10 reviews for Tradewinds Island Resort & Conference Center
I've stayed here a couple times and i have friends from childhood who live here now and have kids so its the perfect place for me to stay when i go to visit. Not only do they have tons of kids stuff like a 40' water slide on the beach that is inflated in the morning and deflated in the evening before sunset.
There are 5 restaurants on the property with all kinds of food. Nothing to write home about as its mainly fried, but... served the purpose on site.
The hotel is ultra clean and the service is amazing. if you are walking around and lost (its a large property) the staff will go out of their way to make sure you get where you need to be.
The rooms are very comfortable and large, you have your choice of regular or down pillows, i believe HBO was included but i didn't watch much TV. there was a fridge, sink, and microwave, plates etc; and although bamboo, nicely appointed.
They have several bars, mixed drinks were $8 each, and pricing was standardized.
There are tons of activities such as Parasailing, jetski's etc for around $99/hr. and whatever you could imagine that you'd want can be made to happen. If you're going to the gulf, this is definitely a place to consider.
Pricing for the week for a balcony looking over the beach was about $200/nt. Florida Tan... priceless.
Lots of great food within walking distance as well which i will review next.

My gf was here for a conference and I tagged along as the willing trophy husband for the long weekend.
Rooms: Quite ridiculous color scheme. Imagine a lion ate that rainbow zebra from the fruit stripes gum commercials and then barfed it up all over a hotel room and that would be the color scheme. The best part was that the room had a lil fridge and sink and microwave with silverware n junk. Bonus point for having a bottle opener. Considering I spent my days drinking by the pool, by the ocean, or by myself it was handy to have a fridge and a bottle opener easily accessible.
You have to pay some sort of resort fee but that gave you access to sweet ocean front cabanas which made it worth it.
There are a bunch of pools catering to all ages and bars all over the place. There is even a moat with paddle boats. You can get your pirate on very easily here.
On Saturday they even had a huge bouncy water slide for the kids. $35 for unlimited use seemed high, but if i had an annoying kid, $35 wouldn't be bad for me to pretend like I used protection.
So, you're going to like all the immenities if you like drinking. You probably won't think the rooms are anything special, but it's more about the resort than the actual rooms.

This place really is cool. Has an all-inclusive feel on home turf. Get an ocean view room at the very least, one with a balcony if you can manage it. Room has fridge and microwave, which makes it handy.
You'll have to throw elbows to get a chair by the pool, they are hard to come by. The sandwich shop in the lobby makes AWESOME wraps, totally worth paying hotel prices.
Plenty of bars for evening entertaining, great beach and fun atmosphere. I'd give this place 5-stars, except that I had a run in with a roach the size of a snack-size candy bar in the bathroom one night, still can't sleep when I think about it!

Large, classy hotel complex, multiple pools, bars, fitness room (shares access with nearby Sandpiper), beach cabanas, beach slides for kids, valet parking. Walking distance of nice restaurants. This is one of the finest places along the beach (along with Sirata Beach Club). But more expensive than my budget, so a special treat!
I enjoyed staying at Island Grand hotel. We got a double bed room, great size room for 2-4 people, with a little kitchen area - refrigerator, microwave, sink, even supplied with dishes etc. VERY CLEAN ROOM! I am picky when it comes to hotels and cleanliness but this hotel was clean, where ever we went facilities people were around the building cleaning.
Outside the back of the hotel was the pool, with beach chairs. Must get their early morning to get a chair. Then the beach is behind the pool, plenttttty of cabanas and complimentary for Island Grand customers, but you must check in before getting comfy on your cabana. Plenty of outdoor activities. We wet jet skiing, though the jet skis we road on were not very fast it was still fun. We road in the paddle-boats around the hotel, big fishy's below ya and sometimes you get stuck between land and other peoples paddle-boats, quite funny. Def a kid friendly place. We went on Memorial Day weekend plenty of people around. Had a firework display and even tough certain areas were blocked off with caution tape, my boyfriend and I went under them and laid on a hammock to watch.
Plenty of places to eat in and around the hotel. Eating at the hotel was a bit pricey. I liked the burgers at their sports bar - B.R. Cuda's Sports Bar. I def recommend going to the Grand Plaza Hotel which is close by for lunch or dinner, (try around sunset). This hotel has a rotating floor, amazing view of St. Pete Beach. We sat down for dinner and by the time we were done we were on the total opposite end of the restaurant. Great food, get a glass of champagne and dessert. ;) Oh and def stop by the tiki hut outside of the hotel for drinks, yes again pricey, but delicious run runners, and pleasant staff working. (Stock up the hotel room refrigerator with beer/liquor to save $$, plenty of liquor stores near by)
If I was going back to St. Pete's I would def stay at Tradewinds Island Grand again. We booked our flight and this hotel through http://cheaptickets.com ( I recommend that site as well )

This place is gorgeous, right on St Pete Beach - cabanas available.
There's seriously like 10 different pools, adult pools, kid pools, a huge slide, paddle boats... it's an amazing place, extremely kid friendly.
The food is delicious, the drinks are really yummy too. Whenever I go to Florida this is the only place I will stay.
The rooms are gorgeous and clean and the staff are very helpful and polite.

Pretty little resort on the ocean. The place is gigantic! Aside from that there wasn't anything really spectacular about it and it was a little annoying that they seemed to act like an all inclusive resort but charge you for EVERY little thing. All in all the hotel itself is a great value and seemed like a lot of fun if you had a family. But I'd suggest doing most everything besides sleeping offsite.
Room was clean, had its own little mini kitchen with a fridge, plates, cups and silverware, and a sink. (Great for going down the road and loading up with your own alcohol) The bed was comfy enough and the A/C really kicked it into gear.
This place is laid out like resort with its own restaurants and bars in the complex. However I don't recommend eating at these places as they are very expensive. I will however tell you to try the loaded nachos..wow...great
The hotel is also right on the beach so you can use the cabanas and layout with a view of the ocean. This is what I would recommend because my "relaxing vacation" wasn't quite as relaxing with 800 screaming splashing kids running around poolside.
If I knew ahead of time that this was such a "kid friendly" place, I would've went somewhere else.
Over all its a nice place...especially if you have kids. Not quite as nice if you are planning on a couples relaxing weekend.

We just got home from spending a week at this resort. My whole family went and we were able to get a 2 bedroom suite connected to another room so we had 3 bedrooms each with 2 queens, each had our own bathroom and we had a full kitchen plus two small refrigerators in the other two rooms. Worked out perfectly for our family of 9.
The resort was great-many swimming pools, its right on the beach so you can walk out to the complimentary cabana's anytime. You can get all the fresh beach towels you want to use. Other free activities included the ocean trikes as well as lagoon paddleboats. I was happy that any other activities we wanted were right there also (parasailing, seedoo's, etc).
Plan on spending some money on drinks. We simply went to the grocery store down the street and loaded up on booze and beer, bought a blender and a cooler and we were good to go, making up drinks and pitchers before going to the pool or beach. Beats paying $6.50 a beer or $8.50 a frozen drink.
Yes, this is a kid friendly place with lots of activities and fun for them but they have an ADULT pool-21 and up only and its right by the beach with a great view of the ocean while you swim. No kids allowed there so it was quite peaceful and relaxing.
I will definitely go back to this resort. Clean, friendly, well laid out. We ate on the resort several times. No more pricey than your typical chain places these days. We found a few holes down the strip that were good. Food was a hit or miss though
This is a nice resort. Right on St. Pete Beach - cabanas are available but you have to reserve them. And when we were there (late April) you had to vacate the cabanas at 6 pm.
This is a kid-friendly place and there are lots of activities for them.
Here's the downside - maybe it was just our room but we had lots of little problems. Like a toilet that was running. Yes, an engineer came right away when we called, but if this is such a top-notch place, then why doesn't housekeeping notice and get it fixed BEFORE a guest has to call? The pillows were foam rubber C**P, so we called to get down pillows (which is what they advertise on their website), and it took nearly 30 minutes to get to someone who understood and promised to see if they could find down pillows. They only found two. Yes, better than nothing, but still.....Most of the restaurants were just too expensive, but we ate frequently in the bar where they had a decent selection of salads & sandwiches.
All in all, a nice place, and if they work on the items I mentioned above I'd give 'em the last 2 stars.
