Never mind what I might think of Townhouse. I might think practical things like, "They squeeze the lab's butt glands for FREE? Really?!" or, "What were those Sunday hours again?" Or maybe, "Damn that Sheltie looks and smells a lot better than he did a few days ago."
What really matters is this: I pull up in front and open the back door of the car and the lab springs from the vehicle and more or less dances to the front door of the "spa", as we call Townhouse. The sheltie is new here and more reticent by nature but he'll learn to love it too.
Some places a labrador remembers for good or ill, some he seems not to recall at all. But Townhouse, even after he hadn't stayed there for four years, is as happily remembered as anyplace we've taken him, the whole gland milking thing notwithstanding. Nuff said.
I dropped off my puppy here for the night, as we had a wedding in Forest Grove and the hotel was not pet friendly. We also had them clean him as well, so he came back to us smelling wonderful.
They took great care of him, and I'd normally give 5 stars, but they had really weird hours on Sunday. We could only pick him up from 9-10 am or 3-5 pm. They failed to tell me this when we dropped him off and had said that we could pick him up whenever the next day...so we showed up at noon to get our little puppy and couldn't. We ended up having to push back our plans 3 hours to wait for him to get him. Minus one star for odd hours.
I chose them based on the other reviews.
My dog needed her anal glands expressed (eew) so I called and they were very nice on the phone and said to bring her in any time.
I asked how much. "Oh, no charge, it just takes a minute." Wow. I went in and they were great.
The store was clean and well-stocked with treats, toys, collars and dog food. There was glass so I could see the dogs in the back, and even watch my dog and re-assure her. I could see them talking to my nervous dog to calm her. The feeling I got was that they had their act together, unlike the chaos of some pet stores and grooming places.
I bought treats just so I could give them money. I'll go there again as a paying customer. They're a class act.
When you take your pet to a groomers you want them to listen to what you want done and do it well.
I asked and Destinie listened.
My dog Gus now has an awesome Mohawk.
You can't beat that.
Audun is approximately equal parts fluff & cat. I've had him shaved every summer for seven years; this summer, however, has been so cool that, I admit it, I procrastinated. Until last night, when it was 100 degrees out & he was panting miserably for hours in my un-air-conditioned apartment. I felt like Mommie Dearest.
So this morning, frantic to schedule an emergency shave, I called Townhouse at 8:30. I asked, do you shave cats? They said, yes. I asked, can you shave my cat today? They said, when do you want to bring him in? I showed up at 9:30, made sure his groomer knew what I meant by "lion cut" (the place I took him last year apparently did not), & within twenty minutes he was sporting that lovely, giggle-inducing lion look! For an entirely reasonable price, I might add.
They have earned my eternal gratitude for saving my bad-human butt & being so nice about it.
Top dog grooming with good tips too
This place is a boarding kennel, and they also offer dog grooming. I brought my two dogs here for the first time and was very impressed with their personal service. The groomer came out beforehand and went over exactly what I wanted done on each dog, which was very reassuring. This was especially nice since it was the first time my puppy had ever been groomed. She also made some good suggestions on how I can prevent matting, since I've never had a high maintenance dog whose hair took so much work! The only downside was the price. It was $90 for both of them, which unfortunately is about the going rate. But if I'm going to pay that much, it's good to know that my pups are well taken care, and they seemed happy when I picked them up.
Tip: They also offer boarding here where dogs are individually exercised outside. A man was there who was picking up his dogs after two months away! I could ever board them for that long, but that shows that they obviously have a good reputation.
