1.  Nice big parking lot, not too much traffic coming in and out.

2.  Go early or late on weekdays, you will have the store to yourself.

3.  Always have samples in the mornings.  yum!

4.  Love the people who work here.

5.  Offer to bag, they really appreciate that.

I LOVE Trader Joe's but this location is terrible. I was super excited that there was a new location opening up but I finally came here over the weekend.

There is the strangest odor as you go down the escalators. They have terrible ventilation down there and it is crazy packed.

The produce is not fresh. The bag of sweet potatoes I bought already had one rotting in it. I couldn't find one bag of broccoli florets that didn't already start browning. The sliced button mushrooms I bought were pretty much on their last day.

Wtf? Do different locations have different standards for their food? I'm just going to stick to the one in Westlake.

Most of these comments apply to all Trader Joes, but I'll put them here because this is the newest store in the city that I know about.

There are lots of reasons to like Trader Joes, but if I had to choose only one, it would be the fact that they don't play games with the prices. There are no sales or loss-leaders. The price is the price, and it's always fair (translate: cheap).

What I like: good selection of dry goods and frozen prepared foods, good prices, environmentally conscious (most of the time), friendly employees.

What I don't like: prepackaged produce. I realize that this is probably a plus for some people. I prefer to buy my produce at farmers markets, but I buy practically everything else from TJs.

You provide me with :

Giant bottles of electrolyte water

Giant bars of dark chocolate

Builder's bars

Chicken wraps with a bomb pesto vinaigrette

Gotta love that this Trader Joe's is really close by to my skool and gym. When ever I need Food or Water i come here! Its alot more spacious than the masonic one. Never going to tat one again. TJ's has a good selection of healthier foods, i love getting their whole wheat organic pasta, organic pasta sauce and their variety of organic juices. good stuff.  They also have a pretty good wine selection, usually i get my Chianti here :D

They have the sample area in the back with the premade foods: salads, sandwiches, chicken and other stuff. Its definitely alot easier to maneuver around  this TJ's and the lines usually aren't too bad.

I love that there is now a Trader Joe's in the area. This Trader Joe's never seems to have long lines and I can usually be in and out without a hassle. My only gripe is the layout of the parking lot and lack of places to put your shopping cart after loading your groceries into the car.

Effing love this place, so glad they finally made one close to home! I got a job interview here, too haha. I always stop by when I know the bus is going to take a while before I go home. My whole family loves this place, and seriously their stuff is super affordable. Don't be afraid to buy the Trader Joe's brand stuff -- It's not generic, it's unique and delicious. And healthy. We've compared the prices, all right. Yeahhh so organic is a few extra dimes, or maybe even a dollar more. But we say it's worth it!

Best place to come to for healthier snacks, too.
Things I recommend: organic hummus, hawaiian chips, fruit cereal bars (soooo good), cilantro & chive yogurt dip, pesto pizza, butternut squash soup, organic vanilla soymilk, plantain chips... I could go on and on and on.

I love how they have a Trader Joe's at Stonestown.  After a day of shopping, time to shop for the fun stuff - food and wine.

Where else can you find good, cheap wine for $2. Especially their tasty Moscato dessert wine.

Great samples and free coffee.

Other food can be kind of pricey but that's the price you paid for healthier, organic stuff.

Fast lines; usually less than a 3 minute wait.

This use to be Copelands...

What's the first thing I do when I walk into any Trader Joe's??????
I go right to the sample area in the back.

I remember coming here during the first week of opening, it was pretty empty. It's no longer like that...kind of crowded.

I think I've converted a few people to Trader Joe's within the last decade. I've got some people hooked on white cheddar popcorn. It use to be like...less than $1.20, now it's close to $2. Just like Trader Joe's White Cheddar Corn Puffs, they've gone up in price.

I just like coming here for snacks: salsa, chips, candy, popcorn, cookies, drinks, sushi...mannn I sound like a junk food addict.

I DOOOO LOVE HUMMUS & PITA BREAD FROM HERE!!!!!!!!!!!! The hummus that comes in a 4 pack variety tray. I guess that's been my new usual within the last year...

I hear the panna cotta is good here, but have yet to find it...maybe I'm not actually looking for it.

LOL @ Trader Joe's for being in a mall AND next to a McDonald's.

That aside Trader Joe's is my second lover (when it comes to grocery stores). Not gonna lie. Mollie Stone's is my first. Between the two I get the cooking done.

Love you Trader Joe's -- thanks for opening this location. It's super-convenient to where I live.

I love love love this store but never come here around 6pm or it will drive you insane! Everything is off the shelves .. like literally empty, and the lines are ridiculously long. But otherwise I love this store since I can get some store brand items cheaper and yummier! I totally love their frozen chicken gyozas and their microwavable jambalaya packet, and their aged white cheddar corn puffs. They have smoked salmon, Laughing cow cheese and Babybel cheese for 2.99.. what a deal right?!

Their sashimi grade tuna needs to be more fresh though, it's only sometimes when it's fresh. But otherwise, no complaints!! Lots of buses get here and everything is pretty convenient.

it's convenient to have a grocery store right next to the mall. it can save an extra trip out, or save a buck or two dining out as you've spent your wages at the shops in stonestown.

friendly staff, and the delicious trader joe's food that we all known and love.

my only gripe is that it gets very crowded, and some of the corners and areas are hard to maneuver around. i think that they need to reconsider their layout in the produce section to maximize capacity and space for the carts and shoppers.

*spoken from the recently relocated wide-eyed ohioan, returning to san francisco after a three year hiatus*

SHOOOOOT HOWDY THIS HERE PLACE IS THE BOMB DIGGITY.

ok, no, we don't talk like that in ohio.  and to the first landlord i spoke to prior to moving out here and him thinking i we did, i say "boo".

yes, ohio has trader joe's.  yes, i was most likely introduced to the place when i lived here back in the day.  i know i like trader joe's from previous experiences here, there, and pretty much everywhere, but this one was above the line of awesome.

...and if there was such a line, not too many things would be above it.  they'd have to get out of line and wait to get above 48 inches tall.  This trader joe's is apparently 58 inches tall.  good job, joe.

the place has a lot more than i expected, and a lot more than other trader joe's i've been to.  crowded, yes, but discovering new trader joe's delicacies and deliciousness because of a wider variety?  yep.  i'm all for it.  well laid out store.  and not squeezed into a tiny space. and as david mentioned- lots of parking.  yes. yes, and yes.  i concur.  and agree. and also, yes.

joe trades fairly well in this location.  fairly well, indeed.

Cheap basic foods. On the way to and from class.

I have no complaints yet. Although I always exit the store with a $10+ receipt. Strange how one urgent item leads to five more, "just in case" items.

Three stars for being conveniently located in Stonestown, never too crowded, and always a better alternative to the one in Daly City.

Two stars docked for the rude cashier who gave me shit for trying to buy a bottle of wine with a passport (I'm sorry, no matter what TJ's policy is, my government issued ID is LEGIT and thus you must take it like every other store. Besides, driver's licenses are easier to forge), then failing at packing my housemate's groceries correctly and causing a whole carton of eggs to break. Fail.

A Trader Joe's in a shopping mall, wait, wait, it's coming, WITH AMPLE PARKING!  Oh Jesus H. Christ..  You would think that this means that they have figured something out.  But, looking at all the other stores with their lack of, I have a feeling that this is just a lucky unintended plus.

Trader Joe's has some really good stuff.  I actually live much, much, much closer (much) to another Trader's (I guess, I'm a trader to the other Trader?), but I just don't enjoy the idea of the long line of cars waiting to get in.  I am kidding myself that I am really saving any time, but I just like the idea of moving and getting somewhere.

But there I am. Parking quickly and going down those escalators.  Tarte d'Alsace, green tea mochi, sandwhiches, mango passion granola cereal, and organic this and that are some of my favorites.  They have really good prices and some really good choices.

I'd stay away from the frozen salmon patties, they haven't come out the way they are supposed to..  Some of their fusion food is a hit or miss.  I shan't but more than touch some of their Mexican imaginative creations, least my ancestors roll around in their graves..

I LOVE LOVE LOVE trader joe's! And how convenient is it to walk here from State and buy a salad or sushi for a quick lunch.

But I have to note that much like the parking lot, this store is crowded and on the smallish side. Don't let that discourage you- the staff here is really friendly, samples are plentiful, and the lines are usually pretty quick.

I still remember Petrini's at this Stonestown location -- back when Stonestown was less nice than Serramonte. I remember getting pasta freshly boiled with Alfredo sauce on top (this was before I started watching what I ate). I'm glad there is a grocery store here, as it is so convenient to shop and then pick up something quick for dinner.

We were in Daly City and driving back to our friends house in inner Sunset. They'd watched our kids for a few hours and were planning to feed us dinner (I don't know how we are so lucky to have such nice friends), so we picked up dessert here as our contribution to the feast. Some of those desserts are EXCELLENT. In the frozen section, there are lemon tarts in a two-pack. I laughed at my husband when he said that it wasn't enough -- I told him not everyone eats two whole tarts by himself. I also picked up lunch for the next day (my favorite -- chicken breast over wild rice).

Yep, good location, even if it is really close to the one in Westlake. If we still lived in Daly City, we'd be at this TJ's a lot.

note: this location's potted flowers selection was a bit sparse.  Perhaps they just needed a delivery, but they did not have a succulent in sight (we had wanted to pick a little plant as a thank you present).

This is my least favorite Trader Joe's because of the mall/parking situation.  I get so scared crossing the street to get to the storefront b/c people are whizzing by so not to miss the half yearly sale at Nordstrom.

But, why 4 stars?  Well... layout wise, it's genius.  it is pretty impressive that they made this space a TJ's.  Plus, I love the escalators.  I can't help but sing to myself (quietly, of course) the 2001 A Space Odyssey Opening theme song.  That in and of itself warrants 4 stars.

Besides, the university students and surrounding neighborhoods need a place like this.

I love Trader Joe's with a passion. 95% of the stuff in my fridge is from there and I'm an expert on which location is superior and which store has better stock of what.

I wasn't impressed with this location at first. It was packed, felt subterranean with the lack of light and low ceilings, and they didn't have a lot of stuff in stock. I was complaining to my friend about how I didn't like this location when the cashier (Benjamin) interjected to tell me all the great things about this specific TJs. He asked me why I wasn't jazzed on this spot and I told him.

1. The ceilings were creepy low.
2. They were out of the big tubs of hummus (a standard in the Amanda C. house)
3. They were out of blueberries (another staple)
4. They store was pretty small
5. They didn't have my beloved mystery beer bag.

Several of the Trader Joe's in the city do the "Mystery Beer Bag". Since you can buy one beer out of a pack they end up with tons of mismatched beers. They throw 12 in a bag and sell it for $10. I have found so many cool delicious beers this way and it's a fun thing to have in my fridge.

Benjamin called the manager over and had him check in the back to see if they did in fact have a bunch of loose beers laying around and 3 minutes later I was presented with my very own bag :-D

Sure they don't have everything I need/want but customer service like that can't be beat!

This is my favorite Trader Joe's! The "Lady K" and I used to shop at Safeway, mostly out of (bad) habit because we didnt know better. Thank goddess we took on chance on the home of 2 Buck Chuck!

What I like best about TJ's is the fact that the stores are so small but they have EVERYTHING! Really, do you need to have 50 choices of everything like you would find at a big box grocery store. NO!

Service here cant be beat - like all other TJ's. Fast and friendly!

If you want to pick something up for me the chocolate covered JoJos are da bomb! Enjoy!

the opening of this trader joe's location has been a lifesaver. I no longer have to drive all the way to daly city where i have to drive around for 10 mins to find parking in that horrific clusterfuck westlake parking lot and stand in perpetually long checkout lines. instead, I can now stop by after my classes and park my bike right out front where there's always open racks and tons of open registers :)

and to add some of my recent fav TJ items to the list I started for the other TJ location here: http://www.yelp.com/bi...

-swiss dark chocolate w/whole hazelnuts
-blueberry shortbread bites
-chimichurri rice
-greek yogurt in mango/apricot, honey, and strawberry
-indian butter chicken frozen entree
-margherita pizza
-mini whole wheat bagels
-monterey jack and havarti cheese

... will add more once I think of it! :)

I used to have to drive to Daly City to get my TJ fix but now I could stop by after work or walk to the TJs. The location is conveniently next to the mall and Border's. You do have to walk down the stairs or take the escalator down from the street level to get to the store but that is a minor inconvenience. I make a trip there at least every other week or I go into TJ withdrawal : )

I like to wait for my mom here.  They have a bench on the top of the escalator next to the plastic utensils.  Youll find me there one day.

Besides that.....nothing special, just a TJ's.  They hardly have free samples at this one.

One time, i found some moldy scones, i informed some guy, he said, "oh no!" and took it away.

Good service, lots of parking.

Big WOW for the new Trader Joe's!

TJs is *always, always, always* super-crowded & I get grumpy by the traffic in the parking lots, the swarms of people, carts everywhere, little room to maneuver...you get the picture

But w/ this new location being SO CLOSE, I can treat this like a Target run & just pop over at the crack-o-dawn to get my yummies & save my mental anguish..... and I'd do anything for my Veggie Masala Burgers!

Boy are these things tasteeee - hunks of potato, carrot, corn, peppers, & other goodness surrounded by Indian spices & they're just my absolute fav... and at 3 POINTS, it's the perfect lunchable

Other fav TJ items aren't nearly as POINT-friendly & I sure hope to get you incorporated BACK into my daily regimen very soon!  Things like:

Their Peanut-Butter-Filled-Pretzels - salty, creamy & oh-so addictive

Their Mini-Reese-Cups w/ the dark chocolate instead of the Hershey's Milk.....like a decadent version of my fav candy bar!

Their Ginger Snaps - w/ hunks of ginger, baked into a small, crisp wafer that again, is oh-so-addictive

Their Molasses Chews - a large, chewy Molasses cookie that is sugary, soft & chewy & deeeeelish!

Their GORP (Good Old Raisins & Peanuts) which is perfect to mix w/ their dried cranberries for the perfect Trail Mix

So overall, LOTS to tempt me here & this hasn't even mentioned their wine & produce selections - which ROCK

Just remember to get here when they open at 9 AM (which was STILL crowded), stock up on TJ staples / goodies & luv, luv, luv, this new TJs.....

I like this place!  Now I don't have to drive all the way to Daly City to save a couple bucks on sales tax... I'm glad Trader Joe's picked this spot, even thought it is in the mall grounds but I bought a full weeks worth of food for under $50 and tonight I'm having their spinah/chive fettucini w/ turkey meatballs and alfredo sauce! Yum:)

The layout is extremely well thought out and watching my cart go up the escalator next to me makes me happy.  I feel like I'm nowhere near a mall when I'm at this Trader Joe's and for as much foot traffic this place gets, you're in and out before you know it!  The only hard part is getting in and out of the parking lot but hey, it is in the mall after all...  Oh, don't forget to try and find the hidden Gator for your special prize, that only makes the shopping experience her better.  Kudos Joe's, Kudos!

Although there are less crowds, the parking is a nightmare any time of day except around 4pm on the weekdays.  That's what I've found.  It may have been a fluke.

If anyone over the age of 35 remembers Stonestown back in the old days, there used to be a supermarket buried within the mall.  It disappeared sometime in the early 90's, never to be seen or heard of again.  Somehow, having a Trader Joe's here makes sense.

All in all, a great addition to the mall...one I will be taking advantage of often.  The neighborhood needs it, and I need my Tofutti Cuties.

I'm so happy they finally opened a Trader Joe's near me!  This is a great location.  TJ's took over the downstairs portion of the old Copeland's(RIP).  I can do some shopping at Stonestown and then hop over to TJ's to get my groceries all in one trip!

When I first entered the store, I thought I was at Target.  They have the escalators with the shopping cart mover.  A neat little addition so you don't have to wait for the elevator to get your cart back upstairs.

They have the same great selection of produce and food.  The workers are all friendly, and the checkout lines move pretty fast.  I went on a Saturday, so the parking was a bit of a pain.  You just have to be patient and stalk people as they walk to their cars.  Just find a cute guy and say..."Hey baby, need a lift??"  ;)

At first I thought, "What a horrible location to have a Trader Joe's! Now parking will suck even more." But if you come at the right time, such as early weekday evenings, parking is a breeze.

And yes, the layout does suck and the escalator is a hassle. But they did the best they could with that given space. And their selection of products is no different than other locations.

Plus Safeway is far and Lucky is overpriced! So there! I travel less, save more, and can still get my staples of Cuties, salad greens, brie & crackers and rice drinks. Yay!

Just discovered they opened a Trader Joe's down the block from work.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!

I am happy happy.  And there was no line at all (which is unheard of at a TJ's).  Granted, this is prolly because the SFSU kids are on Spring Break...but wow.  What a treat.

I am super, super happy happy because now i can go grocery shopping on the way home from work.  I love you, TJ's.  *smooch*
