Great service. Friendly and helpful. One of few local places with solid gun safes on display and for sale.

This is a mixed place. If your looking for a gun, ammo, and a safe. This is your basic place. Its sort of missmash of things. Guns and rifles, surplus, low end camping, and fishing equipment, just basic. Came in here just to look around. The place is nothing to look at. The people are nice enough though.

lol, I haven't even stepped foot in this place yet. I was given bad information by a friend, called to get a price and was greeted with a smatass, rude comment. My apologies for not keeping track of what you sell. It happens.
Definitely wasn't the greeting I was expecting after hearing about this place and reading all the reviews. By that experience alone I'd never give this place any business. -

This place holds a special place in my heart. I was a bit nervous buying my first gun...I think it went like this.
"So what kind of gun are you looking for?"
Shrug...
"Do you hunt?"
Head shake no.
"Home defense then?"
Head shake yes. "Sure, sounds good."
"Well this police model Remington pump is great for clearing out a hallway of boogie men. It's got a collapsible stock and an extended magazine. You'll want 00 buckshot to ensure a stop or kill."
I nod..."Throw in the buckshot please."
"You'll have to wait 10 days before you can pick it up."
Since puchase I've added a blinding Surefire foregrip light. My baby sits in my closet, loaded with alternating shells of 00 buckshot, slug, 00 buckshot, etc.
Please, break into my home. I dare you. I will put my 2nd ammendment rights straight up your ass. -

Hi All,
Yes, Traders Sports in San Leandro is no longer there. It still lives on in Castro Valley, in their new location. It is the same Traders, bunch of stuff you don't need but the very item that you are looking for. Sort of like that old hardware store. Somewhere, under that pile of stuff, your golden nugget can be found.
Drop by the place, it will seem very familiar. I am not really sure if that is a good thing or not.

Nice selection on ammo, but expect to pay more than you would at other stores. Its on the way to Chabot Gun Range so thats a plus for me.
Great selection for camping, surplus, sports equipment.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. You can tell they have worked there for as long as the store has been there. Too bad they don't sell firearms anymore though. -

I still laugh about the last time I was there, and there was a small group of folks looking over the guns. One of the women in the group was the one looking to buy, and she was loudly pissed off that she couldn't buy a gun there. Good gods woman, don't you keep up on the news at all?! They haven't been selling any guns for a couple of years now!
But if you are a gun owner and are headed to Davis St., it's mandatory to stop by here to pick up supplies. A well supplied gun is a happy gun! And don't forget your gun safe!
And for the non gun enthusiast, there's lots of pretty sharp things, black wool watch caps, $3 cheap ass web belts, and camping supplies galore! -

Unfortunately Traders is no more . They have closed down after 50 years in business in San Leandro . I went by there today and they were having a Yard Sale selling of some of their old furnishings and office furniture I have a lot of fond memories shopping there with friends and family some now departed . I guess time changes everything. At least I scored a cool momento a Red Storm Lantern for a Buck .

Dirty and depressing inside, used to shop here but it has been years. Now I know why.
Counter guy was wearing a swastika ring! -

Funny, when I tried to buy a Winchester 1300 from them in the mid 1990s, I was denied because I had a misdemeanor conviction. So they were compliant on that occasion. Actually, the salesperson was a bit of a jerk about it.
With that said, many of the store's customers were shady at best.
I wish it was still the store I remember as a kid when I would go there with my father.
They have always been on the high side in terms of price although my 1300 was being sold for the going rate of 250.00.
I'll go by there tomorrow evening and report back. -

The sales associate was more than helpful when it came to finding the right products for hand gun maintenance. The price on brand new rounds was totally reasonable as well. The store isn't pretty, but why does it need to be? Get your stuff, (ask some questions of need be because they're knowledgeable) and then get out.
PS It's right near the Davis St. gun range so this is a really great location if you're planning on going shooting. -

Trader's has been around for at least 35 years, probably more. This is the very last Sporting Goods store that offers vast array of Fire Arms, Ammo and accessories available to law abiding Citizens, Hunter's, Policemen, to all of us who believe our Constitution.
The ATF (Yes the same one famous for Ruby Ridge, Waco Texas and Many more!) have been trying for years to shut down owner 'Tony Cucchiara". They have finally gotten an order to force him to close his business on June 1, 2006.
On Thursday, Chief U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker (of the California 9th Circuit Court; the most overturned court in the land) found that 'although Trader Sports likely will be hurt more by the closure than the public would be by allowing the store to remain open...'
We're talking about employees, (most of them there as long as i can remember) with families, mortgages, car payments, etc.).
What gives, this is the largest Sporting Good Store catering to serious Law abiding Gun owners, Police Branches, Hunters, et al. in Northern California.
This not only affects our second amendment rights but the First amendment also...
(Amendment I:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Amendment II:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed).
I have been a regular customer of The Trader's for those 35 years. When ever there was was a change in County or Sate Law, they made sure that there customers were kept up to date. They even provided printed materials concerning these new Laws and petitions when necessary.
There is only ONE (real) reason the ATF would want him shut down. That is his company provides their customers with the products they need.
Always emphasizing safety first and good old fashioned common sense. Unfortunately 'Common Sense' isn't so common these days.
It's sad that a populace gets the bulk of there information from the mass media weather it be Television, Movies, News Papers, Radio and others. All of which have and have had a steady anti- Gun position for years.
There are many other sources for this kind of information. The first that come to mind is John R. Lott. He is a 'Statistician' who some years back set out to get fire arm data from all Counties across this nation (not just a selected few, as usually done by Gun opponents).
He was neither pro-Gun or Anti-Gun at that time. He just wanted the statistics.
After getting the data from all American Counties and crunching the actual numbers, the out come not only supprised many people, but it led John to write a book. Fully documented.
The Title of this book is "More Guns, Less Crime". The title said it all. County after county that observed the 2nd Amendment had less crime than those Counties that put limits and legislation on gun owner ship.
I encourage you to read his book. What you do with the information is up to you. But beware, you'll never forget the documented facts.
His web sight is http://www.johnrlott.com or you can e-mail him with any questions at johnrlott@aol.com.
I encourage all of The Trader's loyal customers and All of you loyal 2nd amendment right's Gun Owners (weather you are a hunter, Policeman or law abiding citizen who wishes to protect their families and properties) to get on this Blog and any other you can think of.
Also, give Trader's a call at (510) 569-0555 and pass a word of encouragement to Tony Cucchiara.
"IT'S BETTER TO HAVE A GUN AND NOT NEED IT THAN TO NEED IT AND NOT HAVE IT!"
Thanks for the ear,
Paul

I have a mixed reaction to this place. on the one hand, it is good that it exists inspite of the efforts to close it. On the other hand, they charge more for ammo than Big 5 and other stores, so when I go there to buy ammo, I always eventually decline. I did get a good deal on a Fobus holster, so I bought that. The rest of the store with all of the surplus gear is good. The neighborhood sucks, but what can you say about east 14th? So, 3 stars.

Ya ya they don't sell guns. get over it. They have mres, some interesting and helpful reading material, knives and plenty of gun accessories, camping and surplus equipment. Ammo prices and variety are decent, lots of bb guns, , tazers, defense weapons. The liberals are closing these fun stores left and right, so support them before they are a long gone tale you tell your grand kids about. Helpful staff also.
