Redondo Beach, CA
One of the best beaches in Southern California.
It does not seem like it should be part of Torrance, the only thing that makes it seem like it is in Torrance is the giant industrial drainage pipe in the middle of the beach. -

If I'm too lazy to drive out to El Porto in Manhattan Beach, I come here to surf but for the most part, it is flat surf.
I have to say that it is not as clean and spacious as Hermosa/Manhattan Beach or El Porto.
The boardwalk right by the beach is a great path to bike, run, walk or rollerblade.
Taking a walk on Esplanade overlooking Torrance Beach is even better. Many encounters with furry friends is fun too :)
Parking is not that bad, because if you don't find any open meters on Esplanade, you can always go up a block and park on the street on Catalina. -

Hermosa Beach, CA
There are several negative items in regards to this beach (most recent visit was yesterday):
1. There is a large sewage opening that drains into the ocean in the middle of this beach. May cause sickness if not death from the high concentration of bacteria and viruses present.
2. Large amounts of seaweed on the shore. Insect colonies are abound. There were tons of gnats, flies, lady bugs, caterpillars, and bees on the shore. Bad for kids due to diseases from gnats and flies and sting of bees.
3. If you walk along the rocks on the far south side, there is always a dead sea lion. Never fails. There it is decomposing in the California sun. The smell is putrid to be nice.
Three good items:
1. The surf grill is nice to have around considering they sell cold drinks and snacks.
2. For a beach, the restrooms are relatively clean.
3. There were always lifeguards around. That is a big plus.
I prefer Manhattan Beach for the clean shoreline and access to food and drinks near the pier. -

Torrance, CA
The day after millions of dead fish washed ashore into Redondo Beach, it also happened to be the first warm day this year. So after being with bf for a year and a half, I finally brought him to a California beach. Yes, I am aware, I am a terrible gf...
There was tons of free parking along the street Wednesday morning, and there were almost no people, something I was happy to find. We walked along the beach and saw a cluster of 20 dolphins right along the shore, and they were jumping and swimming around. It was perfect, I look forward to returning here when it's a bit warmer -

How can you describe the magic of the beaming face of a young man who has just caught his very first stand-up wave or seen a pod of dolphins in the ocean with you close enough to touch?
It was the second day of his surf lesson and I'd given him all the instructions he needed to know the day before. Today, I would simply be there in case of trouble. I saw him paddle into a wave, watched as the wave caught him and grinned as he rose to his feet. He fell near shore, stood back up and looked back out at me, praying I'd seen his magnificent accomplishment. The sparkle from his eyes and gleam from his laughter shown bright against the dullness of the morning and the green of the sea...you just knew this was a moment he'd never forget.
It was a two-fer this morning as shortly after, I spotted a pod of dolphins making their way north, slowly skirting the shoreline. I said "Watch this!" and paddled on an intercept course with the pod. He saw as for a brief moment, dolphins swam in front, in back and underneath me with no fear at all...just another thing to play with. My surfing companion, having never seen anything like this, was stunned.
It was just another magic day in the surf.Listed in: Naked Surf

Burbank, CA
I love this beach. I used to live in walking distance, sigh....
Okay, so I went back to visit and I was reminded of my love for this place...
Let me count the ways....
1. Surf competition going on today
2. Beautiful view of Palos Verdes
3. Restrooms
4. Food
5. Walk to Riviera Village
6. Free street parking or pay lot (you choose!)
7. Pretty empty
8. Great bike/walk path -
Review from Craig R.
This is a small, secluded beach. It's a gem and secret to the locals. This is where the bike path ends and begins, and the South Bay meets Palos Verdes Estates. No pier or other loud attractions. The general feeling of this beach is seclusion. Hills of flowers and cliffs protect the beach from the street, as it curves around into the cliffs of Palos Verdes Estates.
great place to escape the crowds of Redondo to the north and has a park with great vistas and volleyball.
A popular longboarding beach, it is best on a North/ Northwest swell. Other activities include swings and volleyball. The restrooms and showers are all very clean.Listed in: Best local Beaches

Torrance, CA
It's alright, I think it's best at night because it's really calm. It's clean, spacious, parking isn't too bad, and there are a good amount of things around to do (eat/coffee/dessert).
The reason for 1-star is that it isn't special, just a piece of land that's there.
If you don't mind the hassle of parking, I'd go up to Hermosa/Manhattan for a better experience. There are a lot of people hanging out on weekends, so it's more interesting. -

Darn now that Torrance Beach has been Yelped the best beach in the So Bay is out of the bag; most folks didn't know that Torrance even had a beach
Torrance beach is a quiet little beach tucked between Redondo and PV beaches. Even on the weekends there are mostly locals - this beach is too far off the beaten path.
Well, now that you know come on down and take a load off, I'll see you there this weekend or maybe you'll see me walking on the strand after work!Listed in: Nothing to Do wit FOOD

Redondo Beach, CA
You threw me 360 degrees inside the water and made me hit my face on the ground, but I still love you. And your lifeguards are cool as hell, even with a dumb water enthusiast with a nosebleed.
Beware of shallow waters and riptides. Other than that, it's a surfer's paradise.
I love Dolphins!!Listed in: Gems in the Deep Deep…

Well I like being on the beach in general, so any beach is an easy sell for me! But I have been to quite a few in my day, and Torrance was up there on my list!
It's quiet and peaceful - not overcrowded and unpleasant like some. We went there on a Friday afternoon and I think there were only maybe 20 people other than us out there! Just a few surfers, and a few people laying out in the sun.
Love that this place gets some great waves! Also it was pretty clean, minus a little bit of stuff that was washed up further on the beach. But it could have been a lot worse. Sand was clean & soft, and the views here are just terrific. Absolutely worth coming down here for! -

I love it here. Even in the middle of summer it's the least crowded beach so it is pretty relaxing.
There is free parking or a parking lot that charges about $2. The meter for the parking lot accepts credit cards.
I've seen many dolphins and sea lions swim around here.
This is my favorite beach ever. My heart belongs to it. -

Torrance, CA
Torrance Beach has the most scenary compared to Redondo Beach. I like the parking lot cause it beats trying to find parking on the street in Redondo Beach.
I would rate it 5 stars, but they jacked up the parking rate this summer from $2 to 3. -

Scenic, clean, and relaxing... What more could you ask for?
Some friends and I decided to make a trip up here because we were in desperate need for a beach outing, and Torrence Beach seemed like the least crowded beach that I could find that was nearby Manhattan Beach. I was also encouraged by all the wonderful reviews it got from fellow Yelpers.
Now, I have to admit. Free parking is a delicious treat considering I frequent Bolsa Chica/Sunset Beach and the parking fee there is ridiculous. However, one thing I was a bit thrown off about was that it wasn't.... quite as empty as Yelpers made it to be. I suppose it was because we decided to come down in the middle of a sweltering Saturday, but there were a lot of visitors; at least, a lot more than I expected. Given, it wasn't as terribly crowded as Manhattan Beach was (we were there for about 20 minutes getting run over by, like, a million beach-goers), but I was expecting it to be "least crowded" and "unpopulated."
However, I am hoping that it was just bad luck and horrible timing on my part. And besides, I still had an amazing time relaxing with friends and swimming under the waves! I'm sure my next trip here will be just as wonderful. -

This is the South Bay's best kept beach. It's secluded enough to keep away the huge crowds some of the other beaches get, and seems a lot cleaner also. The park above the beach has great a little view of the Palos Verdes cliffs and the rest of the bay. Great locals spot and the best part is most people don't realize Torrance has a beach all of it's own.

Redondo Beach, CA
You get a different vibe depending on which part of Torrance Beach you go to. There's a part with all the families go. A part where all the COT teenagers go. There are a couple of parts where its good for surfing and parts where it is not. But one thing that separates it from the rest of the South Bay beaches is that it's the most beautiful because of the lack of development on the beach itself, so no noisy bars and restaurants. And the landscape, Palos Verdes, as a backdrop is breathtaking.

I almost drowned here when I was in high school, but that still doesn't stop me from giving this beach 4 stars. Where else are you going to find lots of free parking around the residential streets, a bike path, lots of open sand, volleyball courts, and great views? When I was training for the LA marathon, I used to run from Torrance beach to El Segundo and back. There are lots of bathrooms, great scenery, and drinking fountains along the way. The sand isn't as soft as Hermosa's sand, but it's not as crowded on the weekends.

Torrance, CA
I love Torrance Beach, tucked into the southern corner of the South Bay, it is less touristy than the beaches farther north. It is generally clean and there are a lot of families there.
