Their Orange Chicken equivalent was soggy.
WHO messes up Orange Chicken?!?! Get your act together Toshi!!
==
Everyone should try this one time. JUST to see how bad it is.
FAIL!
Is Zero stars an option? (I tried posting without rating and Zero stars is NOT an option. But ZERO STARS IS my rating despite the required star I've given it.)
There should also be a an option above with the "good for groups, good for kids" area that reads, "Good for human consumption?" NO!
When I first stated working at (where I work) I tried Samurai Sam's. Suffice it to say, the massive booty explosion I had RIGHT AFTER lunch was indicative of the quality of food there. My booty explosion was probably more edible than what I actually put in my mouth from there. (Sorry about the visual.)
Then Samurai Sam's closed and in it's place, TOSHI'S! EUREKA! A NEW PLACE TO EAT!!! But alas, the hair net dude from S.S. was there and we were, in fact, DUPED.
Toshi's is a massive turd on the face of dining. I seriously tried, not once but TWICE and both times resulted in an impromptu colonic.
The food here is NOT GOOD!
They need to worry about their own food as opposed to getting Bool or Green Truck ticketed.
Go away!
My meal here was the first time I pondered what exactly I was eating mid-bite, and then took a look at my half-eaten food before completely losing my appetite.
I have no idea what goes in their Orange Chicken dish, but it's definitely something soggy, oily and gross. I'm never eating here again, unless the restaurants next door burn down.
That pretty much sums it up.
How can you call something "FRESH" Asian when everything is served from holding trays on a heating table? Unless you cajole them (or happen to be in the serving line at the right time), they don't make anything to order. It's the same limited selection of bland, overly greasy colon killers every day. The food is just terrible and an affront to all things Asian.
I bear no ill will towards a restaurant that serves terrible food and minds its own business, I just don't go there. Unfortunately Toshi's has decided to launch attacks on the taco trucks and other mobile food service vehicles that serve Museum Square. That's where I draw the line. Apparently, in the age of Yelp and Twitter, word has spread pretty fast.
I work in the Museum Square area and our choices for convenient, quality restaurants are severely limited. Having several truck options to choose from at least gives us a break from Koo Koo Roo and Baja Fresh. What Toshi's needs to understand is that they are not losing business because of a taco truck or two. They are the pariah of Museum Square because their food sucks. Their anti-truck terror campaign is just another self-induced nail in the coffin.
TOTALLY SHOCKED at this place. IT'S SO BAD! Just had their chicken teriyaki for lunch. If I start vomiting in two hours, I know why. I swear I was eating rotten chicken with some old sugar slop sauce. You ask why I continued eating it? I was with friends at a get-together lunch. I didn't want to spoil the mood. I guess I could have taken it back and gotten something else, like Ce Fiore yogurt. At least I know that is good. However, not good enough to give this review any more stars.
Toshi's is totally disgusting. I seriously cannot believe they are still in business.
Avoid this place.... All I can say is ralphs is a block away and your better off with something from the frozen foods section. It use to be ok when it was Samurai Sam's but the new menu sucks. So just a warning.
I have eaten here a couple times. Fool me once.. then twice. I wasn't going to bother leaving a review but.. If I could give a zero I would. This place is terrible. Yucky gross food and they try to blame their poor business on the awesome food trucks that they helped drive away from the area. (hey toshi's.. the food trucks were not the ones taking business away from you, look with in).
Avoid this place like the swine flu.
At first, I was quite shocked some relatively unknown restaurant across from an office park could garner this many reviews, but now I can understand why...
If you're gonna pay over $4 for a small 6oz cup of miso soup, that better be some damn good soup! Unfortunately, the miso soup amounted to some miso powder mix in warm water and a block of tofu good for about 3 bites. =/
How many restaurants you know have made you want to vent about it? I can count them all with one finger, Toshi's included.
Hey, who doesn't like Asian food, am I right? So I ventured in to Toshi's thinking, "how bad could it be?" The answer? Bad. The food is slop, covered in various oozy goos that taste like the flavor template based on their color.
Now, Toshi's has become a cautionary tale...a penalty to be absorbed in the case of extreme wrongdoing, as in, "Go ahead, sleep with my wife again...and I'll take you to f***in' Toshi's!" Someday, when I want my kids to sleep, I will threaten them with Toshi's, and they will run, screaming, and grasp their pillows for fear of having to taste a single, disgusting bite of their food.
In short, I didn't like it.
I haven't had the food here because my co-workers have had horrendous experiences, but I thought I'd give the CeFiore frozen yogurt a try, since I've been to CeFiore stores and liked it.
Maybe because I went later in the day, but the toppings bar was a mess. Every topping bin had other toppings in it and stuff was all over the counter. Not very sanitary or appetizing. The yogurt itself was kind of soft and melted too.
I didn't pay attention to how much they were charging per ounce, but I know that what I normally get at Yogurtland or other self-serve places for about $2 came out to be $5.50!! Next time I'll just walk/drive a bit further.
If you're stuck in the area and get a craving for frozen treats, try the 'King Kone' truck (which frequently parks across the street) or Ralph's instead.
The food here is just bad. Nothing tastes fresh and the meat quality is poor. Their Miso soup is passable, but how hard is that? This place makes Panda Express seem like a five-star restaurant. It's also overpriced for what you get and their sushi offering is what you'd expect at a supermarket.
Used to be called Samurai Sam's, but the name change didn't result in a quality upgrade. You can recently see them advertising huge discounts on ordering large amounts of food before they close. I guess they aren't selling what they are cooking.
This is one of the few places close to my office and I wish a better eatery would take over the space.
This place sucks, plain and simple. Not only is the food incredibly bad, but it's overpriced and the ownership is despicable. I'm surprised that what they serve here is actually considered edible. They must have a deal with the Devil to still be in business.
This restaurant's very existence hurts my feelings.
Sub-standard food and lousy service. We wound up throwing our food away when we were finally served. Not only was the food cold but it was barely edible. Toshi's may serve what passes as "Asian" food, but "fresh" it isn't.
Absolutely awful asian food. Lousy sauces, low quality meat, chef that has no idea what he's doing. Makes Panda express seem gourmet. At least Panda has a formula and does it right. This place just makes crap.
I've tried it 3 or 4 times, only because of the close proximity to my office and the lack of other options. The last time, I found a piece of gravel in my food.
Also, the place used to be a Samurai Sams, but that failed, so the owner changed the name and modified the food. It's different, but equally awful.
I'm a huge fan of americanized asian food, so I go here often. It's not my favorite, but there are some really good things about it. The chow mein is pretty decent, and the sweet & sour pork is actually *quite* tasty. That said, today I got the mixed veggies and there was this weird gooey white stuff on it. Every other time I've been has been better, so just take a look at the veggies first :D
Previously known as Samurai Sam's Teriyaki Grill, Toshi's is another Asian Fusion attempt to spice up Miracle Mile lunch courtyard. Pretty much the only thing missing from this strip is a good quality Asian/sushi place and Toshi's attempts to provide it.
I give it 3 stars for having 2 variety of tofu - regular stir fry and braised with shitake mushrooms! upgrade!!! They also have a salad bar and they are more than nice to hand out free samples! The salads are also not as typical as at the regular places, because they are more at the Japanese side, like chilled sesame cucumber, seaweed, spicy peanut noodle, fennel, mushroom and mint and white radishes. Their menu is also more impressive than any other average orange chicken place. There is a choice of beef (black bean/chilli sauce;mongolian with chinese cabbage), pork (sweet and sour, tomato and pineapple), chicken (poached with soy ginger dressing; stir fried with honey and ginger; orange and lemon; kung pao) fish (steamed snapper; shrimp, salmon) or tofu (black bean/chili; braised with shitake, tomato and pea) as an entree/entrees plus side/sides, or a bowl. They have steamed jasmine rice with lemongrass, brown rice and vegetable fried rice, which is a nice healthier choice than plain old boring white rice. For hot veggie side they have mixed veggies and spicy bean with hoisin sauce. So overall, tons of options, plus ready to pick up bowls of tuna/brown rice salad and rolls. Not bad, huh?
Definitely an upgrade from previous joint, great options and OK prices!
the only saving grace for toshi is that they carry cifiore yogurt, however somehow they manage to screw that up as well! the texture just isn't right. i agree with the person who posted that the food her is GARBAGE. complete utter crap. do not waste your time or your hunger on this place.
