiters were off the boat Italians. Kind of weird since the Italians immigrated to the US decades ago. Unless... they were all faking the accents. I guess Ill never know. As for the food and wine - Molto Bene!
Fantastic red wine to start the order. Thanks waiter.
Beef carpaccio as a starter was great. Crispy fried Parmesan cheese on top was perfect. I thank myself for that one.
Ravioli with short rib was the most tender and delicious meat ravioli I have had in a very long time. I wish the portions were larger. Fellow yelpers can take the credit for this one.
Parpadelle with Ox tail ragu was not quite as good but still well prepared. Blame the companion for choosing the dish you wanted. (Ravioli)
Capuccino and Tiramisu to end a fine Italian meal. Can't help it at this point, my sweet tooth just takes over.

The service was fabulous. Our waiter was attentive and offered suggestions. The staff never let a our glasses go empty and the food arrived promptly....not that it mattered as were busy enjoying our awesome drinks. We had a http://restaurant.com coupon and despite not having spent the full amount we were granted the full discount.
The waiter stayed to make sure my steak cooked the way I wanted. It was tasty as was my friends lasagna. I also had the ice cream with cappuccino dessert--very delish. The atmosphere was elegant and cozy. Would I visit again? Hell yeah! -

I'm not much of a TriBeCa person seeing as I'm not pretentious or a gazillionaire, but I happened to be in the 'hood so me and my NYC Teacher friend stopped in for a glass of vino. So this review is based purely on my bar experience, although the thin crust (flatbread perhaps?) pizzas did look quite delicious. The ambiance here is a little bit sexy and has that swanky feel you would get in any restaurant/bar in this neighborhood. It was crowded, but not to the point where you felt claustrophobic. The bartender was friendly and even offered us a bar top table, but we were find standing. I would love to come back and try some of their food (it all looked and smelled amazing), we just didn't have much time.

Came here for my Christmas dinner with the travelzoo voucher. It was not a bad dinner but I don't think I would have gone if it wasn't the voucher.
There were barely any customers when we arrived, which was weird because I tried to book a couple of restaurants and they were all fully booked. Does it mean something's wrong with this place?Anyway the ambience was nice. It was really spacious there. And I like the decors. Definitely good for big groups or private parties.
Apetizers: Fried calamari and Carpaccio were both good. Big portion.
Entree: Branzino was good but the couscous on the side was the worst I have ever had. I barely touched it. The Pappardelle was good though..would be better if the size was a bit bigger...the food was not bad but doesn't worth the price they charge...
Dessert: Best part of the entire meal! Recommend Crostata and the chocolate mousse
The service was not bad. When our server gave us the check, he said "gratuity is appreciated but it's up to you" I just felt weird when he said that. Maybe he assumed we didn't want to tip him because we used the voucher?
