Where do I start this place is the bomb a hidden gem in San Bruno that has you feeling like a new WOMAN when you leave.
Claire the esthetician is the bomb she is very thorough with her lil' gentle hands and makes sure your comfortable and walks you through all the steps of what she is doing and why during your facial. This place uses all AVEDA products which is another plus!!! Claire also hooked up me and my husband up with a facial that was well needed making us feel like a million bucks when we walked out!! I drove all the way from Dublin as it was well worth it!! I love Claire's attention to detail after my facial she did my make-up with natural and subtle then pointed out my eyebrow being crooked. She had the proof she measured them showing me how they the innerbrow needs to be aligned with the outer corner of my nose!! OMG eyebrow 101 this chick knows her stuff!! She is so talented & such an master in her field!!!! My husband did the 30 minutes man facial with a 30 minute massage that he said was awesome! I on the other hand got a hair cut as well with Catherine who hooked me up. Before I walked in there I was feeling so frumpy and just knew I needed to start this New Year with a new do to bring back my SASSY LOL. All I told Catherine was to make me feel sassy again and that I like definition & edginess!! I told her that she is the artist and to work her magic!! She sure did with so much confidence as she has been in the business forever!!!
People the word is out go to C&C (Catherine & Claire) to feel brand new and start 2011 bringing yo sexy back LOL!!!! Thank you Total Concern 2 I shall be back -

I recently went to Total concern 2 and have been going there for the last 2 or 3 years. I must say the first time I went there it was pleasant because it was my first time so of course it will be nice. But as the months and years passed by, it became a little intolerable by this woman's crude attitude and her cut throat nature. Her name is Cathy. She will work according to how SHE feels. She is most insensitive and emotionless and really does not care for her customers. She just talks to them to show how she is giving them full attention. She is actually wasting our time. I really don't like hearing her non stop stories. I just want her to keep her mouth shut and do her job without taking so much of my time. She contradicts to everything what we want her to do. When you want something according to your likes/ style, she does it just the opposite - because SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING. If you request her that you want her to be gentle on your hair, she will do the opposite. She will be so rough and brutal it's tearfully painful. Sometimes, depending on which side of the bed she woke up from, she will not wash your head with shampoo after the hair color. Just water. Very moody!! I mean, no matter how much of a failure your personal life is - this is where you earn your livelihood. The woman is eccentric and has no right to subject her customer to this abuse. She is curt, mean, grouchy and ill tempered. I feel very disappointed and disgusted by her Nasty Impatient attitude. She need not take out her frustrations on her customers who bring home her daily bread. What an ungrateful person!
She needs to do something else not AVEDA. She is a DISGRACE to Aveda and people like us should make a complaint about her to the company. I will never go to her again. I am giving her one star only because of the name Aveda. I will not make the mistake to go to her again. -

Oh Cathy. I really wanted to love you. Especially since I had a semi positive experience with you the first time I went to your salon for a cut. Reading all the reviews left behind, I've come to the conclusion that you might be a little manic. Super nice friendly the first time around, mean deviant and cutthroat the second. What gives?
I am honestly very disappointed with my hair. I came to Cathy wanting to feel vibrant, full and alive with a new look, a week and a half later, I just feel ugly. It looks like I clumsily did the highlights myself and my haircut looks like it's already due for a trim. All this for almost $200??? Ay me!
NOTE to potential customers: like the other posters have stated, she IS unreliable when it comes to communication. You cannot be guaranteed a response when you call the salon. and seriously folks: Cathy will cut your hair in accordance to the mood she's in. Is this really the kind of person you want cutting your hair? Choose a stylist who will serve your hair great everytime without a hitch. OR without any wavering and inconsistencies. Also, I can't help but feel like she over-charged me. Heck she did overcharge me. I tried to dispute this with her when I called back and honestly was met with a brick wall. Total Concern my arse!
In conclusion, I'm sure Cathy has done amazing work as a stylist in the past but I will not go back to her. If I were you, take the positive reviews with a grain of salt and listen very carefully to all of the other reviews including the less than positive ones.

Sorry Catherine. Only 1 star because of AVEDA, that's all.
Too bad you give AVEDA a bad name. This is a poorly run, poor customer service, undependable hours open and an owner who does things her own way. I was embarassed to tell anyone I got my hair cut at an AVEDA salon. My hair came out so chopped up, it took 2 trims and 2 months to get it looking half-OK. I will never go back. I called her to see if she could "fix" my hair because it was razored and so uneven -- she didn't like that I said I only wanted a trim, and being the customer I was dissatisfied. She hung up on me. Bad move. I will never go back.
Bad damage control for a business owner. -

I love my hair since I've been coming here. Seriously the color is fabulous and holds beautifully between visits. I have a young, trendy and manageable hair cut. I have been feeling so good about my hair since I have been seeing Cathy and I never did when I went to other salons (i have naturally brown, not curly, not straight hair that is two textures and frizzy!...yuck!).
We have great chats. I think what some of the poor posts don't understand is that she is direct. I don't mind the relaxed time as I have come to enjoy reading magazines and chatting. If you are on a time crunch just make it clear and she always works with me.
Cathy is incredibly professional and really knows her stuff. Try her out and let her tell you honestly what she thinks about your hair (don't take it hard)...go with it and then tell her what you think. (she can handle it)..give it three visits and you will be hooked! She is an artist! -

If you want to be forgotten while you are getting your haircut this is a good place to go.
If you want your hair stylist to talk on the phone WHILE cutting your hair this is your spot.
If you like to be ignored when you walk into a tiny salon and sit waiting and waiting and waiting for your appointment this is your kind of salon.
I am a huge fan of Aveda so this was a major disappointment for me. It was close to my house and now I just make the drive into the city. -

Cathy is the funniest, most interesting stylist I've ever met. She'll talk your ear off! But she's so nice and sweet and her stories are always interesting.
Her salon is tiny and a bit hidden so she doesn't normally take walk-ins. Besides, she's usually the only one there so you'll definitely need to make an appointment.
She's a bit eccentric (just look at her hair!) in her styling, so if you don't like super trendy cuts, make sure you communicate well. I wasn't into my cut the first time and she was willing to make adjustments the next day and I loved it.
She also does make up, weddings and up-dos. -

I need to keep it real for my fellow Yelpers. I rely on your honest feedback when I make my decisions and owe it to you to do the same.
I got a Groupon and based on the positive reviews here, was hopeful that this would be a great experience. We'll start with an optimistic 5 stars.
-Take a star off for the way I was greeted. Cathy was brusque and off-putting. I went to sit down in the shampoo chair and apparently she wasn't ready for me. She made a face and rolled her eyes at me. Same thing happened at her station. Very odd.
- Take another star off for the color job. I love the color she chose, but she forgot to add the fixative before applying the color (I told her my hair was resistant to dyes). As a result, there's a patch of gray in the front. Not cool.
- Minus another for the haircut. I was apprehensive when she took out her razor, after reading the reviews here. But she said it would give my hair movement and she claimed to be an artist with vision, etc. so I let her at it. A mere ten minutes later, she said she was done with the cut (really??) When I pointed out that one side was longer than the other, she said it was fine. When I said the overall length was too long, she disagreed and said I could come back in a week if I still felt that way.
- She put so much goop in my hair, I couldn't really evaluate the cut properly. The next day, I could see how back it really was - uneven and unflattering - and how little movement my hair had. My husband said it looked like I had a helmet mullet (egads!). It was such a bad cut, I couldn't trust her ability to fix it (minus a star for that).
Cathy needs to talk less about how great she is and deliver more. She's probably better at events and wedding, because she can manipulate hair into updos, etc. But if you're looking for a well-executed cut, look elsewhere.
On a positive note, her aesthetician seemed nice.
That Groupon "deal" turned out to be anything but. I won't be back. -

I've been searching for a good stylist for ages and I finally found Cathy at Total Concern2! I usually request short hair and some of the stylists in the past have either given me a men's cut or completely ignored my requests.
The atmosphere of the salon is great. It's tiny but that is good because there is no hustle like in the big salons. A more intimate environment allows for you to talk to the stylist without any distractions.
Cathy listened to what I wanted and made suggestions according to my face, life style, etc. She did exactly what I asked her to do with a bit or creativity which made it look twice as good.
I'll be returning to her soon! Oh, and she gives you a yummy scalp massage before washing your hair. Excellent! -

I called up trying to make an appointment and I was directed to Catherine (the owner) who came across right away as snooty and arrogant. I told her she had an attitude and she admitted that she did!! way to go and lose customers. I will never take my business here. You guys do give Aveda a bad name! Don't go here and waste your time and money. I would rather go back To Cinta in S.F. or Trio in Burlingame. No manners and no customer service. the owner lacks grace.

I was on a mission to find a good massage therapist. Instead, I found an amazing one...Sammy. To say he's 'good' is like saying the Mona Lisa is just a painting. After a preliminary consultation, he spent most of the 75 minutes on my back and shoulders, and the rest on my hand and feet. He did an amazing job working out the knots and making me feel really relaxed. He's also really nice and very informative - I even learned what exactly deep-tissue massage is.
If you're looking for a hoity-toity day spa with froofy teas and elevator music, this isn't the place for you. Even though you can hear Cathy in the next room with a customer, it didn't matter. I was still able to relax, enjoy the massage and take in the wonderful smells of the Aveda products.
I highly recommend Sammy for a massage, and can't wait to schedule my next appointment! -

One evening, my hubby and I decided that we each needed the waxing services of none other than Claire, so we called and were booked within an hour and a half. We were about half an hour early when we arrived and had to wait about 10 minutes because there was a massage finishing up. This was not at all a problem because it gave us a little time to go over with Claire exactly what we came in for. She is so super-friendly and attentive, she even introduced us to the store owner, Kathy (sp?), who seemed to be just as friendly, if not more!
While each my husband and I took turns in with Claire, we were able to receive quick, free hand massages from Gloria (I think that's her name) and that was just heavenly. It definitely gave us a feel for what her full body massages could be like and will need to schedule that in sometime soon! It was cool that this spot is by appointment only because it almost felt like we had the entire salon to ourselves.
Overall, we were taken in fast and got really great service with a big, warm smile, and then left happy, hairless and relaxed! -

Ok, after having another friend get her hair cut by Cathy, I'm kind of concerned that the things I dismissed as "just an off day" are more of a permanent thing. She ran about 30 min late. While I was getting my hair cut, Cathy talked in detail about a bad relationship. I had said I didn't want a lot of razoring, and she did a lot of razoring. Two days after the cut, it was great. Two weeks later I remembered why I didn't want a lot of razoring.
My friend went and had a similar experience - she wanted a certain length cut and Cathy didn't cut it to her specs at all. She was running about an hour late, kind of a no-no for a new mom. She also talked about some bad feelings with her family.
I still think Cathy is a very talented hair stylist. But for the price and time, I think it's fair to know what you are getting into. Sure, maybe it was just two off days. And her client base tends to be bridal in nature, so maybe us not being brides created a more casual environment. Were I someone that kept up on my hair styles (as in getting cuts every few weeks) this may be the perfect match. But after some reflection & a new cut - I'm not sure I'll be going back.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Cathy did an AMAZING job on my hair. She did exactly what I asked for and it's literally the type of haircut that you don't have to do anything to it and it looks great :) Her prices are very reasonable, especially considering that they use Aveda products at the salon (a lot of other places charge up the wazoo when they use Aveda). I have long hair and it was $55 for my cut. Another person I know who goes there has shorter hair and her cuts are $45. Overall a great place and everyone should give Cathy a try.
I didn't get a massage but I hear they are to die for. Next time... -

The hair cut looked good at the end. I was apprehensive when she was cutting it with a razor/knife like thingy but I got a lot of compliments at work. The facial was very good but it was so noisy that it was very difficult for me to relax into it. The room is small and the walls don't go up to the top. So even though the facial lady was good, I won't be going there again for a facial. Not her fault at all - its the crappy, low wall, noisy room.

Catherine and her entire staff are warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. They make you feel part of the salon family right away. The Salon is cozy and clean!
These people are skilled experts who continue to take Aveda training on a regular basis and know each and every Aveda product, ingredient, and compound in and out. (Impressive: I can't even find people who work in the Aveda store who know the products as well as Catherine does).
Catherine sat down with me to discuss color and cut. She listened to me; continued to check in about the cut and style. She gave me exactly what I had envisioned. (We have all been there, when you explain something to the hairstylist and ended up with something completely different).
Total Concern 2 are caring professionals who make you feel like a million bucks and make you look fabulous. -

I have been going to Kathy for about 10 years now. She is a very gifted hairdresser that is always in touch with the latest hair styles and trends. Not only does she cut my hair but I go to her for all up party up-do's and my wedding too! Plus since she uses Aveda products- your hair smells wonderful for days!
Whatever you do- don't ever ask her- do you do Asian hair? Hair is hair. I'm Asian and she does a great job with mine. I won't trust my hair to anybody else but Kathy -

I just had my second appointment with Roger. He's getting to know my hair, so it went faster this time (first appointment was over an hour!), but I don't mind hanging out and getting a nice aromatherapy 'buzz' from the Aveda products. I like a stylist that will just make me look good without having to explain what I want or find photos. Roger just reads my mind and makes my hair look healthy and shiny and fabulous. I get lots of compliments after my appointments. And it's nice to have Cathy there to keep the atmosphere fun, and I love it when she compliments my shoes! I'll definitely be returning to Total Concern 2.

San Bruno, CA
I went in last week for a massage after browsing reviews for a decent affordable place close to home in San Bruno, so I took a chance here. My masseuse (can't remember her name) was very nice and attentive. It was a 75-min. massage, and she did not skimp on time...She actually ended up running a bit longer, which I am certainly not complaining about, and she gently worked out some issues in my neck and shoulders without causing me pain. The massage was great, but the biggest drawback was the definitely the distraction of the salon on the other side of the wall. The massages are done in the treatment room, which is a little room attached to the main salon, and the sound carries right in through the opening between the ceiling and the dividing wall. Candles, dimmed lighting, some music and a little fountain helped a bit, but it was really hard to not let my mind wander to the stylists' conversations. While I did really enjoy the massage, I think I am just too easily distracted and need sensory deprivation to really be able to relax, so I don't think I'd schedule another here.
However...upon paying for my massage, I ended up talking with the owner Cathy and told her that I was also in need of a haircut. She was happy to schedule me an appointment a few days later. I was her first appointment for that morning and she ran a bit late, but she was very apologetic and even offered to buy me coffee. Cathy looked at the picture I brought, listened to my concerns, and was quickly able to understand my request before she began cutting. She took her time with my hair and chatted it up with me and others along the way, which was OK since I wasn't in a hurry. Cathy's quite the character, but I appreciated her stories and sense of humor.
In the end, my hair wasn't drastically different, but it looks much healthier and maintained, which was just what I wanted. It was $65 for my cut, perhaps because my hair was really long, which is high for me but on the lower end of the decent salon scale. Cathy also gave me some useful advice on how to easily style it. She convinced me to try an Aveda shampoo and even threw in some leave-in conditioner, and so far I've been very happy post-haircut with the hair and the products. I'd come back! -

Mara Felipe did a great good job on my eyebrow waxing and gave me free makeup tips. I have been to different places and have never been fully satisfied with my eyebrows. She did a really great job, listened to my concerns (one brow always appears higher than the other) and was kind. The salon charges more than other places $25 for a eyebrow wax and I don't usually spend much money to beautify myself but it was worth it. I have been to places that charge $8 and my eyebrows came out looking not very nice.

Best haircut and color I've ever had! Cathy is super fun, personal and eccentric! She's extremely talented and she knows how to make anybody look awesome. I went in with a long unruly mop and came out with a still long but now updated and gorgeous mane! She taught me to use a straightener properly and the cut is chic and cool without being fussy. I was early for my appointment and I watched her cut the person before me and it was the coolest thing - you can tell she's actually sculpting the hair like an artist. And she's got a great eye for color - I've had several different colors from very conservative to some rather funky punky incarnations and she went out and found the perfect product for what I wanted (even though it was not Aveda her signature line). I think that is real service! She isn't cheap, but she's worth every dime.

I was on the fence about giving 4 or 5 stars on a whole, but, the bottom line is, I love how my hair is cut and Aveda Color is so far superior than other color I've had that I will never go to any other salon now--so, that's got to deserve a 5. I've never seen any other stylist use the technique that Catherine implements and she is just excellent. Sure, I'm not surprised by some of the other mixed reviews. When you walk in the tiny salon, they don't always gush all over you with the hellos&howareyous but when it's your turn, the focus is all on YOU. Also, Catherine is very direct and opinionated on what will look good and what won't. My first time there I wasn't super happy with the cut but I didn't really say anything before or after. The second time I went, I told her what I thought--what I liked and didn't like, and she got it--then it was golden from then on. So, try to explain clearly what you want and what you don't want, otherwise, she may just do what she thinks best. And if you don't like what she thinks, you can take it or leave it, she doesn't take it personal because at the end of the day, it's your hair--you gotta like it and live with it. As for the other services, the Massage therapist, Gloria, is really good, however, the salon itself is not really conducive for massage. No matter how hard she tries, the acoustics are not good--the room isn't truly walled off and you hear everything. So, it's really hard to get into that "relaxing" experience. I haven't tried skin care services w/ Claire yet since my allegiance is to another esthetician however, she seems to have a good vibe and Aveda's skin products are so good, that I'm sure it's all great!

Most of my co-workers go to Cathy for hair color and cuts. They all have beautiful hair, and I made a decision to divorce my current stylist of 10 years. He completely lost his edge when he became part owner of a "hoity toity" salon in Walnut Creek, so I decided to give Cathy a try. For a first impression, I was fairly disappointed. I was her only second appointment and already she was 45 minutes late in receiving me. When she finally got to me, she was easily distracted by people coming in and out of the salon and every time she would converse with me or others she would stop working on my hair. It felt like I was in there for hours. Other than that she is very nice............but nice doesn't get me the color and cut that I want. I ended up coming out of the salon looking 10 years older. That is a no no for me. She is very trendy with cuts.....but the trendy cuts does not work for everyone. You cannot do the same cut on everyone and expect it to look great. This is why I left my other stylist in the first place. Although my experience wasn't a great one, I have to admit that my co-workers hair still looks great. Maybe she just wasn't the right fit for me. In the meantime, my search for my perfect stylist is still pending.

First, I only interacted with one person here, although she seemed to be the owner. The first mistake I made was being on time. The stylist chatted with a customer for over half an hour while another customer was waiting. Then I waited an hour while the stylist cut her hair. It was just a trim, but again she was chatting. I wanted to leave as soon as I walked in the door and saw the poor quality of the stylist's haircut, but they already had my credit card number and would charge me if I had left. On top of the shoddy customer service, the woman gave me a haircut like hers rather than what I asked for. It took her an hour to cut my hair as well, even though it should have only taken fifteen or twenty minutes as it was just a trim. Also, she made several racist comments about Latinos. WTF.

Review from Sharon B.
I've gone to this place twice and I LOVE the facials I get there. My esthetician, Claire, is awesome. I love how she gets me in (no wait) and immediately, I am whisked away into a very calming room where I am to undress and put a towel over myself. As soon as I lay down on the table bed, I am SO ready for total pampering. Claire comes in and after small chit chat, she gets down to business. She has me inhale deeply three aromatherapy scents. I am asked to choose one and throughout the session, that is the scent she uses on me. Claire begins her facial and I end up falling asleep. I'm off and on but she does this hand and arm massage that just feels heavenly. Those parts of my body are usually ignored by me, so I'm just so surprised how enjoyable the massage is. Claire usually does this while she waits for my mask to set under the steam. When everything is complete, she has me roll up to my toes and then she puts this HOT towel on my back with aromatherapy and it's just ecstatic. She leaves me alone to dress, but not after she tells me the condition of my skin. I sit there feeling totally relaxed, peaceful and happy that I take care of myself this way. I am always a better person afterwards. Claire rocks! Yes, I come back. I always do. :-) Oh and it's near my place, so it's so convenient for me and parking is NEVER a problem.

I had a 90-min facial/hand & foot treatment tonight with Claire - and it was wonderful! Claire is very professional and friendly. She takes her time and was very thorough with the extractions. She also massages your scalp, shoulders, arms & hands. It was SO relaxing! When I got home, I looked in the mirror and my skin was so soft and clean. I'm definitely going back for another facial. Highly recommended!

I went to Cathy for a regular hair cut.. nothing too fancy or drastic. I showed up 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment. I noticed she already had 2 people in the chairs and she was working on both of them. I am not a hair stylist but i definitely could tell that she was not even close to being finished. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and waited. BIG MISTAKE.. i ended up waiting for a little over an hour. She felt absolutely no sense of urgency and was frolicking around sipping on her coffee and playing with her ipod. When she finally called me to the chair she offered absolutely no apologies and freaked out when she saw my cellphone in my hand. WTF?? you freaking weirdo... How the heck am i supposed to know you have a no cellphone policy you freak of nature? She literally looked at my phone like i was pointing a gun to her. Aside from that dramatic soap opera scene, the cut itself wasn't exactly what i had asked for. By this time I had already been there for over 2 hours (cut took 30 mins) and was ready to leave. Needless to say i will NEVER EVER return and did not tip her at all.

In a tiny salon off of El Camino in San Bruno, I may have found my perfect hairstylist. Cathy is amazing. It is expensive, but definitely worth it because she gives me a sweet razored/layered haircut and I only need to go back every 2 or 3 months. She's attentive to your desires, and does weddings/events - makeup, updos, everything. And she's hilarious -- I love being able to come in, relax and hang out with an awesome lady, all while getting pretty. Some people may be concerned with the fact that it takes a long time to be seen or get out; I solve this by coming on a day off so that I am not stressed. You can't rush perfection, am I right?

One of my besties took me here to get a facial when I went to the Bay Area. It was a more than a facial it was an experience. The facial concentrated on your face and your pores and getting all that bad stuff out and cleansing. The extractions didn't hurt. She has good touch and got it all out without your face being swollen or red. It was very relaxing. At the end of the treatment I got a mini massage. It was more than I expected and a nice surprise. I used to live in NYC and would get facials on regular basis and never had the extra treatment. Like I said this was an experience. After the facial I received a complimentary massage from the massage therapist, which was super cool. When I left the salon I was glowing and felt like a million bucks. Plus the cost was not bad at all. After the facial, I loved how my skin looked. I bought the eye cream and love it. I went to Claire. She is amazing. I definitely recommend her.

OMG! Cathy is a life saver. I had never been to Total Concern until yesterday when I was in a hair nightmare. I went to another salon earlier in the day where they completely butchered my hair. I called in tears to Cathy and told her that I looked like Charlie Chaplin! She told me to come on over to see what she could do about it. I arrived and she was the first to greet me and she addressed me by my name. I already felt so touched that she remembered who I was from our phone conversation. Several clients that were there told me that Cathy could work miracles and fix my butchered hair cut. Boy oh boy, Cathy sure did deliver. She had basically nothing to work with because the previous lady cut my hair so short but Cathy made magic happen. Although I still have to wait for my hair to grow back, Cathy made that journey much more bearable for me. I will be a return customer from here on out.
