i am in LOVE with their mushroom burger! it's super juicy and good. they cook it just right with the meat still a little pink in the center. they also don't skimp on the mushrooms. they have really good onion rings too but you have to order that separately. the price is good and the service is great! fast and friendly.
**they do close at nine so don't think of going there anytime after that**
Maybe I've become spoiled by the other burger places in the Peninsula, but I do have expectations.
Yes, their burgers are above the status-quo. It's tasty and they do have monterey jack cheese available. Unfortunately their shakes are a "hit or miss," and if your shake is a "hit or miss" with Mitchell's ice cream, then somethings wrong there. Not to mention that for the price paid for their shakes, they offer too little quantity.
I won't go into their condiments, however I have to question whether or not the really use Heinz Ketchup like their bottles say. That speaks volume to me about whether or not to trust what they advertise.
Good Burger, and the fries were hot hot hot. i'm a Burger snob so... i cant go a full 4 but i'd give them a solid 3.5. However, i did order the California without sprouts to go, and when i opened it there were sprouts... so be clear when you order. everything else was spot on and fast, nice service.
BTW. the Mitchell Bros Ice Cream Shakes looked Amazing!
Yelp included this place in a write-up about burgers (1 paragraph was devoted to veggie burgers). This is a little strange bc Tower doesn't make veggie burgers in house - they just cook a gardenburger up a bunch of different ways. That's fine & all, I was just a little misled by the Yelp email.
Anyway, this place was fine. Not as good as Barney's, but fine in a neighborhood standby kind of way. It's a large space so it's good for groups or families. It was oddly quiet for how large it is.
Been here a couple of times. Really wanted to give this place more stars because the staff works so hard here. Service is usually swift and accurate. The problem is that for the money, the burgers aren't really all that special or tasty. I appreciate that they use Niman Ranch beef and that the toppings are generally fresh. I expected the burger to be a little better with the price approaching $10 for burger and fries. Its good for kids and a lot of neighborhood regulars frequent the place.
Had the Tower Burger and the Tuna Salad here today for a late lunch. Fast Service, easy parking and clean establishment. Burger was cooked the way I ordered it and with everything a burger is suppose to come with. Wanted to try the fish and chips that people raved about but was avoiding the fried foods today. Next time, fries and beer too!!!
if your in this neighborhood its a great place for a burger.
not my favorite in town but very good. I think this place is relly 3.5
We tried two burgers. The hamburger was incredible and the bun was really good to. The second was a BCB. The bacon was crisp with just the right amount of cheese. The fries were nice and crispy too.
Tower Burger is jawsome. Fish and chips are awesome, and the burgers are awesome. They are better fresh - consumed on-site, but the carry out option works extremely well for families or a night in. Service is polite, friendly and pretty fast. Nieman Ranch pattys are good. They serve beer as well, and the fries are good. What more could you want?
So good that cows tell their children they'll be eaten here if they misbehave. Cops eat here when not ticketing folk.
Burger restaurants are very hard to judge, you order one burger and that's the only one to critique. If it was just a burger you imagined, then it's truly nothing special. I guess I'm a burger fanatic. Since the Burger Bar in Las Vegas, nothing else is comparable.
The Western Burger had mayou, which I didn't like, I thought it didn't considering it was a Western Burger. That killed it for me. The onions on it should of been grilled instead of being raw. I enjoy the Niman Ranch beef cooked medium and the french fries were freshly hot which I really like.
I would create a special weekly menu with people that have special orders, maybe making a special after them. That would earn another star, another one would be the interior decor which is kinda dull.
If you want a pretty good, relatively inexpensive burger, Tower Burger is the place to go. They service is really fast and they have a bunch of vegetarian options. The milkshakes are too expensive and not very big, but its a solid burger joint.
I went into Tower Burger twice in a week and thought it was "pretty good" then I went about my life and realized that I every burger I've had since then just does not compare.
Its been rough for me. I've tried everything: my friends have tried setting me up with other burger joints; I've played the field, sometimes eating two different burgers in a weekend; I've even experimented with hotdogs.
Nothings worked. Damn you Tower!
Delicious burgers.
We don't eat a lot of meat but when we do, we don't want it to be crap.
Niman Ranch meat.
Fantastic onion rings and french fries.
Deliciously seasoned and nice crunch outside and soft middle.
Crisp and clean veggies in the salad.
Lettuce, tomatoes, egg, croutons. Vinaigrette dressing. Simple and perfect.
Friendly and amazingly quick service.
We put 15 minutes on the meter and were in and out with our food before it expired.
Convenient location.
We parked right in front.
VERY nice burger joint. High quality EVERYTHING. That said, the prices aren't that great. A burger with fries will set you back at least 10 bucks. Well worth it though if you ask me. Why?
-a medium-rare burger is indeed medium-rare
-a side of onion rings is always SIX. no more, no less. consistency is good!
-chicken strips aren't the best, but hey, it's a burger place after all.
-perfect amount of each condiment on burgers. it's not too little where you would feel skimped, but it's also not piled on so when you take the first bite the whole burger falls apart.
-niman ranch beef. 'nuff said.
-friendly atmosphere! (even the cook is friendly!)
So if you're in the Twin Peaks area and feel like eating at a top shelf burger joint (after all, it's the highest restaurant in The City elevation-wise), go to Tower Burger. If you're bringing the family, don't forget your Credit Cards because it adds up quickly!
The gale was brutal at Tower Burger tonight; improvised shivs were jammed under the door to keep it from blowing open, the wind was so violent. I stayed home. I hate wind. Let me repeat: I. Hate. Wind. It makes people obstreperous.
The Spousal Unit spied his favorite counterperson (we think she must be one of the owners). She greeted him with familiarity.
"I'll have the Basic Burger - "
"Medium rare -- no! Rare!"
"Rare. And the bun toasted"
"Right. No mayonnaise!"
"Yes, no mayonnaise. And toasted."
"Right! Red wine?"
"Right!"
She rang up the order and gave The Spousal Unit the total: $14.75."
"For a burger and a glass of wine?!?" The Spousal Unit cried.
"No salad?"
"Only when I'm here with my wife."
"Oh, right!"
"And could you -- what do I have to do to get the bun toasted? I order it every time and I never get it toasted."
She gave The Spousal Unit the correct change from a $20, and turned around, took two command steps and yelled to the cook:
"And he wants the bun toasted!"
The Spousal Unit sat down at a padded banquette. The proprietress brings him his wine, which is very decent house plonk. He enjoys a few sips before she returns with his burger. Cooked rare. No mayo.
On a toasted bun.
The Spousal Unit takes a bite, breaks into a wide grin and looks up at the proprietress, who has been watching him intently. He says:
"The perfect burger."
Her smile gets even wider and she goes back to work.
The Spousal Unit enjoys The Perfect Burger. He finishes off the glass of wine. Buttoning up and heading out into the sapping cold, he catches the proprietress' eye and says "Burger on toast!"
They both crack up laughing, and he heads back home in a happy glow: after going on five full decades of searching, The Spousal Unit has found It: The Perfect Burger.

Six reasons why Tower Burger is The Spousal Unit's and my favorite place to go when we want a… Read more »
my boyfriend and i were planning to go to Japantown for lunch. while we were in the car, i had this weird craving for a hamburger. as we were driving up Portola, i told him "i want a hamburger. you wanna try that burger joint instead?" so we ended up here.
the burgers were yummy. i ordered their "tower burger." for about $7 it came with grilled onions, bacon, mushrooms, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. it was good and it totally satisfied my burger craving! too bad it didnt come with fries. but i enjoyed it. i also ordered a strawberry milkshake. btw, they make their milkshakes with Mitchell's ice cream. i believe it was around $5.
we went to Joe's Cable Car a couple weeks ago. even though Joe's "grinds their chuck daily," this place uses beef from Niman Ranch http://www.nimanranch..... my bf said he liked this place and it tasted better than Joe's. plus, its cheaper. we'll probably be back one day.
Props for the family-owned burger joint!
Even though I don't regularly consume burgers (especially prepared with Niman Ranch meat), I just needed to this time around. I ordered the Tower Burger - and it was simply wonderful. Just the right amount of tenderness and juiciness in the beef - medium rare too...aah, simply delightful. The burger will simply take you into burger nirvana and then you will simply forget your current environment for a second or two. Even though I did not order a milkshake, they definitely appear delicious ... so order one.
And if you're one of those 5-a-day fruit&veggie nut, then order a side salad. It's large enough to satisfy your daily requirement whilst offering some vegetation along with that carnivorous burger.
Excellent burgers at Tower Burger... I'd come again.
Tower burger is an honest burger on top of the hill in SF. They don't jack on prices like most of the burger joints (or meisters for that matter). You get your burger pretty quickly and you're out. It's never been too crowded for me to get my burger. Great for lunch.
I tried this tonight, I have to say inexpensive delicious and friendly. The burgers were awesome!
OK... It's really 3.5 stars. The best thing here are burgers and the meat is great. Points off are for the buns (and I don't mean onthe server). The buns are tooooo much bread and sometimes dry. Otherwise everything about this place is great!... The parking, the burger, the onion rings, the beer. If only they had smaller buns. or maybe toasted...
There aren't too many places in SF I would call a staple but Tower Burger sure gets my vote. Secluded up at the top of Diamond Heights this is no diamond in the rough. Surrounded by an affluent community, Tower Burger's smoke stack permeates the neighborhood with BBQ-esque type smells that makes the local vendors salivate. The Tower Burger with cheese, bacon and mushrooms is the top hit and with a side of rings you're sittin pretty. This place is also the cleanest burger establishment I've been in and the quality of food is outstanding. I just wish they made an original philly cheese like the ones I get back east, that way I could kill two birds with one stone.
I would say they either need to give more quality food or charge less.
If a burger, fries and a soda cost $10-12, they need to be great and BIG. The burger is average size, the drink is very small and the fries while ample, were dry for some reason (hard to get down).
The chicken sandwich on a roll was pretty good. A bit dry though.
The place is roomy and clean and I found the staff to be helpful and quite friendly, but overall it was over-priced. It is a nice spot really.
I would expect to pay more like $7-8 for a meal here, not the $10-12 that it came out tobe for each of us.
2.5
There's no denying they make a good burger here. Nice beefy patty, great bun, generous toppings.
But for 7 bucks for the burger and 2 bucks more for onion rings...I expect more.
They only gave me 5 onion rings, who does that? I expected like a basket of 'em. I expected to have so much that I have to decide whether to eat 1 more or throw the rest of it away. But 5?? I mean when did onion rings become tapas?
I liked the burger but 1 meal cost me about 12 dollars for a hamburger, onion rings and a drink. Not worth it. I won't be coming back.
I'd rather go to nation's.
I love burgers and this place gets it right!
I had the Paris burger, grilled mushrooms with a thin slab of brie cheese...oh yeah baby!!!
It was grubbin!
The bf got the bacon cheeseburger and he demolished it...
I'll be back again fo sho!
As a Miraloma Park resident, I know I always have a good local option to get a great burger. The Niman Ranch burgers are always tasty and perfectly cooked.
I wish they had a few more cheese choices (like bleu cheese), but the fries are good, onion rings are good, and the staff is always very friendly.
A long time ago I ordered a chocolate shake, and got one made with chocolate ice cream rather than the traditional way of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. In my opinion, that's just wrong, but maybe they've switched to the traditional vanilla / choc syrup since then.
I just wish they were more generous with the onion rings that I had ordered. They charged me an extra $3.50 for a side of onion rings to go with my burger, and I got a total of 6 onion rings!
Don't get me wrong these rings were good with a nice, creamy ring of hot onion surrounded by a golden, crispy battered shell but considering the quantity/price - totally not worth it!
I had the Tower Burger with crispy bacon, mushrooms, grilled onions and cheese (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). The burger was cooked a perfect medium well with just the right amount of pink and juices flowing. Very beefy flavor although there was just a slight charred taste to the meat.
You order at the counter and you're given a table number. Your food is brought to you lightning fast. I think my wait was less than five minutes and my food was ready to go.

For years my buddy MF, the soon to be mega-watt premium cable show creator, has been raving and ranting at me about Tower Burger. While I was down south recently, as we drove past Tommy's and Fatburger franchisees he openly scoffed.
MF
If I could bring ONE place down here it would be Tower Burger.
NN
That good?
MF
Don't even start me up, baby. I'll make you keep driving till with get back to civilization.
Okay, so it didn't go down quite like that. Yet when Kym and I were figuring out lunch today while I played with my iPhone she declared that she wanted somewhere she could get fries since her Chinese medicine practitioner friend was putting her on an all brown rice diet for a week so she can diagnose an allergy she's been having.
A week without fried foods sounds like hell to me too. What to do?
Well the new App store made Yelp just a click away. Where can I get fries and a veggie burger close to the Panhandle that doesn't suck?
Oh look, Tower Burger. What a coinkydink!
[REVIEW BIT]
Unlike some Burger Joints... heh... Tower doesn't try and overwhelm you with the burger and fixin's. In fact presentation had me almost scratching my head. "Where's the overload?" I thought.
Yet that was the best part... the portions were perfect. This was just the right amount of Niman Ranch beef cooked precisely to order. Most short order cooks frak up medium well one way or another. The fries are crisp shoestrings that earn a "Best In Class"- with bonus points for Malt Vinegar on the table.
Kym ordered the veggie burger-- with bacon!!-- and chowed down with pre-cleanse glee.
I walked out feeling not too full and not at all empty, that elusive "just right", and without any of the queasiness I got from the last time I ate at my formerly beloved Nation's.
MF, you were wrong about "Mongol", but soooo right about Tower Burger.
Damn good burgers here....
I had the bacon cheese burger with extra cheese... well done... it was GREAT!! Crispy, thick bacon... good cheddar cheese... fresh toppings... good bun... great fries.... decent prices....
Me likes...
If in the area, hungry, Tower Burger will not let you down! Service is fine (I think they might actually read their reviews) the burgers are Niman Ranch. Nothing to drive for miles for, but truly dandy when you are in this part of town. Seems clean too.
Good food in a pinch. I live nearby and work from home often. This place has saved me many times from ordering a pizza or getting into my car and wasting 45 minutes on a mid day food finding odyssey.
The burgers are big, juicy, and flavorful. Salads are bland and don't taste fresh - but that's what you get for ordering salad at a place with burger in its name.
TIP: Skip the fries and go for some onion rings.....mmmm. Then be prepared for a mid afternoon siesta once you've finished your plate.
Oh, how I miss the Doggie Diner.
Good portabella mushroom burger! A tiny bit pricy, but great service and good food.
Ooh snap!!!!! Another great burger joint in the city!
Bacon cheeseburger is the only way to do it and Tower Burger has it right! Excellent tasty meat, bacon done right, and cheese properly melted. Fries were awesome as well as the onion rings (I snaked a few from a friend!)
Decent burger prices, staff is great, and the place is super clean!
I tend to go bacon cheeseburger whenever I do burgers so I know my bacon cheeseburger, this place is definitely memorable and worth the return trip.
Although it has probably been a year since I have gone I do remember something about organic beef...
Regardless, this place is really freakin' good. In fact, whenever I am in town and crashing on Jerry's couch down the street I try and make it a point to make him drive me here and then go up to the towers to burn one down as we munch away our sorrows. After all, food always tastes better when you have a view of the Bay from that high up. Teeheehee... I also always call in the order right before he puts the finishing touches on the splief and by the time we arrive five minutes later the order has just hit the counter.
One word: onion-rings
See how I made "onion rings" into only one word? Like that? Yeah, I betcha did.
I think this is one of the better burger places I've been to in San Francisco. Like a lot of other reviewers have been saying, the meat is great, prices are cheap, and service is really quick. It's never really been very crowded when I've come here which is also a plus...sometimes you just don't feel like waiting 20 minutes for a burger at In-n-out which is ALWAYS completely packed.
Tower's bordering on pricey, though, $10 for a burger meal is about the standard now in this town. I still know I can get the same combo for less elsewhere. Offerings are similar to Bistro Burger. It seems like there's a hoard of veggie options, but there's really just two: a mushroom burger or a gardenburger with numerous topping selections. While not as generous with the fries, they were cooked to perfection, and that beats fistfuls of soggy fries any day.
Coming in with the impression of a small, greasy diner, it was a lot cleaner and larger than I had expected. Run by sweet folks, Tower Burger's a total godsend if you happen to be stuck in this area.
Great burgers with lots of options including turkey, niman ranch beef, salads. They are fast and friendy, dinner for our 5 came up in maybe 10/15 minutes. All this makes it really kid friendly....no wait, good food and cheap so you don't feel bad if they don't finish everything.
But what I really like about this place is its "score". They consistently have the highest score from the regulators at DPH that I have ever seen posted. Last night, it was 100%. Whahoo, lets hear it for cleanliness!!!
Have you ever ordered take-out from a place and been told it'll be ready in five minutes? Better yet - have you ever had this happen every time you've ordered take-out? Well I have and Tower Burger is the place.
Tower has continually astounded me with their speed and their good juicy burgers. They also make a mean bowl of steaming chili and their shakes are fantastic as well. This is a great place for hangover food because it's not only delicious but also made from high-quality ingredients.
Probably the only reason I ever tried this place is because I live a block away and sooner or later I was bound to wind up too hungry and impatient to cook or to drive anywhere.
You'd think this is just your token strip mall burger place, but they really know how to make a good burger here. They'll make it however you want, and it's nice and greasy. The pink-beige walls are very Daly City. In short, a great, relatively unknown burger dive.
Walking up Laguna Honda, on the quest for "THE BURGER", I dreamt of a delicious cheeseburger with bacon, a cozy booth to cuddle up in after a long day of work, and singing along to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston as I stuff my face with said burger.
It all happens here.
