Transit lounge is a magical little spot in the middle of Brickell.

The staff is incredibly nice, the drinks are cheap and there's always amazing music. (Although I do prefer the live music nights).

They also go immensely out of their way to find your lost phone, which they don't have to do. I was even embarrassed by how much looking they were doing, but they found it and I am interminably grateful!!

I'm sure this place will be a blast once the patio opens up again!!

Went to Transit lounge a few times. With Yelpers and non Yelpers the fun was the same. Great music and cheap beers, I particularly loved karaoke nights.

It's sad to see you go :(

Before heading down to Miami I solicited a few people from there on places I should check out to really get a feel for where the locals go...places that are a little less easy to get to for tourists, and most likely in neighborhoods or locales of questionable morality. They gave me so many suggestions it was almost overwhelming, but a really good example of how friendly the people of Miami were to me. Transit Lounge was one of the places that multiple people mentioned, although a few of them indicated it might not be my type of place. I would say, in the most generic sense, they were correct, although there wound up being a lot about transit that I actually really liked.

I have to start off with the negative though, as Transit was where I found out that Miami allows cigarette smoking in bars / clubs, something I detest greatly. Granted, this isn't a direct reflection of Transit specifically, since almost everywhere allows it, but from what I gather they do have the option to prohibit it (although I'm sure this would seriously hamper their business). This reality would plague me the rest of the trip, but few places was it as inescapable as in Transit. It also permeated into an actual problem at the bar, as the bartenders were regularly absent due to repeated smoke breaks. Throughout the night the number of bartenders would vary from as many as 5 at one time to zero, and this happened multiple times.

When the bartenders did show up though, at least they made pretty strong drinks. I did run into another problem with this though, as they were not only out of my gin of preference, Bombay Sapphire, but every single gin. They literally had none in the whole bar, by before midnight. I finally settled on just drinking rum and cokes the rest of the night, not a favorite of mine by any means, but a tolerable combination when at a loss for anything else suitable. I also wound up with a surprisingly low bar tab, getting out after 3 or 4 hours and many drinks at under $20 total for the night.

The music at Transit wound up being the star of the evening, as I was fortunate enough to catch a stellar reggae band performing live on and off for the duration of the night. They would do solid hour long sets before taking off 30 minutes or so and then come back and repeat with new songs. They definitely kept the place flowing all night, and the DJ music in between sets was actually pretty decent as well. There's not much correlation between the band and Transit though, other than their ability to book them, but I think it does lend a little credit to the type of acts you can see here, as this was possibly the best reggae band I've ever seen perform in a bar. The crowd itself was an interesting mix of seemingly all types, but definitely a younger, mostly attractive bunch (at least as far as the women go). There were definitely a few older folks, and some fringe hipster types, but they were in the majority.

I was totally disturbed by this place! People really hang out here??
Its like a smoky dirty pool hall, minus the pool tables! Why would anyone say this is a chill place to have a glass of wine? (Bill B. I'm directing this comment towards you).

If your looking for a place to unwind after work, this is NOT it!!!

After a very long work day, I was looking forward to my Friday Happy Hour with my co worker. We decided to venture away from midtown into the world of Brickell. BIG MISTAKE. We picked transit lounge because they had 2 for 1 happy hour and well who can pass up 2 for 1.

Parking is horrible. You have to try to parallel park your car as millions of cars are heading your way. Somehow I did it. I parked my car. We walk over to transit lounge and I didn't even make it pass the door.

The first thing that comes to me is the smell of cigarettes and tobacco. Who smokes inside anymore?! The place looked like a scuzzy pool hall (with no pool table).

End of story-we get back into our cars and head back to midtown. Lesson Learned. the end.

This used to be my favorite place until I went here tonight.

Throughout the years Transit was a Brickell staple playing bands such as Conjunto Progreso and Suenalo. There used to be a huge crowd at all these events and even though its a low down and dirty place, Transit was the place to hang out.

Now, Transit has no good bands playing (since Conjunto doesn't play there anymore and Suenalo went over to PAX and The Stage Miami), rookie and amateur DJs with music that skips, jacked up prices, and terrible service.

It just isn't as good as it was before they went into foreclosure early this summer. Supposedly they got saved from foreclosure, but in order to get more money from the patrons, they are including a mandatory 27% gratuity. RUN AWAY FROM HERE!

Aside from the lack of bands, the water seeping out near the bathrooms (yuck), the terrible service, and the super smoky place, the real problem is the MANAGEMENT at Transit. They jacked up their prices, charge you mandatory gratuity, and they won't accept any kind of gift cards or credits when you give it to them. I agree with Carl L., Jackie S., Monica C., and B. Lauren S. that the place has gone from 5 stars to zero.

I can't wait for an employee at Transit to contact me Carl... maybe they'll try to get me to change my mind... I'll keep you guys posted and post whatever they send me on here. :)

    THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!!!!!

I went there on a bit slower night, a Sunday night with a group of friends. We get there around 12:30am, and just to find out our group of friends were the only ones there! No one else, except for the bartenders, and some crackhead playing rockband and wanted us to party with him.

    Not a fun night.

Came here last night for my cousin's bday. The place was really full, but we didn't have to wait to get in. The drinks are reasonably priced, $6 for a Newkie Brown. It's tough to find a spot at the bar, but once you do, the service is very friendly and attentive.

The music could have used more diversity. I'm sure I heard the same song twice, but kudos for playing "Otis".

My friend said it best, and it is quite true, this is like Brickell's Purdy Lounge.

    Thursday Ladies Night: Free Champagne.

Dive bar, games in the corner, live band stage. Slow on weekdays, picks up on the weekends. The back becomes this open space for an escape from the too-loud-to-speak-in lounge and the smoke. I don't mind it though when the band is good---as it was a few weeks ago (Arboles Libres).

So Elvira walks up to our table and asks if we are ok. We ask for more champagne and she asks "how can we do this?" Hmm. Um, I think you can just bring me the champagne. Thanks.

Transit lounge is a very casual bar, laid back, and dark. There are also lots of board games that you can pick up and enjoy with some drinks.

We were there on a Thursday night to support Arboles Libres. They played a great set and everyone was jamming along and dancing to the music.

One big, big negative though: smoking. It was very smokey in the bar, lots of people were smoking and my eyes started burning. I hate this. Florida should adopt the same laws as NJ and NY... no smoking indoors in public locations! If you wan't to smoke, go outside! Needless to say I walked out of there smelling like a lit cigarette. Yuck.

I don't understand this place, I feel like I'm missing something.

Every time I go to Transit I find the crowd old, stationary and difficult to navigate. The music is mediocre.

Transit's only saving grace is its unparalleled view of downtown with a gorgeous (often live-painted) street art mural foreground.

Love the free music. Love the happy hour that runs later than other Brickell spots. Loved watching the artists paint the walls during Basel 2010. I'm giving some extra points because of the fact that you can find a table and actually be able to chat for happy hour. Now, late night once the music starts, thats another story.

I've been here a few times and only recently discovered the PBR vending machine. Allow me just preface the next sentence with A) I grew up in GA, and B) PBR will always have a soft spot in my heart, from years of college drinking games. I have never seen a PBR vending machine before in my life, but since this one, and posting it on FB, I have heard of several bars & music studios back home that now have them. The story usually goes something like this:

    1.  ____ decided to unlock it & drink them all.
    2. We got tired of stocking it.
    3. Some guy moshed into it and broke the glass
    4. ____ ran out of quarters and broke the glass.

Ah the punk/redneck drunken-joy that PBR brings. But don't worry folks, Transit Lounge is not this type of spot. Just a kitchy decoration in a great spot to see some great local bands for free.

Transit Lounge is a place where the Cool Kids from the Brickell Scene go. This is where you go to hear Great Live music and have the drink of your choice take your pick they have a full bar and Beer.  There are board games and Art work all over the place. I've been coming here for years and have to say i've only seen about 2-3 fights there so its a good atmosphere.  Theres also a pool table and couches to sit on there. Now for the bad news the outside has been closed which make the place hot on the inside because its too crowded.  The Even Worst News it seems like Transit has closed, Hopefully it will be back.

Partying on a budget??? This is the place to go... Cheap drinks, decent crowd, and good music.  The bartenders are always very nice and even when it's packed, you can get a drink rather quickly. The bar is pretty big and if they have the outside open there's one out there too.  They have board games if that's what you're into and food.  I've never tried the food there, so can't review.  But I'm sure it's your typical bar food...

They have good local bands that perform there and on Tuesday they have a Live Band Karaoke... Which is a lot of fun with some friends!!!!

Parking is a pain in that area, but my friends and I have found a secret little place near there to park for free... I wish I could share, but then it wouldn't be a secret and I won't have free parking next time.

Overall, not a bad little place when you need a cocktail and have only $40 in your bank account (if that's the case you might want to stay home) but you get the drift :)

I have been a huge advocate of Transit Lounge for years, but something is happening...

I went on Thursday night around 11 and it was completely dead - which is very strange for this place. Not only that, but Boiler House (the little restaurant next door) was closed and rumored to not be opening again. Also, last time I was there on a Saturday night (about a month ago) I was searched by the security guards while walking in. I found it very uncomfortable to be in a place that finds it necessary to pat down their patrons.

I hope this was just a string of bad luck, because I used to love Transit Lounge. I've seen tons of great shows there from artists such as Afrobeta, Suénalo, Conjunto Progreso, ArtOfficial, Mayday!, Spam Allstars, and many more. I hope to be able to see more in the future!

Transit is one of my favorite spots, hands down. If there's one thing I cannot stand it's pretentious lounges that have a cover and make you wait in line. At Transit it's zero fuss. No cover, no line, ever. You head straight in and check out whatever live band is playing at the time inside or you can listen to a DJ that's playing outside. There's a lot of cool art work on the walls outside too. There's two bars - perfect for the weekend where there's a lot of people wanting to get a drink.

I'm a vodka chick so that's what I usually order wherever I go. Here, a vodka cranberry is like 7 bucks. Their PBR's are four bucks.

Overall, head to Transit if you want a chill night with reasonably priced drinks and good music.

If you take a look at my profile page, you can see I am a regular at Transit Lounge. This has got to be one of the hottest spots in Miami! The music, the crowd, the staff, and the general 'vibe' of the place is just perfect. There are two main areas to hang out, and they are usually filled with awesome local/national musical acts.

I love going somewhere where people are not only having a good time drinking, but also moving/grooving to the music. I played here a couple of years ago, and, well, I find myself wanting to be a part of the audience much more than wanting to be on the stage. A very warm, welcoming ambient.

No matter what, there is always something going on at Transit Lounge. I highly recommend you check this joint out (and don't forget to say hi if you see me around!)

Transit's a very cool, laid back, lounge-y kinda place.  It's very small, but it gets pretty crowded, even on weekdays.  The ambiance is very dark and low key with some booths along the walls, tables, an open space by the stage, and a pool table.  Nothing fancy.  It's more about the crowd and the music than the ambiance, so bring a good group with you.

I went for karaoke Wed, which starts at 10 and goes until (no set end time).  I think it ended around 3:15 or 3:30 when we were there  You get a free shot with karaoke before midnight.  I got there around 12:30 and people start pouring in around 1AM, which was a shocker on a Wednesday.  Karaoke was awesome because they have a live band on the stage with you doing the instrumentals, and if you know how, you can even play the instruments.  The band is more of a rock style and the karaoke list is a a mix of top 40, soft rock classics, and soul.  There was everything from Otis Redding- Sitting on the Dock of the Bay to U2 and Lenny Kravitz, to Justin Beiber, to Aretha Franklin and Gloria Gaynor.  It was definitely a little something for everyone.

The crowd was super chill and fun.  They seemed like a lot of regulars.  As far as karaoke, it didn't really matter if you sang well or not, as long as you kept the crowd pumped.  They were very encouraging and such.  A nice plus was that the karaoke was free, as was the cover.  I think cover is always free for both men and women.  Attire, by the way, was chill.  It does say proper attire required, so bring back ups if you plan on rolling up in flip flops, but it was a range from laid back summer dresses and flat sandals to dressier/sexier looks with heels.  Many people, male and female, had on jeans.  Also, I can't speak for weekends, but on weekdays, there's plenty of parking by the metro.  It's all street parking, to my knowledge.

In general, there's a live band nightly and the calendar on their website has different events every night of the week.  They are open until maybe 5AM.  They still have some games available to play at your table while you drink.  The games weren't all that great (Operation, Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?, CandyLand, etc), so I'd bring a card game from home if you want to play games.

The downside is the smoke in this place.  Almost everyone smokes and, although you don't feel attacked by it when you're in there, you leave completely saturated in that gross smoke smell.

I am definitely looking forward to Karaoke Wed again.  Besides that, I likely wouldn't be drawn to come back outside of the nights when they have a band I really like.

Just as a tip, if you do karaoke, you can't hear yourself sing since there's a band behind you and all, so put your finger in one ear so you can hear yourself and know if you're sounding crazy or not.  Other than that, don't be shy, just get up there and have fun with it!  It's awesome!

I still very much like the music and the ambiance, the only thing I thought was a little unprofessional and rude was the guy standing in the back door. My friend and I were trying to go to the restroom and he had already let about 20 people walk through and he wasn't letting anyone from the outside go through, I asked nicely if we can get through because we really had to go to the restroom and he just looked at me and rudely told me to wait, that I can go around to the front and re-enter if I wanted to. I wasn't about to walk around to the front to go the restroom when the restroom is closer to the back door and I was two steps away from entering, he could have simply allowed people to go in and out at the same time without a problem. So I waited, but you better believe this was something that will question my return.

Drinks seem to be a little over priced here too, I guess I usually had beer when I would go, but 4 small drinks for $40+ was a little too much (I guess we are in the downtown area). Other than that, I really want to like the place, I just didn't find the rudeness very comforting.

I celebrated my birthday at Transit Lounge this weekend & we had a pretty good time. I think the drinks were reasonably priced but the bartenders were a bit overwhelmed so catching their attn at the bar was quite a challenge. Suenalo wad playing so maybe they weren't prepared for a bigger crowd? Although I don't know how big the crowd normally is since I was a first-timer...
I'm sure we'll return due to the no-frills attitude we found there, & at Boiler House next door.

What can I say? I can appreciate a live band but I really wasn't in the mood for it this Saturday-- kinda mellow for my night of "I finally have a baby sitter so can we please party?!" It did start to pick up after 130am and the music selection after the live band was awesome; hallelujah!

Great place to have fun with friends, drinks are reasonably priced but I was really turned off by the smokers inside a very tiny enclosed space. :( Outside is very cool, except when it rains run for the door! I would go back but only after I've had a good buzz!

Still a really fun, chill lounge with bad-ass music and no cover. Any place that plays 'Dancing with Myself' by Billy Idol is a winner in my book.

I went there with my friends and the place was spacious enough for us to dance the night away and when we wanted to rest there were tables for us to sit.

Yes, it was empty, but I still thought it was great. The one sour note is I got my ass handed to me in Connect Four and there was a lot of missing pieces, but that is not Transits fault.

I want this review to be simple and straight to the point.

[ - ] Cheap drinks? $5 for a bud light bottle and $7 for a Blue moon is not cheap. It's what they generally cost in a bar. $10 for a regular drink like long island ice tea. Plus, you have to be there EARLY to be able to get a table, sit by the bar or play pool. I was there at almost 11 and it was all packed. Outside was empty with only three tables, once of which didn't have any chairs. Food? HA! Who the hell was serving food? Is there a time to come for that? It was difficult enough to get a drink,

[ + ] The scenery is super nice. Art everywhere, outside the walls are full of graffiti and even a guy doing some right then and there. The set up of everything is great minus the limited seating.

[ - ]The vibe is cool I guess if you're 30 and up. I read reviews and had such high hopes for this place, I guess a little too high. They had a band that played Spanish music, wtf? What happened to good INDIE music.. Yeah... Nas? Jay Z? NOT INDIE. Where is MGMT, The Tings Tings, Modest Mouse. If you don't know these bands then you've proven my point.  When will Miami have a place where its usually 21-26 year olds? 18 and over is too young and most of 21 and over should really be considered 31 and over.

[ +] The board games, pool tables, GREAT! Even better for a group of friends, but the music is loud and makes playing a little difficult.

This place has such great potential but to say this is an INDIE BAR, play INDIE MUSIC or anything of that nature is really far from the truth. People use the term "indie" too loosely. Just because they have art and cool things like board games does not make this an indie bar, kids.

This review needs to be broken down into two sections:

    1. Transit Lounge during the week:
A very chill place to come and have a beer or glass of wine. The other people who come here are not pretentious. The atmosphere will make you feel comfortable enough to sit with a friend and chat, or venture to the bar by yourself and have a couple of drinks and people watch. They usually have some live music that starts around 1030/11 pm; which actually shows off some local talent.... This is relatively hard to find without a cover in Miami.

    2. Transit Lounge on a weekend: On Friday and Saturday nights, this place turns into a boppin' atmosphere. The crowd becomes much younger, and many people actually show up to see the particular band that is playing that night, leading to some interesting folks showing up. It becomes much more crowded, and they will open up the outdoor area with a DJ.

As far as price is concerned; you will be in Brickell, so expect to pay between 7-9 dollars for a beer, and more for a mixed drink.

So, depending on your preference in going out, Transit Lounge can evolve on any particular evening. I recommend checking out the website before you go to see what band is playing that night. It usually leads me to my decision!

I love art school because I'm doing my music theory class homework right now;  attending a live performance by Rock Band Poverty Hash.
Not because we planned it that way, but on any given night you can catch a live act at Transit Lounge.  I believe they open their stage for basically anything that walks through here and can pick up an instrument or belt a few tunes.  Its a pocket friendly place at $4 dollars a beer in the proximity of the posh Brickell area.  Anyway, Transit is a little grimy, except for the new lounge side room that recently opened (its like a swanky back stage area for the musicians). I have yet to catch something cool in there but the place is ready for r&blues nights.  I am hoping to make a better assessment at some point soon. Transit is a give and take night; some nights are jamming and some aren't.

You can't complain when there's no cover in Miami! I like this place a lot, it has a great mix of people, so you never feel out of place. The only thing I'd suggest is that they get a better A/C, because it can get brutally hot in there if they start to reach their limits! If it gets too hot or crowded inside, I like to hang out in the back, where there is usually a DJ spinning something that is completely different from the music playing inside.

I'm a little annoyed when I pull up in front of Transit because it's mostly valet parking. I totally understand that it's in a place where there is limited parking. I just don't like the idea of some dude driving my car. That's a personal issue I have, but I'm sure that there are others who can agree that it sucks. However, once you're out of the car and watching the guy drive away with your baby, you don't have to stand in a line before making your way inside.

I've read a few reviews, and I agree that your typical hipster Miami douche loves to hang out at the Transit lounge. On the upside, they're a lot of fun to make fun of with your friends while enjoying reasonably priced cocktails!

I'm writing this one cold...I haven't read any other reviews because I don't want anything to skew my first impression of Transit.

I'm no big time party animal, but I know what I like, and I like what I know.  But at the same time, I'm always open to exploration in the chance that maybe, just MAYBE I will find somewhere that I will feel as comfortable now as I did when I first started pubbing and clubbing about three million years ago.  Where you just blend in with others who are in search of happy fun times.  Where the drinks don't cost you a huge percentage of your hard earned paycheck and where there are varying degrees of partying. Where you can strike up a conversation with random strangers without feeling creeped out.

    Live Bands - yes please!
Great music playing between bands - hell yeah!! (at least on the night I went with the Yelp POW people)
Adjoining restaurant - excellent for those nights when its OMG I haven't had dinner yet I've been drinking for five hours so I better eat something before round two.
Outside smoking area (Bonus Bar included)

    This is such a place.

I still love Transit and it's one of my favorite places to go.
But WTF, i don't wanna pay $6 for a Yuengling, or $5 for a Miler Light. Come on now.

    Transit Lounge

    I love this place!!

I have been coming to transit lounge for as long as I can remember. Before the back party area was extra parking and the restaurant was a bakery, pizza place etc that had nothing to do with Transit. This place has always been awesome but it just keeps getting better and better. I love that's Transit can be my home away from home during the week where I can go and play board games and just CHILL. It can also be a lounge/Night club with its live music or the DJ that plays everything from 80's music to current Top 40. Also, you can just go for the food which I LOVE. The chicken Nachos are awesome, and their French fries I have never really tried anything like that anywhere else.
I also love that you can go in a T-shirt and jeans, or super cute dressed up and not feel out of place.

    I love Transit Lounge. :)

Since my last trip to Miami I nearly had a heart attack due to the drink prices- $15 for a vodka tonic. Are you kidding me!? So, I wasn't really feeling a South Beach night mostly because I was wearing flip flops and jeans and the prices of drinks. Maybe, I'm cheap but since living in Wicker Park ( Chicago)  I can't fathom a well drink over $7.

Now, On to Transit Lounge. Hello, really awesome, cheap, low key, down to earth, serves pizza by the slice outside and all around cool bar! Seriously, where did this place come from, now i'm not a resident of Miami or ever plan to be. But I do make it to Miami at least twice a year to visit friends and family. Obviously, there is a time and place to get all dressed up and hit the clubs, but if you're looking for a cheap fun alternative to that you have to check this place out!

I went back the other night and really enjoyed myself. The back patio was awesome. We hadn't gone out there the first time we went. There was a DJ and videos projected on the side of the building.

There was a great crowd, and the band was pretty good. It was also packed with good looking guys! Haha! Transit is becoming one of my favorite places in Brickell.

    Ah, Transit,

What a night!  What fun!  What an experience peeing in the guys bathroom...

So, a bunch of us came here for the afterparty of the Yelp Elite event last night.  When I talk about good times, good beer, and total debauchery, then I really mean what went down here last night.  WOW!!!  I guess it was the cold weather, or maybe the good times we had at the Chop House, but everyone was getting up close and personal, and super snuggly through out the night!!!

From the amazing music the DJ was first playing, to the local band Jaffe that was OFF THE CHAIN, we were all dancing the night away!  There were times were I actually got so hot I ended up in my tank top.  And to think of that in tonight's 30F weather just makes me shiver.

The venue has an old, rustic feel to it, and I enjoyed the dining side they opened up.  The stage has the evidence of many shows before it and if the walls could talk, boy oh boy what they would say!  The outdoor area is also a good time; with its own DJ and bar.  There are some tables and chairs, and it's nice to escape to the fresh air after being cooped up inside for a while.

A great experience and a ton of fun.  Good drink prices, attentive bartenders and a great atmosphere.  See you soon Transit!

    xoxo,
    SabrinaAnna*

I can't believe that I had my first Transit experience this past Friday---why had I not been here before?! This place is awesome!  I can't wait to go back already!

I always thought that the inside of this place was going to be gross. I envisioned a smoke filled dive bar with broken down tables, crackheads, and drunkards. Boy was I wrong!  Yes yes, a few crackheads and drunkards could be seen stumbling about, but for the most part- the crowd was fantastic, unpretentious, and fun! The bar wasn't smoky at at all, bc there is no smoking inside!  They have an outdoor patio area for that. I also thought that the inside of Transit had a Purdy lounge feel to it.  I loved the art on the walls!  Nice touch.  They also had a great band playing, a little sad that I didn't catch the name of the band, because I really liked them! The beers were inexpensive too.  I think we paid $14 for a Tucher and Amstel Light- not bad!

I guess the old cliche is true- you can't judge a book by its cover!

Hidden away in the west Brickell-Tobacco Road area this bar that never has a cover is a good place to be social and loud. I would recommend parking at the Tobacco Road valet for $10 instead of street parking where you might get towed or broken into.  The bar's atmosphere is pulsing with a live band and great crowds really makes this place like able, the service at the tables was decent even with there being a substantial amount of people. They have a wide variety of well priced beers the Tooker with a slice of orange full body beer with no weight to it. Also they have a shelf full of board games including my FAVORITE, Apple to Apples. My friends and I spent 3 hours playing and drinking and laughing.
All around great for a quick good time.

I dare anyone to try to sit in their bar stools for over an hour. It's physically painful! Hopefully, someone from transit will read this and convince their owners to buy new stools...

Unfortunately, the bartenders didn't impress me much either (not that I need entertaining, but they could have had a bit more confidence).

I did enjoy the Wednesday night karaoke and beer, but I've had better.

Booze, beer and board games, how had I not been here before?

This was the second post Prelude stop and although we missed JoseLuis's performance we had a blast!

The southwestern style egg rolls were delicious and all the staff I came in contact with were friendly and open.

I can't wait to come back!

My kind of place. The drinks are hot and the women are cheap.

Like has been said before, board games to entertain you when the bands are not playing. Just a really cool place

My name is George and I approve this message.
