Total Beauty Experience is a great retail store for hard-to-find hair products.  It carries brand name hair products that are only found at high-end salons.  Here you will find a huge selection of shampoos, conditioners, and styling gels/creams.  Prices for these products range from low to high depending on the brand name but very comparable to prices at other beauty product stores.

In addition to hair products, you will also find a large selection of personal care products such as lotions, nail polishes, and hair accessories including hair dyers and styling irons.  There is also a salon in the back.

I also like that the salespeople at the register give free samples with every purchase.  However, I did notice that the salespeople on the floor were a bit "too friendly" and ready to offer help at every corner.

I would definitely go back just for the large selection of hair products (my main reason for giving Total Beauty Experience 4 stars) though I would be a bit leery of the "making sure you aren't stealing anything" customer service.

This place drives me crazy!  It has an amazing selection of hair, skin, and makeup product but I always feel like I am being watched to see if I am going to steal something.  I have had this feeling ever since I first visited when I was in my early 20's and still now that I am in my mid-30's.  I would check out Ulta (down at Howe 'bout Arden) or Sephora (in Arden Fair) first, solely based on the creepy vibe.

I've been coming here for years to find those hard to find hair care items that no one else seems to carry or that only salons carry.  If they don't have it here no one does.   I love the phenomenal selection, knowledgeable staff, and of course the other part of the store with lotions, candles, nail polish and other gifty items that you have to stay out of or you'll end up with waaayyy too much stuff.

I don't think they have the best prices in town so try to hit them when they are having a sale on the brand you are looking for.  The owner John is often there and is very friendly.  Plus they always give you samples and usually of the brand you are buying or something similar.

The only downside, and my reason for only four stars, is that staff is a bit overbearing, I shouldn't have to tell four different people I don't need any help.   If they really want to watch their customers that carefully they should get a better security system and pay someone to watch the monitors instead of making customers feel like they want to bolt after the 5th person asks if you "need any help". The last time I was there they seems to be a bit subdued I was only asked once so maybe they've gotten the hint that customers don't want to be followed around the store.

You might find the brand you are looking for elsewhere but rarely do they have the entire line like Total Beauty.

I came into this store to kill some time from the long wait at crossroads nex door.  I was looking for white violet shampoo, which i did find but didnt buy.  It was 21 dollars for a big bottle, i wasnt sure how much its gonna be at ulta.  Well, i shouldve bought it!!!  At ulta, they sell a smaller bottle for 17 dollars.  I need to go back and get it now!!!  I missed their liter shampoo/conditoner sale, hope theres one soon.  I didnt browse the entire store but am sure to say they carry a whole lot of products...and gifts etc.

Youll find all kinds of beauty stuff here, for sure....

I really like the service here. They know how to sell. And in my mind that's a good thing. When I ask the difference between tweezers ($11.95 vrs. $38.95) they know. And if I wanted to buy the $11.95 pair they are just as cheerful as if I wanted to buy the $38.95. (I bought the more expensive pair. I mean how often do you need to buy good tweezers?)  They have a lot of choices and a lot of sales people on the floor to help. But if you like to just browse around, they leave you to do that, too. Always helpful, always have what I need. That makes 5 stars for me.

Can't comment on the services as I don't use them, i.e. hair salon.

This is a fun place. Great selection of beauty products, at least in terms of facial products, nail polish, lotions, etc. I haven't ventured much into the hair products or tried the hair salon, but found the dermatologist specialist to be very helpful when I wandered in one day in search of a certain moisturizer.  Lots of fun, cheeky gifts, too - perfect for finding something for a girlfriend's birthday present.

And yes, the first time I went in, the sales people were a little overattentive, but I find as long as you have an "I know what I'm here for" attitude when I walk in, they aren't as aggressive.

I go here for my hair cuts because Tim specializes in short hair and does a fabulous job. I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair as I have since I started going to Tim.

I've never had any unpleasant experiences with the owner, but I definitely have noticed a hike in the prices of their products recently. I don't have any particular attachment to the store, aside from my stylist being there. I probably wouldn't go if it weren't for him.

I love coming in here - there is so much girly stuff to look at I can spend a very long time looking. They have a great selection of hair and beauty products but are a bit pricey.  The owner is very knowledgeable and nice.  They have cool gifts like candles and such too.

This place is truly Girly-Girl Heaven!  There are tons and tons of hair products but what you will love is all the beautiful lotions, bubble bath, candles, hair accessories, tote bags, make-up and just STUFF that girls love!  I will definitely do my Christmas shopping there for all my female friends and family.

I was greeted by someone right at the door but she was able to direct me right over to the Deva Curly hair products I was looking for.  Otherwise I would have been lost in there.

The only negative thing I have to say is the girl at the register was all about that forced nice-ness that just exhausts you."HOW ARE YOU? HAVE YOU SHOPPED WITH US BEFORE?? OH I'M FABULOUS!!! THANK YOU!!!!"   Ugh.......

But she gave me a ton of samples so I can put up with it.

Check it out you will not be dissapointed.

Do you remember back in high school how there was this one group of girls that thought they were above everyone else?  You know, those girls who spend daddy's money to look good, flirt with the football players to be popular (to cover up their insecurities) and flirt with nerds to do their homework for them (to cover up their double digit IQ levels)?  Kind of like those girls from the movie "Heathers," only without a redeeming Winona Ryder in the group.

Anyway, this place and its clients are that high school group all over again.  (Probably the same girls at 24 hr fitness who "reserve" spaces in the kickboxing classes.)  My wife read in Sacramento magazine that they were rated at the top so she dropped in to the salon to inquire about getting a haircut and was confronted by one of the workers who gave her the elevator eyes (not once, but twice!) and condescendingly tried to hint that perhaps this place was too expensive for her.

Me thunketh that it was pretty funny that they--who lack good education and get by in life with an M.r.s. degree--would treat my wife, who has a masters degree and is married to a physician, as if she was a dishwasher for IHOP.  (IHOP dishwashers deserve love, too, by the way.)  Needless to say my wife walked out without dropping any bills.  I told her that she should go back with her diamond ring on and say, "how you like me now, biyatches!" but then she reprimanded me for being mean.

I guess they forgot that when you press fast forward on the DVR you'll find out that those girls from high school all ended up bitter and alone after gravity took its toll.

But there's hope, my friends at Total Beauty Experience...just remember that Jesus loves you, even though I don't. ;)

For extremely petulant and bad service this place gets franksabunched with 1 star (only because there is no ZERO option).

I used to shop at this store all the time since it has such a large selection of hair products. I am a hair product junkie. I also like to browse the store for quite some time before I settle on my purchase...however, I will most likely never go back due to the negative energy.
First, I can't shake the feeling that I am being followed by a shadow. Seriously, the employees are lurking at every corner, even following you down the isles asking if you need help. Sometimes its nice when you actually have a question, but it gets tiring saying, "no thanks!" about 5 times in 10 minutes.
Secondly, I was really annoyed by the owner (which I figured out it was him after reading other reviews..). Here's the brief story...I had a large bandage over my wrist due to a burn. I was walking around the store and he walks up to me, looks at the bandage on my wrist and says " Smile, life isn't THAT bad."   Huh? Whaaaaat? It just wierded me out...
After reading the rest of the reviews I realized I wasn't the only one with a bizarre or rude experience. Everything about the store, the owners, and the fake store employees makes me cringe...

Do you know that weird, uncomfortable feeling you get when you step onto a car lot and a mass of salesmen are all trying to hump your leg? well, you get that weird feeling at this place. There is a door greeter... (she looks thrilled by the way.... ) LOL and then as you are walking around, there are various sales people that follow you and watch you from the ends of the aisles... I felt like they thought I was going to shoplift or something.....  creepy. Over solicited help is an understatement.
The owners are super fake-nice to you... and just seem overly excited about getting your money at the counter. They throw in some crappy samples with your purchase, but the samples do not suffice for the discomfort.
The prices are a little high but the selection is pretty good so I can see why people go there for hard-to-find products. I had my hair done one time at the salon, it was so expensive I should have had my credit ran and had some financing options available!
Nobody there seems genuine or down to earth...  you'll feel your ass pucker the minute you walk in the door.

Pretty much the only reason I find myself in the Arden area. I went in the other day and noticed that my shampoo was waaaay more expensive then I remember. When I mentioned this, a manager? offered to find out if it was a mismarked price tag. He came back with information that the price increased 20% in January. I appreciated the honesty. He also mentioned that that usually indicates the company increased TBE cost, as to explain such a large markup. I understand, and again, appreciated the honesty. I like that they have candles and small gifts, too.

Let's see here they don't carry hair color or extensions except for that Jessica Simpson crap, and the stuff they do have is all expensive, and not much of it.  I will go back, but only because they have BIG bottles of bedhead shampoo and conditioner for $20.  but you know the place is bad when the employees are telling you to go to Sally's.

Went here to get some Gilden Tree products. It was a little cluttered in there aisles were narrow and products looked like it's been sitting for a while. Everywhere I turned, an employee bum rushed me and asked if i needed help. I didn't, but I stayed there maybe 15 minutes and more than 5 employees came up to me. Wow, they must be bored and don't understand the line of customer service and annoyance. They have lots of salon products and everything you need from head to toe. The prices are a bit pricey, but that's what  you should expect from salon type products.

huge selection of products ranging from high end to budget friendly. they carried a lot of stuff i'd never seen or heard of before, which for me is a great incentive to buy.

my only qualm was that they didn't carry hair dye. i think i saw some henna, but i need the real stuff. no biggie though, sally beauty supply is always good for that.

I like this store because they seem to have everything.  More importantly they ALWAYS have Ginger Milk by the Thymes in.  The service is pretty on point, I have always been able to find someone to help me when needed.  They also have some really great random items to purchase as gifts.

I used to spend at least $30 a month at the Total Beauty Experience until I had the chance to speak to the owner of this most unbeautiful establishment.  I took pride shopping at this store because I really like patronizing local establishments, but I've  had a much better "experience" purchasing hair products from my stylist, and buying Dermalogica products elsewhere.

After search for weeks for one particular lotion that I had found at Sephora that is being phased out, some of the sales ladies at Sephora told me to go to Total Beauty Experience for this particular brand. It's about 5 minutes away from Arden Fair Mall, right next to Crossroads Trading Co., and it carries a TON of beauty products. When I opened the door, a very helpful lady was there to help me find the lotion I was so desperately seeking out. She knew exactly where it was, and immediately wrote me up the slip to be taken to the register to buy my coveted lotion. The salespeople at the register give a few samples with every purchase, mine were all shampoo/conditioner. This store has about 3 times the amount of products Sephora does, but I didn't really have that much time to look around the store to see what brands they carry. They also have a salon in the back, although I'm not sure what type of dyes/treatments they use. I will definitely go here again though because the salespeople were very helpful and friendly, and free samples always make my day a little better :)
