Meh. I prefer FAO Schwartz. Even with the Ferris Wheel, this place is still an overgrown Toys R Us.

I love toys, but this place is definitely geared to children and buying for children.

It's like an amusement park. They take your photos when you enter, you can have your photo with Geoffrey the giraffe (someone in a suit), and then pay for it as you exit. Wasn't much to see here for me. Meh.

I went to this Toys R Us located smack dab in Times Square for a one years old bday present. I must love that kid cause I HATE Times Square and everything it stands for.

I got to the store and realized what a spectacle it was. The first things I saw were:

a) a Ginormous Ferris Wheel unnecessarily placed in the front of the store
b) People offering to take commemorative photos of me to remember my time at Toys R Us. Sorry, but I'm still trying to forget, I'll pass on the photo
c) Guy dressed up as SpiderMan sounding like a huge douche while he talked to children (yes, douchier than Toby McGuire in Spiderman 3)

I will give the store ample credit - they had a TON of toys, even stuff for babies. I ended up getting the little boy a shopping cart to push around - take that gender roles!

Also, when did toys get so cool? When I was a kid I had a ghetto cash register where the drawer would hardly open. Now they have toy SCANNERS to go along with the fake barcodes of the fake groceries you get to ring up on your DIGITAL cash register. Is it wrong that I'm 26 and I still want it?

Uch Blech kill me now...

This is not a fun place to go to ever.  You'd think, oh, it's like 10pm kids are probably asleep and not ruining your ability to walk down broadway like all the crazy picture taking tourists are consistently doing....well you'd be wrong.

Kids everywhere, people everywhere, broken escalators, awful store layout so i'm weaving in and out of weird short aisles trying to keep from getting trampled in the stampede, kids stealing candy from the candy bins, and the toys suck.  Cuz yeah, obviously I went to look at sweet toys.  Well, toys are lame now, and especially at Toy's R Us where Jurassic Park is somehow a new movie still.  Also, outside and I have no idea if this is tied to Toys R Us or not, but there are giant cartoon characters walking around and I saw a very depressed Minnie Mouse sitting on a bench.  This area is wack now.  And i think  i'd rather go to FAO.

How could a generic toyshop earns four stars?

A) THE STORE HAS A FREAKING INDOOR FERRIS WHEEL THAT YOU CAN RIDE FOR FOUR DOLLARS

B) DID YOU SEE THAT DINOSAUR ROBOT AT THE TOP FLOOR?

C) IT IS A TOY SHOP

LOVE THIS PLACE.

I have to admit, I'm really a child at heart, so when my girlfriend took me there for my birthday (yes, she knows me well) I was thrilled. I've still never been on that damned Ferris Wheel but mark my words one day I will!

There is just so much to do in this one toy store. It's pretty much impossible for them not to have what you're looking for, but if they don't, I suggest taking a trip to the 2nd floor and spending some time in the candy section for consolation...if you don't find a candy you like, you should probably give up and retaining your youth.

Despite the massive tourist traffic the entirety of Times Square receives, the staff get through any line at a rapid rate, and the store itself is huge enough that you never feel cramped. Maybe you'll feel overwhelmed though, because there is just far too much awesome crammed into this Toys'R'Us' for the faint of heart to handle.

I walked away from here with a NERF gun, which unfortunately I have already lost all the bullets from, but all that means is I now have a reason to make a return trip to this wondrous establishment.

Even though Geoffrey the Giraffe and I spell our names differently, I'm pretty sure it's a sign that I should love this store...take a trip and you're almost guaranteed to follow suit.

When first I saw the Ferris wheel inside Toys R Us, I thought, "Well that's a nice treat for kids." When I discovered my niece wanted to ride in the Barbie car only and was willing to wait extra time in line for it, I wanted to shoot myself. When I saw each ticket cost $4, I wanted to shoot Geoffrey the Giraffe. My family wasted a good hour in this store and bought nothing.

On the upside, great restrooms for public use.

My favorite toy store in NYC! I go here mainly to ride the ferris wheel--I wish I could ride it forever but they only do like 3-4 rotations and then you have to get off =( Other than the wheel on which you get to see all levels of this huge store, you can play with everything! I love the LEGO section the best. This place does have an extensive selection, but prices are a bit high for what you could probably get at your local target or walmart for cheaper.
But still the best eye candy store, so you have to stop by when you are in the times square area. There is going to be LOTS of kids/moms/strollers though, so be prepared to give up some personal space and be pushed/shoved/annoyed. A great place to kill time if you're waiting around for your friend/dinner/next show :)

I am giving this place the same rating as F.A.O. Schwarz, but for slightly different reasons.

This place was too crowded to ever be a place that I would willingly come to again.  Kids, parents, and other unidentified people were milling around, browsing, and knocking into each other in a cacophony of utter chaos.  My 5-Y-O son J and I did the Ferris Wheel (he begged, y'all, BEGGED).  We waited in one line (did I mention the jostling crowds?), paid $4.00 each to wait in another line, and then after about 15 minutes were put into a Monopoly car (honestly, I breathed a sigh of relief that we weren't in the Barbie Car.......my son would've refused to get on that one) with two strangers (another harried parent and his son).  The Ferris ride was like some surreal Stanley Kubrick movie (think "A Clockwork Orange" on fast-forward) and I was dizzy afterward.  Which made the crowds worse.  At least it prepared me for Times Square.  Sort of.

This TRU did have some Pokemon toys that I had only previously seen online.  Other than that, I was definitely not impressed with the selection and the fact that everything was marked up anywhere from $3.00-$10.00.  I toyed with the idea of going into the Barbie House (sans son and husband-too pink for J, E did not want another blackmail picture in my possession) but was still dizzy from the SK Ferris Wheel.  Never mind.

We did buy a few toys, the line was long, staff was cranky (I don't blame them a bit, this place must be a NIGHTMARE to work in), people were jackal-like in their toy quest.  Bloody hell.   It was like Thunderdome....I kept waiting for Aunty Entity to show up, comin' around and saying "You know the law.  Two men enter, one man leaves."  Scary stuff, TRU.

As a long time collector of action figures, I have a strong belief that when a kid goes to a toy store, it should create a sense of awe and wonder.  Having grown up going to Toys R Us stores and feeling that, and seeing incredible displays during FAO Schwartz's heyday, it is great to see a toy store restoring that sense of wonder with the child inside of me.

From its Lego Empire State Building to its Jurassic Park roaring/animatronic T-Rex and Superman hanging off the ceiling, this store does everything BIG.  It also has a great deal of stock.  As a collector who often seeks exclusives, I have to say it's amazing how often this store stocks exclusives (and in good numbers).  The staff is always friendly and helpful as well, making the toy buying experience better for befuddled parents and tourists.

Expect to pay a bit more since this is a Manhattan location.  Generally prices at this Toys R Us can be one to five dollars more than say, a location in the middle of New Jersey.  But part of what you're paying for is the spectacle, so see it as both a tourist attraction and toy buying experience.  Another tip: if you want to buy tickets for the Ferris wheel, get there super early as they sell out fast!

This place is way cooler than any toy store in California, but the fact that F.A.O. Schwartz is in the same area notches this place down. The ferris wheel is a very cool feature.

Very fancy, but not much greater than a typical Toys R Us in terms of toys offered for sale

OK, while I usually start any venue in Times Square with a -35 stars, I must say that after last night's quick trip to the biggest Toy Store in the city (it beats FAO right?) I must say that I'm quite pleased.

Give this place a visit on a Saturday afternoon during tourist season...ummm so basically all the time...and you're asking for a fight with moms and their kids running around grabbing for every Leap Frog toy and Shrek stuffed animal you want to hit them over the head with it.

After a decision to bring the fun day of beers and laughs back to my apartment this past Saturday, we decided that a board game was needed. Apples to Apples (apparently it is PHENOMENAL) was the choice so we ran 2 blocks over to Toys R Us. Find a lovely sales woman who says the board games are on the 2nd floor in the back. Did she see our gazing eyes as we wandered aimlessly...ok we had a little buzz...through a giant toy store? Probably, as she definitely gave us a "knowing" glance.

Apples to Apples only came in junior edition this night due to the overwhelming popularity of comparing games for children. YEA RIGHT. New board game for adults will sell out in days! We settled for the classic Catch Phrase after perusing through all of my old faves (Outburst, Scattegories, oh my!) and headed on our way.

An easy spot as it's only a few blocks away, and honestly if you go at a decent time and are in the need for toys---where else would you go? Plus, the atmosphere of a kids toy store DOES bring back memories and is way more fun than shopping on Amazon.

Extra bonus: I HAVE been on the ferris wheel. Verdict? When can you go on a 8$ ferris wheel ride in the middle of the city? Try it out if you're in a playful mood.

This Toys R Us is a one of a kind and probably the biggest. There's a freakin' carousel inside!  No something I would ride but it's cool.  Tons of toys there and the Lego section is amazing. Not as amazing as FAO but pretty damn close. I definitely like Toys R Us better than FAO.

I loved this place, even if it ended up being a tourist trap, I just loved it.

Why?

It's got everything a kid or a kid at heart could want. Except maybe a clown? Meh, clowns can be scary so nevermind on that.

The staff there was pretty friendly too even when they were busy scooting people out when the store closed.

Apart from the obvious bullet point additions of a Ferris wheel, a disclosed area for video games and a few cool Lego sculptures, this location doesn't necessarily have any charm that you wouldn't find at your average FAO Schwartz.

While the place is fairly extravagant their inventory and selection isn't too far away from that of a standard Toys 'R Us location and the place is consistently crowded. If you want to check out their video game section you'd be better off just walking a few blocks over to the Nintendo World Store.

I've probably been here somewhere around four or five times, mostly as a place to go to fill in time waiting to meet up with some friends in Times Square or to tide over a sold out movie showing. Each time has been a positive experience nonetheless and as a Toy Story fanboy I loved riding in their Toy Story themed seat on the Ferris Wheel, just don't expect anything beyond overpriced and shallow touristy thrills.

By far the best thing about this place is the fat Spider-man who poses outside the store for photos. I'm not sure if he's official or not, his costume is kind of beat up and the web he shoots is beautifully disgusting looking.

I cannot possibly imagine an item that could possibly exist in this world, that I knew for certain they had in stock in this store that, upon my hitting their front door, would not cause me to say, "Fuck it. We have to be able to find this on the internet."

Times Square. Toys R US. Think about that for a second.

I tried all the way home last night to come up with a worse combination than kids, tourists and rampant, wasteful commercialism. I thought about drunk driving, but, I like each of those elements on their own. The Beatles, maybe? Salt? My upstairs neighbor and her stripper heels on hardwood floors? I'm at a real loss here.

Whatever the pinnacle of human achievement is, Toys R Us Times Square is its exact counterweight.

CROWDED at ALL hours of the day/night.
Do people really need to go toy shopping close to midnight in the middle of the week?

When I used to visit NY I always loved coming here and looking at the ferris wheel...
I never actually rode the thing because I heard that it costs money -_-
But its still fun to see all the other people  here. :]
With a vast amount of toys and gadgets this Toys R us is one of the probally biggest in the nation.

Does not mean you got the best deal
Does not mean your toy is not made in china
Does not mean you are any more special then anyone

Does mean you just paid 8.375% on a stuffed animal
Does mean you might be a tourist
Does mean you are in tourist heaven
Does mean you are spending for ever and a half at the store due to amount of people

Just because you have been wheel and to  Barbie doll house your store is that much special... HELL NO

A gargantuan toy store in the famous Times Square district, which makes it a tourist trap combined with the holiday spirit.  Recent visit was convinced by a good friend who wanted to learn more about my inner child interests, which I was reluctant due to the excessive crowd.  As I battled my way to the second floor area where Hello Kitty are I was unable to breathe or roam freely in the store without having to constantly beseech "excuse me" with other shoppers.  Upon entering the store patrons photos are taken which a hefty fee is required for purchase.  There is a giant indoor ferris wheel in the middle of the store, which requires an admission fee.

It does not have the same feel as the renown F.A.O. Schwartz but a tier less for the price range.

P.S. Avoid shopping during the holidays as it's complete chaos.

This place gets super busy but its worth pushing kids out of the way to get to the ferris wheel. The last time I went there was one section where there was a Cabbage Patch Tree that played a video of the tree giving birth to Cabbage Patch Dolls.
A.) I didn't know trees gave birth like that
B.) I didn't know kids still liked Cabbage Patch Dolls...

But it was so funny to see. The decorations are over the top but so much fun! It's like you are 5 years old again. It's several stories high so there is plenty of room for different themes. There is a Barbie section, Lego section, and they even had a life size GI Joe.
Going into this store is like watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Gives you that warm feeling you never knew you had!

There is no way you can walk into this place and not smile.

This is the giant toy store that makes Time Square even less hip.

Its pretty cool...I guess...and filled with tons of toys to check out and purchase for the little rugrat in your life.

It is a typical NYC  tourist trap, and can get pretty full weekdays during the holidays and most weekends. They have a giant ferris wheel ride and plenty of toys to try out before buying.

I still prefer FAO for nostalgia reasons, but this place is pretty neato to visit when you are stuck in the hell that is Time Square.

This place is like a wet dream for Michael Jackson though.

its just your average toys r us-- but with a FERRIS WHEEL! :]

so on my past trip to new york with my bestfriend jason we had to go into this enormous toys r us to look for some fire fighter lego toys. unfortunately they were all out of stock so we just looked around at all of the cool toys and displays they have going on in here. video games, a giant doll house and a bunch of other things made this a magnet for pushy children and even pushier adults. but in the end, who isnt pushy in new york?

so yeah, its a must while youre in time's square if youre doing the whole tourist thang :]

OMG best toy store ever! Like for real, I went to FAO Schwartz in Frisco and NY, this totally beats it. Ferris Wheel OMG. I thought the store rocked, my daughter loved the barbie house upstairs , and I loved how everything is so hands on. So we went to NY just for the day, took the train up from Philly, and this was actually my highlight. We didnt plan too much just kind of window shopped and wandered or whatever, nothing high maintenance, but I really liked this Toy Store. I decided on Bella's Christmas gift too, this learning biked that she was hooked on.

People who play that dancing game with the arrows are like a fuckin cult! So I'm watching Bella play on the bike and this latin guy with long hair, a wife beater tanktop and a backpack walks up. He pulls some special tennis shoes out of his back pack and proceeds to put them on and begin the game. This guy was intense, sweating up a fuckin storm, about 30 years old. After every round he would like step off for a 2nd and walk in a circle like he was truly performing for everyone, it was hillarious.

6.2.08: This is the most amazing store ever. As I walked in there was a ferris wheel and the carts are cars with animals themed. And like a theme park they had people stand at the door to take pictures. Crazy huh?

The place was 3 stories huge and lots of selection. I bought my niece and my friend a shirt from this place. The prices are not too bad either. I really like their lego display and their moving dinosaur. That thing scared me. The eyes the arms and its legs was moving.

Place of fun for all ages! Come here to check out stuff and there's lots of souvenir you can get from here without the hassle of bargaining cause this place has decent pricing.

Sensory overload for adults and children alike. I swear, I've never been more ready to go postal than I was after leaving the Toys R Us Time Square store. From being accosted by the dudes with the cameras at the front door to waiting in line for 20 minutes for the friggin ferris wheel, I didn't know that it could get worse. But guess what, my friends...it did. My seven year old was PELTED WITH A ROCK while on the ferris wheel with her dear old grandparents. I spoke with management and filed a complaint, so we'll see how much they stand behind their image as a family fun destination. Right now my kid has a brused up knee and a pretty bummed out memory of riding on a $4 merry go round that did not go round that much.

Having your kids cry and pout as you pass by the store and NOT take them inside is soooo much better than actually going in and subjecting yoruself to the consumer hell that is this ultra-tourist experience. Shame on me for taking them there in the first place - I should have known better.

yes yes yes and yes!

We had one other family and a couple with us, so we couldn't fully enjoy this Toys R Us, but my husband and I both agree that we could spend a whole day at this location.  Yes, it does get super crowded, it is TIMES SQUARE, but, there are so many sections, the crowds didn't really bother us.

Our son loved the life sized T-Rex & the Transformers mural.  I thought it was amazing that they could fit a whole stinking ferris wheel inside.  And although I would've liked to see their children's DVD section with more selection, they had all the newest toys to test out.  Definitely made me forget that I was an adult for an hour.

It's not just for kids as Toys R Us is the ultimate playground for all tourists along this crowded section of Times Square.  Obviously kids will enjoy this store the most, but its the adults that may groan at the prices when they see how overpriced some of these "toys" are.  Thus for all of us "Toys R Us Kids" who have unfortunately grown up, this megastore location represents all our childhoods in the most overblown commercialistic way.

The store is impressive in its own right, with several floors of categorized toys on each level.  In addition there is a ferris wheel dominating the entire store front and is by far the most noticeable thing.  This is the Toys R Us that is supposed to have everything and it seems with all of the space they would.  The only thing missing for now are sex toys.

One of the best things about the store is its electronics section.  They have the Nintendo Wii often in stock, along with hot games that are hard to find.  I didn't think there was a reason to come here other than to entertain a few young ones but  for the Wii alone, its worth checking out.  I guess I still am a Toys R Us kid and I certainly don't want to grow up.

Got the Dr. Seuss books I needed, but only after...

--suffering a tackle by the Toys R' Us employed photographer, who forced my friend and me to pose childless for a photo in front of the Vegas-inspired ferris wheel

--ramming into the dancing Toys R' Us Giraffe "Geoffrey" (TM), who clapped while small girls twirled and shoved and oozed over Bratz (TM)

--dodging a circle of tots who were swarming for contact with the Nestle Quick(TM) bunny as he pushed strawberry syrups and chocolate powders and pencil cases bearing his image

--enduring a second interception by aforementioned photographer who thrust flyers at us to alert that our childless photo in front of the Vegas-inspired ferris wheel was ready for purchase, day cruise-style.

The star is for Dr. Seuss.

Toys R Us in Time Square is a "must see" for anyone visiting NYC.  It's a real experience (you know that is true because there are people there taking your picture when you walk in trying to sell it to you.)

Everyone knows about the Ferris Wheel.  Even if you don't pay to ride it (good luck getting away with that if you have your kids with you), it's cool to see.  They also have the huge animatronic dinosaur that will scare the daylights out of your three year old.

I actually thought the prices were right on.  They are definitely cheaper than FAO Schwarz on most things.  I would go much more often if it wasn't in Times Square and far from where I live.

So... when I used to talk about Toys R' Us people who weren't familiar with this location would give me the oddest looks. Then I broke down and did a photo tour of it. It's amazing, you've got a ferris wheel indoors, large scale Lego creations, a Candy Land themed candy store -- need I go on? Every bloody toy is in this place and the decor grabs your attention and keeps it. How about the huge T-Rex? Or the walk in Barbie dollhouse? It's worth the visit and if you go during a non-rush, you can beat every line imaginable thus making it a pleasurable visit.
